Banana Fish: Episode 16 Reaction! "Lo, The Poor Peacock!"

- Ash is determined, hell or highwater, to escape Dr. Mannerheim's facility -- and it's not easy for him! This episode was such a different "Break Out" than the mansion, and there's a lot more going on under the surface as well than just our main character trying to get out...
I'm not sure, but the tonal shift in this show has me worried. Anyone else sensing that?!

fun fact: in the manga, when the guard was thrown in the garbage chute, ash asked if that's how the hospital fire their people out of their job. i just remember because I found it really hilarious

this escape sequence was so packed with comedy, I think we haven't seen this show be so explicitly ironic scene after scene. From the faces and effects to how ridiculous the whole thing was with Ash having to go back inside right after escaping because Max/Ibe were trying to save him lol.
And Dino having the time of his life watching chaos unfold on purpose so Ash can escape and recover just to kill him. Dino really thinks he can kill a strong Ash after not being able to stop him from escaping his own mansion after having him tied up and tortured while Ash was emotionally in one of his lowest points, now that's comedy.
This escape was tense like the mansion escape scene, but also a very DIFFERENT escape than before! And aaaaah, yes, Ash going through ALL that...just to go back again. XD Of course! Because -- Banana Fish! ^^ And Dino was chewing the scenery and just hamming it up with all the chaos and letting his lynx escape! It was insanity this episode, and I'm soooo nervous for the rest to come! Thank you for the comment!
I love the fact that this show never lets us forget how disgusting Dino is. Regardless of his weird pride in Ash, he is intent on being the one to "tame" him (there's that animal comparison again).
And I have to point out the visual gag @15:36: Ash has a Banana peel on his head, and a narutomaki (Japanese FISH cake with a pink swirl) on his collarbone 😁

This episode was somewhat more comical, not that I'm complaining. When I first watched it I needed a small break from the right out angst of this show. Ash is Golzine's Achilles heel yet also one of the ways he gets strength from. There's a parallel between Ash and Golzine and Eiji and Ash. Eiji is Ash's Achilles heel and also one of the people he gets strength from. It's basically a pure version of the warped relationship between Golzine and Ash.

Any comedic effort is needed in this show with how much tension it has! Yes, Ash is Golzine's biggest weakness but also where he gets strength, a la him having the upper hand against Baron in this episode. It's insane the parallels and comparisons and contrasting elements in this show, and that's a good one to bring up with Golzine/Ash/and Eiji's relationship. Nice to point that out! This episode is so funny when Ash's situation is serious lol, I actually like the contrast tho😊,but what made me afraid while watching this is they're giving us happiness and that means something more serious will come😅(it is banana fish afterall)😂

Ash's escape was comical, but in the worst way -- like anything that COULD go wrong shy of being mortally threatening would -- that elevator scene was soooo tense! But I feel you're so right! Max and Ibe and Ash rejoicing in getting out...uhm...that seems too convenient, like we're being set up for bad things to come. @__@ **nervous laughter**

Yeah, Golzine really hammed it up in this arc -- he knows how Ash is and him taking delight in the others underestimating him was actually really funny.

As much as I hate Dino,he was badass in this episode. XD but yeah,it's a big weakness of him,that he wants to be the one that kills Ash. I mean it's good for us because that helped a lot already that Ash didn't got killed.
I really liked that this episode had a lot of intense scenes but also a lot comedy in it. It was refreshing.
It feels like Max gets better and better every episode even when we don't see much of him.
Dino was chewing the scenery in this episode and making a mockery of the others that were trying to keep Ash imprisoned! And yesss, definitely a weakness! I do appreciate that they kept a mix of action and comedy, to keep the episode going strong, but yes! I do like Max's character and that at the end of this, he's still a father figure towards Ash. If the Episode 16 had another title, it was "A big escape from Ash's mental health center!!".🤗
I used the whole story from the beginning to the ending to draw the escape play.
In addition to the tense scenes, there were also a lot of funny comedy scenes, and although it was supposed to be a tense situation, it was an episode that made us laugh and calm our hearts in some places.
Even in this escape play, Ash's talent and ability were demonstrated everywhere.
The high potential of Ash is immeasurable!
Ash have already planned to take Dr. Dawson as a living witness of Banana Fish, and I am amazed at the depth of Ash's thought circuit as to how much he guesses and acts😲
And, when you think about it normally, you run around while carrying an adult man who is an old man with impaired consciousness, or pull up Dr. Dawson who was shaken off the ceiling of the elevator with one arm..., This is something that a normal 18-year-old boy can never do.
What's more, I was surprised because I pulled it up while supporting my body!!
Moreover, Ash has not completely healed the wounds he suffered during the duel with Arthur.
How strong his physical and mental strength is...I'm surprised and a little scared😅
Max and Mr. Ibe, who suddenly found a chance with the "alarm" that rang in the hall, also started the rescue operation of Ash.
Ash's escape created a tumultuous, tense and upset atmosphere within the Mental Health Center.
Dr. Manner heim of the Mental Health Center, who doesn't understand Ash's abilities, finally asks Dino for advice💦
However, Dino gradually hunts down the current person in charge, saying that he can not give advice because he was removed from the person in charge here! (=This was threatening behavior of a kind)
In short, Dino wants to say, "If you need help, bring me back in charge!!".
They don't want to rely on Dino and they try to catch Ash on their own, but as Dino expected, Ash is never caught.
Dino enjoys watching them. It's as if he's watching the "chase race" of "Disney Anime:Tom and Jerry"🐱🐭
Max and Ibe, who are looking for Ash, will pass each other repeatedly with ash running around in the mental health center...😅
➡ The scene where these three people passed each other made me laugh as one of the comedy scenes, even though it was tense😁
Not to mention Ash and others, Max and Ibe are also chased by the guards and fall into a predicament👮♂️
Max, who managed to escape the pursuit from the guards, made a fatal mistake here😨
It threw one of the fainted guards into the garbage disposal duct that Ash is now using as an escape route!!
Ash's fell into a large amount of kitchen waste from the hanging stairs.
And, of course, not knowing that it was Max who made the cause, he shouted his anger😡
Ash finally escaped to the outside of the building.
He tries to steal the car with Dr. Dawson and escape, but unfortunately, he witnesses Max and Ibe, who should have come to rescue Ash, being caught by the guards and taken somewhere.
Ash, who is very exhausted by the actions so far, tries to abandon Max and Ibe once...But after all Ash is kind.
Unable to be ruthless.
Ash returned to the building to save them.
Hmmm, although it's an unavoidable result, this was too pitiful for Ash😥
I can understand how Ash wants to yell at Max.
In the end, Ash, who should have been rescued, helped Max and Ibe💦
Ash always ignores himself and bets his life on behalf of his loved ones.
He is a really kind and wonderful person.
Since taking the often reckless behavior, I will be full of worry and anxiety each time😰
I can understand Eiji's feelings for Ash very much.

Their cosplay and acting were very funny and laughed🤣 Why did only Ash dress as a woman in the role of "nurse"!?

I felt a pain in my chest when I saw that peace did not come to Ash's heart. That's why Ash needs Eiji.
Ash, who understands his psychological state, also really wants Eiji.
To Eiji, the only place where Ash can relax...

I find it hilarious that Ash went through all that work, showed his talent in not only getting himself but also Dawson out, and YET, Ibe and Max didn't realize it and in trying to break Ash out, had to be rescued by Ash! @_@ I do like that Max genuinely cares about Ash, almost like Ash is his son -- it's a unique relationship and I appreciate it, especially at the end of the episode.
Someone else commented on this, but I did find the groping of Ash while he was the nurse to be a bit sad, though it was played for comedic effect. Ash has been through a lot of sexual harassment and abuse, and I'm amazed he tolerated that Dr. being so lewd...sadly, I guess he's used to it. And ahhhh, yes, Ash needing to see Eiji was so sweet! I can't wait for them to hopefully be reunited!
Also, I'm sure you've watched this movie, too, but the whole elevator scene where Dawson nearly fell kept me thinking about "A Silent Voice" and when she's hanging off the balcony?! I was soooo tense and anxious watching it! This episode definitely ran the gambit from being comedic to being incredibly suspenseful! I'm so ready for Episode 17! Cheers!

Yes! This Episode 16 was full of serious scenes and comedy scenes.
My feelings went here and there and I was busy😅
As you say, Ash's "Temptation Show" that appeared in Episode 15, this time Ash's nurse cosplay scene, sexual harassment scene in the elevator...etc.
There's a comedy element, but when you recall Ash's past, the more he shows him accustomed to these scenes and responses, the more sad we are😢
Even if they are the "techniques" that Ash has learned desperately to survive, those things hurt my heart every time I see them.
No one can change the past...but there is Eiji next to Ash💞
I hope that Eiji's existence will one day heal Ash's wounds.
