Chassis slap is a good thing you go to stiff and you will break things , having the chassis slap makes the bottom of the truck take the whole force spread across the entire chassis.

I also tried 80wt in my maxx on the search for the perfect setup. It was too stiff for me. I found 60wt all around with the wide maxx springs in the rear and the stock springs in front to be a really awesome setup for me. Wide maxx kit on it as well

Yeah, 80wt was too stiff. I settled on 50wt all the way around with Widemaxx kit and springs.

    I use 50% 50wt + 60wt on the front and 50% 50wt + 80wt on the back. Great combination.

I think the piston rebounds because the volume of the shaft is displacing oil in the cylinder which compresses the air under the rubber dome. It should rebound out by itself if that's the way u built it/want it.
If you install the cap with the shaft fully in, then you have the opposite and create a vacuum when the shaft is pulled out which will want to draw air through the seals into the chamber. I don't think this way is correct.
I think the ideal way to build a no rebound shock is to have the shaft somewhere in the middle when you put the cap on, at the intended ride height.
    I might be wrong though.

Too much of a pain. I just change the TSM settings for off-road or pavement. Thanks for the comment.

@@stingerranger4942 TSM is Traxxas Stability Management. It has nothing to do with speed. It counter steers for you to keep the car in control at high speeds. It’s a very cool function and works great.

@@toeshifter TSM is adjustable to let you optimize
      performance for different driving surfaces.
Out of the box, TSM is set for off-road
performance to help you accelerate hard
and fast in the dirt and expertly powerslide
through the turns. The multi-function knob
on your TQi transmitter should be set to the
      12:00 position for off-road performance.
When you want to experience all the
top speed Maxx has to offer on paved
      surfaces, turn the multi-function knob
counterclockwise to the 9:00 position for
      greatly enhanced high speed on-road
      stability and control.
TSM never limits your throttle input
      or speed.
If you want to experience raw Maxx power
without any help from TSM, turn TSM off by
setting the multi-function knob on the TQi
transmitter to the “0” or off position. This I copy and paste from the manual.
Yeah it good feature I'm new to it and learning yet

From my experience, heavier wt oil is not the way to go, I've tried many methods, and the best method I've found is progressive springs... which increase in resistance the further they compress which helps with bottoming, too high of a weight of oil slows the travel too much and can damage the arms easier since more force is required to compress the shock piston. This is my analysis after spending $300 on different weight oils and setups and resevoir shocks. Progressive springs with stock weight oil is the way to go!

Thanks for the input. 80wt oil was too heavy. I changed it to 50wt oil and found it to be a good balance between landing jumps and body roll in the turns. Thanks for watching.

Which springs did you end up going with? Trying to get mine setup. Mine slaps so hard the pins come out of the steering block.

Do you gave the gt maxx shocks on that? Trying to find progressive springs for those but can't seem to find them!

I just got 80 and 70 wt...should I put 80 in the front or back? And 70 opposite obviously

    • @toeshifter

I felt the 80 was too stiff. I took it out and ended up putting 50 in all 4 corners. Thanks for watching. Have fun out there.

Quick question. Have you made any adjustments to your rear shocks, since the front and rear are all the same lengths? I saw the following video and was curious as to your thoughts, if you don't mind me asking here. Thanks in advance for your time and willingness to reflect. th-cam.com/video/j7iqoc4Xhng/w-d-xo.html

I think the WideMaxx kit puts stiffer springs in the rear. Don’t quote me on that. Otherwise I just adjust the shock by putting more tension on the rear. Great question.

@@toeshifter Oh OK. Just wondering about the length of the shocks being different in the rear would be a notable advantage or not. Thanks for taking a moment to reply. 😎
