One of the leading surgeons in our city was sensitive to all of the then-available surgical prep solutions. So, he scrubbed with Ivory soap. Infection Control very carefully studied him, his skin and patients. As you probably suspect, he actually had a lower infection rate than others.

Excellent video! Just one comment on the Avagard technique - I would suggest using a first pump of the solution to 'paint' both the forearms first, then a second to do the hands last. This prevents you from breaking the sterile field if your forearm sweeps go above the most proximal point of your first scrub of the day!

You're not supposed to use the brush portion anywhere besides your nails, as it causes micro-abrasions on your skin. Bad for you, and bad for patient. Use the sponge side for the rest of the job. Also, you forgot your web spaces, and you are supposed to scrub 2" above your elbows. In Europe, they are only using the nail pick, and the brush side to clean nails, then they discard the scrub brush all together. It's only a matter of time until we folllow suit.
