Young Mother Has Life-Threatening Blood Poisoning | Inside The Ambulance | Real Responders

  • Paramedics attend to a mother of two with sepsis. Sepsis, also known as blood poisoning, can be fatal and so paramedics are eager to rush her to urgent care. Elsewhere, a man is excessively bleeding from his arm. To stop the bleeding paramedics apply a pressure bandage but as that reduces blood flow they need to get him to hospital.
For the very first time, an ambulance has been rigged with cameras that provide a unique perspective on what it's like to respond to emergency calls. 'Inside The Ambulance' follows paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service in England as they take us right into the heart of the action. We see heroism at work in the actions of these first responders. We also enter the lives of people in crisis and learn their unique stories.

In Canada it’s law you have to pull over for every emergency vehicle. If you don’t you get fined. Maybe the UK needs the same law.

I had Sepsis back in 1998 and I didn't get to the hospital until I was having chills and fever and couldn't hardly stand. My doctor told me I had something wild in my blood. Stayed in the hospital for 5 days on massive antibiotics. Obviously, I survived but it was touch and go for a couple of days. Scary stuff.

I’ve had sepsis 4 times with the first and fourth being the worst. The 4th was due to double septic pneumonia and 7 days in the hospital and the first one was due to a port infection and UTI and I was hospitalized for 29 days including the ICU. Had a fever over 105 and I couldn’t eat because of the numerous IV antibiotics and I lost 35 pounds while hospitalized. It was awful. Had renal failure as well. The other two times I was septic it was early sepsis and 5 days each in the hospital. It’s awful to have especially with the first one nearly killing me

Amazing to see actual use of an ambulance service. In the US with so many having no health care and ambulances so expensive they really only show up for imminent death situations like heart attacks and gunshot wounds. Otherwise, even with insurance we mostly drive ourselves to the ER or get a friend to drive us. And of course we have no idea if our condition really should have had an ambulance transfer.

That must be awfull. I’m living in Norway and our healtcare is very similare to the helthcare in the UK. We don’t need insurance to get care, medicines, treatment in hospitals etc. I’m so happy to be living in a country where healt is easily accesible. I’ve got a connectiv tissue syndrom which is flaring now and then. I don’t know what it would be like to have to pay a bill for an ambulance to the ER. It’s pretty horrible to think of❤❤❤❤

@@BeatheGoth-uk5tj Very glad you have that situation. It is so frustrating that half our country has been brainwashed into thinking that universal health care is socialist and therefore evil. Even people who are poor enough to need it. They vote against their own interests out of fear. Sigh.

Also, if you are rich you take a ride in an ambulance. I remember needing one so badly, I was telling the strangers not to call one because I couldn’t pay for it. I was in school with no healthcare. Everything is build separately, imagining, blood tests, all of the equipment they use on you right down to the heated blanket…you end up with bills coming in from everywhere. I’ve been sick for 12 years I needed lots of surgeries so I got them without insurance now one out of the two hospitals here won’t see me until I go bankrupt or pay them, I don’t even have the money to go bankrupt. None of what you do pay for comes with a good bedside manner! Since I got sick in the US I hate this country. I have had to fight for care while being so so sick! It didn’t matter how sick I was though because I had no insurance. America isn’t the greatest country in the world, it’s just an arrogant statement by a very young country.

@@mariahanastasi6575 It must be hell to have any illness and to recive bills for whatever little item used by ambulance , hospital etc. I’m so happy to live in Norway where most of the healthcare is either for free, or where you pay a small fee until you get an exemptioncard:
You receive an exemption card (in Norwegian: frikort for helsetjenester) for public health services once you have paid more than a certain amount in user fees. When you show the exemption card, you do not have to pay user fees for the remainder of the calendar year.
I wish this was true for citizens in the USA too, but with the political system being the way it is - where money speaks larger than words - and a person who looks like an orange bamboo, and who probably has both Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Antisocial Personality Disorder is able to become a president - what kind of people want such a person to become the leader of the country? When I was a child , I wanted to go to the US , and the US was a better country in so many ways than what it is today. It sad - for an outsider, or bystander, to watch this once great country being ratteled from the inside and turn into a place where people die because they drown in medical bills - it’s crazy, mad! There is such a big difference between people too - the rich and wealthy versus those who haven’t got money to care for themselves. I wish there were somebody sane, safe , kind, strong who could take over as a president.

Had complications as well and all started thanks to a UTI and a port infection and I had numerous bacteria so I was started on several IV antibiotics! My 2nd and 3rd with sepsis was early stage and I spent 5 days in the hospital and the 4th one was due to double pneuma’s I spent a solid week in the hospital. We had a head start on the antibiotics outpatient thanks to my doctors infusion center where I got IV antibiotics outpatient but it wasn’t enough. I hope to never go through that again.

@@debrakleid5752 I’ve also had sepsis a number of times , and once I went into septic shock.
I was lucky that I allready was in the hospital, and was quickly transferred to the ICU. My fever spiked all the way up to 42,5 Celcius ( which is about 108 Farenheit - I’m living in Norway and we are using Celcius, not Farenheit), and I was shaking and trembeling so bad , my whole bed was ratteling and clanking.
I honestly thought I was going to die , but my body felt so weak and painful that I just didn’t care anymore. I felt like my whole body was burning.. I only wanted it to stop.
Fortunatley for me , the doctors decided to put me in an induced medical coma, so that way they could control my breathing and sirkulation , while they gave me antibiotica i.v infusions and treatment
The Septic Shock came as a complication to flesheating bacterias inside one of my tighs, and during 1 week I had 5 surgeries to remove parts of the muscle and the mucle fascie, plus soft tissue.
I had what they called « necrotizing soft tissue infection (NSTI ).
A huge number of people in Northern Europ and in Scandinavia , die from this kind of infection every year .
The doctors told me that they maybe had to remove my leg- before they put me under/into coma , but I was so ill that I really didn’t care.
I only wanted to reassure my parents that I would survive, and that I was going to wake up again. The doctors told my family that they couldn’t promise them that I was going to be okay.
Well, this happened in 2011, and the only visual mark from the 5 weeks I spent in the hospital, is a 22 centimeter long , and 2-4 cm deep scar on one of my tighs.
The surgeons had to remove a large part of the muscle and soft tissue. I don’t have any trouble walking either, so the surgeons , the anesthetists, nurses and everybody in the team around me did an amazing job !
After I moved to this town which lies on the coast , I’ve been having a lot of problems with lung infections, so for several years I had at least 2-3 lung infections every year. Those were mainly caused by viruses, and I didn’t need hospital stays or treatments for them.
Not until the spring of 2017 and 2018. I had 2 hospital stays each year, 4 in all.
And 2 of the infections gave me sepsis and other complications such as water in my lungs and a collapse of the lung tissue called Atelectasis.
I’ve got a connective tissue syndrome named Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which is caused by mutated collagen, so I was born with it. As this is a genetic disease, there’s no cure.
I’ve got very hypermobile joints that can sublucate and/or dislocate just by turning around in my sleep, or by standing up. My skin bruises easily and my bloodvessels are extremly fragile, so doing blood work can take hours and that the vampires(the lab crew) need to be patient. My issues with my tissue are the sinners when it come to complications to lunginfections.
Since my connective tissue in my organs and veins are more fragile than in « normale people», I often get sepsis earlier and more often too.
I’m just happy that I’ve always been selfironic and having the ability to see the humour in situations where others just can’t.
I ‘ve been told by many doctors and other healtcare personell that I’ve had more luck than what is normale, and they think it’s strange that I’m still alive , because « under normale circumstanses you should’ve died years ago, but you’re still here».
I honestly don’t have a clue of what to say when they tell me that…

My Dad has stroke related dementia and will tell anyone who listens that we do nothing for him and have abandoned him.
