  • Jeep Renegade is a small crossover. However Renegade remains true to Jeep traditions with round headlights, 7-slot grill, boxy shape, short overhands and pronounced wheel-arches. And if anyone has any doubts there are also a bunch of cute Jeep-grill emblems around the whole car. So you always know you’re driving a Jeep.

    I bought the Renegade 1.4T FWD Limited, 6speed trans (with some extras like dual pane glass roof, keyless entry system and 18" rims) after seeing your helpful review.
    I absolutely love the car. Fyi I am married with two children and the internal space is very comfortable.
    I don't go off road, but for some rear occasions that you have to drive through a field, or climb up a pavement etc, the FWD Renegade is just great.
    It is indeed a little pricey, however -at least for me- it combined the following factors that may justify the price:
    1. Small engine (this means good mileage and reduced taxes).
    2. Powerful engine. 140hp turbo that give 23kgms of torque.
    3. Jeep brand. It gives a more luxurious and stylish sense to the car.
    4. Very beautiful. It combines a classy and sporty look.
    5. The engine and transmission have been used to many FIAT group models (Gulietta, Mito, Bravo, Punto, Lancia, Abarth etc etc) so at least they have proven their reliability and could also be easily modified. Fyi I have installed a plugNplay tuning box in mine so now the power has increased to 170hp and 26,5 kgms of torque. Believe me, it really gives quite a difference, especially for the lighter FWD model compared to the AWD ones.
    6. Very spacious.
    7. Good road clearance (very important if you live in a country with crappy roads).
    8. The ride is fantastic. The suspension is Koni FSD shocks(!) that adjust their stiffness according to the road anomalies.
    So, all in all, I think that what FIAT did by merging with Jeep, was fantastic and actually saved Jeep from bankruptcy. Many people now can own a Jeep. I mean not just be able to buy one, but also be in a position to support it.
    The only thing left to see now, is for this little Jeep to prove its reliability over time. Touch wood, two years later, I have not experienced any problems.

    Got myself the "top of the range" 2015 Trailhawk, needed 4x4 because of the Hillbilly area of where I live, it's got everything I needed, 9 speed auto, leather seats, & all the Hill descent & crawl controls, I love it to bits, 170 bhp. & a very nippy take off from a standing start, & with all the snow we had 2 winters ago, it sailed past all the idiots sliding about, my Son has the 2.8l Wrangler, so we are a Jeep family over here in West Yorkshire England.

    I bought a 2016 Renegade Sport 4x4 almost 2 years ago for $16,500 (with customer incentives) 1.4L turbo. The vehicle has back up camera , heated mirrors, alloy wheels, and a spare (a friend has a limited but they didnt have one). It handles well in the city and the 4x4 does great in the snow. I live next to Lake Erie in Cleveland, Ohio USA. The downside to this vehicle has been the check engine light that seems to come in when it is cold. Jeep says you need to have an engine heater but the dealer seems clueless about it. At this point I have about 16,000 miles on it so time will tell how well it does.

    I have had a Jeep Renegade since sept 26, 2015. it's jeep yellow and a trailhawk loaded. (No removeable roof) didn't want one. Never owned a Jeep (my son has a 2000 wrangler I drove for about 5 years) love the Jeep concept. This one is now 27 months old and has 23K on the odo, I have nothing bad to say about this small SUV other then it has had the normal things that you get with a new model, recalls and adjustments that were needed and small little repairs they made but other than that it runs well and is a very well thought out SUV. My wife & I love the car and will get a 2018 as long as they still come in Yellow! I had read that the car was slow and underperforms on the expressway. This is HOGWASH! It has 180 HP and runs like my 99 corvette did. I fly with this SUV on acceleration passing everything from a light or passing on the HWY. Maybe mine is a freak but that 9 speed Trans really performs better than expected. Here we are 2&1/2 years later and we are still in love with this car. I hope this review helps with making a decision on whether to buy one or not. I say go for it! I also own a Chevy Silverado & an Avalanche that we keep parked until we need a truck, they are 4 wheel drive also but the jeep renegade works well for us around town and on the highway.

    Last summer we was on an Italy-Austria-Germany-trip, and we rented an 1.6Lt diesel limited version of it. it was perfect on the road, going uphill and downhill as well in the cities. i loved it, but here in Cyprus, the prices stars from 22.000 and the Trailhawk with a few extra 37k.. I can import a 1-year old used Grand Cherokee from the Uk (we also drive wrong) with 42000... all the review videos i saw they say the same thing.. doesn't worth the money... for a Fiat.. Good and useful video!

Well done for the designers .....they seemed to have done a great job in cracking the code in drawing in the quirky emotive legacy of Jeep and messing with nostalgic women's minds...throws all sensibility and rational thought RIGHT OUT the window. I just could not reason with her to not buy it.....she was a women ON AN IMPULSIVE MISSION.She is 60 and has no clue what SAT NAV is or any of the tech features it has...."Oh that is nice dear"......First thing she asks ..."Where is the handbrake ?????"

    Actually just bought one. Maybe pricey, but (at least in Germany) you get massive knockoffs from dealers, so I ended up with a nearly full euipped Limited including DCT but 2WD (my offroad needs are all met by enough ground cleareance) for 25 Gran (almost 32000 list price). Not too bad. Used to own a 4x4 Yeti before, and yes, the Jeep is a but more on the rough and playful side, not as all reasonable as the Yeti. But hey, That's not the family station wagon, that's the other car, it's gotta look fun and be fun, and it does. The kids love it, daddy loves it, my wife bears it, so all is good!
    BTW @ 7:40 you're stating the 6.5 Navi costs 8000 Euros. Dude! Maybe Zloty?

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My mistake, I probably meant 800 Euros. Thanks for pointing it out. For two years nobody spotted it :)
      As for the deal you got - sure, with 25 percent off it makes much more sense. In Poland it holds its price surprisingly well.

  • @YouTubenonesense

    I think the price is fair. Entry level Renegade costs as much as a top range new Duster. Duster top range has more options but the Renegade is still better looking inside despite Duster's last effort and scores better in the NCAP safety test. Duster is better off roader so a decision is never easy.

    Jeep Renegade would make a perfect "bad-roader", so badly needed here in India. We are notorious for our pot holed roads. It is sometimes difficult to tell when there is a pot-hole in the road...to sometimes the road running for kilometers on end in a pothole(pun intended). We usually have mid-sized fuel guzzlers to make up for a typical 4x4. This vehicle surely would fill the void for THAT... small size all terrain 4x4, which is so badly needed, albeit with a diesel engine.

    Don't hate on FIAT. You have an hostility toward the brand that is observable throughout all the video and this tell me your are not objective in your review. I might be completely wrong and maybe those were just jokes but that is how you come off . Why do you turn good things into bad ones, they gave you two Usb outlets in two convenient spaces giving you more choice and you say it's bad??? I don't feel like this was a fair review.

  • @arildlangseth5829
    @arildlangseth5829 7 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    What a silly review. It doesn't seem like the reviewer knows much about the Renegade. Just because the FWD is good on road, the reviewer assumes that the Renegede is useless of road. That's not a very professional assumption, is it? Several reviews and real life videos on youtube will comfirm that the Renegade actually is by far the best in it's class of road. Some more facts that the reviewer tries to twist: In the AWD versions of the car you can actually lock the driveline in 4WD, so yes it actually can be real 4x4! And calling the Renegade a Fiat is like calling the Porsche Macan an Audi, or a Volvo XC60 a Ford. It's just plain stupid and ignorant. The Renegade was mostly engineered in the USA using the Fiat small wide plattform as a basis. The plattform was heavily modified and strengthened using 70% high strength steel. Yes, the engines available in Europe is from Fiat, and yes the driveline system is from UK based GKN and yes the safety systems are from German Bosch etc etc. But that's just common sense since these companies delievers world class compenents. Please in the future read up on the cars you are reviewing!

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You're talking about Renegade Trailhawk, which is crazy expensive in Europe. Actually this FWD Renegade is too expensive as it is for our standards here, and nobody is going to take it off road, because there are no proper trails any more.

    • @arildlangseth5829
      @arildlangseth5829 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Now you are making assumptions. You get even the cheapest trim levels with full time 4x4 also in Europe and if you choose the 2.0 diesel and the 9-speed auto, you even get a 20:1 craw ratio and hill descent control. Now the Trailawk may be expensive in some or most countries, but then again it really has now competition in it's class. And if the Trailhawk is too expensive, you can always go for the diesel with the 9-speed and you get all the traction and grip without the weight adding skid plates.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not quite. Trailhawk also has off-road suspension package (skid plates, extra ground clearance, different tires), which the regular Renegade does not get. And then there are two types of AWD. Trailhawk gets the one with low range. I know Jeep people in the States like to modify the shit out of anything with Jeep badge on the hood, but Europe this is supposed to be a mom-mobile, which happens to look cool. It looks cool, but so do many competitors, which are also cheaper and better equipped.

    • @arildlangseth5829
      @arildlangseth5829 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Again, you should read up on the specs of the 2.0 diesel automatic Renegade. It has the Active Drive Low system, that is the same as the Trrailhawk with the exception of the Rock Mode. It has both the 4WD Low (20:1 crawl ratio) and hill descent control. That is the same as the Trailhawks. Yes, it misses skid plates, more aggresive front and rear bumpers, the A/T tires and slightly higher springs. Both the cheaper and more expensive competitors does not stand a chance against the 4WD system of the Renegade. This was recently tested in Swedish magazine Vi bilägare. The Renegade (with the Active Drive system, not the even better Low system) beats other AWD cars like the Hyundai Tucson, Dacia Duster, Mazda CX-3, Renault Kajar, VW Golf Alltrack, VW Tiguan, Volvo V60 cross country, Mazda CX-5, Nissan X-Trail, Suzuki Vitara and more. The Renegade had no problem on the zero friction rollers. Wheel slip was at a minimum, both when tested horisontally and diagonally. The "competitors" either used several seconds with wheels spinning before shifting power to the wheel with grip, or slipped side ways or didn't get off the rollers at all. So the conclusion is: If you want a car with a AWD system that actually works when you need it the most, get the Jeep Renegade 4x4. Both the Active Drive and the Active Drive Low will trumf the competitors systems. And if you want a tough looking city SUV, then get the Renergade FWD or a cheaper competitor.

      I'm looking at the European version spec sheet, and there are two types of AWD. The one you're talking about is available AS AN OPTION in Renegade Limited. This puts the Renegade just below Tiguan price point. And Renegade FWD remains quite expensive compared to other city crossovers. I love the way it looks. Hell, I even thought of buying it. But not at that price point.

    omg...why do people have such a difficulty with whether a car in AWD or 4x4!! These are two separate systems, yet the terms get thrown around and make the people sound like they nothing about the car! ..mind he corrected himself but it annoys the hell out me (especially when Jeep has never had AWD..ever!)

      +ri mar Actually this is mid-spec. The Trailhawk is too expensive for most European buyers. The tested example is too expensive.

    The design makes it look like a plastic toy. Jeeps should be rugged and this looks like Michael Jackson pretending to be a gang member, as in his video for 'Bad'.
    If I wanted to buy a Jeep this wouldn't even make it on the list. In particular, those rear lights with the 'X' design just look ridiculous.
    Keep making these great review videos Marek.

      +Simon Barnsley Compared to other B-crossovers this one is actually quite interesting. But way too expensive here in Poland, especially if you want the version, which can actually do some off-roading.
