    Hey I just wanted to give a few tips to some people watching this video! I just want to save you a few steps, and a bit of time and so that you don't have to take the battery out too. There is plenty of room between the battery and the housing to remove all the cooling hoses as well as the housing. To remove the cam cover and actually rip the water pump out, it is actually a lot easier if you remove the airbox(filter box) and intake pipe. Yes there are 2, the airbox connects to the intake scoop at the front of the engine bay and completes the circuit on the turbo. The other intake pipe connects from the throttle body to the turbo. For the intake pipe from the throttle body, you only have to remove the airflow sensor(requires the same Torx bit as the others: T30) from the pipe directly above the cam cover, and then it has 2 plastic clips on either end of the pipe which you can lever aside with your fingers to remove the pipe(as usual with euro things don't push it too far as the tangs can be very brittle but they do not need to be moved very far for removal). The airbox itself is also very easy, once you disconnect the hose clamps the airbox just pops up towards you off its rubber grommets. Once you have removed the airbox and intake pipe from the top of the motor you will very easily be able to remove the plastic vacuum line out of your way without having to bend it too far, take out both T30's and remove the vacuum line just to be safe. Then you can remove the cam cover, take out the water pump housing and because you removed the intake pipes you will be able to see a little bit more of the crevasse behind the cam gear for any extra cleaning or repairs. There is nothing wrong with the procedure in this video, a lot of mechanic would do it that way but I just couldn't help but notice that the battery can stay, and removing the intake pipes will help anyone who is not confident in their ability to remove engine plastics without accidentally snapping something. Removing the intake and airbox will allow a lot of room for you to move the brittle pieces around without the risk of damaging them. Hope this helps!

    Great video, really enjoyed that. Couple of questions: what was wrong with the existing pump, was it leaking? And why is the pump not beside the timing belt, I’m not a mechanic but always thought the water pump and timing belt were connected (which is why the water pump gets replaced at the same time as the timing belt)?

    • @TEAMR4ULTV
      @TEAMR4ULTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching really appreciate it. I'll be honest I thought that same thing exactly. For some reason on the 1.4 it's on the other side. Also reason for Replacment was it was leaking and wasn't blowing hot air through the heater

    • @craigsooman7901
      @craigsooman7901 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TEAMR4ULTV many thanks. My Golf mk7 1.4tsi has the same problem. Mine will produce heat, but only if I give it revs, won't get enough heat through vents with engine idle. Did the new pump fix the problem?

    • @victorcortes9851
      @victorcortes9851 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Higher RPM means the cams also moves faster, and because the pump is cam driven, the pump flows more coolant throughout the car. The OEM pump has a plastic impeller which overtime degrades or cracks. Sometimes, you could loose an entire vane (plastic fin that flows the coolant) so the flow of coolant is lower than normal. Being That your cars heater relies on coolant flow, your most likely having early symptoms of a pump starting to fail. But like everything, double check to see if your problem isn't coming from a restriction, or something clogging the system. I personally do multiple coolant flushes when I do a pump anyways just to get a fresh flow.

  • @garymaclean6903
    @garymaclean6903 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I also have a question about the coolant. If the water-pump failed, or was leaking, likely the coolant is old enough to need changing too? Isn't it supposed to be flushed every 6 years or so? Is it just a matter of removing a lower coolant hose to the rad, and let the old coolant drain? Or is there a way to actually 'flush-out' the old coolant with water? How much undiluted coolant do you add before topping up with water? Where's the best place to add to make sure there's no air pockets in the cooling system?? I doubt the over-flow tank is the way to go, as coolant is only sucked back from there as the hot engine cools. You can't run a dry engine, as it will over-heat quickly.

    • @TEAMR4ULTV
      @TEAMR4ULTV  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's the best way just undo the bottom rad hose. Fill it up with coolant and water all the way up to the top, put the cap back on leave it running untill up to temperature above 90 degrees when fan kicks in and thermostat opens turn car off wait for it to cool down a little then you will see that the coolant has dropped in the expansion Bottle re top up and your good to go.
