After the anxiety-inducing last episode, I was terrified going into this penultimate episode.
Not only did this episode go in directions I did NOT see coming (THAT ENDING SHOT -- pun intended), but the heart-wrenching moments between our protagonists, the TEARS, the drama, the action...
...and there's still SO MUCH unresolved for the final episode. I'm not sure how I'll handle it.
Thank you for all the support!

Blanca. Sir. You do NOT project your grief and trauma onto an abused teenager! Ash has never once treated Eiji as his "salvation". If anything, he tried to push him AWAY. Blanca can't comprehend that Ash and Eiji's relationship is based on mutual trust and love. And of course he'd assume that, because he doesn't KNOW about their relationship.
I'm glad he's helping Ash now, but his words are too influential, especially for someone as self-loathing as Ash. For him to say "why didn't you protect him" when 1) HE shot at Eiji and 2) Ash literally burned down an entire mansion to save Eiji, is just ridiculous. Bad Blanca 🤬

Here it is!! My fav scene in this whole show is the conversation between Blanca and Yut-lung. I always love the scenes where Blanca just talks with others, especially with Yut-lung. You can really feel how lonely and broken he is in this episode. He's just a boy who never felt what love is.
Of course Yut-lung has the right to hate but he got his revenge. The "demons who ate his mom" are gone now. And how Blanca said,he needs to love if he wants to be loved.
Yut-lung denying that there is someone out there who will care for him and love him is really sad. He already gave up a long time ago that he would be saved. I like that Blanca knows, because he was at Yut-lungs side the last few weeks, that he isn't a bad human, just a broken person like he is himself.
I could talk hours about this scene. XD
I love that the opening has a lot of moments that "happens" in the show without it being a spoiler. They did a great job with it.
You see a lot of parallels I never really saw.
The scene in the Hospital was the first one I saw from banana fish and I thought it was a show where the one character have a illnes and maybe dies because of it and that's like a goodbye scene. How wrong I was,I never expected it to be this kind of a show. XD
Sings expressions were really heartbreaking this episode. I like to think that Shorter and Sing lived together and that's why Sing is a lot like him.
And why does it always have to be the kids who gets to be the boss? It's already hard enough for a kid to be in such a situation but being the boss makes it so much harder.
I really like when they do that with the glasses. It shows how Cain means what he said.
Fox is a character I will never understand. He's so scary.
On the beginning of the show Ash tried to kill Dino a lot of times but it never worked out but this is even more unsatisfying.
It doesn't feel like next episode can be the last episode, because there have to be so many things fixed.
There is a thing I want to mention but I'm not sure if it is considered a spoiler so I will write it in the next episodes comment.
I wish you a wonderful week!!

    • @RomaniaBlack
      @RomaniaBlack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Ahhhh, thank you for the comment! There's SO MUCH with this episode and you touch base on a lot of it!
That conversation with Blanca and Dragon Moon....ahhhh....it's so good and needed. I love that at the end of this complicated web with Yut-Lung, it comes down to him needing to love again and be loved and Blanca is trying to tell him that, so he doesn't end up like him. It's also so sad; Blanca has been in the Caribbean, seemingly enjoying a carefree life, but yet he still describes himself as empty with nothing but hatred and sadness...man. That's sad.
YES! I was told that the second OP/ED were spoiler-y, so I did my best to not really pay attention to it, but looking back, it's SO full of SPOILERS! @_@ And that hospital scene...THAT was the first scene you saw?! OMG!!!! No joke, hahahaha, I could see your scenario being what the show is about...man...that's insane that you started from there and then worked your way back! OMG! XD
And Sing...in the manga, it's established that Shorter and Nadia are Sing's cousins, so maybe that's it? The fact that he was related to them was important to him as well. I still feel really bad for him...a 14 year old being a mob boss? Jeeeeeez....
And Foxx...Foxx is an insane character. There' s more of him in the manga, but not enough to like his character anymore, haha! And "UNSATISFYING" is EXACTLY how I felt about Golzine getting shot...like, we all expect Ash to be the one to take him out...and then it's this rando that came in the final hour?! Nope nope.
There are SO many things to sort out by the end of this series -- It's going to be crazy next episode. Thank you for the kind words and comment and have a great week, too!

    11:18 MY BABY!! 😭
14:06 As far as we know, Ash has never prayed before... and the fact that he was begging God to not take Eiji away from him... 😰
15:15 So far, I had been on and off with Yut Lung because I felt really bad for him because of how his brothers treated him but I also hated that he kept trying to kill Eiji. I still don't like that, but this backstory about how his mother was killed really made me feel for him... The boy just deserves to have love in his life!!
20:15 - 22:14 This is whole scene just BROKE MY HEART!! I had a feeling that them reaching for each other's hands from the intro would come at one point but it didn't make it any easier to see. Usually its Ash's voice actor that I praise, but in this scene, Eiji's voice actor really made you feel all the emotions when he yelled for him to go and told Charlie not to go after him... 😭😭😭
I think this show just takes great pleasure in making me cry

All of these moments...UGH. With Sing? With Ash praying for the first time? With Eiji? That hospital scene I was nearly shaking in my seat I was wanting them to just communicate more than anything!! Ahhh....it's so hard!
And YES! Yut-Lung has been SUCH a complicated character! I've hated some of his decisions, but I pity him? But I like his character? But he makes me mad? Hahaha, he's so complex and so hard to get a read on!

The 'cinderella thing' that happened with Eiji and Ash is just so heartbreaking :(

It's funny, looking at the manga of this episode, they actually do a "Cinderella" reference! I was floored! ^^ This anime is FAR too short...but that is always the case with a great anime, isn't it?

When Ash yelled out his name and went to Eiji trying to hold his hand and he told him to run to protect him but both of them had tears in their eye's and honestly that broke my heart and I wanted to cry lol. I need Ash and Eiji to be with each other again, I refused about them never seeing each other again, they have to. They need each other, but Yut Lung honestly I feel so bad for him both him and Ash need a hug and comfort... I'm not ready for the last week episode...

OH! I was so afraid Ash was going to leave and NOT see or talk to Eiji! Although, it's almost worse, because there are no words -- just them reaching and failing to be with one another in an embrace. **sobs in symbolism** I hate it. HATE IT. I refused that it was the last time they'd see each other....and then for as insane as Yut-Lung has been, I did in this episode feel bad for him...he just needs a hug. I REALLY hope last episode would be good it may not be but at least I hope Ash and Eiji sees each other again because that wasn't nice with how they did us with Ash running to him reaching out and him doing the same but only for him to pull back and tell him to escaped and be safe while in tears and Ash honestly that wasn't nice.

I was waiting for your reaction to the end 😂😂 The shock!
Also the way that you can see how Eiji was holding everything together this episode. Let's not forget that Sing would still hate Ash if Eiji hadn't told him the truth about Shorter, which Ash had no intention of doing. Poor babies, seeing them reaching out towards each other hurts every time. Eiji knowing Ash has to stay away from him to stay safe and free, no matter how much they both want/need to be with each other. So many emotions this EP.

There's so much tensionnn, Sing my baby feeling like dying is what he needs to do to be at peace TT. Ash going to visit Eiji to the hospital physically hurts me, and when they were about to touch eachother like in the OP and then Eiji retrieving his hand because reality was approaching (Ash is a criminal wanted by the police) and telling him to get awayy aaa... thanks Blanca. The pose Ash is in at 14:24 is stuck in my head, I felt like I have seen that before either in a painting or something but I can't remember nor find it so it's really stressful hahaha. That scene with Ash and Eiji broke me so much like why can't banana fish just let them have some peace, they were so close to touching eachother. And it's sad because I heard that Eiji couldn't see in that scene so he didn't know that Ash was very close. 😭

I have so many things to say, but those shall be saved for another time. I will say this: when we got Blanca’s flashback about his wife and we see how similar Natasha and Ash look, I always wondered if Blanca maybe saw him as the son he and his wife never got to have and that’s why he feels such a strong connection with him. Maybe I’m just reading too much into things because it’s one of my favorite things to do as a writer, but food for thought I guess.

    • @RomaniaBlack
      @RomaniaBlack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I was thinking that too in this episode with Ash -- since he looks so much like Natasha, if he sees Ash as somewhat of a son...That's a good point! :) I don't think you're reading too much into it! Banana Fish is like a rollercoaster from Hell. It's amazing and engaging but it's also terrifying and hurts so much. That's this show for you, it never really goes the direction you expect.
Yut-Lung's development through the show is very interesting. In the beginning, he seems so clever and put together but as it goes on he starts acting more and more like a teenager. I felt that in this episode Yut-Lung really acted like a sixteen-year-old. Especially his tantrums. In a way, Eiji had that effect on both Ash and Yut-Lung. His presents bring out the child in both of them, whether they want him to or not.
I feel like Blanca wasn't being fair in his speech about the danger of keeping Eiji around. He gives Eiji no agenda. Ash didn't "keep Eiji around" he couldn't get rid of him. Ash tried and Eiji just kept coming back. He sent Eiji to Japan and he ran off and watched Arthur's and his fight. He gave himself up so Eiji could go back to Japan safely and instead he broke into the party to save Ash. Hell Ash sent him away when Fox attacked and Eiji came back guns blazing. If Eiji got hurt or killed it would be Eiji's fault, not Ash. How many times does Eiji need to not listen to Ash and do his own thing before he has the right to be responsible for his own life? The way Blanca acts you'd think Ash begged and pleaded with Eiji to stay or that Eiji was an object that had no agenda. I like Blanca as a character but I really don't agree with his philosophy. Much like Golzine (though in a VERY different way) he only sees Ash and the effects others have on Ash instead of independent people with their own desires and thoughts.
Anyways thanks for another great reaction! Enjoy rewatching all the episodes!

    • @RomaniaBlack
      @RomaniaBlack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Banana Fish is SUCH the rollercoaster from Hell -- it's had its ups, downs, thrills, loops, and it's been scary, exhilarating, and I've simultaneously loved and been terrified throughout it! It's been unpredictable and I've loved it so much!
Yut-Lung, WHAT a character! I feel we've stripped him of so many layers and we're now getting to his core and how he is just a teenager at the end of it all. Eiji definitely brings out the "child in all of them" (I like that terminology) and it's either restoring their humanity or revealing their weakness. It's so symbolic!
And yeah, Blanca probably meant well, especially knowing how Natasha's life ended, and he was trying to keep Ash from making the same mistakes as him, but he also didn't consider Eiji's agency in this, too. Eiji by Episode 15/16 claimed responsibility for his actions and was fine with the consequences -- of course, Blanca never hears that, only Yut-Lung. Yeah, Blanca, Yut-Lung, and Golzine all view Ash from a similar stance...which is interesting, considering how the series ends up.
Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! This series has been amazing!!

I'm watching Banana Fish for the first time now and just wanna say thanks, your reactions help me get through the pain somehow ;__; While I'm gathering courage to finally watch the last episode (and I'm all but sure there won't be a happy ending), I'm taking a pause to reflect a bit on the story, because i'm afraid my heartbreak will be so severe that I wont be able to think about it for a while ;_; So, this show has blown me away in many ways, but what i especially love is the depth, that kind of depth that gets to the very essence of things, presents us patterns that can be applied to many real life issues on multiple levels, from a personal little life to the grand world things. For one, the gangs may fight one another in permanently boiling street wars but there is the true Enemy against which they are able to unite, because it is THAT different. It possesses no human moral code, its logic is that of a monster, a demon, an absolute evil, from the pov of a normal person. That Enemy is not united, however, there are multiple parts of it, like Golzine, Fox, the Lees, the government, and so on. They may make alliances or fight each other, too, for power, for the zones of influence, like when Fox kills Golzine in this episode, or when earlier Golzine kinda helps Ash to escape and kills the baron, and so on. But it doesn't change who they are, nor their common primary motivation: to exploit, control, oppress those below. They don't see ordinary people as human beings, only as objects. That's why they are the true enemy, so kudos to Sing for voicing that. The deals with them are basically the deals with the same one monstrous force. Now I can't help applying that to the greater scheme of things, where street bands are different nations, divided by their racial differences, historical hatred, spontaneous conflicts of interests, or on the contrary temporarily united by the same things. And then there is this power above them all, those who are above in the food chain: the elites ruling over those different nations. The elites that don't possess the normal "naive" human sentiments, who view people as objects, a countable resource at best. To control, to take what they want from those who stand below them, to build their power upon them, and to use them to satisfy their desires-it is the logic of a predator, or maybe a farmer who's bothered about more efficient control of the herd, either way, another species. They understand each other perfectly fine and conspire "behind our backs" (naive of us to expect any truth from them) or try to outplay each other, but in the end they are all the same Golzines, Foxes, Lees: the monsters whose goals have nothing to do with our hopes for better life. The nations, however, don't realize that, they tend to humanize "their own" elites, forgetting about the difference in mentalities. At the same time, they are taught to hate the other nations, the same basically ordinary people who share the same basic normal human motivations. Especially nowadays, when the controlled media (in my country, but the same is the case for others) dehumanize the people on the other side of the conflict, like it is the ordinary people who are the enemy. The same gullible people who've been taught to hate us. It is all freaking tragic. The truth is, the only war that is going on in this world is the war between people and the elites. I wish we could all realize that, like these boys did. But I doubt we will.

You've already watched the final episode, so i don't have to worry about spoilers anymore.
I and my friends(manga reader) had completely switched to the same perspective as Yut Lung. Because we understood that this story would have a tragic ending and Yut Lung gave up everything. We thought, "If we don’t hope for anything, we will not feel disappointment."
You wrote "It's that desire to see our main character get out of the world he's trapped in that I think spurs us to like Eiji."
    We are in stark contrast!
But now I understand why you all love Eiji and why you all can't accept the ending.

Finally, Episode 23 just before the final episode!!
In the hearts of our fans, expectations and loneliness and various emotions that cannot be expressed are swirling toward the end.
The title of Episode 23 is "For Whom the Bell Tolls".
It was an episode that really embodies this title.
From the opening scene, pain and sorrow continue to spread in our hearts😭
    ・ Bloody Eiji.
・ Ash worries about Eiji and endures the fear of losing him.
・ Severe words from Blanca for Ash.
・ Sing who can't stand the big pressure as a boss and sheds tears.
    ・ Sing and Lao quarrel.
・ Lao throws hatred words at Ash.
・ Sing's painful feelings that kicked Lao out of the team.
・ Sing feels responsible for Eiji and applies for a duel with Ash.
No matter what scene you cut out, it will hurt the viewer's heart and our heart will be saddened.
    Cain encourages Ash.
However, Ash, who continues to blame himself, thinks of Eiji and bursts into tears.
"Please, God, don't take Eiji!. Take me instead..." This word has been put is heartbreaking cries of Ash, brought pain in our heart😢
※I was really happy that Eiji was saved!!!
The sad past of Yut Lung and the darkness of his deep heart were also revealed.
It seemed like I could hear the pain in Yut Lung's heart and the crying of a young boy who couldn't be saved by anyone, and my heart also felt pain.
What he has done is never forgiven.
But, when confronted by such a his conflict and sorrow, I can not hate from the bottom of my heart that the Yut Lung.
Yut Lung is the same as Ash, because he is a victim who has been at the mercy of his destiny too.
Details about Blanca's past and his wife, Natasha, have also been revealed.
Blanca too also one of the victims whose life was distorted by the country.
However, Blanca, who knows the value of loving people and being loved by people because she met Natasha, speaks to Yut Lung, who continues to be at the mercy of hatred and sorrow.
All of Blanca's words here touched my heart, and I had a hard time enduring tears.
They were all very affectionate and precious words.
Giving up that no one like Natasha or Eiji will appear to him, Yut Lung explodes his dissatisfaction and shouts.
As Blanca said, I hope that Yut Lung will learn love and that there will be someone who will love him😌
※By the way, the author's original plan was that Ash's gender was "female".
It seems that there was also a setting that there was a physical relationship with Ash's educator and master Blanca.
However, it seems that the editor at that time told her that she was not suitable for being published in a shoujo(=girl's) manga magazine because the author drew her sexual depiction realistically.
And as a result of discussions in the editorial department, it seems that Ash's gender has changed to "male".
Blanca's wife Natasha's visuals are a bit like Ash.
There is a background of such character setting, and it is possible that the author intentionally imitated it.
This is just a personal guess, but it's true when it comes to gender changes.
It's a pity for Yut Lung, but it was very encouraging and reassuring that Blanca was on Ash's supporter in this difficult situation.
Due to the incident of Eiji, it is the strongest ally for Ash, who is very depressed now.
I was relieved that Ash smiled a little.
After all Blanca is one of the adults that Ash trusts. I thought it was really good♪
At Blanca's suggestion, Ash sneaks into the hospital where Eiji is hospitalized.
In order to tell the last farewell to Eiji...😢
Seeing Eiji sleeping in bed, Ash once again regrets not being able to protect him and blames himself.
Ash, who sheds tears quietly, mutters "Sayonara", a farewell word (=Japanese) learned from Eiji.
The series of scenes from here was painful and sad to see the video.
Awakened in response to Ash's mutter, Eiji desperately chases Ash while enduring the pain of surgery.
In the corridor of the hospital, the two reach out to each other and seek each other's existence.
As you may have noticed, it reflects the scene that appears in the OP.
➡ The OP of Banana Fish has been created as a hint for Episode since the 1st term, so when you have finished watching all anime of them, please look back at only the OP.
It may remind you of various scenes and evoke a storm of emotions in your mind.
     It's a moving storm!
The moment we think we can touch each other, a tragic wall reappears between Ash and Eiji.
After hearing the voices of Charlie and Ibe, Eiji forcibly pulled back his outstretched arm and shed tears to let Ash escape and shouted "GO!!".
Ash too, who wants to touch Eiji, forcibly suppresses his aching heart and runs away from the hospital crying.
...Why aren't they even allowed to touch??
Seeing the misfortune that fell on them, my heart was hurt and tears overflowed😭
The ending scene was a series of very tense scenes, and we lost our words and forgot to breathe.
Ash launches a final operation to rescue Max and his fellow gangsters who are held hostage at the National Mental Health Center.
But, as Blanca says, this plan is very risky.

Of course, Ash understands this, but it can't be helped because this is the best strategy at the moment.
Until the middle with the cooperation of such Blanca, strategy will proceed in a good direction.
However, at the last moment of the ending, we were shocked again.
Foxx shot Dino!!?😲 Ahh...is it the end here?😫
We have nothing to organize our minds and feelings, and our confused emotions remain restless.
From beginning to end, our hearts were tossed and confused, as if we were really on a roller coaster...💦
Next time, is finally the last episode of the anime "Banana Fish"!!
Due to the intention of the planning producer of "Banana Fish" introduced in the previous comment, the final episode is a special organization, so the video is 10 minutes longer than usual.
As I have already told you about this, Mr. Ishizuka, the voice actor who was in charge of Dino's voice, died of cancer a few months after finishing the recording of "Banana Fish".
Therefore, please pay attention to Dino's acting, which contains Mr. Ishizuka's soul!
And don't miss the ending of this wonderful story.
Let's watch over Ash and Eiji...and the future that all of the characters arrive.
     May they have God's blessing...
See you in the comments of the final episode~👋 Thank you for reading this far.
Cheers to the anime "Banana Fish"🥂✨ And give you a good luck!!

Thank you so much for the comment! That is SOOOO fascinating about Ash originally going to be a female character! Now that you mention it, I could really see that having been a possibility with the way the story works...that would have made this soooo so interesting! I'm glad they stuck with Ash being a man, because I could see (like you said) how the story would have focused a little different otherwise (like with Blanca and Ash having a formal relationship).
The hospital scene is SO SO SO sad -- it's the worse kind of tease, because I just want them to embrace, and they can't even do that! The tension in that scene was so palpable! @_@ Ughhhhhh noooooo...
And that last scene with Foxx shooting Golzine! I did NOT see it coming! @_@ That is so sad that Dino's VA passed from cancer after recording Banana Fish -- he definitely left behind a legacy with this show!
And I've watched the final episode (editing now) and the fact that it was 10 minutes longer was CRAZY! I was so happy to see that! :D Ahhhh, Sing crying makes me sad, but then, so much about this episode makes me sad...you're right...one more episode left. It's going to be a journey! Blanca.

Of course Blanca understands Ash. He's one of the few who do. Blanca's wife Natasha was his salvation and that part of his life turned out the worst way possible, of course he's trying to do the best thing for Ash, in his mind. Twisted around as it is, yeah.
So many people don't understand where Blanca is coming from, its interesting... Reading Private Opinion helps a ton, too.

Blanca is such a complicated character -- the manga helped, for me, to explain his character more -- but I felt his character was always "one step too late." I wish Blanca had more knowledge of the events you mentioned and came around to realizing Eiji was his anchor sooner rather than later.
This whole show is so complicated in how its characters have flaws and yet are still characters we root for and relate to -- I feel Blanca is a conflicting character, but I'm hoping that "Private Option" helps give more insight as well.
Still, people projecting on our self-loathing Ash...it's hard. REALLY hard.

@@Sonjay718 Mmm, its very complicated. Ash spends so much of the series at war with himself because of his fondness for someone like Eiji. Its so sad the way he's been brought up to think.
