You're totally right: whatever the paint job you make, the most important thing is that you need a museum quality decal replica ! (it really makes the difference, even if it's more expensive). Congratulations for your job ! Old shells should'nt be abandonned with no care and full of rust.

They all look very natural and I like the colors which look authentic and nicely aged.

even if they are not 100% all original your taking the real shells that were neglected or forgotten and bringing them back to the day and look they may have had when some soldier wore it for his country and that is keeping this history alive, no problem with that and if you sell them making it more affordable for the youth to own and feel some world history to always remember what happened.

Love the helmets! They look very good, and I agree with you 100% about the "your not keeping history" thing, I think that if you didn't do this then all those helmets would rot away! Also I think that your helmets are so good that you should make a video on how you restore them, I've looked at other videos about restoring and they aren't in depth at all... anyways I really like your collection, and hope you can make that video! Thanks

Nice work. It was interesting seeing what they might look like under ideal conditions, it offers the chance to appreciate a more complete visual experience of seeing a true German stamping in period paint schemes. I totally get where you're coming from on doing these restorations. As long as you have some clearly written provenance for each one I don't see a problem (it would be sort of a pity if the true story got lost in the next century and these where misidentified). Your efforts are sort of a historical enrichment opportunity in the museum sense. Thanks for sharing.

Your paint work is outstanding! I’m trying to restore a German Helmet at the moment but am having trouble with the paint. The paint I am using keeps flaking off with the simple run of your fingernail over the paint. May I ask what type of paint you are using or how you prepare your shells before painting them? Thank you!

few holes. Big job, but very rewarding and in my opinion, respectful to the young man who gave his life in battle. Not for money, but why some people get upset at restorations is a mystery to me. well done Rob!

Also I think when the massacre at Malmedy happened, the SS started removing decals from their helmets so they weren't targets for the Americans. It is known that the Americans executed surrendering or captured SS regardless of who was actually involved.

In total they were one of the troops in the SS and the Wehrmacht that committed the most war crimes besides the troops of the Allgemeine SS and and the Leibstandarte SS, who committed double as much war crimes. Hi Robbie.
Really interesting video. I get where you're coming from with regards to restoration.
I dont own a German WW2 helmet yet but ever since a small lad ive always wanted one.
One of the biggest worries if you're going to purchase an original is buying a fake.
Ive read a lot of reviews about how to identify an genuine one but unless you know your stuff you could easily pay loads for a dud.
One chap whose review states that genuine ww2 german helmets always have the Batch number then maker and size.
On one of the big sellers of WW2 German helmets he's selling one as genuine WW2 but states the batch number is missing !
Well as a novice like me do I avoid it ? or take his word ? its priced at £395 but im surprised at that price .
Anyway like what your doing and as you mentioned its your collectiopn and hobby so good luck to you.

Sadly, the red cross decal is a fake fantasy decal.
They never were a thing i'm afraid...
Besides, the helmets with a bead (in this case, an M35) were as far as i know only police helmets or luftschutz helmets!
    regardless, very nicely restored!
and you probably already know this, but just incase... please never restore a helmet with original paint or decal visible!

Totalenkriegeuropa the more dust and rust the better? I might be ok with with dust but rust? Rust is corrsive though? I understamd why people like them as "original" but when it is to the point where it is going to be destroyed I rather prefer to help it out. I myself, don't fully restore the helmet, but I would remove any materials such as rust and dirt if neccessary. Not trying to be rude I just wanted to put in my input.

Original shells should be restored so they will be preserved. Old finds need to be stabilised at least. That means get all the rust off. Rust is not from the war, that is from the time after. I guess you collect war items? Also there are lots of re issued shells. They have been stripped of their original paint, repainted and reused by police and fire dept. for example. It is a good thing to restore these original shells to their old glory and repaint them like they would during the war. Nothing wrong with that. If you know your stuff, you should be able to see the difference. In a 100 years it will no longer matter if you have a repainted helmet or an original. As long as the shell is original. I'm so annoyed by so called collectors who let their collection rot away because they want their stuff in the 'original' condition. Covered in rust is NOT the original condition. It is NOT how they used it in the field. One of my own helmets is a m42 which has been stripped to bare metal on the outside by some idiot in the past. The inside is still original paint. I re painted the outside, applied aluminium oxide and the correct decal for its maker, to give the helmet its old glory back. It looks great again.
