  • A 73-year-old man with COPD or chronic lung disease is struggling to breath. Worried he is suffering from an infection, paramedics take him to hospital for further treatment. Another elderly patient is suffering from shortness of breath. Paramedics are concerned it is something fatal and call in a red sepsis alert. Elsewhere, medics visit a woman who has SVT (supraventricular tachycardia), a serious heart condition.
For the very first time, an ambulance has been rigged with cameras that provide a unique perspective on what it's like to respond to emergency calls. 'Inside The Ambulance' follows paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service in England as they take us right into the heart of the action. We see heroism at work in the actions of these first responders. We also enter the lives of people in crisis and learn their unique stories.

Andy and Emily remind me of me and my dad. We don’t work in the same profession, and my dad lives in a different country now, but we are still best mates. We talk every single day and I miss him terribly. -Saoirse, West Belfast, NI

25:19 so refreshing and such a relief when a patient has this attitude and we don’t have to try and explain and convince them why they should go 👏👏

I once had severe chest pain and I thought I was having a heart attack. Went to ER but no sign of cardiac issues. Turns out the pain was caused by esophageal spasms, from acid reflux. I'll bet that's overlooked as a cause of chest pain.

Why do people call an ambulance for a bump on the head? Ive worked in hospital for many years and I still don't understand wby you would tie up the service over a bump on the head.

the disconnect in basic medical knowledge between people who do anything healthcare adjacent and people who don't is really significant. they just don't know, plus it's the UK so having them come out probably costs like four pence and a handshake

I mean, if a child her age has a head injury, it’s better to get checked out just to be safe. I agree the mom could’ve driven, but imagine being the mom, having no medical training or knowledge, and seeing your kid with a bleeding head wound. Plus having other children to care for at the same time probably adds to that stress

What you guys saying, wow, they call them for a bump or a temp,,the NHS takes care of them. Thats what not worrying about losing your home to an ambulance call and a short stay in hospital looks like. Yes i would have gone to the urgent care for alot of this,,but the health system is set up differently. Is it perfect,,no. However you only have to get sick once and pay for a year on a short ride and stay here, to know it has some positive points and we could have a better system. First,,stop letting drugs companies advertise on T.V. How do you think they pay for it,,check your co-pays.

It took me a while, but it's just like here in the States. Every area has a different way they talk. I'm in Louisiana, and we took a trip to Ohio, every where we went people thought we talked funny! Lol

Little confused why ppl would call an ambulance because their kid has bumped their head? They didnt pass out, have a seizure, get sick, have a headache or anything. Just call them over to put a bandaid on? 😂 Take them to A&E yourself lol

I bet the black lady, Olympia think her name was is suffering from esophageal spasms. That pain will bring you to the floor, excruciating. The pain can radiate to your back, arm, neck and jaw just like a heart attack. I get them and the one quick cure is icewater or cold drink. The cause is unknown. Stress can be a cause, meds even some foods some say. Hope she sees this and tries cold water next time. Good luck to her!

Who calls an ambulance because their 3 year old has had a very minor bump to the head? There would be no ambulances whatsoever if everyone did that. Complete waste of ambulance time.

There are medical transport and taxi tickets that are paid for by the health insurance company. The hospital can issue this to you when you are discharged

Taxi, family member, bus, etc. I know it’s a wild idea if you’re from the US where we have basically no public transport and our cities are not walkable, but it’s set up a lot better over there so you don’t need a personal car to travel

Looks like the people in the UK call an ambulance for absolutely every little thing. No one seems to have a vehicle to go see a doctor or to the emergency room. Weird to me. When I was a child, I fell out of a tree after stepping off a garage roof when a branch broke. Only thing happened was my mom gave me a spanking for climbing the tree.

There are professionals and ambulances for that, why drive yourself instead of calling for help?
