Cab Ride Glacier Express Andermatt - Disentis-Mustér (Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn, Switzerland) 4K

- In this video, you can enjoy the cab ride - a train driver's view from Andermatt to Disentis-Mustér in Switzerland on the famous Glacier Express in the resolution of 4K/60 frames per second.
Glacier Express (GEX), known as the “slowest express train in the world” is a direct eight-hour end-to-end connection between major Swiss mountain resorts of Zermatt and St. Moritz. Operated by a joint-venture between Matterhorn-Gotthard Bahn (MGB) and Rhaetian Bahn (RhB) on the narrow (meter-gauge) railway network in the Swiss central Alps it provides (together with Bernina Express) scenic and exclusive experience.
Third part of our trip takes the Glacier Express train over the Operalp pass, a second part of the historic Furka-Oberalp railway connecting Brig (at the north portal of Simplon Tunnel) via Andermatt (connected by the north portal of Gotthard tunnel via Schöllenenbahn) with Disentis/Muster. From Andermatt we climb quickly on a zig-zagging rack railway section, rising 400 meters over just over 5 kilometers of distance. After reaching the Nätschen we gradually climb for 5 more kilometers to reach the highest point of the line at Oberalppass, at just over 2000 meters above sea level. After Oberalp, we descend through a series of tunnels and galleries into the valley of Vorderrhein (Rhein Anteriur) river, one of the two main sources of the river Rhine. Halfway on our descent, we pass Sedrun, a location of one access/evacuation shaft for Gotthard Base Tunnel (and a location of potential Porta Alpina station), reaching Disentis/Muster at just 1130 meters above sea level. At Disentis/Muster station we reach the network of RhB (Rhätische Bahn) to continue the next parts of our Glacier Express journey to Chur and St. Moritz. This is the slowest part of our journey, taking over an hour to cover just a 30-kilometer distance between Andermatt and Disentis/Muster, primarily due to the large number of rack rail sections on the 600-meter climb and 900-meter descent from the Oberalp pass.
Originally, a French company Brig-Furka-Disentis (BFD) railway built the first segment to just beyond Oberwald of the line before WW1 in 1914 paused and slowed further progress, until in 1925 Furka Oberalp Bahn (FO) was formed to take over and complete the whole line by 1926 on it’s whole route from Brig to Andermatt (Furka section) and Andermatt to Diensis (Operalp section). With the connection to (Brig-)Visp-Zermatt (BVZ) railway in 1930 the first Glacier Express train took off on June 25th, 1930, operating since. In 2003. Furka-Oberalp (FO) railway merged with Brig-Visp-Zermatt (BVZ) railway to form Matterhorn-Gotthard Bahn (MGB) as we know it today.
Technically, Furka-Oberalp (FO) railway is just over 100km long from Brig to Disentis/Muster, with Andermatt being 2/3 of the way, operating as narrow-gauge (1000mm) single-track with passing loops and combination of adhesion (max 40‰) and rack sections with Abt system with max incline of 120‰. Like other lines in the MGB and RhB network, it uses unusual 11kV 16,7Hz electrification.

@ChrVoigt Thank you for sharing your opinion with us. I am glad that the video brought back good memories .
The best rail route in Europe. I was waiting for cabview from this line for a such a long time. Thanks!
@bartoszbanasik2252 Great. It is a very beautiful route. And covered in snow...it becomes magical.
Hello, Rail Relaxation, thank you for another nice video! Thanks to you and your videos I already know a big part of Switzerland and the whole track St. Moritz - Zermatt. Greetings from the Czech Republic 🙂
@DominikJanura-jr3bz Glad to hear that! I am happy that I can share the railway journeys that I do with you.
Howy from Temple, Texas, USA! Thank you for the ride!
Hello there! Welcome! Greetings from Slovenia to Texas.
I'd love to see this cabview during a snowstorm!
@larryppe wow, me too.....
Wunderschön, alle drei Teile.Danke!"!"
@wolfgangfuchs1243 You are welcome.
Thanks for another great video. Its cool watching this from Australia where we are experiencing 40 degrees C. I look forward to your next video😎😎
@johnhall3803 You are welcome. I can imagine that this videos are quite refreshing for you....I don't know about Switzerland, but here in Slovenia we have lots of snow and -12 degrees C in the mornings...
@noahgomera-roezal You are very welcome. It is a breathtaking landscape, amazing to travel along those railways.
Thank you from Skopje Macedonia, I love your videos always put them on my tv to relax.
@Mako2401 Glad you like them!
Beautiful railway route! Under the snow! Passing the entire Matterhorn line must have been spectacular! The route passes from the Rhone valley to the Rhine valley practically! This video was the culmination of many videos I have seen along the line from Zermatt to Chur to St. Moritz. You've basically covered almost the entire Engadine or Canton of Graubünden! I already knew the routes of the Rhaetian Railway! good boy! keep it up!
@wladislaw79 Thank you very much! The line is just spectacular.
Absolutely great video! Very beautiful recorded.
Thank you!
@theaw.4798 Glad you enjoyed it!
MERAVIGLIOSAMENTE BELLO !!! BRAVISSIMI !!!
@paolopetronio8260 Grazie!
Absolutely beautiful route in all three parts. Thank you for sharing and hope the RhB portion is coming.
@rninrvr Thank you. It is, there is one little part missing, but I can assure you that it is very nice.
It's the best winter view in the World.
@user-qm4hg3qn9k It really is beautiful.
Thank you from Pennsylvania U.S.A. This is my 2nd cab ride with you.....the countryside is beautiful, and your videos are very well done and informative!
@edwardhugus2772 Thank you very much!
Very nice and interesting cab ride. Splendid landscapes well or less snowed. Sky with clouds but also with a little sun. I've particurlarly appreciated the 3 peaks seen between 54.16 and 54.26. Note the mention at the enter of Oberalppass Tunnel, FurkaOberalp (FO) 2001. Thank you for this video and for all infos given.
Yes, FO and BVZ merged in 2003 to become MGB, so You can still see traces of old companies, also older rolling stock can still be distinguished if it was former FO or BVZ.
@@ZvonimirZelenika thank you for this comment. Good sunday
Outstanding video, thanks for sharing!
@tomseaman1108 Glad you enjoyed it!

Greetings from Canada. Beautiful railway and country. I never knew that many people lived high in the mountains. Must have been a major job in building the railway. I will have to check for a summer ride video.
@railpast It is very nice countryside around. I would say that all railways around there in the mountains are engineering masterpieces, very hard to build.
gente e lindo d +++❤
@dionircruz6230 Está viagem é muito linda. Exostem mutas viagens de trem maravilhosas ao redor do mundo.
That was great. For your nerves, try at 2x speed, those bends are scary!
@mt.space.in.ear. Thanks for the tip!
@@RailRelaxation 😊👍
Nowadays it seems almost impossible to build a line like this. There would be never ending complaints about economic viability because its not gonna recoup its costs within 2 years. Its really too bad, because there are quite a few places that would need something like this
@lordeisschrank I agree that there are places that would need railway lines like this one...
A line between Argentina and Chile over the Andes…❤🏔🌄
That can change, and I think it will…😊

Unbelievable great ... but be honest ...a bit scary at some points 😲

@arturocasado7889 You are welcome.
What I find interesting is that both MGB runs both locomotive-hauled and electric multiple unit (EMU) trains on this route. Are the trains limited to 35 km/h while running on Abt system rack rail?
Limit for cog running is 40 km/h as far as I’m aware
RhB does even stranger things - they couple Allegra EMU with few more passenger cars and cab car to increase capacity. Even sometimes same train gets few cargo waggons attached.
@@ZvonimirZelenika I saw that on several videos from a couple of TH-cam members based in Switzerland. Especially between Chur and San Moritz.
These times are over mostly. On the MGB-Lines the regional passenger Service is hauled only with EMUs since december 2023. Only the Glacier-Express trains are still loco hauled. Except for the Arosa, Bernina and Albula-Line at the RhB it is the same. Regional passenger Trains only with EMUs, Freight-traffic loco hauled. On the Arosa and Bernina lines the Mix of Allegra, passenger Coaches and freight cars still exist. And on the Albula line there are also loco hauled passenger trains
Good ❤ اللهم صل على محمد وال محمد ❤
Thanks.
So nice videos
Thanks.
@@RailRelaxation very good
sounds like RR engines of fokker 100 :))))))))))))))
Bravo for completing the FO train ! Is the sound a mix of two microphones ?
The rack rail sound and horn echo sound are very beautiful.😍
thank you so much !👍
@xeneelik5037 Good observation. Yes, I did use two microphones.
😊👍
@user-pn7br5jn7b 👍
Is the rack rail used for better traction??
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
@Tamar-Edisherashvili. Thank you.
are seeing less snow than Switzerland would like?
@josephinebennington7247 I did imagined that I will see more snow around.
There's the engine change in Disentis? Trip's video(s) continue(s) to Sankt Moritz?
@d1234as Yes, there is the engine change in Disentis. We will see the continuation, but not the entire journey. There is a small part that I did not film on this trip.
Bellissimo video. Ci sarà la 4 parte?
@pierogiuliano8167 Yes, with a small gap in between.
@@RailRelaxation thanks
👍🚄
@TomRut.404 Thanks.
In today's New York Times crossword there is a clue "Moose's mating season." The answer is RUT.

très belle vidéo ! avez-vous les vidéos du même trajets dans le sens contraire en direction de Zermats car c'est une région magnifique 😢😮😅
@jeannoelrenaudin2 Yes, I did film the journey in the opposite direction too. They will be published soon.
