One of the best reviews I've seen on YT. Minimal chitchat; emphasis on specs and characteristics. Also the test-drive with focus on the car, and not on the driver/presentor; which is quite exceptional considering other YT-reviews of this model. Thumbs up.
Needs more emphasis on reliability though, because it turns out the renegade is one of the least reliable cars you can buy. I really wanted one, but after reading the non-stop problems on the forum, I'm glad I passed.
@@BoopSnoot forms are very hit miss. You would need to look at the amount sold vs the amount of people complaining. Best review of the Renegade, and a great explanation of the 9 speed auto. I just bought a 2018 Trailhawk loaded with everything except the sun roof used with just 1633 miles for 24K. I am so pleased with that deal! Great job, Alex!
I am not going to lie, my spouse kept suggesting this car and I was like mmm nope. Then I said let me give it a chance, and this is by far the best review I have seen. He removed the sunroof and that was a high point seller for me. We are currently looking at the 2018 Jeep Renegade and I am support excited to move forward with our in the next coming weeks. :)
I have finally narrowed down why Alex is the best auto presenter overall. To my knowledge only he explains the competition as he goes. I learn so much, so quickly it is a no brainer to search out Alex.
This guy can talk like nobody's business! An excellent, on point review, no fluff, just the facts, and a lot of them! I've seen a bazillion auto reviews in the last year on TH-cam, and I think this guy is the best. Maybe not the "funniest", the "SavageGoose" wins that contest, but if your looking for a "meat and potatoes" review, this is your guy! On a personal note, I bought a used 2016 75th anniversary Renegade last summer with 69K on the odometer. Kind of took a leap of faith, as I've always been a "Toyota" guy, but I wanted something with a "fun factor", reliability be damned. Not surprisingly, the Renegade has provided some minor "challenges" so far, but overall once I ironed out some of the "kinks" in the first three months(certified used, and that came in handy) mechanically it's performed pretty well. It starts up every morning, and that's half the battle, isn't it? I enjoy the MySky roof, even though that has posed an issue from time to time when it thinks the track has an obstruction and refuses to close up completely! Shot it with some lithium grease and that surprisingly took care of the problem. Apparently, many Jeep aficionados absolutely hate how the Renegade looks and despise it because it's not a "Wrangler". I, on the other hand, love how it looks ( I love boxy shapes) and couldn't give a rat's ass that it isn't a "Wrangler", so take that, Wrangler fan boys! I've got the 6 speed manual (I think I found the last one on earth), love how compact it is, and I like the commanding high position the Renegade provides compared to smaller crossovers in this segment. It's not the most "refined" ride out there if that's what you're looking for, it feels more like a "truck", but the damn thing is fun!
I have a 2016 Renegade Limited and I absolutely love it. Not a race car but peppy and off road capable even without the trailhawk package. Obviously it's not a Rubicon so it isn't intended for hardcore offroading.

Its fine. Unless you live in places with hot summers, I'm in northern California right now and it's not a problem but when I go back home southern California with 115°F it's just not good enough
I have a 2017 Jeep Renegade Latitude and live in Oklahoma. Summers reach about 110 degrees F. The Air is freezing when you start going down the road. I tend to have to turn it way down.
I got a 16” Jeep Renegade 1.4 T 4x4. With 18” wheels it drives very good and has really good off road capabilities. Plus is compact but spacious at the same time, perfect for who live in urban areas, however twisty roads and off road trails are fun. Mpg is not bad either, I average 26 mpg. I definitely like it.

Excellent review Alex! My son just bought a used very nice black 2015 Renegade with 2.4 L.I just hope for him that it will be as reliable as Japaneese brands.
This is how you do a car review & road test. Almost half an hour, and nothing felt like superfluous "filler". Great job. Also, from what I see I really like this little Jeep. I love taking my kids camping or taking the dogs to the beach or mountain (with plenty of gravel road travel), but I also need something smallish and economical as a daily commuter. And this boxy Jeep styling appeals to me. Problem is these cars get so pricy once they come to South Africa.

Incredible review!!! I like what you said about the engine being designed to perform that way. Most people are complaining about the acceleration but I find that 9 speed automatic is a plus and a slight speed advantage off the line.
Thank you for your excellent review of the Jeep Renegade. You do an awesome job of presentation of the cars features. My wife and I have a 2016 Limited . We do some off road adventures here in Arizona up in the Bradshaw Mountains. We have found the Renegade to be a good everyday driver and very capable for moderate off road utilization. We are both in our 70s and retired but active the Renegade really has served us well. If I have any dissatisfaction it is in the factory tires , just not durable. Typical of most factory issue tires. We plan on upgrading when it’s time to retire this set when it’s time to retire them . Our Renegade has all the features but the removal roof panels. We took the Jeep to the DeSota Mine trail and it stayed right up to the Wranglers .
Great Vid, Alex. Any chance you may do a review for 2017 escape, I saw a lot vids coming on youtube those days, but you can definitely become one of the reliable resources.
Great review as usual Alex. We've owned our Renegade Limited for half a year now and 7500 miles now and we still love it. Your review is accurate, it's not fast but peppy, comfortable, cute and surprising practical for our small family. Although, I think it may handle better than you give it credit for but I guess you are comparing it to other vehicles that are basically cars with slightly higher ground clearance and roof heights. Keep up the good work.
Isn’t the 2ltr diesel Trailhawk available in the states? It’s good for 168bhp and averages 38mpg combined. The motor is very torquey, giving a 0-60 time of 8.9 secs and decent towing capacity. I love this car. Really enjoyed the review. Very comprehensive and informative. I’d like to see a side by side comparison of the 2.4ltr tiger shark engine against the 2ltr diesel. Keep ‘em coming.
Great video as usual. Wish Jeep would put a more gutsy engine in this. Hey, can you make up a "crosswind rating"? I only ask because a lot of us don't get a chance to find out until we've already purchased a car and your reviews are so detailed. Would be nice to know how a vehicle will handle going around a Semi or in a strong crosswind.
This would be a cool idea. I deal with this almost everyday in my Jeep Patriot in a high winds part of the country. Suffice to say sometimes it feels like I'm trying to drive a bucking bronco.
I have watched 4 of your videos so far and I feel like I learned alot of new stuff that I will use in my search for a new car next year. I test drove this Renegade and I liked how it handled and it felt a little bit fun to drive, but i don't like how its not good on MPG as other contenders.. I have a suggestion to add to the videos though, can you add sound quality to the infotainment reviews & whether or not it has smartphone capabilities? another would be, if the power outlets turn off (for those of us that like to keep our chargers plugged in when not being used) Thanks for the reviews and keep it up! I really like how thorough you are, and in this video, showing how to remove the roof panels! big A+
i've owned by blkRene Limited for about 3 months. took awhile to get used to transmission. but once i did i like it.hard to keep this puppy under 90 on texas hwys. airtight, the uConnect makes this sucker great.aslo allows to adjust the standard audio system to get pretty close to a high quality sound. 21 mpg sucks but had aK& E air filter put inoa milage getting better but got better exceleration. i likey But this lilRene is the most fun, best built car i've ever owned. excellent design and solid. my only complaint is the hand grip to close the "liftGate" it feels cheap & one good slam ek!!! but man its fun as hell to drive. my wife loves the heated leather seats. me i love the sound of the mufflers. my limited 2.4l was made in Melfi italy, they must be proud of their work. seamless
ive had a 2016 renegade trailhawk in the solar yellow with black trim and now i have a 2017 jeep renegade 4×4 limited ...awesome vehicles and ive owned a few....
This seems like very nice car, especially coming from Jeep, which is known for plain, utilitarian cars. A huge upgrade from the patriot and the Compass. Looks like Chrysler-Dodge is finally getting it's act together.
The 1.4 with the 6 speed manual was actually fun to drive. That little turbo was a nice boost. It wasn't my mini on the back roads but it didn't feel like a typical SUV
I do wish the review would cover the manual transmission. Other reviewers have noted how different (in good terms) the manual is over the auto version.
So recently I rented a FWD Jeep renegade. I'm sad to report that the driving dynamics are very bad. The ford escape was so better when compared to this. I can even tolerate the transmission and engine throttle response. However, the vehicle did not feel surefooted in highway speeds, steering feel was non-existent, there was a wobbly sensation, had to correct the steering a lot to stay within the lane lines. The interior was good. And it doesn't help that my daily driver is a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta wagon and I constantly kept comparing how nimble and surefooted that vehicle felt when compared to this.
Nice Review Alex. I am suprised that they don't offer a more powerful engine in this vehicle. it would do wonders especially considering the ZF 9 spd and high curb weight. I
I love it! Design is a bit similar to fiat panda but much bigger. I love jeep company. If someone change from grand Cherokee to renegade can u share the feelings please. Because i am thinking to buy it in a while
Want to hear from any big guys that bought this or the new Compass. I'm 6'1, 260lbs. Would I be comfortable? I had a 1998 Cherokee Sport 4dr and had to install the 'Big Boy' seat extension brackets because the seat didn't go back far enough. Had a buddy trade in his Ram Mega Cab for a Kia Soul (Pure sacrilege I know!) but he was like 6'3 and over 300lbs and was comfortable.
I just purchased a 2018 3 days ago. I'm 6'3 and 260. There is plenty of head room, leg room and the cabin is deep. I wear a size 12 shoe and there is room for my feet, although when I wear my work boots feet room can be tight, but you can always bring a pair of sneakers to wear when driving and you're good.
Great catch on the extra 4" in width - that significantly shifts my research. Because the Renegade looks so tall and stubby, I figured it was on the narrow side as well. Now my eyes are opened! Any thoughts on the Renegade Sport vs. the all-new Compass Sport? Looks like the Compass is only 10 inches longer; gains a back-up cam in the low-end Sport Trim; loses the 1.4 Turbo (I'd rather have the Turbo at altitude) but gains a MT option with the 2.4L. Plus rear aircon vents, good for my kids. Anything I'm missing?
This guy must be 7' tall. I'm 6'1" tall and I can't see the top of my Renegade. When he's standing beside the Renegade, his head is well above the top of the car. Makes it appear the Renegade is smaller than what it is. I have a 2016 Jeep Renegade Latitude, 2.4l and I love it. He is correct - the head room clearance is great!
In the fall of 2017 I purchased a new 2017 Jeep Renegade from a dealer in Anchorage Alaska. I live in a remote Alaskan town with the closest mechanic over 100 miles away - in Canada. I made it clear to the dealer I needed a reliable, sturdy vehicle. The car was fine until the temperature dropped below 20F then it would start - and immediately stall with a noticeable smell of gas. I called the dealer and he recommended using Heet and blamed the bad gas in the town. Heet did nothing and no other car is having the same problem. The dealer is over 700 miles away and I can't have the car towed back. There's no one to work on it here and the dealer is unwilling to do anything more. The car is a princess car - it'll only run if it's warm and sunny. Which means i'm walking to work at 20 below. Moral is don't buy Jeep and don't buy a Jeep Renegade. As soon as possible I'm taking it to another town to trade it in for a Japanese or Korean car. Something reliable.
thank you Alex. would you please put them the cars in your own category list which one you like first and which one you put at the end of the list. I know every car has its own feature but please choose the number one car. thank you
Hey, Alex! If u had to choose, which one would you pick up, HRV with the LED Headlamp (like the Japan version), CX3 or Renegade? I'll be much driving alone in city (don't need 4wd) and occasionally carry equipments. Love all ur reviews and btw u r like Nathan Fillion or Richard Castle.. lol just kidding
Hey Alex, great review! I just have a quick question: how do you measure the range of motion on a tilt/telescoping steering wheel? I notice most of your reviews describe it as "large" or "decent", but it all kind of looks the same on camera. Do you have a way of measuring it? Or is it subjective based on the car/class that the car is in? Just wondering, thanks! Keep up the great work!
It's subjective. I usually just check to see that the "middle" of the range is comfortable for me. If it is, then it should be OK for taller or shorter folks. If I'm at one end of the motion then it's not going to be able to accommodate people of different dimensions.
Great job Alex on the review. I just got a Latitude trim 1.4L 6-speed manual FWD. I wanted the 4WD version but they are VERY hard to find with a manual and to be honest I don't off-road enough to justify the extra cost. I'm really enjoying the car. I think the FWD version, especially being a little lower seems to have a firmer ride. I like this as it's got pointy steering, a short wheel base and feels very nimble, especially for being so tall. If have a min to reply... My sales guy said that there is no break in on new cars now. Is this the case. For now I'm taking it gentle on the little engine. He also said it doesn't require premium even though it's a turbo. Is my sales guy nuts? Do I need to break it in and should I put premium in it? Thanks!
@@TheRenaissanceAmazon I don't have this car anymore but I enjoyed it while I had it. I drive an EV now. I stuck to my guns that I wouldn't give up driving a manual unless it was for an EV. I miss driving a stick sometimes. I can't speak for how well the renegade will hold up 6 years on, but it seemed reasonably solid while I had it. Cheers.
I was thinking about ditching my Chevy Cruz and getting a Jeep Renegade. I'm looking at an Automatic Sport, 4X4 with My sky. But I never owned a FIAT and I heard really nasty things about FIAT reliability and my Chevy Cruz has very poor reliability and I don't want to jump from the frying pan into the fire. Has FIAT changed their tune? Is the Renegade the exemption to the rule?
Jeep and Dodge are the only ones left that actually make styling and back wheel drive models and four-wheel drive models that people want while everybody else is copying off each other and boring and high priced
I like those. One for nitrous, one for daylighters, one for ejector seat, one for caltrop deployment. They are possibilities just waiting for your creativity to fill.
Robert Moore basically the same car, depends on your styling preference, the compass does have bigger cargo space. I personally lean towards the "unique" renegade look rather than the mini grand cherokee look found on the new compass, that said the new compass is quite a looker.
Hi Alex! I have really enjoyed your videos for a while now, but am getting a bit confused as I wait for new reviews; you have not covered any Mitsubishi products. Why? I have recently stumbled my way into owning an 2014 Outlander Sport (RVR here in Canada) and a 2016 Outlander GT (both have a lockable drive train). The Sport was the cheapest AWD SUV at the time we bought it (our winters are brutal) and, according to my testing of top safety rated SUV's, the Outlander GT outperformed the rest of the competition in virtually every category in my opinion (much to my surprise). I'm getting confused; why have you not covered any Mitsubishi's?
It depends on the manufacturer making test cars available to the journalists and associations, I think Alex said a while back that he currently doesn't have access to Mitsubishis. The best way we can help Alex get access to more cars is by subscribing, liking, and commenting on his channel to show how popular he is. I noticed Mitsubishi is trying something different by sending cars to non-automotive youtubers.
I have access, however they have been honestly low priority for me since the sales volume is so low. If I have the choice about what cars to review, I genberally try to review cars that more folks are shopping for.
I'm glad you like your Mitsubishis! I used to sell Mitsubishi and despite being very capable and reliable they have very little brand recognition in the US. The new Outlander's look is a great improvement. Which engine do you have in your RVR?
+Alex on Autos Thank you so much for getting back to me! I really appreciate it Alex. Your approach makes sense. I would do the same thing. Perhaps then, as a sort of compromise, you could mention the Mitsubishi products in your list of comparable a instead of strictly reviewing them? I'm sure it wouldn't take much investment on your behalf for you to get familiar enough with the brand (if you already aren't) to make quick comments about their vehicles in your other videos. Although, perhaps in order to keep your comparables to a reasonable side, you have to cut some vehicles...
Why they have very little brand recognition in the US? Many years back they where also unknown of in Europe but that changed quickly. The people discovered the high build quality especially compared to the poor quality of French Italian and British cars so quality sells itself... or not??
Alex, really like your video. Very detailed. But a FCA product is like playing Russian roulette for reliability. Good luck. By the way, we almost don't see them in Canada. Peoples are getting smarter with Jeep products. Not many are buying them.
They don't care, people love to hate jeeps, somebody once told them the brand new transmission in the brand new car models had issues, and they'll never let it go.
At first I thought this thing was ugly as hell, but it really grows on you. Has a bit of personality and differs from the rest of the pack.
My thoughts exactly lol

This would be a cool idea. I deal with this almost everyday in my Jeep Patriot in a high winds part of the country. Suffice to say sometimes it feels like I'm trying to drive a bucking bronco.
I'm getting 25.6 MPG mixed in my 2017 Latitude.
I have watched 4 of your videos so far and I feel like I learned alot of new stuff that I will use in my search for a new car next year. I test drove this Renegade and I liked how it handled and it felt a little bit fun to drive, but i don't like how its not good on MPG as other contenders..
I have a suggestion to add to the videos though,
can you add sound quality to the infotainment reviews & whether or not it has smartphone capabilities?
another would be, if the power outlets turn off (for those of us that like to keep our chargers plugged in when not being used)
Thanks for the reviews and keep it up!
21 mpg sucks but had aK& E air filter put inoa milage getting better but got better exceleration. i likey
But this lilRene is the most fun, best built car i've ever owned. excellent design and solid. my only complaint is the hand grip to close the "liftGate" it feels cheap & one good slam ek!!! but man its fun as hell to drive. my wife loves the heated leather seats. me i love the sound of the mufflers. my limited 2.4l was made in Melfi italy, they must be proud of their work. seamless
"my" but by could work according to my jeffe. heh.
Lloyd Spruce Melfi, not Milan ;)
fx'd- thank you.
ive had a 2016 renegade trailhawk in the solar yellow with black trim and now i have a 2017 jeep renegade 4×4 limited ...awesome vehicles and ive owned a few....
Did your 2017 limited come with a spare tire or not?
Looking at a used renegade. thank you for the in-depth review.
As always, great job Alex! Keep 'em coming!
This car is really growing on me...
I have been wanting one of these for months. Hopefully I will be able to get one.
wow! i love your how informative your videos are! I'm looking for a X-over and your videos are really helpful. thanks man!
New subscriber! I'm enjoying your videos. They are very informative and detailed. I would love to see you review the Fiat 500x.
Great video. However I point the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk does not have a 2 speed transfer box, other than that super.
Nice complete review. Hope you get a Subaru Outback review soon.
It was this or the Encore. I want a small US SUV. I know the Encore comes with classier interior. I will get this though . Handling looks better.
I like the trivia nuggets...you should do that more often throughout the video's.
Roll down them back windows and then reevaluate the cabin noise.
awesome one of best review done.u do detail and like it
Nice Review Alex. I am suprised that they don't offer a more powerful engine in this vehicle. it would do wonders especially considering the ZF 9 spd and high curb weight. I
Very detailed rvw. Nice work!
I love it! Design is a bit similar to fiat panda but much bigger. I love jeep company. If someone change from grand Cherokee to renegade can u share the feelings please. Because i am thinking to buy it in a while
Cute little Jeep!💕
Want to hear from any big guys that bought this or the new Compass. I'm 6'1, 260lbs. Would I be comfortable? I had a 1998 Cherokee Sport 4dr and had to install the 'Big Boy' seat extension brackets because the seat didn't go back far enough. Had a buddy trade in his Ram Mega Cab for a Kia Soul (Pure sacrilege I know!) but he was like 6'3 and over 300lbs and was comfortable.
yes you would,my 6'4 son fits quite well in it....
It's 8.7 inches on the Trailhawk
Outstanding! Well made vid
Rob S How has the Renegade been? Any problems?
TuAnh Duong none at all. it's been a great car to drive so far
Rob S nah I'm 6'6 and the top of that car is around my shoulder or a bit more. The car isn't that tall
Rob S The car is 167cm tall
How is waste/shoulder room? I'm also 6'1 but I'm about 265lbs. Wondering if i'd be comfortable...
Hi Alex can you review the Subaru Crosstrek limited with iSight
"No spare tire" Yeah, okay, don't complain when your in the middle of nowhere and have a flat.
He only has the limited model though...
haha...you were jamming spice girls 8:20, snicker!
Thanks for answering! It's great that you take driving position and the steering wheel travel in that consideration.
I heard you say that the base model comes without A/C, is it equipped with heating?
Excellent review.
Great review
A wonderful car 🔝🥇🏆❤️👍💪👋
I love the 9 speed transmission .. The Renegade is a fast little Jeep.. lol
I've been waiting for this one.
As have I.
can you do a video on the Jeep scrambler? the ones that were out in the 60's that they made a newer version of recently?
I want this as my first car!
Thanks!
Are you still liking the car? I’m thinking of getting a 2017 Manual Transmission.
Cheers.
Alex, how is 1.4 with MT?
That 2019/2020 version looks so much better now..
DeadMarine1980
Not to sound rude, but this isn't a fiat. It's a jeep. :)
Fiat owns Jeep.
it rides on a Fiat chassis = FIAT. it is made in italy brazil and china. on the fiat assembly line.
I own one. no problems at all. and it tears up the snow.
Debating on trading in my Mini Countryman for this renegade
Sir Alex, please make a review for Kia Forte Koup.
Alex did you do the infotainment video? I can’t click on that link
Dear Alex, any review for jaguar xjl 2014 and newer please. thank u
Wow! Great off-road worthiness for a cross-over. Do you think this model would be plagued with Jeep's known reliability issues?
I agree.
Jeep and Dodge are the only ones left that actually make styling and back wheel drive models and four-wheel drive models that people want while everybody else is copying off each other and boring and high priced
Is it true that ac doesn't come as stand you have to add a package for that?
Can you make a video for audi a4 2017
Can you make a review for Renault Captur ? Thank you.
Is there any cause for concern with their lackluster safety rating?
Pls don't call it a Jeeplet, I'm embarrassed to drive one now lmao 😂
Lorenzo Cordero i proudly call mine my baby Jeep. 😂
Look up "Cute Ute" and be utterly disappointed lol
Wrangler snob?
How’s your fuel consumption so far with JeepRenegade
Like Km/L or Mpg ( Miles per Gallon)
Am I the only person who gets bugged by the blank buttons in cars?
No, it drives me crazy too.
Stultus Puer there for stickers duh, stickers for grown ups
No,it's a ocd thing
I like those. One for nitrous, one for daylighters, one for ejector seat, one for caltrop deployment. They are possibilities just waiting for your creativity to fill.
Waaaaa!
I’m looking at a Jeep rene 2017, so you guys think it’s a good car for a first car with 112 k miles ?
does all the renegades not have Cruise control
Buy a renegade or compass?
I've seen a few in the small town I live in....I usually either feel sympathy or disgust depending on how much of a dickhead the driver is...lol....
Pierre Huot they only had issues with the 9 speed. They have been fixed
They don't care, people love to hate jeeps, somebody once told them the brand new transmission in the brand new car models had issues, and they'll never let it go.
ekim andersom 62 percent according to sticker
Actually, Jeep is reporting record sales. I see easily 35 Jeeps around my town every single day.
