OK here goes. Hangovers can be minimised. Alcohol reduces blood glucose levels. The liver focuses on alcohol metabolism preventing it from maintaining blood glucose at stable levels through gluconeogenesis. Eating some complex carbs after finishing drinking (eg a wholemeal egg sandwich or say some crisps) helps maintain stable blood glucose levels while asleep after drinking. The brain therefore gets a more stable supply of glucose, which vastly reduces the hangover headache and light sensitivity the following day. I also take a vitamin B complex and maintain fluids the next day. However I like the hint about zinc, something I haven't tried before.
same - doesn’t really make a difference with 1 or 2 but anything 3 and up you will notice the next day It won’t fix your sleep but it significantly lessens a hangover. Been using it for years at this point, I’m kind of surprised Rhonda mentioned there’s no studies about it
Preventive things that have helped me deal with hangovers - purely my experience, can vary for others: 1. Pacing with around 30-45 ml of 42.8% hard liquor per hour (or equivalent v/v beer and other types) - that's because typically your liver can metabolize this much alcohol per hour. (I'd read this in some scientific literature, do your own research, but found to be true for me) 2. If possible, have hard liquor with water only OR if having beer then chug a glass of water after every pint - water replenishment is key 3. End your day with a glass of water with a pinch of salt, and start the next day with a glass of water with a pinch of salt - replenishment of lost electrolytes 4. Have a high fiber and high protein breakfast the next day I've been able to manage with no/minimal handover even with long drinking sessions.
Best treatment I found for a hangover is oxygen. As a former paramedic, we would often use this a way to lessen the day after struggles. Of course this is not available to the general public
I knew a paramedic that liked to drink. He would legit setup an IV drip for himself to avoid hangovers and sometimes before his graveyard shift after getting wasted lol.
Please survey beer hombrewers. I find dry beers and some lagers which have lower levels sugars create hang over as compared to Ales whi h have a higher sugar content
Hovenia dulcis comes from the Japanese raisin tree. You take about a level teaspoon with water an hour before you start drinking and just like magic..no morning handover. I know it works because ten years ago I bought a pound from China. If you’re a hard core drinker like I was it only works great the first time but a weekend warrior it’s perfect.
Also Rhonda, for a future vid, hoping for a deep dive into mitigating microplastic intake from food, since I heard you are using a reverse osmosis filter, and after reading omega3 pills have a lot of microplastic particles :/ You're doing an excellent job!
Best trick for me has been to make the last drink of the night non-alcoholic. You don't really need another alcohol boost if you're leaving anyway, get more (non-alcoholic) liquid, and get more time for the alcohol to go out of your body before you go to sleep. Get a red bull instead of red bull vodka, or alcohol free beer or cider, mocktail etc
What is the obsession with alcohol? Wouldn't your time be better served talking about all the junk food on every street corner and in advertising. I want nutrient guidelines along side fast food ads.
