Hey Mike, I have owned the QC-Mate for over a year and I agree in that it works very well. It has prevented many a curse word being spewed. I too have only had issues rarely, but when you need you will discover it's worth! Regarding your "crooked" cuts, try flipping your bar upside down and make sure all is square.
Hey Mike resharpen the side opposite that it's going towards cause the way its going is the shaper side of the chain too now and always keep an eye on your drags too to make sure that you keep them filled down cause if they are high I don't care how sharp the teeth are because it still won't cut too have a good day now
Always grabs me....America first with Mike and Melissa! No slam to other countries or channel members from outside the US. Just proud they are not afraid to show their patriotism. Thank you Morgans
Mike, noticed you alway mark your log prior to cutting, I did too until l was shown a great trick. At lest it worked well for me once I got used to it. On the left side of the saw, on the loop handle, place a zip tie sticking away from the saw. Measure from the bar to zip tie and trim it to cut length. End of zip tie at cut end and cut. No more measuring. Just a thought that worked for me. As always, enjoy your videos.
I saw Nathan using that clamp. I'm glad you did too! Another "work smarter not harder" tool. I've always strived to attain that in my work. As humans that's our duty to do that, it paves the way for the future. I love the new design Melissa, love it. Archie's picture on Melissa's channel, asleep w the ball in his mouth got a huge smile on my face, sweet. Mike, I went to Bestbuy, a shopping center for appliances, TVs, computers, stereos, etc. I walked in, maybe 15 yards in and slipped down square on my left knee. The pain was immense! They were waxing the floor and a customer moved the safety cones so I was not aware. I rolled over onto my side grappling my right side to make sure my pistol didn't come out of the holster. My right knee has 15% disability from a motorcycle wreck and because of that my left knee got overused and bothered me more than my right, so hitting it like that really put me out of commission for a few days. As we get older it's very important to not fall, lol - it just hurts so much more! Glad you're okay, I truly am. I am just so addicted to your channel and anticipating all the future projects, I can't stand the thoughts of you getting hurt or ill, so that is one of the reasons you and your family are on my prayer list. On the saw, maybe just put a new chain on it? It was nice this morning, so good to see you! Be careful and have a day! Thanks Mike. 👍🚜❤
Watched Nathan use one the other day. They sure take frustration out of the equation when a coupler is being ugly. My daughter was on track team in high school. I would go and watch Saturday meets, sit there early morning to late evening when they finished and would not know if we won or where we placed until my daughter got home. Lol. Have a great week.
Mike I saw Nathan use this last week on OTW and was really impressed. I don’t use quick couplers now but wished this had been around years ago as my knuckles would now be in much better shape. Thanks for sharing this tool tip!
Thank you! I have a KX057 with a post pounder and something about the post pounder always has so much pressure in the lines I can't get the quick couplers to plug in. Mine arrived today

@@badcat4707 Good morning BadCat! Thank you - I am getting better day by day. So very thankful the arthritis & osteoporosis pain is GONE! Hope your day goes well!
Hi Mike! I’ve had trouble releasing pressure on my mini ex. Bought one of these not long ago and was blown away!!! Never again gonna fight those couplers!! Excellent product!!!
Perfect timing on this video, specifically the Irwin quick coupler clamp. Monday I went to attached my root grapple and wasn't able to connect one of the couplers, no matter how much muscle or leverage I used it wasn't going on. Little expensive but well worth the money, can't wait to use it...
you’s are missing something, check with your manufacturer, they usually have a procedure to release hydraulic pressure either by engaging the key a wiggling the controls or a relief valve like kubota has or had, something!
Yeah, our SVL 95-2s is near impossible to hook up the hydraulics for our high flow brush cutter. I hope this will work with our forestry protection package. The cover around the couplers on the machine may be problematic for this to work, but boy if it does...it’ll be a life changer. Thank you Mike for sharing things such as this.
Good morning guys! I agree with you, spring is coming! We've got a great week shaping up here in Southeastern Pennsylvania with temperatures in the high 40s to 50 and sunshine every day, thank goodness! 🙂
Archie and Mike remain proficient with eye hand and eye mouth coordination! Old Glory, how beautifully is she displayed on your flag pole?! Mike resharpen the chainsaw blade paying close attention to consistency with filing. That fixed my problem! In Charlotte it’s all about that ice. No one drives well on it, no one! Melissa, I like this design on the Tee shirts, I’ll be ordering one! Nice video!
Hello from MN! I'm bummed I won't be able to make it to the expo for the meet and greet but MN welcomes you all the same. Thanks as always for the content!
Mike I don’t know if you did it for me but if you do did I thank you. As you know I am the one that asked for the American flag and why it was not up watching that fly over your shop makes my heart very well.
We use that quick coupler tool almost everyday out here on the job. When we change from breakers to tampers etc. Love your guy’s videos! Keep up the good work!
Melissa I love those new shirts today. I would buy one but I almost have to have a front pocket. Can't wait to see the hats. I am a cap wearing kinda guy. And a tee shirt with a pocket. LoL great video Mike! Thanks
Great video. These couplers are designed to not connect under pressure. I'm glad it's working well. The interface seals can wash out when connecting under pressure. This would most likely be a problem when the temp differential is high or if the machine was running. I do warranty work for these couplings and see the damaged interface seals on low hour machines. Again, it's good to see it working.
Love the Video!! And Yes The Stars and stripes Looks Totally Awesome Flying There At The Morgans Ranch !! Mike Glad You Didn't Hurt Yourself Falling on The Ice !! Just A Little Sore! 😊👍👊
I made a couple of those coupler attachments for my machines also. I made two types, one to push them on and another just to release the pressure. They are very handy and sure do reduce the frustration of hooking up attachments. Thanks for sharing!
@Hilderbrand Outdoors I used two of my really old flat face fittings and gutted them so the “stoppers” were taken out of them. Then I welded a 1/2” npt pipe nipple to a screw clamp from harbor freight. This way I can screw either the male or female fitting on to it and relieve the pressure on either line that is hard to push on.
Great idea with the clamp. On the Pioneer connectors on my grapple they would be impossible to connect with the internal pressure. Pioneers have a pointy center plunger that I just whap on a flat portion of the grapple, releasing the pressure and they just slide together. The flat-faced connectors for the excavator thumb is a different story. One half is fixed to the boom, the other half gets grabbed on the connector hex by a large Vice Grip, perpendicular to the fitting. I align the two connector halves then "persuade" the two halves together with a large hammer, hitting the Vice Grip only. I never needed more than two hits.
For 20 years I used machine couplers for the company that supplies Kubota. But I did pneumatic ones not the hydraulic ones. I let a guy still working there know about this video so maybe they can consider an engineering response to what you are experiencing. Shop floor people don't make a lot of headway with management but this has 'I told you so' written all over it. ❤😁
The solution is to depressurisation by turning off the machine roll the joystick controls till no more movement is in boom and dipper arm, this will release all hydraulic fluid in hose and you are good to go . No tools needed
Hello Mike. I too have trouble reconnecting quick couplers at times because of built up pressure in the system. I hold an oak dowel against the ball seal and smack it with a hammer to relieve the pressure. I've got to say though that the clamp setup is a good idea.
Mike your flag pole looks great, I really liked seeing it in the beginning of the video. Thanks for the tip on quick connectors. I will check out the link you showed. We use an excavator on the farm like you do and my Pops occasionally will disconnect one hose often when he hits the hose with a branch or small log. The hose is usually under pressure so I try to connect with no luck and get the wrench out to relieve the pressure and then I can connect it. This will work on some other cylinder connections I have that are a problem. I am glad that Hunter is ok and glad you only got a sore shoulder out of it. Ice is a bear, I am glad that most of it has melted these last couple of days. Be safe out there, farmer rod
Thanks Mike. Good idea. I've thought about making a custom coupling clamp but never got around to it. I have always just used a large pair of ChannelLocks, but the clamp looks better. I checked the price for the tool you have. It was almost $100. I think I'll opt for beam clamp from Harbor Freight and machine a set of jaws from 6061T6 aluminium in my machine shop. Thanks again! Shalom/gw
Flag is looking good!!! The QC mate looks like the Bees Knees! The weather is bound to change for the better soon, Mid Michigan hit a high of 43 today with sunshine- Made for a nice day. Your barn power source must be taking some serious abuse, if that is what the yellow cord is for? What is the plans for power to the building? Now that Jim is wrapped up, that is probably next on the list?
With the risk of repeating myself too much, your music is superb and fits the video. The wrong music can ruin things and can do the opposite if correct. Keep it up.
Thanks for sharing with us this morning Mike and Melissa. Sorry to hear about your quick ride down the steps Mike, the broken tailbone was the beginning of our son's long history of 9 major surgeries on his back and he did the same fall on slick steps too. Glad Hunter didn't fall , tell him hello from all of us. Great job explaining the coupling clamp from Irwin, already have lots of their clamps because they are great clamps. Love the new T-Shirts Melissa . I hope to get in on the Tan and Brown hat's if you get the same style you have had in the past. I just sat on my haunches too long and missed them. You all stay safe and keep up the great videos. Fred.
Another thing we do is keep the attachment ends hooked together when not in use. This will equalize any pressure build up from expansion, and keep them clean.
Hi Mike, sounds like you have sharpened one side more than the other. When i sharpen a chain i take same amount of strokes with file on each tooth. That seems to work well for me, but you certainly know more than me. Thanx for another great video!
I'm a slip, trip and fall instructor for my company. We have state of the art slip simulator at Cranberry Woods. I was teaching people how to walk on slippery surfaces.
I hope your shoulder is OK Mike. I found your channel 18 months ago whilst I was recovering from shoulder surgery after taking a fall down the granite steps off our front porch. After a couple of months I could not lift my arm to put a jacket on and I got it checked out and my rotator cuff was hanging on by a thread!
I've had a few of those wild and crazy Ice Dance moves in my career! Should say carear! What I can't figure is if you're 5'10", how the heck can you wind up falling from about 8'? Never measured it, but the force of the impact...!! One time I sat down SO hard, it actually discombobulated me!! I had fallen, and I COULDN'T GET UP! Ice water puddle, took about 20 minutes to recover coordinated movement!! Nobody saw me, so I didn't waste Emergency Squad time, thank goodness!! I was able to warm up my own bum!! Now I try to emulate Weebles, you know, they wobble but they don't fall down! Over time, I've fallen a lot. Thing is, I always bounced good! Not the ice puddle time, I hit like a sack of stuff, NO bounce!! All that just by way of saying, I sympathize and empathize!!
Mike I had a problem once like that on a hoe, some have a valve on the quick couplers and you shutt them off after you relieve the pressure and disconnect your lines. When you hook them up they told us to turn the ignition on engage the hydraulics and move your pilot controls around and it relieves any pressure and you will never have any problems hooking your quick couplers up!. Morgans good day!.
Not everyone needs the Irwin QC clamp to put on hydraulic hoses but to put on pants? Now that's another story! LOL. Melissa gets the win on this episode.
Mike, don't worry about falling down. As you get older, you get really good at it. Wait until your doctor starts asking about it. Makes a guy wonder if they teach them that in school or if they just enjoy making a man feel old. I was out harvesting some saw logs the other day, and a few had fallen in an area where the snow was waist deep. Now waist deep snow isn't all that bad, it's the tangle of brush and limbs that are under it. So, carrying a chainsaw, wedges, and an axe, I took a spill in the waist deep sugar snow. It was like falling on a feather bed! The problem was getting back up. There is nothing to support your hands as you try to get up. With one toe hooked on a limb, I had no choice but to submerge my head to allow my hands to sink down to something solid. That allowed me to unhook my toe from the limb, which made it easier to get back to my feet. Would have made a great video segment! Oh, and have you ever tried to find wedges in waist deep sugar snow? Take my advice...leave them until spring! I love your flagpole! Been wanting to put one up in my yard, and this summer might be the time to get it done. Working under the Flag on a clear breezy day is a treat indeed! Keep up the good work! Give my best wishes to Mellissa, Eva, Hunter, and all the pups!
Here's a tip for you to make hydraulic disconnects easy-to-use. With the engine off and hydraulic cylinders in a neutral state, turn ignition on and work the hydraulic control levers to relieve pressure in the lines. You won't need that gizmo. You're welcome. 😜
Growing up on a small family dairy farm we were always swapping equipment. Before disconnected anything from the remotes we put them in float. Most of the time, that worked. I would guess the scenario Mike described with temperature differential was the cause of other frustration making difficult connections. There was plenty of hydraulic oil wasted bumping the nipples on the male connections to relieve pressure.
Yep. We had machines where the hydraulics were all electrically activated and we couldn't isolate the pump from the switches so we couldn't achieve the float you're talking about but got the same effect by the faintest flick of buttons or manual controls in your instance to reduce pressure. Whatever the circuit is that's giving you trouble just flick the corresponding control in the excavator quickly in each direction and your problem is solved. No amount of swearing ever fixed the problem. I tried them all.
As long as I remember to release the pressure of my clam before I unhook the quick couplers...no problem. I leave the jaws slightly open, turn engine off, turn key to run, push parking brake button and hit the close button on my clam attachment. The jaws will slowly close and release the built up pressure. Zero problem re-hooking at a later date. Results may vary. Just MY experience with quick couplers.

Seating here in warrendale pa waiting to unload in the morning watch your video
What are you hauling?

Good Time to Install that HotTub on the Deck Magnificent Mike, Be Safe 😎👍
Get my check on thusrday hopefully
Mike, luv your videos. i was wondering if you could do a video showing us your wood stove setup?
i don’t think the guy burns wood! never seen a fire on the channel
You can flip your chain saw bar, or hold the saw upside down, lol. That coupler tool is awesome, thx for the info
SUPER LEAD IN DRONE SHOTS MIKE, ACADEMY AWARD STUFF! PIETOWN LARRY
Good morning Hunter :-) and family and friends :-) , Hey Archie ;-)
Mike, I shake the levers before I leave the cab four to five shakes is all it takes, works for me try it see if it will work for you.
I'm sure Andrew camarata showed off one of those 6 months ago. Nice.
Mike, that wood splitter for the Excavator is the Cat's Meow, great video.
Another thing that helps is to connect the two lines on the attachment to each other when it’s disconnected from the machine.

LOL at your last sentence! So true!
Spot on sir
That’s the correct way 👍
Thanks, I will try that clamp. At my age, I have arthritis in my wrists so it’s hard even when there is no pressure in the system.
If you get free time, check out the Mall of America. It's near the Airport. I was there when I went to the Prairie Island NPP. It's pretty amazing.
