MY rear handle broke in the same way. I decided to repair it with hot staples because I didn't want to have one new handle nor did I want to replace them all due to cost. Thankfully 2 hot staples in opposing directions worked great!
Huge help, thanks sir! My 2012 rear handles were smoked from UV damage due to being outside all of the time and this video made the replacement really easy.
Kudo's to you for giving it a go. I hope you didn't lock yourself out like I did. Those cables and plastic stays are tricky, but if you know, it makes it much easier. The part is cheap, the labor is insane.
I've read on Club Lexus it can be sanded, primered and painted black, I suppose chrome painted or chrome wrapped using self adhesive wrap from amazon. Most of the pieces are glued with a strong epoxy. It's a common problem on older Lexus and 4 runners with these handles. I can't find the pieces for sale.
Oh, thank you! I've taken a lot of doors apart on different cars and this is the first time the lock motor got messed up. I'm disappointed such a expensive truck has a bad lock actuator design, be careful when you try. Good Luck.
@Squishey, I like this video, and thanks for your sense of humor!
Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Heating staples is a great idea. I'm going to use it. I use mesh for plastic welding.

I’m glad. It was horrible when I couldn’t open the door. I hope it spared you the headaches
Glad someone made this video! Gonna tackle this later next week…I too have the special ability to turn a two hour job into a four hour job 😂
Lol. Good luck. It’s a pain
You did it and this will help a lot of folks
Thanks, it was a more tricky then I thought it would be.
Thank you so much sir. What a helpful video. Work was so easy because of your video 📷 sir. Appreciate it sir

Has anyone replaced just the chrome insert on the handle? Does it slide out or is it glued?
I am definitely eager to know the answer to this question.

@@Squisheyy It can definitely be painted, but most are painting body color to get rid of the chrome
Wow, never knew you were so good at fixing/repairing/improving stuff! We gotta get the Eurovan going on, my friend!
Yes we do, Another project to add. I look forward to doing the gate.
Thank you sir.. I hope more new video
You're welcome. Hope it helped
Awesome video. Doing this myself shortly. Wish me luck!
Thanks for the compliment. Good luck. I hope sharing my pitfalls helps you avoid them.
I have same exact issue!!!
It seems like Toyota would do a better job with these parts. I have a 98 4 runner and the handle is all metal.
Your 4 hour drive was like 2 week job for me. At least now I cam do it with my eyes closed lol
Lol, It is a heck of a job, it should be so much easier. I still can't do it with my eyes close.
Do you have a link to the replacement part?
try here parts.longolexus.com/oem-parts/lexus-handle-door-outside-6921160090c0.
@ 1:10 how did you put that back? Mine somehow popped out and I can’t figure out how to fix it
The black plastic piece inside the door? It's held on with torque screws.
Door Panel Gotcha's

@@Squisheyy oh, I mean your video is good, those complicated work makes me crazy, lol, now I gotta be extremely careful to pull the handles.

@@Squisheyy yeah, will definitely be careful on that
Is handle comes painted from the dealer?
I ordered the chrome and it came painted.
That is a lot of work 😢 dealer wants 80$
Only $80? I'd take him up on it. Mine wanted $360. I figured, how hard can it be? Pretty difficult it turns out.
