Don't think ANYTHING about jurors should be known. Name, work, hobby....
None should be revealed to the accused/defendant. Not sure he should be able to see them/be in the same room during selection.
There are great reasons why we need to know these things. If you are ever accused of a horrific crime, jury selection will become one of the most important steps of arguing your innocence.
Why did they say this gals full name, the neighborhood she lives and her mother's name! That was not necessary!

With current events and the news coverage and stuff. More so than most people. And if you keep up with that stuff it’s very difficult to be impartial on this particular defendant. I believe she believes she could be impartial. But I just don’t think they are going to find 12 impartial jurors. My guess is the trial ends in a hung jury 8-4 in favor of guilty. And they will decide to not try him again

Regardless of what you tell a lawyer to get selected for a jury. No one can be completely impartial.

@@JeffreySchuelerEXACTLY.
no wonder the Trump team didn't want her on the jury, which is why they went to the extent of trying to intimidate her.
Which is Trump's M.O.
It's all about civic duty. As much as I despise Trump, if I was on the jury, and the prosecution didn't make the case, I would have to vote to acquit. And I would hope a Trump supporter, who heard evidence to support conviction, would vote in favor of that conviction. That's how it should be, or we don't have a fair system of justice.

SO you deny the MASSIVE truckloads of evidence against him? To you,it is a witch hunt? Whoo boy
I'd say that's fair.
Exactly! That's be a fair and impartial juror.
@@dddevildoggNo, he isn’t. The prosecution has to prove *beyond reasonable doubt* that Trump is guilty. There is plenty of evidence to present, and remember all suspects are innocent until proven guilty. All the defense attorneys have to do is cast any reasonable doubt, and that could literally change everything.
The reason the judge had for excusing her was interesting. I was called for jury service when I was a self employed independent contractor. If I didn’t work, I didn’t get paid. The judge didn’t care.
What's supposed to be Jarring here? She said right up front that she wouldn't be able to take the time off. So they dismissed her as she wouldn't be able to attend the trial

Thank you, Ms. Kara. ⚖️🇺🇸 🗽
That's good thinking but you can't think about all that when you are a juror and it's time to vote guilty or not guilty. You feelings and thoughts about what your vote is going to do doesn't come into play. You are to take all (if any), of the evidence and decide if the person is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Period.
Get REAL
First, I am an appreciative MSNBC viewer but for José Díaz-Balart to say the following "this is the only system like this in the world" shows the height of his conceit, or general lack of knowledge. In case he isn't aware, the US judicial system is modelled after the British common law system which is widely used by commonwealth countries like Australia, Canada, and New Zealand and many others, all of which use the same jury system.
Only apply that law system to British subjects, and not to the indigenous peoples.
@@oscarjohnson9156 Initially, I agree but I will give that issue more thought as I learn more about it.
What was the point of that interview?
Not the only system in the world, the same process exists in Canada, and a lot of the Commonwealth of Nations.
54 countries have trial by jury. Might want to edit out that question?
And many of them have had it much longer than the US.
It's MSNBC, Facts are the last thing they worry about.
Other countries have trial by jury but voir dire is deliberation over witnesses and evidence, whereas in the USA it includes deliberation over the jury. Most other countries do not have this - unless you have a good excuse people called for jury duty are seated without this examination.
A quick google, Wikipedia says:
England and Wales, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Canada, it refers to a "trial within a trial". It is a hearing to determine the admissibility of evidence, or the competency of a witness or juror.
I thought other countries have trial by jury. Thanks for the information.
Do they really think other countries don't have juries? The US literally inherited the jury system from England 😅 In some countries defendants don't tend to choose them because their judges aren't elected, so they actually tend to be less harsh than juries.
Other countries have trial by jury but voir dire is deliberation over witnesses and evidence, whereas in the USA it includes deliberation over the jury. Most other countries do not have this - unless you have a good excuse people called for jury duty are seated without this examination.
The American system of allowing politicians to put the judiciary in place is ridiculous, and inherently corrupt. It's something that happens in totalitarian countries.
The same can be said for electing judges, it can affect impartiality.

I served as a juror in a murder trial here in Europe, and I experienced a similar sense of responsibility, duty, and awareness that our decision would profoundly impact someone's life. A juror decides based on facts presented to him, it's not easy to put aside ones emotions.
