I had the same feelings when this ended that I did after The Sopranos finale. I wanted a resolution and I needed to her Kofie say “hoopsters” at least one more time.
I used to do IT for a small school district in South Texas and in the staff break room of the High School there was a photo of some teachers from the 80s posing in crappy basketball uniforms with "The Dallas Cowboys" but it had zero context to it. Now I finally understand that picture I saw every week for five years.
Can we just acknowledge how badass the name "shooting stars" is for a basketball team? Shooting stars are an actual thing (so it can go along with the teams named after the sun, etc.), so the cheesy "we're stars at shooting" thing can go under the radar enough for there to be actual stuff from them. (Kofi is just a badass with creating names, I guess.)
He calls in for interviews at weei, my local sports radio station here in Massachusetts, has for years. It actually has led me to like him an awful lot, he seems like an okay guy despite some of the stories over the years.

I remember other teams doing the charity basketball game. I saw players from the Miami Dolphins play a local high school team when I was a kid. Fun fact: One of those high school players was future Heisman Trophy winner, Danny Wuerffel.
Story goes with the bad guy in charge, Irvin comes in to change things. Me: Oh, I want expecting him to be the good guy in this! Irvin takes over and ramps up all the bad stuff. Me: Yeah, that's more like what I expected.

Some time around 1994 or 95 I went and saw the 49ers play a charity basketball game against the Boise, Idaho police department. It was not particularly exciting.
I saw this team play as a child. I didn’t care about sports and I was very bored and don’t remember anything. We were in a small gymnasium and famous athletes were RIGHT THERE and I only remember looking under the bleachers to see if anyone dropped anything
Secret Base yes but I remember being upset about not being able to find my mom and I was crying and yelling at the players as they went into the locker room asking them if they’d seen my mom and my mom was literally standing 2 feet behind me. In my defense I was like 5. But still. Kinda funny.
