- Nearly every map in Counter-Strike is a tried-and-tested, two-decade old masterpiece that, despite being a little stale, is revered and untouchable.
With one exception: Vertigo.
Shoddy, unfinished and forced onto a community who never wanted it to begin with, Vertigo stands as the one map in the game that nearly all competitors seem to despise.
But does CS:GO actually NEED its worst map?

I’m loyal to Vertigo because it was one of the maps I played on 1.5 back in the day. It is now the only map i play on mm, it’s current iteration is very good. It suffers from the stigma of previous versions.
I used to love it back in the 1.5 and 1.6 days. There were so many ways to trick people and screw around.

Same. I've been CS since pretty much the beginning. We first played CS on the Half Life mod and Vertigo was the first map my bro and played on.
I've never played Vertigo competitive until this current version we see today. I don't like it because it's way too small and you have to walk all the time. I don't think I have a stigma, the map genuinely is just cursed by its unchangeable flaws. I also miss the old color correction the first version of CSGO Vertigo.
I really like vertigo, because the small size of the map makes it easier to fake executes, or go behind enemies if they aren't watching their backs. It is refreashing.
I'd say its also harder because you can hear everything.
Ain't no way you said it's easy to fake. If you throw smokes from ramp area into A and run towards B, your rotation will be heard throughout the whole map. Throwing A ramp smokes from t spawn are your biggest fakes in the whole map, not mentioning B site
Ofc ppl w/ 6-ish faceit lvls love it, cuz on fucking 6 - 8 lvl's its easy to do litteraly anything. U can rush b with no smokes and molly's and still win the round, cuz its fucking 6 lvl's
I mean yeah you can just run and gun on level 10 against bots who dont know how to play the map
But easy to fake? First of all, its not easy to fake on any map if youre not against bots. And on vertigo you can hear the enemies basically around the entire map lmfao

I’m perfectly fine with Vertigo and Ancient if it weren’t for the fact that I get blatant “global elite” players whenever I’ve played those maps on matchmaking. Meanwhile it always gets banned for in my Faceit games, and nobody queues it on 5EArena.

@@meferswift I like Ancient, I really do. The layout and the potential of the map really appeals to me. But I can never get it on 3rd party servers here in SEA (level 4-6 Faceit, 5EArena, Sostronk, etc), and whenever I play it on matchmaking(DMG-LEM is my current range of ranks) I've had bad experiences in terms of match quality(imbalanced teams, 5-man vs 5 solos, cheaters). More neutral towards Vertigo but in this region, it becomes a Chinese spinbot fest real quick

Why don’t I ever see anyone talking about how nice it is to literally be able to only play the maps you like? Loading into Breeze for the 4th time in a row is absolutely miserable, but I can play Cache and Mirage all fucking day and never play anything else. I absolutely love it
I actually don't mind playing the same 5 maps in cs, I never feel like I'm sick of either of them and need a new map like asap. There are maps I simply dont play, like vertigo or ancient, but overall its not as bad as it could have been. At least in cs, you can always feel the difference if you're playing inferno, mirage , nuke etc. I remember from Overwatch days every single map felt exactly the same for some reason
Idk, but when i play in the game that has no map pool and only randomly selected maps, i don't feel like i want any of them. Maybe its an inner feeling about me having no choice, or its just situations similar to what i experienced today in valorant - i had 3 heavens in a ROW, i hate this map, hate it, but i have no choice but to play it. But in cs... Man i played 25 mirages in a row because i wanted to, and i wasn't sick of it, give me choice goddamn it, i want to play 25 ice boxes in a row!
because in overwatch since the main focus is the teamfights u dont really play the map much, especially in ranked, its generally entire team pushing/fighting one big open area and maybe a dps or two on off angles/flanking
@@nerrvous1 I do agree with you, and overwatch is nothing like cs, it simply felt the same on any location Ive played, so it kinda got boring real fast. If I play 3 games on Inferno in a row, and then find a match on Nuke, it feels like Im playing a whole new game if that makes sense. Each map has its own pace, tactics and overall mood in a way, even Vertigo. I will play vertigo if it pops up every now and then on faceit and will still enjoy the game, but it has a sort off feel for me personally.

Except that people never vote for anything other than Mirage, and sometimes Inferno and Nuke. They never ever switch it up and play overpass or train or anything

"puggy" refers to a pug, or a pick-up game, which means utility wise, and strat wise it has a low skill ceiling, and instead requires on good aimers running around gunning everyone down.
seeing the menu screen in 3:00 and seeing the same exact maps that we have in the pool right now depresses me, ancient came out, but its not the map that i wanted to be added, feels weird when playing it, maybe cause its still really new, but the players base also just doesnt want to learn new maps
I remember when I first time played CSGO i played it on vertigo and I played so bad I got kicked out of the game

Vertigo is actually good people just got so used to playing on the same maps that as soon as they had to learn and adapt to a new thing everyone was like "omg worst ever" bur in reality they're just getting outplayed

I know I’m late with this but I think the best thing to make vertigo better would be add an early B route from top stairs. One right to go to mid then left to a window that is over the B stairs. It would make going B easier. Instead of having one angle to hold with something, you now have to hold two

I desperately want cobble back, my all time favorite map, train is awesome as well, cache has always been a okay map for me, at least the old cash and not the new one. Same with inferno, loved the old one and hate the new one. Even though it’s mostly the same, it doesn’t feel the same
You can play cache in mm and faceit, pretty sure they reverted most of what they did to cache, with a few minor exceptions in T spawn, around A site and something else. They even brought back simple's graffiti.

For me, I enjoy the maps that have been in the competitive play for a while so they are battle tested. When one feels too “solved” or the gameplay feels repetitive, instead of removing it, I like them changing lanes, rotation options, etc. make the flow feel completely different.

Vertigo is not even near being a bad map. The only ones that claim it sucks are Mirage and De Dust 2 Andies that refuse to adapt and learn new maps because they keep playing the same old maps over, and over, and over again. Vertigo offers a different pace, a different style and it is different, but not worse.

The problem is that Valve stopped updating Vertigo. Also it was moved to active pool too fast it should have been in reserve pool longer.
What in vertigo should be changed?
@@brownbreadinc127 IMO T should have better spawn for ramp and mid (B meeting point is perfect). Elevator should be shortened so A site and short would be larger. Boxes at A site should be moved around to make the site less awkward (to reduce smoke spams). B stairs should be wider (maybe remove that box and make both ends of stairs wider). Ramp should be shortened. Only my opinion and I haven't tested then so I cant be 100% sure how they would turn out. Idea is to reduce spamming smokes at A and make ramp control easier for T so they don't have to fight for it every round. Also mid and B would be slightly easier for T further to endorse favour them. A should be easier to hold and retake for CT to balance the buffs T get here.

Vertigo starts being a lot of fun in high elo games. I've always enjoyed vertigo when I am in a team around 3k elo.
Vertigo has been the new Nuke. Now the quest for the next Vertigo begins as Valve is trying to shake things up in the map pool. Will it be a old one with the return of Ancient? Will it be a new one with the addition of novel map in the list? Mocha, maybe the recent Basalt? Or will it be a change to a map already cemented in the meta that will make it the target of player's ire, like the new wall on Dust2 (and by the way should we call it Dust 2.5 with all the changes it has undergone troughout the years)?

I personally really really hate playing vertigo, but I can understand Valve's decision to put it in the map pool, and why it should stay there. And, it is cool seeing a different style of the game being played.

I tell you why does it CS need Vertigo.... Either, it has many limited corners and limited peeking ability (or you fall to your death) or it has infinite angles and unlimited execute possibilities (such as that huge strafe jump Astralis invented) So.... It's all about better map understanding and control! Let me know what you think!

As a silver I found vertigo enjoyable. Jumping out of the building, running and gunning with the m249, being like a total bot, it feels like a nice change compared to the other more serious map.

Haven isn’t a terrible map but the three bomb sites are a mess. In higher gameplay b is hardly used as a site but I think it should just be removed and made into mid.
Bind isn’t a terrible map either, I like it but I know many people who don’t because there is no mid presence at all in that many. Mid is just not existent.
Split is just awful there is nothing really to say there. Back when I used to play the game a lot it was our best map but I just hate it.
Icebox i actually don’t mind either, a lot of people don’t like it but the more you play it it gets better. Reminds me of dust II, the map can get annoying if certain lineups are ran but if you’re winning it’s fun. Just the design of the map is wacky.
Breeze is just on the same category as split. It’s like they tried to take cobblestone and make into a Valorant map. There are way too many angles, especially to clear and a viper is a must need on that map.
Ascent is actually the best map in Valorant, typically plays really well. Not much to say there besides the annoying wallbangable spams people do with the Odin.
The problem with majority of the Valorant maps is that it just seems like it’s hallways connecting into hallways. No real rotations pathways to sites.

you already know more than most players now go crush them
10-15 smokes is enough for FPL-C (on the 0.1% something other than Mirage Inferno Dust is played)
Also learn prefire on yprac map, you will pwn enemies holding headshot angles which the map is full of them

the game needs better anticheat and matchmaking more than it needs vertigo at a non-pro level. CSGO is bleeding NA players to Valorant because of the better MM and anticheat, yet Valorant has an inferior map pool. Players would rather play a more balanced cheater free game on worse maps, than a cheater/smurf infested game on a gold standard map.
bro the NA scene for pug and pro has been nonexistant for years. Better matchmaking and anticheat wont magically make it reappear.
Play faceit free is very good and you have 128ticks servers and a very good anticheat

T spawn on dust 2 need a change. It's not good that they can see how many CT's are crossing unless CT's throws a smoke and they can still shoot them while they're crossing it.

It's the Counter-Strike community special -- complaining about new things for 20 years running! Without scrub quotes, we would be nothing.
CS:GO has changed a lot for the better over the years since its release, not just the maps. The controls were slippery and recoil favored spamming.

Now at CS2, Vertigo is one of the best balanced maps in my opinion. It has various types of positions, routes and multiple choices for rotation. I like it, but my favourite is Inferno.
How can the map be strategic when mid has no value and B has no value lol
Map needs another rework to mid or B while we're at it. It's already Cache or Cobblestone-level stale because the map doesn't have much to offer when it's A Ramp Simulator every game.
