- Today, we're going to work on this untrained 500-year-old California Juniper dug from the Mojave Desert. I bought it at an auction and it is quite root-bound, so we are going to repot, reorient, prune, and wire this bonsai!

Everytime I've seen someone transplant: "Make sure you're careful not to damage the roots."
Bonsai Heirloom: "So I grabbed my reciprocal saw..."
Its actually better to tear up with the root ball a little bit it encourages the roots to grow out more.
How I felt the 1st time I seen someone take hedge trimmers to a cannabis plant
How to turn a Bonsai into a Bonsai. :)
@0:49 when he says the old folks would cringe. Made me smile.
I've been a landscape designer and selective pruning specialist, for the last 22 years. So naturally I wanted to pick up bonsai, I started bonsai about 11 years ago and I am still learning. This is an art form that takes tons of patience, perspective, and willingness to learn from the mistakes you have made along the way. And by learning the bonsai art form, I realized a lot about life that I had no idea was connected to bonsai. I know nobody here knows who I am, but in a nutshell, practicing the art of bonsai, change my perspective on life, and rectified the path I was going down. And then I find this channel.... The way he explains everything, the tone of his voice, even when ideas pop into his head and he voices them out loud he makes you feel as if you were in the room and it was just a conversation between you, him, and the bonsai. And I'm learning all kinds of new tricks I'm getting all kinds of new ideas. Thank you bonsai heirloom for this channel
In my younger days of Bonsai growth, I was able to go to the local nurseries and get all their "ugly" potted plants for a song. Then they caught on and I had to work for them to be able to afford the raw materials. I haven't worked on any for over thirty years now. My wife is telling me to get my behind a moving to start up again. Like your channel and I will keep coming back to enjoy your work with you. Stay safe.
You and I have the same strategy! At bonsai auctions, I go for the trees that look like they have potential instead of the very nice looking ones. I hope you will start doing bonsai again! It is a great hobby!
the world is lucky to have people like you to take good care of these magnificent trees
Thank you for the kind compliment! Hopefully, more people will get into bonsai so these trees have have great homes.
Thank you Mr. Milton. That tree is beautiful. Thanks also for your friendly, relaxed encouragement of all of us learning bonsai enthusiasts.
Thank you for watching and supporting me!
I'm just beginning a tree myself. My very first one. Sometimes I reflect on my age, nearly 72, and wonder how long I'll be around to see results. But then I realize that this art is not about me. If I manage to succeed in the early stages, my tree could be in another's care, as is your sublime Juniper. Your work is truly incredible, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn from you here!
Hey, I'm still doing bonsai at my age! And yes, bonsai is also about passing down your heirloom to a loved one who will continue to care for it. I plan to pass down my bonsai to my family.
@@bonsaiheirloom Humble thanks! 🙏
Man your tree will be admired and taken care of for generations to come. I really want to start growing one too
Do it !!! You 72 ? You’re doing it with the correct mindset. That’s the most important thing when we talk about art. God bless you 😊
@@jmedina5642 Thank you, Sensai! 💖
That was super awesome. I remember enjoying bonsai thru old books and college greenhouses prior to the TH-cam days. I’ve never seen an old tree moved and worked on like this before. Hearing the owner speak and manipulate the branches as he was working. Showing ideas and imagining the future. It really was very awesome to see. And as the highway outside my house fills the air with the sounds of weekend traffic, it was nice to hear the birds chirping in this video. To get a shared sense of peace. Thank you.
What a difference! The tree looks stunning.
It is the first time that I see your show. You explain everything so well that I feel like I could try this for myself. Thank you.
I love the side of the bonsai that has the sweep of the wood to the right then left as in the final shots. That is so beautiful.
Thank you very much!
Such potential in that tree. What a treasure to find at an auction.
I appreciate the explanation of what you are doing, it makes it far more interesting. Thank you
I look forward when all the leaves are in full bloom. Such an interesting tutorial thank you :)
Absolutely amazing transformation, before my eyes, incredible, thank you.
Wonderful work and a beautiful specimen to work with. I'm very excited to see how it progresses in the next few years.
thank you! my first time here and first time watching a tree being changed.
excellent thought process and good luck as you have a journey with this tree
This is the first bonsai video I've watched, and my first introduction to the art. I was mesmerized, scared, and nervous all at the same time! lol. My impulse was to treat something 300+ years old as very fragile, but you obviously know what you are doing and have tremendous skill. Thanks for sharing!
Fascinating! You are truly a master, sir!
I love your bold pruning style!
Impressive!!!
@17:08 the Juniper’s canopy almost resembles a beautiful reverse-parasol/umbrella structure. Such artistry within nature ❣️
Love your interpretation!
Great work Milton! I can’t wait to see what it will look like in the future.
You did a wonderful job Mr.Milton, it really looks astonishing!
Thank you.
Many thanks!
I appreciate to see how such an old tree is treated by experienced master hands.

I wish I had a pot like that so I could get a tree like that. Great stuff. Thanks

Absolutely beautiful, I have just started my Bonsai learning, I like to say to friends, I'm getting on my Bonsai.
That tree is, glorious, wow the way you fashioned the tree is remarkable.
For one, to find art like that in the wild is wonderful.
Beautiful Bonsai.
Dave.
An exquisite tree in two years, as you say! I can see it. I hope you will keep us abreast of the tree’s development in your design. This is fascinating work that you do. I hope good success in your progress, your good health, and every good blessing!
Definitely! I do progress updates on all my trees every 3-6 months, so please stay tuned. Thank you for your support!
What a spectacular tree ..has an amazing shape once the foliage pads are grown out....... Wow what a tree... I think the planting angle is perfect that you picked
Thank you for the kind words!
This tree has such an intriguing shape that I'd find really difficult to choose the orientation to keep. I think also the slanted one at 7:00 would be a nice one, with the apex guided to grow along that direction
What a beautiful looking Tree & it will make a great looking Bonsai tree.
That is a gorgeous, nicely balanced tree!
Just a Master ,Sir! Love. I look forward to watching this Anvient One grow and become even more beautiful and inspirational under your care.
Thank you so much goyr shareung your talent and Wisdom of this Ancient Art of Bonsai!
🙏💚🌱
Majesty in work! I started learning Bonsai in leadership school in the military (90's)...teaches not only patience, but how to plan across generations while being responsible for someone/thing besides yourself. Your collection is stunning! While junipers are amazing, I find fruit and other deciduous trees to be very rewarding (cherry, crabapple, walnut, and cedars!)
Wonderful!
First time viewing your site. Love Bonsai and your expertise and the knowledge you are sharing with us!
I cant wait for the follow-up of this cutting and continuations of the clipping and shaping of this tree. I can imagine the finishing shape of this early design.
It's great that you can envision the next stage of this tree!
Just gotta wait another 2 years

Breathe taking, here enjoying a lot with my son who sends he’s regards. Thank you for sharing
Thank you to you and your son!
I am learning from you and other experts. Thank you!
Love what you're doing 😊
Thank you for the video! I've always wondered how Bonsai trees were trained and I am now inspired to try one day!
Go for it!
I thought the big deadwood branch was going to be too horizontal but after you got it potted it has a slight downward angle which works. I probably would not have taken off so much foliage in one go. Not only it stresses the tree but it will probably cause it to push out a lot of juvenile foliage.
This is a very nice bonsai. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks for watching!
Bonsai, and Power tools. You can NOT go wrong !☺
This is awesome, my first time watching . Thanks for sharing this with us 🙏 ❤
