Hi. For anyone who has a 1.4litre twin charged engine - codes BMY and BLG (I have a BLG in a 2008 GT Sport), a great reference on how the engine and the boost system are set-up and work is VW's own "Self Study Program". Just do a google search for "SSP-359". This is a PDF file. The title is self explanatory "1.4l TSI Engine with Dual Charging. Design and Function". I believe these VW SSPs are training material for VW techs. Understanding how the system is set up and works is a great help to trouble shooting. Also, the SSP has a good section on how the ECU responds to various engine sensor failures.
Hey, you're awesome! I'm doing a college level Auto tech research project on twincharging and no image on the internet had the intake pipe removed, preventing me from seeing that the Eaton supercharger runs off a separate pulley off the water pump. I knew it was mag-clutched but could only see the single pulley and was very confused. I found the appropriate image in ten seconds after pulling up that PDF. Thank you!
Thanks Harrod! Seems like quite the complicated procedure for a noob DIY mechanic like my self, but this was too expensive to do at the shop, so I'll give it a try.
It’s not hard, just take your time. Make sure you have the right tools on hand. Also, if replacing with a secondhand one make sure the rubber seal is good.
Hi, I recently had a new water pump failure of my VW twincharged Jetta (1.4tsi) Now after a hefty repaire bill, some new belts and waterpump I'm experiencing a very sudden and short whooshing noise under inial load, at lower RPMS (before the turbo kicks in). The mechanic swears there is no pressure leaks or loose clamps. Ive owned the car since new and never heard this before and curious if you have any opinions on what it could be?
Hmm that’s a hard one. Maybe check the bypass valve at the turbo. When I took mine off it broke because of the year of heat cycles. Sounds like a valve of some sort
Hello, just saw this and was just wondering how the supercharger belt was taken off from the pulley please? Would you need a special tool to let the tensioner loose and finally take the inner belt off then the waterpump? Truly appreciate it if you could answer me please.
I got myself a M6 bolt about 30mm long and ground the threads off to make a pin. Pulled the tensioner back and put the pin through the hole provided to keep it back. I did the same with the main belt. I think I just used a Spanner if I remember correctly to pull the tensioner back, it was a few years ago now. Hope this helps. Let me know how you go.

There was a time when the pump leaked a little, I remembered the pipe, initially they thought they would then change the pump, the new pump leaked again, I remembered the rubber gasket, for a week everything was fine and it started leaking again, it just started leaking very well, the antifreeze level is constantly fluctuating, then below the minimum, I drove, arrived, stood The car may already be above the maximum, then it displays the error of not enough antifreeze, despite all this, there are no problems with inflation, the temperature is maintained at 90. Oh that’s a hard one. So replaced with new, still leaking. Then replaced seal still leaking. Sounds like it’s mounting properly then. Maybe, not torqued down properly or threads have striped causing it come a little loose allowing air in when off. Maybe check out the threads on the block where it mounts up to and the mating surfaces. Hope this helps.
Did you get to the bottom of the supercharger issues? I'm driving a golf mk5 gt sport 1.4tsi and recently noticed I'm not getting any boost pressure at low rpm. Also noticed possible pinging sound when attempting moderate acceleration from stationary start in 1st gear. (Manual gearbox) I've been driving it like an old woman to minimize risk of other damage. Was as if I was taking my foot on and off the pedal. This sound like supercharger clutch slip to you? Waterpump was last changed around 30k ago from memory.
Low down power loss without boost would be the supercharger clutch/ water pump. But our golf also had a stretched timing chain so that put everything out.
