Welcome to my Japanese themed bonsai garden. Here I share content about my bonsai trees through the seasons, and my personal journey as I develop my bonsai knowledge and collection.
I aspire to be warm and generous - to make my content both aesthetically appealing and tranquil, while also entertaining.
If my legacy was that I was one of the nice guys in bonsai, and made some visually beautiful or very funny videos then I would definitely be happy with that. 👍
May you find reasons to be grateful every day 🙏

The Secrets of Mastering Japanese White Pine Bonsai
In this video, I take you through the process of wiring and shaping a beautiful Japanese White Pine bonsai, diving deep into both the technical steps and the underlying principles that guide successful cultivation. I acquired this tree from Adam and his team at All Things Bonsai (@AllThingsBonsaiSheffield ), a great little bonsai nursery just South of Sheffield in the UK.
As I carefully wire and position each branch, I explain the critical concepts of energy balancing within the tree, emphasizing how proper wiring not only guides the growth of the branches but also ensures the health and vitality of the tree. Along the way, I cover the key horticultural techniques that go into creating the distinctive, refined foliage pads characteristic of Japanese white pine bonsai, offering insights into the biology and aesthetic choices that help shape a truly elegant specimen.
Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned enthusiast, this video is packed with valuable knowledge on how and why these techniques are essential to cultivating a stunning Japanese White Pine bonsai.
Enjoy 🙏😁🌳

Smaller Bonsai Leaves Explained
มุมมอง 2.7K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
One of the most important aspects of bonsai tree cultivation is achieving a sense of scale. In bonsai, the goal is to create a miniature version of a full-grown tree, and a key element in achieving this realistic appearance is the size of the leaves. Smaller leaves help enhance the overall proportion of the tree, making it appear more lifelike. Large leaves, on the other hand, can disrupt the i...

Big Bonsai Pot Giveaway: WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Nice tree Jason I need to catch up on your videos 👊👊
Thanks Andy. I’m the same with so many channels, been distracted over Christmas.
Do you have safety precautions for the gravel trays when it comes to flooding?
They have drainage holes so should not be in standing water.
The Beast is magnificent.
Plenty for me to work on over the coming years and perfect my white pine knowledge and experience.
How much is a specimen like this worth? … respectfully
It’s worth what someone is willing to pay for it. For an idea of retail value, search Herons or Greenwood bonsai websites for crab apple bonsai.
Thanks for sharing your new bonsai and off course the useful tips 😉
My pleasure 😊
This is pretty awesome it would pain me to cut anything off lol
😂😂
Bloody window cleaners 😭couldn’t be one myself 😂 get him to use a shorter two foot pole,I am very careful around other people’s garden when working.
😆😆😆
"The Beast"--not very poetic, but perhaps we have moved away from that view of bonsai. This does not apply to you, but for some people bonsai seems more a science or engineering project. I live with faults and usually avoid the advice that "your tree needs to be any way except the way it is." Your channel is a good one. The best New Year.
Thanks 🙏
Nice Jason 👊👊
Thanks Andy
Awesome match
🙏
i love all of these! i just bought a Kojo-No-Mai myself can’t wait to get working on it!
They may lovely little bonsai. Enjoy
Can it be too cold to keep a bonsai in a shallow pot outside?
In theory, yes.
Your smile says it all. "Beast" is ironic, as beauty is the ying or yang. Perfect name Jason. And may be the duchess, is that ying or yang?, to this obvious journey. Certainly my excited opinion. Comments on the heavy and unbroken apex are easily said but the tree is not in my true view.... either. So I have no outspoken opinion, as it always looks different on camera, do your own thing Jason. Always enjoy your committed passion.
Ha ha. Thank you. I decided a couple of BIG pines would be the best way to properly learn their care and maintenance and have been a bit obsessed with them since the Bonsai Show LIVE in Telford. I can work on that apex and continue to refine it in coming seasons, no hurry. I just now need to add a big blackthorn tree and my collection is complete. 😆 All the very best for 2025
Thank you Jason, My large Beuvronensis has been a on going structural challenge. I'm sure you will agree, with out challenges, life offers less. Looking forward to more videos, tree's, new and old. Thank you for your work this year. Happy new year to you and all around.
Happy New Year Jason!!
Thank you Nigel. And a happy, healthy and prosperous 2025 to you and family. ❤️
😍😍❤
🙏🙏🙏
Great tree.
👍
Cool❤
🙏
Oh I do like the pale green round one. Bloody lovely.. who made it?
These are from ERIN BONSAI, they have a website.
Wonderful! I'm glad you were on the nice list
😂 I live a dull and virtuous life 😂😂
Love your stuff man!
I appreciate that!
Beautiful pot Jason
Thanks 👍
❤❤❤❤❤
🙏🙏🙏🙏
looks lovely mate :) going to look sweet!! did you manage to look at my acer palmatum and think of a name?
Naming your trees is a personal thing. But I always see maples as princesses of the tree world.
Hello young man 👍 Your right we do the very same thing name our trees after friends that like them . For example, Richie’s Beech & Warrens Cedar. Oh and Evie’s Maple 🍁. Makes it quick to identify them in conversation. 🌲👍 They always ask do you want to sell me that tree? The answer is always the same. (No) Funny thing was Warren sold me the Blue Cedar 5 years ago in the first place and always regrets selling it to me as the price on Blue Cedar bonsai has sky rocketed in past five years 😮🌲 Anyway Have a Happy new year and keep your bonsai . Kind Regards Shaun. 👍🌲
Thanks Shaun and all the best for 2025 👍
@ fair play 🌲👍
Stay cool old been 👍👍
Looks a perfect match
🙏
Beautiful Jason it will look stunning in that pot 🫶
Thanks Paul. I would normally not suggest a glazed pot for a pine, but the craggy glaze and the natural colours are a nice complement to the pine.
@ Sometimes rules are ment to be broken the pot will compliment the pine beautifully 🫶
Looks spot on to me 👍
Thank you 🙏
That should look very good in that pot.
Very awesome bonsai, especially the black pine in my opinion. To me they are absolutely beautiful and need no further work, unless I'm being hyper-picky... as someone pointed out; the top of the white pine is just one continuous pad tho doubtless composed of multiple branches. I'd look to see what can be done about defining them, esp on an apically dominant tree. I always love your drawings to fully explain the concepts. Well done.
Thanks. I can continue to define to pads of the white pine in subsequent seasons. For the black pine I need the foliage to fill out, while learning technique to shorten needle size. 🙏
my acer palmatum has the title "The Big Project" :) have a look and recommend me a name mate :)
👍
Well, you're wrong or made the wrong conclusion. It's not the pot, that limits the growth, like you say yourself at 4:22. It's the limited water (well, water it well), nutrients (well, feed it well) and space (well, repot the tree every year and cut all big roots off). And it's even worse. If you grow trees in the ground with no restriction you will end up with normal trees, but not with bonsai like you show us in your garden corner at 7:03. Tree's with lot's of apical growth and ramification at the top and nearly no or thin branches at the bottom ... unusable for creating bonsai.
At 9:10 you tell us to cut the trunk off ... what is really crazy. You will end up with a low quality bonsai, because professionals will always detect the wound. Even worse ... if you do this with a birch, it will start rotting inside before the tree can close the cut and will never get old. It will die in about 10-20 years. If not .. you will end up with a trunk that has the same diameter over the first few centimeters ... and your tree this way failes one major criteria for a good bonsai. Sadly enough ... all your trees that you show us at the end of the video look like this ... I think that all your selfgrown material looks like this.
Thanks for sharing.
Now that’s a tree!!!
I came across 'The Duchess' when looking round for trees on my 40th birthday recently, although she was a little too daunting for me! So glad to see she's gone to a good home and really looking forward to see her development into the future
Thanks.
Thank you Jason. Your words are appreciated. Harry
Cannot praise these books enough Harry. 🙏
Thank you 🙏🙏
🙏
🤔 there’s nothing ladylike about that tree or pot, very masculine, mate that’s got Napoleon all over it, a very small emperor lol
You can call it what you like 😆
@ obviously it should be called Lilly Tino then, it’s what’s would Nick would like
Wow!
🙏
2 amazing trees! congrats! Makes me really want to get a white pine now😂 they sell for qyute alot of money over here in the US. How do they hold up in the winter? Do u protect them?
They need a bit of protection drone excess rain.
Saludos amigos del bonsai me encantan los bonsai 😍
🙏❤️
I have several JWP bonsai but they are all grafted onto JBP roots which seems to make them more tolerant with watering in here in New Jersey. Was the one you lost not grafted?
👍
Very nice❤
🙏
What a beautiful tree Jason look forward to you working your magic on her love it 🫶
Thanks Paul.
Very nice 😍
Thanks 🙏
What a beautiful tree, thank you for taking the time to share this video Jason!
Thank you Darren 🙏
That’s a stunning tree
🙏🎁
I live in o cold area of Germany. In the most Bonsai books is written, pruning in the early spring. But I prefer Dezember. I have better results.
What a marvelous tree, Jason. Looking forward to join you on your journey, together with the Dutchess. They both look stunning.
Thanks Roland 🙏
