The Power of Now Animated Summary

  • The Power of Now, by Eckhart Tolle - The concepts in this book can come across as very simple, but don’t let that trick you into dismissing them without any contemplation. these concepts, although simple, are profound.. The power of now gets into some deep stuff that needs to be reflected on way beyond a short video summary… With that said, keep an open mind going into this. You may get an initial reaction to resist what this book teaches, but just put your opinions and judgments to the side for a few minutes and consider the possibilities.
    wisdom-for-life.com/the-power...
    The three primary concepts I want to focus on are as follows: 1, you are not your mind, 2 - the present moment is all we ever have, and 3 - acceptance of what is. There are many other lessons in the book, but I want to focus on these for now just to keep it simple… and then maybe I’ll make a part 2. Let me know if you’d be interested in a part 2 in the comments.
    Part 2 is here! • The Power of Now by Ec...

    This stuff changed my life. I suffer from depression and suffered from constant suicidal thoughts for years. Meditation is the key. I’m also very spiritual (raised Catholic). Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t practice meditation and also be Christian. You absolutely can. Peace be with you.

      God bless you jjsmama! I'm so proud of you & your victory. What a joy it is to hear your short testimony! The book has given me much insight to viewing life's situations & it was a God sent to me also...Was involved in drugs when younger but the lord opened my eyes to see the errors of my ways. I'm not perfect but strive for perfection. Now I'm trying to teach my children this important concept of the power of living in the moment...they are getting it! Alleluia!

      RAGWise I read most of the book about five or 10 years ago. However, I never managed to read the whole thing. The last chapter was very hard for me. Then, when my son asked me what I want for my birthday, I told him I wanted a book on tape of this, because I had a job then that was half an hour away, and so I could listen to the CD of it on my way there and back. An hour a day. Well, it worked. He got me the book on tape, and I listened to it faithfully for an hour a day. And any other time I got in the car. So now I have read the book through about 10 times. And that has been great! It has made a wonderful difference for me!

    What a beautiful summary of Eckhart's principal ideas. They are subtle and often difficult to grasp. I appreciated the way you addressed the problem of misidentification: "If I am not my mind, then who am I?" You answered that question well, explaining how a person is not their mind, but the observer, the witness, the untethered consciousness. I appreciated your explanation of what happens when you are willing to give the witnessing consciousness more "air time." You described how unconsciousness begins to dissipate, inner spaciousness expands, and intuitions show up. And I appreciated your explanation of what happens as mind chatter drops. You outlined how distressing thoughts about the past and the future lose their grip. A person settles into the peace of being themselves, without resistance to what is happening now.

    This is probably the most precise summary of Tolle’s teachings I have ever seen. There is one point I find important that many people seem to miss: True acceptance begins only when there is no longer a notion of somebody accepting. Acceptance is not a doing but a being, thus not subject to concepts of time, will, trying, conditions, degrees, goals. Even the popular idea that “everything is already accepted”, hence “nothing to do” avoids the central point: that YOU ARE this timeless presence called "acceptance" - while that voice in your head is trying to convince you otherwise. Just saying.

    This was a delightful production (not just a video). I read **The Power of Now** circa 1995 when it was released and many times since, including listening to the Audiobook, which was released later. The topics of the book are foundational, timeless and have no depth (ie, there's no end to where it can take you, if you practice what it teaches). I am better for it, but nowhere near enlightenment: Some things we'll just have take with us to our grave, and that is part of acceptance, too. Back to this video: It is supremely well done, well articulated, well drawn, and true to the book. What a delightful summary video and presentation. Bravo! 🤗❤️

    I really needed to hear this.

      @wisdom-for-life  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad you enjoyed it. You are not your thoughts and in fact, you don’t control your thoughts! They just arise in your awareness. Quite different from what we assume and what we have been told all of our lives…

    This is perfect! I just listened to the first chapter of this book and this video helps to put a visual to his words and in turn makes it easier to implement. I wish there was a video like this for every chapter!

    • @wisdom-for-life
      @wisdom-for-life  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. Yes, very complicated lessons in the book because our brains are trying to analyze it, but he is speaking to us about things that are beyond thought.. So, it's simple, but at the same time, very confusing. Just keep reading and re-reading the book. Take a break (several weeks/months) and re-read it.. Remind yourself of the things that resonate with you. Over time, it starts to come together (at least that's how it worked for me).

      WISDOM FOR LIFE very good advice! I’m taking my time and reading 1 chapter at a time and taking notes on each chapter then searching youtube for videos like yours. Your way is more simple :).

    This is an excellent summary. On a larger scale, by solving the profound question of who am I, one will solve the question of ones purpose which is nothing else but the meaning of life. There will be no longer be any doubts or quesions as simple state of being will suffice.

      Hey Deborah, I have 2 videos on the power of now and also a longer text summary on my website - russjamieson.com/the-power-of-now-eckhart-tolle/
      Use that if he prefers to read, otherwise, the 2 videos should suffice. Thanks and best of luck to your son.. It is a tough topic that just takes time (years)

    I just started going through the book for at least the third time, getting new epiphanies over and over.
    Among many things I really like the "There are no problems, only things to deal with" concept. Quote "The worst-case scenario in this moment would be to be in a life-threatening situation. But would you call that a 'problem'? "

    • @wisdom-for-life
      @wisdom-for-life  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment. Every time I re-read this book, I get more insights too..
      Great quote... wish I could include it in the video :)

    • @ttephi3667

      Well, what would you call it then? I would call that a big problem. I haven't read the book yet 🤔😊

    • @boyeoshinaga6230
      @boyeoshinaga6230 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually it’s your mind that makes a problem. When faced with a life and death situation, your mind can’t make it a problem, you act instinctively and whatever happens happens.
      Either way, it’s not something to obsess about, it’s not a problem.

    I deeply appreciate you, your "talents", your insights and your willingness to contribute to others. This video beautifully captures, in a very useful and practical way how I can "be" the conscious "manager" of my mind.
    I am going to experiment for a week and watch this video upon awakening and just before I retire for sleep. It's a sublime, short course to "re mind" my mind of those "wisdoms" which will advance my evolution as a Human Being.
    I predict my experiment will become a daily practice. Of course to do so is to violate the essential counsel contained within this offering.

      Hi John. Very glad to hear you like the video. Thanks for the very nice comment.
      Initially, I made these book review notes for myself so I could refresh weekly or whenever. I always seem to forget so I need the constant refreshers. Really glad you can use it as a reminder as well :)
      Best of luck staying in the present more and more. Thanks again for the thoughtful comment.

  • @BrickUnit
    @BrickUnit 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    by becoming self aware and bringing your attention to the present you are actually taking yourself out of the present because you are occupying your mind with the thought of being present. its like a paradox.

    • @anqihuang4229
      @anqihuang4229 ปีที่แล้ว

      But I think being present is not a thought it's awareness and feelings. The moment you realize you are not in the present you stop thinking and become conscious of your being and your surroundings.

    Stop thinking about a part 2,that's twice you've mentioned it in the video,you need to stay in the now and just be !!
    I know I know-the ego as landed lol,just letting ppl know that the ego gets a sense of "ITSELF" when you constantly correct others,always complain and only see things your way.
    Great video though-keep up the good work ❤👍🏻
