"Germany's Most Dangerous Jail" They literally live in luxury compared to U.S prisoners. Dangerous jail in Germany must mean a prisoner gave another prisoner a mean look.
There are the same "evil" people in this prison as in US prisons, murderers, rapists and so on. Germany just doesnt take away their human rights and does not treat them like animals and germany does focus alot more on rehabilitation and making them "non-criminals" once they get out. USA is just focused on harsh outdated punishment basically. What difference does it make? Alot less violence and a much safer space compared to other countries. But dont be mistaken. When they dont behave well while inside prison, all the "luxury" is taken until they behave.
nah germany like other european countries norway etc care a lot abt their human rights. they will not let them live in filth and they get to watch tv listen to music read books write etc bc our countries just believe that no one deserves to live the way prisoners do in some jails in the US.. the inmates in europe behave better and norway is also known for supporting ppl in jail for minor drug offenses etc to help them move back into life by preparing them for work etc. they make it possible for ppl in poverty and in jail to get back up on their feet and they have nice “cells” more like rooms w a normal bad a place to sit and a tv etc and it just looks sm better than the prisons in the US. no wonder american inmates r more likely to reoffend if they aren’t given proper care
@@salatwurzel-4388 Meh look at the inmates in this prison. They are all geriatric which is not surprising considering that the majority of Europe's population are old people. You couldn't do this type of system in America, Russia or Latin America. Those countries have really scary hard core gang members and super aggressive unpredictable criminals. And the criminals in those systems are actually made up of mostly younger men.
@@Taffer-bx7uc You have basically the same privileges in EVERY german prison (and behave good), hardcore cases like terrorism and forbidden right wing groups aside. (turkish clans in berlin for example, kinda like the "italian mafia" stereotype in new york). There are alot of indications that all the brutality and "3rd world feeling" in the US prisons is mostly the goverments fault, because your "style" of rehabilitation and the way you are trying to reintigrate criminals into society is one of the most inefficient and cruel ways to do it, compared to other western nations.

It’s amazing how culture plays so much into society. In a maximum security prison in Germany the prisoners live like kings because they have a level of civility and respect. In the US, the vast majority of prisoners can’t be trusted with a cup of water.

Also, the 3 strikes policy is not universal in the US, it varies state to state but most of them only count it as a "strike" for very serious offenses such as kidnapping or rape, you're not getting struck out for drugs in most cases. I can't believe how docile and calm the prisons are in Germany. I've seen people being attacked while visiting incarcerated family members as a kid here in the US.
I went to jail for 4 months in Florida. If you get sick you don’t get seen by medical for about a week. Dental problems takes about a month. The guards treat you more or less like a caged dog; Indifferent to everything except that you’re in the cage. We were allowed to go to a concrete room open to the outside by a big iron fence for fresh air once a week. They would do group punishments (shutting off the TV, lockdown, withholding all commissary, etc) for things like if someone wasn’t wearing their clothes properly, sitting on a table, exercising, playing with a ball made out of a shirt. Officers constantly threatened us with DRs which are disciplinary reports that could extend our stay in jail. They looked the other way when there was fights, thefts, harassment, threats, etc. Their random searches involve throwing everything you own on the floor and pushing it around with their shoes. The mats we slept on were about 2” thick with no weight on them and those were on steel trays bolted to the wall. We all had sheets and only some of us had blankets; pillows aren’t allowed. We couldn’t have anything on the walls. It costs our loved ones .50¢ a minute to talk on the phone and about 30$ to do a video call. In person visitations aren’t allowed. I worked in the kitchen and was accused of stealing food and even though they couldn’t prove i did, I was kicked out of the work program and lost its benefits, because I was in the area where they noticed food was missing. If you’re on medication and you don’t hear the call, you’re SOL. If you’re on medication and the nurse misses your block, forgets about your block, or just doesn’t show up for their shift, you’re SOL. If you’re showing signs of hurting yourself or talk about hurting/killing yourself, they take away all of your personal items, strip you naked and give you a “turtle suit” (like a green mover’s blanket with holes for your arms and legs) and they put you in a smaller cell with nothing but a toilet and usually one other person for 72 hours after which you then get to talk to a “psychologist” who pretty much just tells you to not hurt yourself or you’re going back into that small cell. TL;DR Florida has shitty jails.

I would much rather serve a Prison sentence in Germany than the USA. The German Prison sees the prisoners as people first and the are treated accordingly. The American Prisons seem brutal in comparison.
No guard walking freely among prisoners anywhere, in any country that I'm aware of wears a weapon, would be way too easy for inmates to overpower the guard and take the weapon, just the guards up in the towers etc..watching the prisoners have rifles and shotguns..
It depends on the inmate I think and also the time. In the us you got people they know they never will leave prison, doesn't matter what they do or time. In Germany a life sentence is 15 years.
A sex offender being honest about the fact that he isn't ready to leave prison yet because he knows he will still live a pretty good life in prison is real rehabilitation
these prisoners live better than I do. Cooked food, washed clothes and paid to study. Never heard of prisoners having a key to their cell and being free to walk around or take lunch break from work until now. Library, free health care and they still complain. Ended up here after watching Russia's toughest prison, no term of comparison.

I've lived in Germany for 10 years now seeing this documentary as a civilian you're not surprised much this is right, this is very human the way they treat and handle the inmates is almost next to perfection although the inmates have crossed the lines, and defined the established laws. But this is Germthey've come a long way in history this country is an example and must be an example for every country to learn from I'm impressed by the manner in which human life is now being handled in Germany both in prisons and outside I'm amazed how everything is put in place it's beyond my comprehension how this beautiful country is doing things. This makes me want to move to Germany and commit a crime. Can you imagine? Free studio apartment for life, free food all day, TV, belongings, no one bothering you except a nice guard that says good morning and good night. Some people strive for this.
Why would you do that? Germany is NOTHING like the US, it’s clean, safe, they have an incredibly high standard of living. The USA is now about 30% very wealthy and 70% Third World living conditions. 15 mile line ups down the interstate for food bank hampers?

True, it looks like they are enjoying themselves. Some inmates choose to stay in prison rather than get release because they feel like it is their second home.
THIS IS THE KEY IN INPRISONMENT. Turn a criminal into a part of the society again. We are all the same, with the same rights. Well, in germany at least ;)
The mannerisms between guards and prisoners are astounding. I’m in a wheelchair and several times people won’t even get the door for me let alone say hello.
This has absolutely nothing to do with mannerism, or with what you see in this video. People will open the door for you to be nice, or because they think you cannot do it yourself (whether they are right or not). She opens every door because she HAS to. They don't let prisoners do that.

For all those in the comments pointing out the good prison conditions, that's the EU. Nations can be judged by how they treat their prisoners and animals. What's the point locking people up only to release them in 15-20 years and leave them more crazy, and full of hate for the system and for the universe, they will just commit more crimes. Treat them civil and with humility and they might see the error of their ways and improve and be productive afterwards. There is a reason the USA has almost 10x the prison population than Germany and the highest number of prisoners in the world, because there it's a business. In the USA $$ > human welfare. At least in the EU we have a balance between money and human welfare.

I wonder what the staff there is going to do when they start making weapons out of all the stuff they have in their cells and attacking staff and other prisoners. The prisons you see in US documentaries are the worst of the worst. The prisoners there will always find something to fight about. "You disrespected me" "you did not pay back the food.... drugs......money........favors I gave you". Violent gang members who are sworn to revenge, and protecting each other. Racially motivated events. Attacks for breaking the "codes" or rules that the prisoners have made for themselves. There is a reason why those prisoners are in those max security places. They are violent, vicious, evil people that have made that life for themselves. Many of them are worse than animals, an animal does not kill and destroy just to be evil........they do. Those kind of prisoners are treated the only way you can safely handle them. Actually they are lucky, in many prisons all over the world they would be beaten to a bloody pulp or killed by staff or other inmates.

He won't get out, he can't hurt anyone anymore so why on earth shouldn't he live in normal humane conditions? Otherwise a tied rope would be more humane than the stuff you see going on in documentaries about punitive prison systems like in the USA. If you seek revenge you will never be satisfied as it doesn't bring you back anything but still in that case you should be pleading for execution rather than creating new victims within an inhumane incarceration environment. after all there are also people locked up within the same facility of the person that has proven to be capable of the unthinkable if pushed, or are all criminals regardless of their offense and circumstances irredeemable? In that case you don't need a prison at all but a wall, firing squad and incinerator.

This is joke of prison, treated like kings I feel like they finish high school then go 5-10 years in this hotel for free to earn some money and get out and live like normal human
@@jasam6483 You have a hard time finding a job as ex-prisoner. Also: Prison is made for taking your freedom, not your rights. You still have to right to be treated like a human, not some animal. This method of inprisonment is also way better for society. Look at shitholes like the US or Thailand and you'll see why people keep being criminals.
@@jasam6483 Prison in Germany is no fun - yes, the inmates are treated in a civilized way since they are human beings, but this is still a prison, you are not free to go anywhere or enjoy your life. And also you are not able to make any real money in there, those few bucks they might be able to save would keep them alive outside after their release for a very short time only. And also you want to keep the inmates mentally stable as much as possible and not have them becoming crazy weirdos, because one day many of them will be released and you want them to be able to integrate again, or at least not commit crimes again.
I think a lot of people forget that prison is supposed to be about rehabilitation and releasing people back into society afterwards. If they come out with bad mental health, no life skills, no education etc then its no surprise if they reoffend.
That’s a nice prison, it even has plants in the corridors. Those one man cells look like small studio apartment, if those guys saw the U.S prisons they would be very appreciative of what they have.
This is so interesting. i enjoy learning how each country runs their facilities and the rate of return on prisoners . This prison appears very nice , organized well .
basically the same, just "worse", because only those who stay for LONG get the chance to equip their cell with stuff... if you just in for a year or something, you have to live in the concrete box! ... but they might have tojust be in cells at night & can spend their days outside!.... basically like living with parents again under curfew & some restrictions like "no drinking" and such, but they can spend their days outside "free"!
This prison is the best l have seen, the inmates are treated so well unlike here in the United States where they are treated like animals, Great job Germany 🇩🇪
Yes, but I am sure you were able to leave that hostel room at any time you wanted to. Spending a huge part of your life in such a small cell, is a completely different thing. And also you want to keep the people inside the prisons mentally as stable as possible, so therefore you need to give them some tools that help them to distract themselves and focus on other things.
@@making_smart_fun Word. I actually spend a few nights in a hostel where there were 8 bunk beds in one room, and just enough space in between to walk through. Being in there with 7 other people would have driven me nuts within twenty-four hours, but as a place to sleep, maybe journal, and then get out and spend a day exploring a city? Worlds of difference.
The guy (Peter) literally said that all this comfort in his cell is custom made I:e he made it himself by working hard for it. He said there are other cells with just empty walls and bed. So all those who've commenting about the luxury inside, it is for people who earned special privileges by working there
People really think it’s wrong how "nice" it is for the prisoners? Being locked in is the penalty the Court decided them to serve, not being treated as an animal
Very interesting comparing prisons around the world. I just finished watching a documentary about a prison in Madagascar. Seems like the total opposite of this one. I think a society's prisons tell a lot about the society as a whole.
Interesting how people are suprised about their cells. Prison isn't only about "you have done something bad now suffer". It's also about rehabilitation.
people do not seem to grasp the removal of liberty and agency as punishment while throwing a temper tantrum when during a pandemic the state enforces some easy to follow lockdown procedures for a while.
@@mangalores-x_x I don't know how you get from prison to the pandemic but if a whole year not being able to work is "a while" to you the you are not in the position to judge about a person's "temper tantrum". Let's see how straight you stand when you lose your company, job and money.
I see people saying rehabilitation often but what exactly is that rehabilitation? They know if they get caught with their crimes they will end up in basically hotel
@@robinwood1963 I defenitely agree that those cells are way to comfortable. But if this person will be free in society again they have to make sure to not make them worse then they are at the moment. Torture doesn't make a bad person good. It rather drives them to do more crimes when they get the chance. Saying that I also know that some criminals are just evil and will never be good. Each case is different
@@ronA8te That ... was exactly his point. Removal of agency and liberty (which the lockdown procedures are) are percieved as a huge punishment - yet somehow, having somebody sentenced to that for 10 or 20 years isn't seen as sufficient punishment. There also needs to be a complete removal of any comfort or luxury.
That's what you get when your Prison system is based on rehabilitation and resocialization, rather than "revenge", profit and pure punishment. It's not perfect, but it's hell of a lot better than in the US or many other party of the world.
You do understand that the idea of an American prison is act to make life miserable enough so the prisoners do not want to come back. The problem is not with rehabilitation nor prisons but one, a culture where criminals are actually glorified, and for many institutionalization sets in. I could actually see that happening here. Especially if one doesn't have anywhere to go after release.
Your theory has one serious flaw. Sometimes people simply require warehousing. What do you do with those who CANNOT be rehabilitated???? The worst of the worst. Complete and total sociopaths??? The ones who know how to game the system??? Manipulative bastards hmm Let's say a Richard Ramirez or Charlie Manson type??? Do you honestly believe they CAN be reintegrated into society safely??? The answer has been proven time and again. No they cannot. In the US prison isnt some 4 star resort because we do recognize that fact. Prison is supposed to be a deterrent not a vacation. The real problem with US prisons is not so much about the system as is the people who reside within the prison walls. Tell me now, since this is Deutscheland, do you honestly believe Fritz Haarman, Joachim Kroll,Karl Denka or Adolf Seefeldt, could EVER safely been released from custody??? Again the answer to the question is a resounding Nein. Here unfortunately there is sufficient corruption in the prison system that the Insane sometimes run the asylum. No system works perfectly. Nothing is ever fool proof and not everyone can be rehabilitated and reintroduced into society at large.

My point exactly!
Lol I wanted to write German prisons look better then some whole countries.
It's like a normal college dorm. That is exactly what it should be. No more and no less. Anything else is against human rights.
When they dont behave well while inside prison, all the "luxury" is taken until they behave.
lol
nah germany like other european countries norway etc care a lot abt their human rights. they will not let them live in filth and they get to watch tv listen to music read books write etc bc our countries just believe that no one deserves to live the way prisoners do in some jails in the US.. the inmates in europe behave better and norway is also known for supporting ppl in jail for minor drug offenses etc to help them move back into life by preparing them for work etc. they make it possible for ppl in poverty and in jail to get back up on their feet and they have nice “cells” more like rooms w a normal bad a place to sit and a tv etc and it just looks sm better than the prisons in the US. no wonder american inmates r more likely to reoffend if they aren’t given proper care

There are alot of indications that all the brutality and "3rd world feeling" in the US prisons is mostly the goverments fault, because your "style" of rehabilitation and the way you are trying to reintigrate criminals into society is one of the most inefficient and cruel ways to do it, compared to other western nations.

@@moif-manmax6083 they are so backwards, just don't talk to them
Amazing to see how each country treats its citizens especially when it comes to prisoners
This is joke of prison, treated like kings
I feel like they finish high school then go 5-10 years in this hotel for free to earn some money and get out and live like normal human
The US treat prisoners like animals and that’s how they act.
@@jasam6483 yeah ? but you feel wrong
why arent you going there than ? i think we could work something out
I think a lot of people forget that prison is supposed to be about rehabilitation and releasing people back into society afterwards.
If they come out with bad mental health, no life skills, no education etc then its no surprise if they reoffend.
You only have to look at the comments to realise many people forget about what prisons are for. The US penal system is nothing to emulate.
Wow,you are naive!
@@michalnowak3558 because?
That’s a nice prison, it even has plants in the corridors. Those one man cells look like small studio apartment, if those guys saw the U.S prisons they would be very appreciative of what they have.
In Germany this is a "1 star Motel" *
I'm joining the woodwork class. Looks like fun.
n america that's a 3 star lol
These cells look comfortable especially when compared to us jails. Nice touch of blurring out the keys.

This is so interesting. i enjoy learning how each country runs their facilities and the rate of return on prisoners . This prison appears very nice , organized well .
Looks like a Cakewalk compared to a US prison.
And a US prison is Disneyland next to a Mexican prison
Hehe yeah. There are still some primitive prisons all over the world, unfortunately.
Yawn

Better living than my 1st studio apartment... these guys have it easy
If this is Germanys hardest prison, I am dying to see the minimum security ones...
I hear they give full body massages after yoga class. Sign me up 😁
basically the same, just "worse", because only those who stay for LONG get the chance to equip their cell with stuff... if you just in for a year or something, you have to live in the concrete box! ... but they might have tojust be in cells at night & can spend their days outside!.... basically like living with parents again under curfew & some restrictions like "no drinking" and such, but they can spend their days outside "free"!
This prison is the best l have seen, the inmates are treated so well unlike here in the United States where they are treated like animals, Great job Germany 🇩🇪
This is outrageous, my hostel room was far worse than this.
I've been in some hotels in a lot of countries (Italy, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, France, Slovakia) which were much worse than this.
@@lucavende7413 whoopty doo you go abroad a lot 👍
I think, the point is that you were able to leave whenever you liked. To LIVE in such tiny, tiny rooms for life... a whole different thing

I am from Aachen 😀 but I didn't know that we have the most dangerous prison here... luckily also the most secure one lmao
It's really sad to hear that he'll never financially recover from the postage stamps
Freedom being removed is their punishment, nothing else.

Yup. From Bosnia and they have a good system as well. The U.S has the highest recidivism rates and causes much more systemic harm
Rehabilitate killers in jail for life who will never get out? 🤔
Yeah, spend billions of hard working people taxes, to rehabilitate the monsters that killed those people’s family members...sounds right
Your theory has one serious flaw.
