Unhitching and re-hitching surely took 20mins compared to 30 seconds of maths!

First watched this 4 years ago, just watch this pod again. Mate you do a really good job show chasing your vans and road testing the toe vehicles. I'm going to buy a second hand 200 2018 to 2020 model. I was reviewing this video to get the fuel consumption figure. The 300 is outside of buy budget but hey a good low Kilos 200 pickup for 80K. Do it again with the new models cheers.

Noticed you used the LC200 on economy mode, as do I. I’ve got a LC200 GXL 2019 model with ARB BP51 600kg suspension upgrade and all the accessories from ARB (F&R lockers, air compressor, cargo draws, uhf, diff breathers, cargo barrier, roof rack, bash plates, twin wheel carrier rear bar, snorkel, long range tanks for 270 litres of diesel, etc) but I’ve also got a lockup converter on my auto trans. From Brisbane. This saves me about 3 to 4 litres per 100kms, keeps the auto trans cooler especially when towing my LXV 4.7 and holds gears better. As I’ve travelled around Australia these last 9 months I too get about 22 ltrs per 100 kms. I’ve done the Oodnadatta track from William Creek to Mount Dare, explored the NT, SA ,gone coastal around WA, crossed the Nullarbor and now I’m back in Melbourne for Xmas. New year off to Eastern seaboard. The Toyota LC 200 and Mountain Trail 4.7 LXV is really a great match for exploring all the nooks and crannies around Australia without the worry of something going wrong. Thanks Nick.

Was recently travelling around the Tablelands NQLD , on the way up and around Ravenshoe towing my tuned bt-50 I was blessed to help out some poor fellas and their land cruisers which had been challenged by their towing load and the altitude.
Towing my 3.2T caravan with the fam in the 6 Spd Bt-50 , in hindsight I would go buy a Ram or F-250 or something due to the full time towing life
Love both of these but I hope there is more "trucks" and greater warrenties offered in Aussie soon for the ever increasing weight on caravans haha

One thing you may not have considered, as to why such a large vehicle as the Patrol weighs so much of less than the Landcruiser, is the weights of their engines... Landcruiser has a cast iron block and weighs 372kg, the Patrol has an all alloy engine which weighs some 130kg less

I like the effort you've gone to here to ensure a level playing field and a valid comparison. No matter how well the Y62 performs (it will use slightly more fuel, but not much more) the Toyota faithful will be outraged by the comparison to their beloved, overpriced 200 series. The Y62 is simply a better full sized car, even before you factor in the substantial purchase price differential between the two, then add in significantly more maintenance costs.

@Nate Brindabella nissan dropped the ball in 2006 when instead of upgrading the td42 they dropped it. Coupled with the fact that the '04 and earlier zd30's were prone to blowing up and that is the engine it was left with then no diesel option at all in the y62 which crippled its sales across the world. In the end nissan destroyed their own fanbase/sales through out of touch business decisions which is a shame because the y62 is just as good if not better than the 200 series

In my country you will hardly ever see a Patrol anywhere but it's not hard to spot a Land Cruiser in the right places. You'll see a lot of Nissan Terras and Nissan Urvans though, so I think it's not that people here don't like Nissan, I think it's the Patrol's huge gasoline V8 that's killing sales. On the other hand the Land Cruiser's solid reputation for reliability, longevity, and resale value just puts the final nail on the Patrol's coffin.
Come on Nissan, shove a big, nice diesel in the Patrol and you'll no doubt sell a lot more of it. If you don't have a big V8 diesel then just source it from Cummins or something.

The figure for Landcruiser is wrong. As kerb weight includes the full tank of fuel, tare is only 10 litres. Either the bridge is wrong, of the kerb weight quote by Toyota is wrong.
Toyota quotes kerb weights of 2630kg for GXL and 2705kg for VX and Sahara. Either way, figures are way off. More so if tare figures are used.

Not a comment about towing. Used Landcruisers for long distance overland surveys in the Sahara to carry equipment and personnel, but took a Patrol with winch to do the grunt work, like pulling the 'Cruisers out of sand 😄. Would always pick a Patrol over a 'Cruiser for serious off-road stuff.

phil foote A worthy test, 98 is more efficient, yet pricey. The benefits still out weigh. Petrol service costs are cheaper and less frequent. A similar specs 200 effectively equates to well over 500K kms of fuel with the coin in the pocket for fuel. Also depends on how heavy footed, as that petrol V8 supercar engine is tempting to make it roar.
