This is my go-to knot when the leader is less than 20 lbs. For 20 lbs or more I like the FG, but if I am on the water and need to retie I go with the Alberto. If you want to make it stronger, I suggest, at the final phase, wrapping the tag end around the mono (or fluoro) loop two times before tightening. It locks in a little bit more.
Always great info…and super cool how you emphasize to find these colors in the brands people like
I like the red Phillips knot
This is my go to knot.
I will make 2 extra wraps through the loop at the end to avoid any slipping excellent knot.
HTG Captain! This knot is definitely the all-you-need-to-know knot for this and the only one I use. I used to use the FG, but then when I started fishing for Snapper around Grouper I would get broken off often. When I needed to retie more often this became the best knot around and is very strong and small enough to cast lures all day. And unlike the FG, this is a set-it-and-forget-it knot that needs no babysitting.
If you were getting broke off on FG you were possibly tying it wrong?
@@TridentDriver it wasn't the FG Knot that fails. To entice a bite from a wary Mangrove Snapper you are using really light gear, like 10# braid and 15#/20# Flouro leader. They occupy the same environment as Grouper so it is inevitable that you will occasionally hook up with something that'll break you off. Usually it's the braid that breaks, not the FG.
But if you have to retie often, as you do in that case, the Alberto is better. Then I found that the Alberto works well for inshore casting, so I just never benefitted from the FG after learning the Alberto
Happy Turkey Day Capt CA!
I use that knot all the time. It's great for braid to mono too. The FG looks a lot more complicated and so I never learned it. The Alberto is how I tied mono line to mono leader for a long time so it was easy to learn for braid.
Appreciate the Thanksgiving wishes my friend
Nice job of showing this.
As much as I love the FG, I’m definitely going to try this out! Thanks Captain for the great tips! 👍😀👍
Appreciate that!
I use this almost exclusively and have caught a ton of fish on it. However, if you're using a longer leader that will travel through the guides, retie it at least 2-3 times during a full day of fishing. When I'm fishing a shakey head or finesse bait for bass on spinning gear, I use a 6-8 foot leader and it will slip loose after hours of casting. That's a good rule for all line to leader knots though. Don't get lazy or you'll regret it!
Great stuff as always, Capt!
Thanks for the intel. Pretty close to the Royal Polaris knot.
Thanks. Excellent presentation. Will practice this weekend
Awesome 👏🏼 Larry
They talk a lot about how easy some of these knots go through the guides but really how often do you have a leader that long where that might be a issue. Great job on showing how to tie that one. I could see it pretty easy. Thanks C.A
When your casting the braid rubs in your finger and can wear out
Happy thanksgiving CA
Hope to see ya around ozello this Sunday
I've been trying the real Philip knot the red
Thats a good knot and I actually did a TH-cam vid on that one as well
I love it but Randy Blaukat says we should never do this LOL!!
What makes this better than an FG? Or a double uni?
FG is stronger but this takes less time to tie on the water when the bite it hot. It's smaller so it goes through the guides better than the uni-uni.....probably even a little stronger.
It’s just another version of a slim knot that’s all
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family….looks much quicker than a FG knot
Happy Thanksgiving
Can't master the fg knot I can do this one I shark fish and get monsters will this knot be strong enough 100lb to 100lb
