    Hey Gary, Canada here. I'm 7 weeks after the right TNR. Do you find after you sit for 20 minutes the knee stiffens the heck up. Hope this isn't a long term thing.

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there Canada. ;) yes. I am now at about 8 weeks again on my 2nd knee replacement. And I can only sit in a regular chair with my legs down, like normal, for a short time. Then I have to put my legs up in a recliner or bed. I went through this with my 1st knee too and it will get better. By the time I got to about 9 or 10 weeks I could go a lot longer sitting. Then it will not bother you at all. But as my doctor keeps reminding me. There will be some swelling and stiffness for a long time because it takes about a year to completely heal. So it sounds like you are right on track. Keep up the good work and if you have any other questions just let me know. I will do the best I can to answer based on my experiences. Take Care.

    I’m 7 weeks post surgery and an doing okay,still some swelling and sore! Flexion and extension both good.

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is great to hear. That swelling will take longer than you think to fully go away. There will be some soreness for quite some time but it seems to get better week after week. now that my first knee replacement is over a year now it is really working great. The second knee replacement is not at a year yet but it is doing good. My only issue which seems to be improving is it still hurts to get on my hands and knees when I am working on stuff in my shop. And I still have some numbness on the sides of my knees but that is better than them hurting.

    What did your consultant say about the noises I have the same every step is a clunk I was told it should improve as swelling subsides and muscles get stronger

      That was what I was told as well about my knees clicking. And it did. I had both mine done in 2022 and now that all the swelling is gone and I have worked on strengthening my legs that continuous clicking is gone. Sometimes if I do things a certain way they may still do that but not enough to notice. My doctor told me it would take a year to be over the surgery and he was right. Keep working those legs even after your done with PT. Walk and use stairs. It all helps.

    I had to laugh when you said my good knee is bad now. I watch you each week to see how things are going for you. I will be in my 8th on June 5th 2023. Now I find my right knee talking to my left knee asking why is your knee is so straight and why mine is not 😂 Thank you for the great video’s. You have helped me tremendously. Happy Memorial Day!

      Thanks, I appreciate that and it made me laugh some too. LoL. I hope and pray you continue to heal well. Now I have both mine replaced and it's getting better and walking normal is such a weird feeling. :)

    I'm at 7 weeks and flex my leg back do Is it nesserary to put heal to butt at this time

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not that I am aware of but it was more up to the physical therapist. I was never close to that and hit my angles of movement. But my legs are too big to get my heel back to my butt anyway. I had a harder time getting to 120and out to zero. At 7 weeks you probably still have swelling to deal with too. At least I did and as the swelling went down over the months the bending got a little better too. Hope that helps a little.

      Thank you. I hope and pray you continue to improve as well. I am at this same point now with my second knee. I had it replaced in Sept. The first was in March. I went walking about a 1/2 mile a few days ago but it started getting tired on me. Let me know how you are doing and thank you for watching. I really appreciate it.

    Hi Gary.....Question.........You said that this is your 2nd TKR. I've heard from people that had both knees done, that 1 was usually worse, with pain than the other. Most people have a dominant leg . Like my dominant leg is my right, the one I had operated. Do you think there is any connection there. Would your less dominant leg give you less pain. Just wondering out loud.

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My dominate leg was my right for most of my life. But I tore up my right knee in a motorcycle wreck in my 20s. Tore the ACL but they never knew it until it was wore out. Fell and smashed in my right hip later on. So my right leg got worse and worse and weaker over the years. Until my left leg was way stronger in my 50s and now 60s. I first got the hip replaced and then the right knee in March of this year. But I wore out my left knee compensating for my right leg and I got my left knee replaced in Sept. To answer your question. I think the strength in my left (stronger) leg helped in some parts of rehab. But I also noticed that before the surgery my right knee was still sore going up and down stairs even 6 months after the replacement. After this surgery I was forced to use my right leg more and it no longer hurts on stairs. I think I just needed to use it more. But for my left leg the healing and rehab process seems to be about the same for me. I think that is mainly because it sustained the same soft tissue trauma from the surgery as the other and that is the main part healing back. But that is just a guess on my part. So for me they seemed about the same. Sorry for rambling on. I hope that helps. Gary

      @roncairney909 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GaryForgingOn Thanks for replying, and you're not rambling at all buddy. Got another question for you. I spent only one day in hospital, and right after my operation, physio got me to walk from the doorway of my room to my bed, with the help of a walker. As I did, one of the physio guys mentioned that the TKR is a more painful recovery than a hip replacement operation. Since you've got your hip done also, what say you.

    I’m on my eighth week. I can do a lot of the chores etc but I Look about it over dinner… It is now really painful to pull on and off my sock or get into a shoe. I was at a place a week or so ago where my knee was stiff and trying to do that. Now it’s actually painful so I’m going back to the shoehorn etc. Hopefully this is just my body trying to adjust to not an injury.

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It probably is. I remember a lot of adjusting and it hurt for months squatting and bending my knees. The doctor told me it would be a year and he was right. You may be hurting more as the swelling goes down too. Even after several months I thought why did I do this my knees still hurt but they continued to improve and get better especially as I worked them and strengthened the muscles around them. I hope and pray you get feeling better soon. You may want to ask your doctor next time you see him too.

    After my total right knee replacement seven weeks ago, I have to wonder if I can ever go through that again. My left knee's arthritis is a killer! Hopefully, I will feel better in the long run! I still use a cane for distance. TY for sharing!

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I thought the same thing. But now that it has been over a year for both I can say I am really glad I did it. There is a light. Just remember to work them knees hard even after PT is over. I hope to edit a video this week I filmed over the weekend at some falls at a state park going down and back up. I will tag it in these playlists. It was tiring but great. Way better than bone on bone.

    Sorry for your loss. God bless you!

      Thank you very much. I am so glad my videos helped you some. That was why I wanted to make them. I watched others before my surgeries and thought I would just document my journey in hopes it helped someone too. 8 weeks is great. This video was from my first knee replacement and I just had my second knee replaced 3 weeks ago. I hope and pray all is going well for you and progressing well. It will be sore off and on for months. For some reason my first knee would ache above and below the joint when driving. But I could put it on cruise control and go for hours. Even after 6 months. I told my doctor that and he said it will remain a little sore for a year or more while it is still healing. I hope and pray you continue to improve. Thank you Gary

    Evening. Tomorrow I'm at 8 weeks full knee replacement done by robotics I'm at 100° bend still painful and swollen not to mention a blood clot I still ice few times a day I go for 2 walks a day about a mile
    Therapy 3 time a week any advice you can give

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The main advice I can give is to not compare your progress with mine or others. You will get there. Seems like everyone I talk to recovers at different rates. Sounds like you are getting there. Walking helps but stretching will do a lot. Try to do those exercises and stretches daily. 8 weeks is good but it will take months for the swelling to go down and to get stronger. My doctor kept telling me it will take a year to full heal and it did. My knee replacement would still hurt on stairs and when I did longer walks but after a year I could tell it hurt a lot less. Plus this was my first knee replacement that I had in March 2022. I had my other knee replaced in Sept 2022 and it is still sore when I go up and down stairs but my first knee is doing great. So don't rush the recovery and do what the therapist say and keep up those stretches at home and you will heal up great over time. If you have any questions please ask. I hope and pray you continue to heal well and get all the movement back.
      Gary
