You're the first doctor I've seen that actually has a clue what it's like to try to quit smoking and doesn't just annoy me so much that I want a smoke. LOL
I never knew that about the mind. But I've often said, "I'm not eating because I'm hungry, I'm eating because I'm bored". I work from home a lot and it will be easy to have a cup of tea or some San Pellegrino. I don't have a problem when I'm out on the road. I love to drive and drink coffee. Thanks Doc!
I'm a black coffee drinker, so great to hear I can use this as a bridge. While I am not on Keto diet, I have quit eating between meals and lost 10 pounds in the last 2 months. I had developed a bad habit of snacking all day. A few cookies here and there, piece of candy, flavored cream in my coffee, and chips, pretzels, or crackers while fixing dinner. And then I'd eat larger than normal meals. Carbs were my downfall. I never had a weight problem, but I put on a few pounds in the last couple of years. When I retired, I guess I felt I should be able to eat whatever I want. It was one long bridge I was on all day!
Cleaned out my pantry and filled my freezer with venison, beef ,chicken and fish. I don’t have cans bags or packaged highly processed food stuffs. Once I got through the first three months of low carb the desire to snack diminished. Satiety is key plus stress reduction and awareness. Being outside or exercise is my stress reliever. Today plowing snow with my tractor is a stress reliever. Retirement has been a godsend for my mental health and physical well being journey.
I absolutely needed this video as I have been stalled out on my low carb diet for a couple of months sue to depression over finances. I have been snacking on cheese, meat sticks, pepperoni, and avocados after dinner. The psychological aspect of carb addiction is very real and a constant struggle. Your videos are a morale boost that help by planting seeds in my head to resist the urges that are harmful to my weight loss. I am down from 365 to 310, but need to get back on track and get the train rolling again. Thanks for being there Dr., I sincerely mean that.
Thank you, Dr Cywes. I realize a lot of my urge to look for a snack is because I am: 1- bored 2- in the kitchen most of the day as it is a central room in the house and that’s where food is 3- tired and weak emotionally 4- with someone else in the house who is snacking and I join them. 5- thirsty. I do find that a cup of cold water with redmonds salt helps take cravings away. I usually end up beating myself up and start the cycle again tomorrow. Thank you for your encouragement. I will ask God’s help to tackle the emotions/boredom/thirst in healthier ways.
I swapped for other sins until I realised nothing on the outside is going to satisfy me for long and will eventually lead to destruction. I then turned inwards and found a spiritual solution that lasts forever with no downsides
Ask the King of the Kingdom to come into your heart and forgive you for all offenses you have ever done against the King by omission or commission. Then ask Him to be your Shepherd and friend. He is Spirit, you will perceive Him in your life and innermost man by your spirit thru your soul.❤ He connects with your spirit then the understanding rises up into your soul (emotions, intellect, imagination, will). Speak to Him like your secret friend. Like the wind, you can't see it but you can feel it and see it's effects like in blowing the leaves. So too with Jesus, King of Kings!
Gene from Michigan. Doc, I’m sure you had a good day! I’ve been low carb for 8 months and lost around 20lbs. BMI at 26. The low carb diet has helped tremendously with cravings for snacks. At this stage in my life (71) eating a desert now and then is part of enjoying life. I think I have the discipline to stay the course with this low carb lifestyle.
To reset my mind, I try to make a list of small things to do. So, when I am behind the computer too long, I go for a walk, do some cleaning, or whatever. I just have a look at my list and do that whenever I feel like snacking and take my mind of it. I also drink a lot of tea.
It's very hard to stay away from snacking during the holidays. The rest of the year I'm doing just fine. Nothing could tempt me from falling off the wagon. The torturous time begins with Hallooween for me. By Thanksgiving I'm crawling up to the walls for just a piece of chocolate. I must confess that I ALWAYS fall off the wagon during Christmas time. I love to bake and my family and friends are eagerly waiting for it. So, when my wedding anniversary comes around just a week before Christmas, I'm no longer able to withstand the onslaught of sweet treats around me. Hence, the last 2 weeks of the year I'm just a slave to my chocolate addiction. Then, from January 2nd I'm being a good girl again until Valentine's Day when I'm gladly accepting a nice small box of chocolate from my loving hubby which is my final blunder until the next holiday season rolls around. It's a battle that I'm facing once again and I'm not sure if any amount of tee will be enough to get my brain to snap out of it, but once again I will try my best.
Thank you so much for your comment. You remind me that maybe it’s no bad thing that I get painfully sick 🤮 if I attempt even one chocolate bonbon thingy. 🙏 ❤❤❤
I have been eating low carb for 4 years. I, too have had problems with holidays. I do struggle with carb addiction. I do better if I make a keto dessert to help me not feel deprived. I know it keeps my sweet cravings going but I don't totally fall off for a week or so. I add low carb muffins when everyone is eating hot rolls at Christmas. There is delicious low carb fudge you can make for a little treat on Christmas. Food has always been the way I celebrated or distressed. I now like meat and veggies.....but need a little treat at the holidays.i try to live by 50 carbs on chest days as my limit. On a major day like Christmas I go for 100 carbs. I have done my blood work after the season and it is still excellent. I am not a coffee, tea or crystal lite drinker....so I have something else non carb...... sometimes. Hope this helps .Low carb lifestyle is worth it!
Ha, you're just like me. I go no problem all day on coffee w/cream, but as soon as I decide to eat, mostly carnivore, all the bad cravings will start kicking in. I go to bed early, often.
The bridge idea of coffee or tea makes alot of sense! The only caveat that I would have is that it would be better for these to be organic. My understanding is that tea and coffee are heavily sprayed with pesticides. I don’t really want to be consuming that if possible.😊

I have been able to get my snacking under control. What I am reaching out about is my energy.. or lack there of. I hear everyone talking about how much energy they have, but the energy I had in 2019 to 2021 was so much more than 2022 to 2023. I have been working on optimizing my sex hormones and my sleep is better but not my energy. I am a 59 year old woman.
I've recently discovered your channel and I love your videos! Everything you say makes so much sense. ❤ I used to be a constant snacker if sweets. My "bridge" drink is soda water now. I have my own soda maker and I use filtered water. I love it. 🥰
Wow, that stuff is pricey!! If I drank that several times a day, I definitely would not have money to buy snacks, probably have to give dinner a miss too. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love his authenticity and transparency . I do lemon ginger hot tea with organic stevia as a bridge . I didn’t know it was a bridge until today but yea, I get through those dinner time “pulls” with a decaf hot tea. One thing I did as a “dessert “ was put my orange flavored Ketone drink ( Elevate brand) in my lemon ginger hot tea , oh my word , it was a delicious creamy tasting hot beverage . I don’t do that too often as I want to preserve it as a dessert. But i have been keto for a year and a half and still I find moments where I am tempted to eat sugar or carbs but I have learned to substitute . I like my strict time restricted eating window 18:6 so this helps stay in that eating window. I try not to to get out of the window bc I have learned that part of the fasting time is not accounting for the period of digestion your body needs to clear off the glucose , even on keto .
I do pretty good on low carb 2 meals a day but get into trouble with midnight snacking. I'm not even hungry when I snack but when I'm under stress or have overwhelming problems, I go straight to the kitchen to snack. The snack can be anything; piece of cheese, chips, small sandwich, cereal, nuts, etc . . . , you name it. The following morning I feel so bad for messing up my intermittent fasting 😔. I know I'm playing Russian roulette because I been diagnosed with early on set diabetes, no meds yet. My Dr said to do low carb IF and it goes well; I manage to bring my A1C down to pre-diabetes number. However, the snacking will do me in because at 237 lbs and 71 years old, I don't have much time. 😔

Time to build a new bridge, because eventually I would like to be free from caffeine. I'm back on the coffee for now, but nowhere near my prior levels - I would probably go through 8-10 pods a day (12oz cups, according to my keurig), morning, afternoon, evening... Now trying to be at no more than 2 pods per day, plus sparkling water. (Bubli, etc)

It's actually not good to brush that often. You'll be more likely to have receding gums.
