Catching Catfish In EXTREME Shallow Water (Crazy Action)

- Lots of anglers thing they need to fish in deep water to catch fish, especially catfish and that could not be further from the truth. This week I head out for some EPIC shallow water blue catfish action and I catch TONS of catfish fishing in inches of water. You can't get any more shallow than this and it's one of my favorite patterns to fish for blue catfish.
If you like to catch blue catfish shallow water is an area you should explore whether you're fishing for monster trophy class fish or numbers of fish there are many times of the year that you can load the boat with some epic catfishing action.

Good video, I'm stuck overseas on an extended vacation, should have been back in Texas 2 months ago. We used to catch cats in water 6-12 inches deep on the Brazos at night. Just below the shoals in running water.

Great job . I have learned a lot with your videos since I joined Catfish Edge. Came to Texas from Alabama over there catfishing is a whole different ball game. Was having a hard time catching channel cats until I saw your video, now I am teaching people bow to do it. Thanks a lot tight lines.

I caught my first Flathead ever a few hours ago and a big blue on the Brazos River in Waco!!! Used the triple threat hooks. Love those hooks

I have noodles Flatheads from feeder creeks on Texoma in less that a foot of water. But never fished that shallow with a rod and reel. Thanks for the tips.

Are the poles your using in this video medium action? I have 3 of your medium heavys, just got 1 medium and havnt got a chance to use it yet water temp is like 34 degrees in Wisconsin yet. I've caught fish at night in less than a foot of water, I typically won't try I spot if it's under 3' but this video's got me thinking now.

Do a lot of shallow water fishing during the shad spawn up against bulkheads you can load the boat quick with some nice fish

Any advice for "Bank Only" catfishing? Im not allowed to ride in a boat "can't ris jarring my back like when the waves are high from wind are other boats making waves "and can't walk to far.Going to try to find a place to chum on a regular bases
You can catch fish just like this from the bank. Most people are throwing right over them.
I caught about a 12 lb channel catfish in about a foot and a half, on the edge of a pond.

Yeah fish know when you're doing something thats when they know to bite lol. I've been having trouble lately with all the crazy conditions going on haven't been able to stack em just channel cat here channel cat there and skunked a few times.

@@Catfishedge Yeah I just pulled another zero ☹ this morning. Rain has flooded lake so much half dock was underwater and water temp dropped back into low 50s, conditions in NC have been crazy one day water is in 70s next day 50s.

I know circle hooks basically hook the fish for you but god damn, seeing you not set the hook when they are on just to be sure really messes with me! XD

Just feeding. Has nothing to do with spawn.
I fish in a creek that runs into the Tennessee river but I don't fish near the river I go about 3 miles up into the creek and where I fish is 3 to 4 foot deep and I suspend my baits under a float and can load down my live well in about an hour with blue and channel and I've never seen anyone else there

What's the biggest blue that you have pulled out of there Chad? Every time you catch one fish after another. You got experience and knowledge that is hard to beat. And it's got to be cool to have your own rod with your name on it. They're great rods to I've had mine for awhile and it's going strong still. I do allot of this style of fishing but with only channel cats and I really love the bnm silver cat rods for it. Can only throw 1 to 3 oz safely. But it's plenty for channel cats in lakes and ponds.

@@Catfishedge that's a good fish right there. I loved Texas but i got stuck at Fort bliss in el paso for a long time. Some catfish in the Rio Grande but I had to travel to new Mexico to get into some descent fish without having to go away far

Catfish edge I was just wondering because I’ve been catching a lot fish this way in past month or so, but the bites slowed down and my water temps are around 83 84, im on lake Tawakini, in East Texas, and I’m wondering if the fish are moving back to deeper water, thanks for the reply and all the great content you provide!
What made you fish that spot? How did you find the fish? Show us how to find them with your electronics.
I didn’t use my electronics. Good old fashioned gut instinct.

I dont do a lot of catfishing but what happened yesterday to me got me googling catfishing.... anyways, yesterday I was bass fishing at Lake Gladewater Texas and I had caught 4 or 5 pretty decent ones along the edge of a big batch of lilly pads. All of a sudden I locked onto a whopper and that sucker was giving me a pretty good fight. I finally got him up close to the boat and it was Channel Catfish !! I weighed him at a bit over 9 pounds. Now tell me what the heck is a channel cat doing biting on my chartreuse color spinner bait? And I had never caught a catfish on a spinner bait either. I was a bit of a surprise.
Catfish are a oredator fish, They'll chase bait and eat it, That includes lures.

Great Video! Thank you. What do you do with left-over threadfins? Looks like you put them in a ziplock bag on ice after netting them. Are they still good if refrigerated or left on ice to fish with for a few more day?

Coming from Kayak Catfish, these are just dinks. But it's always nice to be out catching cats.
Being a guide I have to catch fish of all sizes. There’s a huge percentage of people that don’t care anything about big fish.
