  • The Power of Habit Animated Summary by Charles Duhigg
    Do you want to change your life? If so, you need to first change your habits!
    We are creatures of habit. When you wake up in the morning, you probably follow a certain routine… Checking your cell phone, checking your e-mail, drinking a glass of water, getting some coffee, etc. Throughout the day you can count on other habits to occur, even if you are not fully aware of them. We think that we’re making well considered decisions… but we are not. Most things that occur throughout the day happen automatically without much thought at all. Habits run your life. If you want to change your life, change your habits. Fortunately, once you understand how habits work, you can change them with greater success. That’s what this article is about - what habits are, why and how they form, and how to change them.
    This is a summary of The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg, with my spin own on it.

    Much better than the actual book.
    Like most nonfiction books, the author beats the point to death before moving on.

      Ha. I agree that most books are wayyy too lengthy. Most, not all.
      I guess they feel that their book has to be 200-400 pages like every other author.

      Awesome! It's been 1 year, I hope you're still pursuing what you love. I worked in the civil engineering field for 20 years. I started out with drafting and surveying and then design and construction management. Civil engineering is a good career choice.

    Liked the clip. If your habit is reading books, you might reasonably that a person with this habit to be more knowledgeable and more able to solve problems as the reader would have more knowledge to draw on. Might be a good thing. Because there are frequently jealous, perhaps, and Uncle would like to have less jealousy, apparently (see PBS' NOVA 'The Violence Paradox'). Success in life is frequently granted by legal class and it is the Law of the Land. Watch PBS or the evening TV news over a few weeks. Seems to be the case, anyway. There are a number of Federal subsidies and matching funds that have had the desired effects, according the various news outlets. All to loud public Democratic acclaim. My question then is does Uncle get to legally call 'King's-- X?' I think that this last is pretty silly, frankly.

      All the grammar, spelling, and punctuation needs to be perfect or a teacher could be sued if he or she used it for a class, regardless is any ADA students are in a class. This is a US Federal law.

      Good to know. I’ll try and add them. I have the script around here somewhere. Btw, I think that is a good law for classroom instruction - but never knew that it was actually a law… makes sense I suppose.

    You’re saying that it’s impossible to quit a nicotine addiction because you replace one form of nicotine consumption with another. What’s the point? 🤔

    • @wisdom-for-life
      @wisdom-for-life  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Stefan, I probably didn't explain it very well.. I think I was trying to say:
      Well, you're still getting the nicotine, but it's a different action that you're taking (and not killing your lungs)... so the gum becomes the habit instead of smoking. And then you can start to reduce your gum intake and eventually stop chewing the nicotine gum.
      I suppose you could apply this same principle (slow reduction) to cigarettes... When I used to smoke, I would cut back until I was only having 1 a day and then it was easier to stop all together..
      Either way, I was only using it as an example to show how habits actually work (cue, routine, reward)... hopefully the nicotine explanation didn't jumble that up too much....
