Advocate for yourself to get the medical or mental health help that you need, a personal story.

  • I'm Fine, it's Fine, everything is Fine...or it will be soon enough! I want to thank the staff of The Quilted Forest for taking such great care of the shop while I'm on a six week resting phase. I could not do any of this without them, they are wonderful employees and friends.
If you were wondering why there were fewer videos from me than normal in December 2023, this video explains why. Now that I'm on the road to recovery, I'm looking forward to getting my various video series back on track.
I wasn't sure I should share this information on the channel, wasn't sure if it is appropriate, but if it helps just one person advocate for themselves to take charge and get the answers they need to whatever medical or mental health problem they are facing, it is worth sharing my story. I did leave out all the gory details, no one wants to hear that much! The few people I've shared my story with have all been very encouraging and others who have had similar experiences have shared with me how their life improved with the same procedure. I'm looking forward to a complete recovery and being back up to full strength and going full speed ahead very soon.
    Happy Quilting!!!
The Mayo Clinic surgical team, and all the nurses and support staff took very good care of me, they are absolutely top notch.

Thank you for sharing. It's hard to be vulnerable, especially in public. You're addressing a fear others also have. Sharing your story may give others the courage to do the same for themself. Keep on moving forward and blessings for healing sent your way.

What a joy to hear you are recovering well. And a beautiful reminder that we all need to advocate for ourselves and sometimes our loved ones and friends. Gastric surgeries of all types can be painful in themselves and have their own healing schedules. Be kind to yourself and allow those who wish to help, help you or your shop in this time. Let them practice their gifts. Praying God healing and comfort. Jan

My goodness why would anyone be upset if there’s no video, everyone has a life regardless of the reason. I’m happy that you have had your medical issue resolved. It’s a sad situation across the globe when someone can’t get the medical attention that they need, and trust me I know that, my daughter has to wait 6 months to see a specialist. If someone goes to the emergency ward your looking at a 14 hour wait. Love your videos. Thank you. 👍❤️😊

Your health is more important than videos. No need to ask for forgiveness. I had been thinking about you & working on noting my monthly projects for next year. Instead of shoe boxes, I found tacky Christmas cards & picked a wip/Ufo for each month ( a small goal on the back) and wrote a number on the envelope to get me ready to work with you. I commend you for taking care of yourself. I now tell people "if your doctor says do a screening test - DO IT." In the summer of 2022, my doctor said do the Cologuard test. Mine came back positive. The GI doctor thought it was probably be a false positive because I had no symptoms of any pain or disease, but we did the colonoscopy anyway. That led to surgery to remove a large mass in my colon at the end of November. It was CANCER. Moveover, during the surgery, they noticed something wrong with my left kidney. Again, no symptoms or pain, but the subsequent tests showed a tumor on the kidney that was nearly the size of the kidney itself. In February, I was back in the hospital to remove the cyst. It was CANCER again. ow, 10 months later, I am totally cancer-free, from two episodes that were caught and cleared years before I would have even the mildest symptoms or needed to go to the doctor with questions. Screenings are important!!! Don't ignore problems you even suspect. I was very fortunate. Take care of yourself, everyone, and be as lucky as I was.

So happy you are doing well and healing nicely! If you keep an open mind there is an author of a book I highly suggest! Anthony William has written 8- 9 books now they are amazing! My Mom has had a few bouts with diverticulitis so I was interested in the books because he identified the actual cause of that painful condition. I personally have healed many symptoms. 🥰🙏
