This is the best video of them all. I've had a broken handle for 2 years because all the other videos looked way to complicated. Today I found your video and less than 20 minutes I had it done. You are the best.
Dude what a lifesaver! I tried and failed this repair 2 years ago, and finally got up the courage to have another go - and found this video, and succeeded this time! Thanks, finally I’m not the loser with the missing door handle on my block 🙂
Even including the time spent rummaging around in the tool chest in the basement trying to find something long and narrow enough for the torx bit for that internal screw (screwdriver was too fat, managed to find a long hex key that did the trick) I was able to knock this out in half an hour. Your brevity and clarity is deeply appreciated, and our Matrix (same cosmic blue as yours!) will live a while longer!
What an excellent video! I am about to install two rear door handles to my friend's 2006 Toyota Matrix and without your video, I'm sure I would have been befuddled. Thanks for helping so many people out with your knowledge and video production skills.
This was the best one for the rear door handle due to the part with the fingers inside going on to the little metal part. Thank you!!! A huge time and money saver and I didn't break anything thanks to this video. Very nicely done!!
Suggest you remove the silver 10mm bolt that secures the window track, located below the door latch and move the guide inboard. This will make it easier to remove the door latching mechanism. Also. when you are trying to place the red fork over the silver lever, wear a glove. Makes it easier to push down that lever and slide the red fork into place.
Thanks for this video, it is the best one of the several that I watched. It looks like I will be able to get the inside door panel off with the door closed as the inside latch wont work and the outside is broken. I think that when the handle got hit and shattered the inside latch was moved. Thanks again, Brian
i ordered the hex for the doors first i fixed the front that was super easy , then waited for it to cool down in temp from the outside heat and gave it a try on the back door expected it to be much harder it was since i had to remove the door panel and the fork lock seemed to be the hardest but thanks for your video all good
Thanks for the video, I'm going to be doing this in just a little bit. Unfortunate that it is a bit more complicated than the front door, but I'll get it.
Thanks. Gotta replace LR handle on my 2006 Matrix. This is actually the first piece of plastic to ever break on this car with almost 208k miles. Also, I occasionally spray some silicone lube into handle mechanisms to keep them operating smoothly.
the tork bolt remover is not q 27 its the 30 just did the front door on sunday and will doing back door next week , but thanks for video it will surely help out .
Fyi the torque called for the door handle cover screw is 35 in lbs. The 3 lock assembly screws call for 44 in lb of toruqe and adhesive Three Bond 1234 or equivalent, you can use loctite blue 243 which is the oil resistant version. This is all from the offical Toyota Matrix service manual.
The mechanism the red thing is on, mine is blue, how can you replace it? The door is welded shut. My kids pulled the outside door handle with such force it broke the top connection to the blue thing. I can't open the door from the outside anymore. It CAN open from the inside still... but if there's an emergency where I need to just open the door, without having to open the front & reach back to open the back...
I don't think I am going to be able to be much help. I would have to tear the door apart to be able to answer the question, and I don't have access to it right now. Just curious, though, what do you mean "the door is welded shut"?
Hey man! Your video helped me out a ton but during the process I accidentally broke the red fork that helps the door open from the outside. How is that piece called? Can I replace it easily? Thanks a lot
Glad the video helped. Sorry you ran into a problem. I am not sure of the technical name for the part, and without ripping the door apart, I am not sure what would be invilved in replacing it.
You should still be able to open it with the inside handle. The inside handle goes directly to the latch. It doesn't use the red fork that the outside handle does.
Magic. IIRC, the camer cut off while I was in the middle of that take. When I reset everything to reshoot it, I forgot to reconnect the wires, so when I went to edit the video, I didn't have anything thing that showed me disconnecting the wires, but it seemed pretty simple and obvious, so I did not do it all over again.
You may not have lined up the latch with the fork when you reinstalled the latch. I would start there. Reach in and just pull the lever down and when it comes back up it should catch the fork.
@@TheFixitShed I have no problem with that. When I inser the handle it moves freely and does not activate the opening of the lock. Am I missing a step?
Watch the video at the 5:00 mark. Is that white/silver lever inside the red fork on yours? If it isn't, the handle will still move freely and not open the latch. If it is not inside the fork, just manually move the white/silver lever down and when it comes back up it should be in the fork. If it is in the fork, close the door and move the lever down manually and see in the door latch releases. if it does not, there is a problem with the latch. If the latch releases, there is a problem with the engagement between the handle/fork/lever.
You may not have the silver tab in the red fork inside the door. There is a spot in the video where I show the inside, and you can see the two parts that need to go together
Good afternoon, I have a problem with a door for a Toyota Matrix 2008. I wanted to change the handle of the rear door for reasons of time. I didn't have time to change it. Disassemble everything and put everything back, but I forgot to put the red safety rail and put it aside by mistake. activate the child lock of the door now the door does not open from the inside or from the outside how can I open it?
Ouch. I don't have mine here to look at for reference (my son has it at school), but you have to get the door panel off. It is not going to be easy with the door closed. Or if there is a way you can slide something in the door jamb to switch off the child lock. Thats not going to be easy, either.
Video is incomplete. When putting in the new handle, it must catch the latch to be operable. This doesn’t always happen. I had to reach in and pull the latch down to hook up to the handle.
I must have the wrong door handles because mine won’t go in… did it say on the little bags the part number? I really don’t get it. In your video you first put the front part of the door handle in then the rear part. If I do that, the rear part won’t reach.
I no longer have the bag that the handle came in, but when I look up the listing, the rear door handle I ordered for my 2006 Toyota Matrix says 69211-02130
Because the camera didn't record it. I figured it was a simple and straight forward enough task that people would be able to figure it out, so I didn't take the door apart to reshoot it. Maybe I was wrong.

I agree. It is an excellent how to.

Huge thanks for the guide, It helped me figure out how to put on the handle without too much of a fuss.
Thanks, I am glad the vieo was helpful.
thank you so much for this awesome video, replaced the handle in 20 minutes, followed you step by step

Used your method just today! Was able to repair the door handle in about 20 minutes! Thanks for the video.
Nice work! Glad the video helped!

It is more complicated but definitely manageable. good luck!
Sir you are the best ,clear great inside door videos and no nonsense. Much thanks.
Thank you! I am glad you liked it.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the SUPER! Glad you liked the video.
Excellent tutorial! Even I was able to replace the door handle relatively easy. Thanks.
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the video. It was perfect. My bolts were T30's not T27's. That was the only difference. 2006 Toyota Matrix
Thanks!
This made everything so much easier. Swapped my broken handle in 20 mins!
Glad it helped!
thanks for the video. I hope we can pull it off because the dealership wanted to charge me $325 in labor to do it. OUCH
OMG! That is insane. You got this.
thanks. It worked!!
That's awesome!
I did this about 4 years ago. Broke again. Had to come back for a refresher course.
I do that all the time

Thanks for the video. I fixed my 2007 Toyota Matrix handle in 20 minutes!
Glad it helped
@1:46 my 2003 these three screws are t30 torx
Excellent video, saved me a bunch of money, thank you! (Fortunately, I had a Torx 27 too!)
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Thank you so much you helped me do it myself
Glad I could help! Congrats on your success!

@@TheFixitShed Sure. Hope it's helpful for everyone! Btw I had a typo it should have said in lbs not ft lbs. I corrected my typo. Big difference!
Man that was easy thanks to your video. Thanks Bro
I am glad the video helped!
Worked great, thanks for the help!
Glad it helped!
Where'd you get the new handle?

@@TheFixitShed thanks anyways. I will head to junkyard and see if they have that red fork
Good thorough video, thanks!

I closed the door while it wasn’t latched properly. Now the door is stuck closed. Is there any way to bypass that and get the door open?

would be nice if they made it as easy as the front door....front door is the easiet job ive have done on my 2003 camry
Yes, it would
You didn't tell us about >repairing< the plastic curtain that you cut.
Packing tape works well.
You don’t have to cut the plastic; just pull it away from the top.
This is an absolute nightmare!
did you get it straightened out?

When removing the latch your wires "magically" disappear. Why skip the part showing how to safely remove them? Smh

Thank you for teaching me this
My pleasure 😊
