Thought that after over 20 years of bass fishing, I would be exposed to almost all tips on tying knots. But using that Loon UV is great info that can be very useful. Thx Steve.
Thank you for this knot video. I have been using the Albert knot for years but never as you have just shown us. But I am going to use this method going forward. I love learning new tips that make fishing more fun and interesting. Thanks again.
The absolutely best Alberto knot on TH-cam. Ya’ll, IMHO, don’t have look any further. The only thing I’d change, since I have arthritis, is I use a large finger trimmer instead of a razor blade. Thank You Thank You Thank You.
Thats an excellent tutorial. The Alberto Knot has been my favorite braid to Fluorocarbon knot for years. I like the Loon UV cement. I am going to try it. Also the two 3/4 “ PVC pipes with Electric tape is an excellent idea. My wife is mad because i stole her cutting board in the kitchen.
Great knot. Precision knot tying. Excellent explanation of knot mechanics. Albeit a bit impractical method for tying a leader flying across No Tellum Lake. In all seriousness folks, sit at home and practice your knots. If you can’t tie them at your desk, you’ll probably not be able to tie it on a moving boat. You’ll probably end up with three or four knots that will suit your needs. If one of your needs is being able to steer a boat while tying, just take that under consideration. Tight Lines!
This is my go-to knot for all things connecting different lines. I have not heard of the product that you use in here. But I appreciate your instruction on tying this knot. I am pretty particular and detailed about my knots. But there was some good stuff in here. Thanks for sharing.
Clear, detailed, and still interesting. Best instructional video I’ve seen. Growing up fly fishing I’ve applied Loon Knot Sense in the same way ever since I started bass fishing. Works great on the FG (thinner diameter knot) I tie at home and on your Crazy Alberto which is easier for me to tie in the field. Two things I hope might be helpful to some: If you have sticker shock on the Loon products , fear not. It’ll easily last you over a year. You don’t use much and it doesn’t dry out. Two, if you leave the hi viz braid tag 3/4” long it fuzzes up nicely when fishing That makes it a great indicator for your line watching, weightless techniques. It still flies right through the guides and works well with your white knot indicator trick. Great video!
I like the indicator idea for bass fishing applications. PS I have a leaky tube of the knot sense. The goop is pooled in a cup. Have used it for over a year. Just keep it from uv and it never hardens. Thanks for watching Ken.
Great video. I am a huge fan of the Loon UV Knot Sense product. It’s the best way to finish hand tied FG/RP/Alberto knots IMO. I also like apply bowstring wax to all my wind-ons after using thin super glue on the bobbin serves. Works great over regular super glue as well if you don’t have Loon glue.
I especially like the tip to use handles to pull the knot tight. I had a piece of 1/2 PVC in the garage that works great when taped up. My left little finger really appreciates the idea since it no longer gets "bit" by the mono/fluro.
This is an example of an excellent knot, with excellent instruction, resulting in a beautiful and strong knot (I use this knot all the time)... but I will not put that kinda of time on a boat making it that nice... One helluva video though....
I keep two pieces of delron rods, 1/2in dia by 3in long, wrapped in electrical tape, in my boat just for snugging down knots. They fit will in the hands but don't take up room. The use of UV glue is brilliant! I've used super glue from time to time, but typically just trust my knots without. I bet this leader knot will last much longer with the glue. Thanks for making this!
Very good video! I tie my Alberto the same way but had not heard of the Loon UV but you can clearly see this helps the knot especially through the guides. I use this know for slow pitch jigging splicing the braid to the flouro leader. Typically 30 lb braid to a 40 lb flouro leader. Thanks for the education!
Two Cats one bass today. I have trouble trusting that knot. I will get the U.V. stuff and use it. I tried like heck to do the F.G. knot. Once I think I have it I test it….and it’s a free lure for a big fish. F.G. stands For F… it’s Gone ! I also tested the Alberto it breaks easy at the knot. I will try it the same way you did Coop. I like to have the clear line by my lure with a touch of stretch. Thank for the help Coop! The only time I have fished with that knot was the time you tied it on my rod. I felt like a little kid in Thea back of your boat Solid knot I caught fish on it Uncle Steve.
Hey Steve, nice helpful vid. I use the Alberto knot exclusively and more so than the FG...easier to tie and just as slim through the line guides. Have never had an Alberto knot fail, but I recall doing a check on an FG knot and it slipped. Yeah, many will say it's user error and maybe so, but I've NEVER had a user error issue with Alberto knot. I've heard Al Fong mention use of the Alberto in many of his vids. Alberto and Albright....great knots!!
Thanks for watching Nate, I have problems with the FG when it comes to light leaders. Check out Salt Strong, they explain why the FG may not be the best way to go for litr line applications.
I appreciate the information on tying this knot. I am very interested in the LOON UV knot sealer. While I try to tie my knots at home when I starting out, invariably I am out on the lake with 15-25 mile and hour winds in my kayak. Not a lot of room for other gear and my line is blowing all over the place. LOL. ;-)
Thanks for watching and I am with you 100%. I try and tie all my line to leader knots at home. I am fishing out of a boat so when I need to change rods due to knot or line problems, I just change rods. Hard to do in a kayak. If I am in a pinch and have to retie, I will retie a Alberto, with no Loon, It's a good knot, better with the Loon but still a good knot. If you have trouble tying the Alberto on the boat, tie a double uni knot no loon. When you get home reset everything in the comfort of your own living room. Were all fishing for fun, every now and then we have a knot break, won't really mater in 5 years. Have fun.
Took a few great tips away from this video that will help improve my Alberto -- 1.) cutting the edges cleanly w/ a razor to create a ramp/transition to help the knot flow through guides easier and 2.) the use of the uv knot sense to encapsulate and finish off the knot. Thank you!
Jeesh, Steve, I thought I made a pretty good alberto knot! I guess knot. I'll be getting that knot sense and giving this a try. I've used superglue for encasing, but it doesn't work well.
Put the UV on top of your super glue .. I use the glue on last cinch, then UV drop on top for smoothness.. works like a charm and never a failure.. jerkbaits or big swimbaits.. no stretch for hooksets and some cushion from leader
Hi Bill. One advantade with the loon stuff is that it is softer than glue so if you have a long leader and it's on your reel, the knot does not tear up your thumb.
I have never tried that. This is called a fine grip knoe. It may damage the outer core of the fly line. so i would try it first and then test the break strength.
I have not, I wish I could just to check it. I will say that before I started using the loon UV knot I would have problems, from time to time with the knot. No longer have any problems, could be that I am better at tying the knot. Thanks for watching.
I think the crazy alberto knot is more forgiving with the thicker mono topshots (150-200) and braid (150-300)we use here. Uni knot is strong too. These have held up to 13+ hammers at 60lbs of drag. One line of my buddy had multiple unis. That's strong enough proof to me and use them all of the time.
@@iamatt You are right. The heaver the mono the better. The alberto knot is what is known as a fine grip knot. The braid must grip into the mono, so light leader to braid will loose some straight.
just wipe it off. If the sun hits it when it's on your fingers good luck. I do 95% of my knots at home in doors and use uv. The knot will work great if tied with out the knot sense.

UV knot sense seems like a great solution to my headaches and I should gain at least 20m extra on the cast. I just hope after application that the knot/line still remains as supple as people say
