@Killenmachine05 Thanks man but there's no way i come close to playing like Thomas Haake does live, nor will I except any recognition on these videos. I'm simply only covering the material. My hat goes off to the drummers and artists who create and write the songs!!!
Yeah I need to transcribe everything by ear first and then read through it when practicing it. This insures I play all the parts right from the very start. Other people have different processes of remembering material. This just works for me
Yeah I'm just kitten he's good but he doesn't have much feel in my opinion. He's all Forte... Troy on the other hand has lots of feel and dynamics and you can see it in his playing. He uses his wrists to accentuate and adds ghost notes in his fills to give it flavor.
the fascinating thing about this guy is that besides playing metal music like a beast he has probably mastered most techniques most drummers ignore, not only double stroke kick drum patterns which by itself is pretty hard to master , he also has his hands flying like a jazz drummer. I think that is fucking amazing
Because Meshuggah IS Thomas Haake. Its more interesting to watch the drum parts than the music. As a drummer, you have to admire what Haake does, and its fun to groove to. But djent guitar does get old. It takes the drummer to carry this music.
I love how you keep time with your left foot on the hi-hats and also on the left kick pedal throughout all of Combustion. Not many drummers have that ability to keep their left foot tapping like that and still play the kick with their right. Very impressive cover man, keep it up!
@breakinknucklesruler thanks mate, i changed the part in bleed a bit because i already covered the entire song earlier. check it out and let me know what you think
@Troy Wright Can you tell me is there any way to achieve snare ghost notes over the trrrt trrrt trrrt pattern in Bleed other than playing the song constantly?
+Nils Jonsson If you think hes not human, would you believe a human actually wrote all those drum parts and then played them back perfectly without having to listen to reference recordings because he memorized the beats in his head.
Whenever I see a videos of great drummer, I don't get discouraged, I get inspired, try my best to learn their tricks and am in the process of going through some formal instruction just so I can have better control of my sticks, and be able to make a living doing what I love.
If you look closely, you can see that ozone crash eyeing the paragon china, trying to pluck up the courage to ask her out. Fast forward two years, and today they're happily...um...well, on top of each other. United as a lovely stack.
Not true. I compared a part of this video with ghostnotes with a video of meshuggah performing that song live. Tomas didn't play the ghost notes, it could be seen clearly.
Seems to be standard in-ear monitors, that can also offer some sort of protection. Sound cancelling ones don't work on drums obviously as the sound and frequency from the drums is not steady. Hence they cancel air-conditioning and airplane engines but not drums, or speach, or a nagging wife.
You're amazing, a quadrillion times better than me, BUT, technically you played Pravus wrong. It's not a big deal but for the intro of it, the bass drum isn't just constantly going, right left right left. It's hard to explain, but for every snare hit, he breaks with his feet, or a foot. I don't know if you already knew this and just decided not to or if someone pointed it out, but I'm jealous of you and I figured this out on my own so I'm going to flaunt it. When I first heard pravus I played it the way you do, but I thought it seemed too simple for Tomas Haake, so I wondered if he did it in a "take turns" kinda way. This sounds dumb but in the Smashing Pumpkin's song 1979 when I was first teaching myself to play, I did the same kind of thing, hitting every landing every hit or whatever, but never at the same time as another. That weird way of playing was already in my head and I had used it several times just messing around on the drums so I listened really carefully and turned up the bass in my car and thought, "holy shit I think he stole my technique!" No not really. I waited for a live video of Pravus to pop up on TH-cam and focused on his legs and they weren't constantly moving, the left leg would take a break for every snare hit, and I was victorious. Then it took a while to learn it that way, and then the alternate way in the second verse. Ugh, Tomas Haake is an asshole. And probably nobody is going to read this. Giddyup.
Thanks a lot for the heads up. I was thinking of covering this song on my channel but I've been struggling to find out if it was the 'straight double kick' way or the 'take turns' way. I tried to look for some live videos but they weren't clear enough and sadly, there aren't any drum cam videos of Tomas Haake. Anyway, are there any other parts of the song that use this 'take turns' way? Cos it sounds like some of the parts(like the second riff) uses the 'straight double kick' way. Again, thanks a lot. I hope you'll reply... Lol.
Yep, it's not wrong, but he isn't playing like Tomas wrote. In the main riffs of Pravus Tomas plays the pattern "1 2 1 3 1 2 1 4" with his snare, while his foot fill in the gaps. The snare and bass drum does not hit at the same time during those sections, or else they wouldn't sound like they do in the record.
It's hard to hear what Tomas is playing sometimes for the sheer amount of ghost notes he includes or the actual mix of the album. I found the mix mainly the issue in transcription for the Chaosphere album. It often helps to listen to the bass if you're wondering what the bass drum is supposed to be doing.
I'm definitely not being arrogant, I think that this medley was absolutely stunning. However, I just have to point out that during the first verse of Bleed, I think you hit the snares wrong, cos the snare comes in on beat 3 of every measure of that part. However, this medley is absolutely amazing, and I wish I could literally just absorb your soul to play this well... no homo
+Pikaboss I think he did it on purpose: most of those who watch this medley have already watched his full cover of "Bleed" (many times :3), so that's something for a change.
Mullet King ah ok, I understand now, yea it's interesting, I just gotta get used to it. I mean, the fact that he can play Bleed in the first place is amazing, cause I could never even dream of getting my feet strong enough to play Bleed at full speed.
seriously though, this is amazing. and its more than just the amazing drum performance, the way the entire medley was put together was fantastic, so completely fluid, like an massive song. the you have a gift for arrangement as well as to be able to flow and entire meshuggah album of all things this well, and the personal touches like the accents in bleed, this medley is a work of art in and of itself. much respect.
Dorcas Malahlela they should under go a non-anestheticized surgery to have fake, lead ovaries implanted. Then each doctor and nurse that was involved in the surgery individually kicks the person in the lead ovaries.

Bernie 😊👏
+Elias Jackson Yeah, same here. The only difference is that I ain't a commie.
Damn you sure got me there
me too. it's a feelgood kinda flick
@@EliasJackson you should check out another Meshuggah medley by Stan Bicknell.
No doubt in my mind you’ll appreciate it
Never seen anyone make Bleed intentionally harder to play. You win at Internet.
th-cam.com/video/emrYOihivl8/w-d-xo.html
Mike Mangini in 2002
ruined the feeling of the groove for me but you're right shits in tents.
Troy Wright playing Bleed: th-cam.com/video/zSH730K1VuQ/w-d-xo.html
So... have you met Estepario Siberiano yet? Things changed 😏
Playing the vocals on the snare in Bleed, genius. Also show's that Jens plays a part in the rhythm of the song like everyone else.
Michael Sheridan Was thinking the same thing!
the only thng that doesn't play rhytm in Meshuggah is crazy free-jazz Thordendal solos)
Producing something like this back in 2011 was and still is legendary
The Electric Red/Lethargica transition sounds fucking awesome
+Jack B so does the combustion into bleed transition
+Declan Beyer So does the rest of the medley.
same, he fucking blended the two songs together, like wtf
holy shit
that was genius simply
One does not simply play bleed by accenting vocals on the snare while maintaining the foot pattern.
It´s more difficult, indeed
True polyrhytmic drumerrrrrrr
Jaaaaaah zat is not simply done.
yes :) i got the difference in the theme too :))
gibbsies Idiot.
@Killenmachine05 Thanks man but there's no way i come close to playing like Thomas Haake does live, nor will I except any recognition on these videos. I'm simply only covering the material. My hat goes off to the drummers and artists who create and write the songs!!!
Agreed. No offense you might have skills, but you’ll never come close to creating what Tomas I’m sure conjures up in his 4th dimensional sleep.
That transition to bleed wtf
To voice accent its, very cool and more mad
Holy shit, that intersplicing of Lethargica inside the breakdown of Electric Red... this guy is *good*.
i know this video is old but I'm genuinely disappointed he didn't play Lethargica for that long 😕
Yeah I need to transcribe everything by ear first and then read through it when practicing it. This insures I play all the parts right from the very start. Other people have different processes of remembering material. This just works for me
The transition from Electric Red to Lethargica is great.
how is this not the most viewed drum cover video on youtube
Luke Holland maybe would have that idk
Noah Papafagos Luke Holland is a scrub.
James Van Metre He's still talented, most people I know don't even know what good drumming sounds like lol
Yeah I'm just kitten he's good but he doesn't have much feel in my opinion. He's all Forte... Troy on the other hand has lots of feel and dynamics and you can see it in his playing. He uses his wrists to accentuate and adds ghost notes in his fills to give it flavor.
James Van Metre Yeah you're right about that
Meshuggah should play your Electric Red/Lethargica transition.
The dopest shit I swear
Dog you ain't lying I played that a few times over I love how the rhythms dances and twine together
when listening to the ablum I intentionally slide to the part to make it work in a janky way
the fascinating thing about this guy is that besides playing metal music like a beast he has probably mastered most techniques most drummers ignore, not only double stroke kick drum patterns which by itself is pretty hard to master , he also has his hands flying like a jazz drummer. I think that is fucking amazing
He was a jazz drummer before a metal drummer.
That transition in to lethargica is WOW
Following the lyrics with that snare?! Ingenious as fuck
The reason why this guy is such a good youtube drummer is because he adds tons of creative content like these medleys and drum remixes.
The blending of the end of Electric Red with the beginning of Lethargica is OUTSTANDING!!!
Here almost 8 years later and this shit is still amazing.
One of the craziest drum videos I've ever seen. VERY well done. Mad props.
I don't even like Meshuggah but I keep coming back to watch this.
Because Meshuggah IS Thomas Haake. Its more interesting to watch the drum parts than the music. As a drummer, you have to admire what Haake does, and its fun to groove to. But djent guitar does get old. It takes the drummer to carry this music.
I’ve been coming back to this video for like 5 years when I’m upset just so I can hear that bleed transition fill.
Some say he is still playing that outro to this very day
Probably to illustrate the whole riff cycle.
TheGreyMan93 its the introduction of Lucifer levitated from hell.. here for his souls
HAHAHA
Dat Lethargica Transition. So damn good.
Annnnnd accents vocals to bleed... that's excessive.
Is it bad to be excessive for a you tube cover?
You tube?
@@osmiloe2776 sorry my phone auto corrected to you tube

Pretty sure he says excessive in a complimentary way
1:49 Bleed's bass drum on the bottom of the body, Bleed's 'Vocal' at the top of the body. WOW! realy WOW!!
Thumbs up and cry in a corner of my bedroom is the minimum for this sick video dude.
I love how you keep time with your left foot on the hi-hats and also on the left kick pedal throughout all of Combustion. Not many drummers have that ability to keep their left foot tapping like that and still play the kick with their right. Very impressive cover man, keep it up!
That electric red to lethargic transition is sick
I saw this video 8 years ago.. this is still one of my favorite on youtube and i still feel so much willies in my body. Thank's Troy Wright
I think you are the Meshuggah hero, on youtube :DDD
That Electric Red/Lethargic mix there.....WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. AMAZING dude
omg electric red going into lethargica. fuuuuuckyes
boner jams 5000
Coldest shit ive seen in a fucking *fat* minute
Watching the mechanical precision of Meshuggah kick patterns is nothing less than hypnotizing

I still think Electric Red is the most badass track on this album. This cover was awesome to watch.
You are a machine. Perhaps better.
I said it once I said it a thousand times, best drummer and creator on TH-cam can't wait to see you in the pro scene man
Thanks man. Pineal Gland Optics = drum heaven
the crossover to bleed is phenomenal!
I love that fill at 7:23 Just fits in perfectly. A good example of taste over technical wizardry.
This album's almost 10 years old! Also, fucking rad playing. Couldn't stop watching! :D
That transition to Bleed was phenomenal!
I watched till 6:37 I was amazed...but then I stopped, turned of my PC and went out crying in the corner of the room...I'm not even mad about it!
You are not "meshuggah" about it ;)? (Just a joke, dnt take it seriusly)
HA!
Sorry for being late to the party Troy, this will be my daily go-to YT video for a very long time.
You're laid back accuracy and ability to play all this kind of makes me mad. I call cheating, you're not human!

God level sounding snare. Ghost notes matter. Flams are awesome :)

Fantastic job, super tough drum parts you nailed there :D

pure gold.
Such a monumental album in the history of metal, love it! The grooves are unreal
That memory tho
That groove at 13:17 still hurts my brain to this day. Amazing video
Hahaha, the transition to Bleed kicks ass
Love the transition between Electric Red and Lethargica, holy shit Troy. That was groovy as hell.
nice groove at 1:15 !!
I love all the ghost notes on the snare! I'm pretty sure most of them weren't there originally, but they fit in really well. Great job!
Probably every beat Tomas Haake has made, uses ghost notes lol.
Not true. I compared a part of this video with ghostnotes with a video of meshuggah performing that song live. Tomas didn't play the ghost notes, it could be seen clearly.
Best sounding snare and toms on TH-cam.
Great Technique and style. Entertaining to watch.
Tomas Hakke would be proud :,)
I will always come back to this video. Insane Troy
you're probably the only one that does Meshuggah as good as Tomas Haake himself! You're fucking sick!
Believe me. That Electric Red/Lethargica Transition is absolutelly outstanding. Great job dude.
Perhaps some people just disliked the video sarcastically?
I love Meshuggah. They're absolutely one of my favorite bands. Your covers make me love them even more.
Do those things protect your ears enough??
I'm not completely sure, so don't hold me to it.
