  • I recently made a trip to a favourite local bonsai nursery, All Things Bonsai and bought a new bonsai tree.
Join me on a road trip as I select a new tree to replace a beautiful shohin Japanese white pine that I lost, and also show you how to deal with the tiny beautiful flowers on white pine bonsai trees.
    Enjoy 🙏😁🌳

Anxious to see how you develop this one. I’m fairly newish to Bonsai, but the last tree I bought was a dwarf Japanese White Pine (cultivar Catherine Elizabeth) a few weeks ago from a regular nursery. It also had a nice thick Japanese black pine trunk base. I pruned it a good bit, and wired it also. I hated taking off the flowers as well. But, it’s done remarkably well, and is quite healthy. It’s helped me to watch your videos, as we’ve had a lot of rain in NC (USA) and I’ve made sure not to let it get too soaked. Hoping it continues thriving, and hope your replacement does well also. Thanks for sharing!

Always best with new trees to observe their growth habit first the first couple of seasons to understand their behaviour. With this one it’s mainly allowing the candles to develop and extend the branching. They grow very slowly though.

Lovely looking pine Jason and nice topic to mention. Unlike flowers on most things I generally leave them alone on the pine. It hasn't seemed to make any difference for my trees but I do recognise that many people say that it can divert energy elsewhere. Good luck with this one :)

I’ve tended to leave them in the past too, to appreciate their beauty, but never seen so many on one tree as this 😁

Nature abhors a vacuum - an empty spot on the bonsai bench will tug at the universe until it is filled again!! I love your new Japanese white pine and look to following it's journey. Did you remember to pick up your Biogold😁??

Ha ha I definitely remembered the BioGold but may need another bag before the end of the season 🤗

Lovely tree, looking forward to see you refine it into the future. Really liking your new, slower style of longer videos. Can't get on with the shorts

The shorts are just previews for the longer stuff.

It's so difficult to lose a tree, isn't it. But you selected a lovely replacement.

All Things Bonsai, WOW. Love that new tree, but wouldn't it have been easier to use a long tweezers to get those cones removed? Love the koi. Not sure if I previously told you, but my 3 year grandchild was a koi for Halloween.

AllThingsBonsai is about twenty minute drive away, but at the moment the traffic on the motorway is horrendous due to road works.
Those flowers are easy enough to just gently twist off, it might have been a bit fiddly with tweezers.
Sounds like a great costume 🎏

Lovely jwp the flowers do realse massive amount of pollen once developed you touch them or tap them and the dust from them is absolutely nuts that flys from them! They are definitely pollen I've never had any issues with steps in my branching with leaving them but depends on that tree and what way they are situated around that candle

Thanks Dougie. These were giving off clouds of pollen. 😊🌺

Certainly hope so. It’s in a good free draining soil so not overly concerned at the moment 🤗

Very nice tree. If I had come across it I would have spent whatever to get a tree like that.

Thank you for this information and the relaxing video :) How do you handle pruning on white pines? Is there a video handling this topic or maybe a video in the future?

    • @TheBonsaiGarden
      @TheBonsaiGarden  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It takes so much time to develop pines that I keep pruning to a minimum. What I do is reduce the number of candles developing at any one point to just two as these will form future branches. I have less pine videos as I learn their growth habits and how to care for them. There will be many more in future. 👍
