    I have a 97 250 7.3. While I have my fuel filter out I have a I gallon vacuum that I vacuumed the bottom of the bowl out, there's always little pieces if junk in the bottom! I bought a attachment kit for vacuumed that's used to detail dash board, it has a little slender vacuumed attachment that gets around fuel bowl heater element and wires!! Well worth the effort!!!

    Very nice. We just pour clean fuel inside the housing and flush it all clean. This gets any debris you can't suck up. Just a little trick. Great job again. Semper Fi

    I have the older version of that motor and 1995 7-3 Powerstroke little bit different style filter but it's pretty much the same there's no drain for the bowl so you got to suck the fuel up manually would like a pump like what you have I usually just use a Shop-Vac and then before I put my new filter and I fill the bowl back up with diesel so there's no need to wait for it to be primed

    Its a great feeling when you get something for less and stretch its life and performance to "like new" standard. Just by taking PROPER care of it. Can be a great investment. This one looks that way.

    I change my fuel filter every year before we pull our camper back to the midwest. I usually use a MicroGuard filter from O'Reilly's. This time I used a Ford filter and it had that triangular gasket... It made me wonder if the top required a flatter gasket... It doesn't leak.... yet... But it has me worried.... The MicroGuard filter was only 10 micron and the Ford Motorcraft was like 4 microns? I've changed the filter top several times. Does the Ford filter require a special top? The filter didn't come with one.

    Never primed my 2000 7.3 after filter swap. Just started right up.

    • @1SqueakyWheel
      @1SqueakyWheel 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @smokey spice Not really. The later generation of 7.3PS had an electric fuel pump, which DID in fact prime easily by nature. But the first gen 7.3 powerstrokes had mechanical pumps, which really sucked if you had to prime them. The good thing about replacing the fuel filter as preventative maintenance, though, was that there was enough fuel in the rail (if there were no air leaks) that was sufficient (at least on mine anyway) to start it up and refill the bottom of the fuel bowl quickly enough to keep it running as it fully primed.
      Empty fuel lines, rails AND bowl on the mechanically pumped 7.3's though, and you're gonna be cranking for awhile.

    • @boatheadsbazzar
      @boatheadsbazzar 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah.....best to cycle and get all air out first. Only takes a second to fill the bowl THEN start... Just because you've done something and it had not caused any problems, it does not mean it's right Sun lite

    A little bit of oil on orings works good and seals. Just fuel can bunch up top oring and not make a seal and it will leak as soon as u fire it up! It sprays everywhere! Lol Go to PowerStroke Help TH-cam page! Change oil in top HOPP! That oil never returns to pan. Just gets mixed when new oil is pumped thru injectors. He shows u how to suck it out in one of his 7.3 maintenance video's.

    I ran out of diesel and now I have crank no start, fuel bowl fills and after cranking I seem the still have air in the bowl but I will bleed with the drain valve to refill and crank, repeat for like an hour… my pick up tube is shorter than I thought in my auxiliary tank and it sloshed just right to where I lost all my diesel.. time to crack injectors? Fuel bowl fills up like normal, almost sounds like injectors are getting fuel

    I've got an 2000 F350 dually, 7.3L turbo diesel. the only way it'll start is if I pump the throttle, the motor drags like a bad battery until fuel gets down into the cylinders, then it turns over easily(well a lot better). if it's hot I have to do the same thing. even if I start it and turn it back off then try to restart, still have to pump the pedal.
    I've checked both fuses and they are good, fuel pump on the rail is running. I even unplugged the plug at the top of the pedal and it'll start, but only if I pump the pedal, after starting the throttle has no response.
    any ideas as what I could check next and if so is there a test for it?
    oh, it's not throwing any codes and it has a small hesitation while driving, but clears when given more throttle.
    thanks for any reply.

      Really? I am asking about a 7.3 diesel you know. I have never heard that you can just do that. Everyone says running it out of fuel is so bad because you then need to individually bleed each injector and the bat goes dead before that happens.

Bank one is not spitting any oil and injectors are cool . I check the wiring I don't see any cracks or melting wires I have not been able to check it with a multimeter yet but have I done enough to eliminate the injectors obviously being bad and the solenoid and the harness ?IDM ?

    THIS IS A POOR DESIGN! Install a remote filter assembly that takes CAT 1R-0749 filters (bought mine on EBAY for $45), and a fuel shutoff valve to prevent prime loss when changing filters. The 2 micron Wix 33674 fits it and is a hell of a lot cheaper! (CAT $35, Wix $20).
    Use the filter mounted on your engine as a secondary filter and change 'em both at the same time. YOUR INJECTERS WILL LAST A HELL OF A LOT LONGER!

    What is the signs of dirty fuel filter and dirty air filter. I buy one F250 1993 with 7.3 turbo engine i take in mechanic replace the fluids in transmission and differentialls is tell me the air filter is okay. But because my truck do hard starting need cycle the glow plugs 4 times yesterday and one time is start only when i spray starting fuel. I take out the air filter and i see is very dirty now i wonder if fuel filter is dirty too. The truck have power but in acceleration i feel is bogging down, The person i buy the truck tell me one battery is bad. Is can be the battery for the glow plugs? For that reason my truck no start easy? In diesel engine when i turn the ignition i have to p;ress the gas pedal too? I am totally new in diesel. And anyone know what is the top speed for 7.3 turbo 1993 engine?

    • @countrykid1640
      @countrykid1640 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haralabos Lukatos what are the temps outside right now? your 93 7.3 is a idi (Indirect Injection) diesel. Its different from the 7.3 powerstroke. the 7.3 powerstroke bring DI or (Direct Injection). idi diesels can be a bit of a pain to start. If you have one bad battery it will effect how it starts for sure just because you cant crank it as fast as it should. It can make the glow plug system weak as well, along with one bad battery will kill your other good battery, so when you replace the batteries you need to do both. You can change the air filter, but in this case I dont believe its so much your air filter, as much as one weak battery will cause it to have trouble, and possibly a few wore out glow plugs. luckly, on the IDIs they are easier to change. On the powerstrokes they are under the valve covers, on IDIs they are on the outside, the only real issue you can have by changing glow plugs is if the tips are swollen they can be a bit of a pain to remove. You dont want to brake the tip off into the pre chamber. If that happens then you need to either try and use a small magnet to get it out, pull the head, or pull the injector and try and go in and get the tip out. sorry for the long reply. but if he says you have one bad battery start by replacing both batteries first and see if that helps, which it should.

      you are welcome, no problem at all...the glow plugs are clicking? you really shouldnt hear the glow plug relay clicking, normally clicking means you have 1 or more failed glow plugs/ or a problem with the relay. How long does the wait to start light stay on? does it just sit there and click off and on? also watch your volt gauge, does it bounce with the clicking?

      You are welcome too. thank you for the answers. The start light is not working. Clicking noise i hear always when i turn the key. Yes the voltage gauge is bounce with the clicking

      yes, if that holds true, then you should probably ohm out the glow plugs and see which ones are bad, or just replace all 8 and be done with it. when you decide to get them, be sure they are for your 93 7.3 idi and be sure that they are motorcraft brand. there are a bit cheaper brands, but they are known to fail early along with the tips swelling up and being difficult to remove.

    anyone know how to bleed the air out of a 2002 7.3 super duty? I changed the filter and now it doesn't start. DAMN, and it was running fine, little sluggish b4 I did this SMDH

      How I do it whenever I do filter, f-pump etc. You take the in line off the filter off clip under the hood (not completely off ,just so it will bleed when cranked, hold with a rag so you don't make a terrible mess) have someone crank and most of that air in line from f-pump whine will go away, slide forward back on with the clip and crank her a few seconds and should fire, another way to try that works is turn key on and wait 30 secs and do that 6-7 times and should start, let it idle until all bubbles are gone and truck running good, try this first and if does not start go to what i began with(filter bleed) good luck!!

      A.J. Towin cycling the key twice should be enough to purge all the air out of filter housing back through the return line

    Canadians are awesome! But they don’t mix with diesels because of the emission laws.....America doesn’t either but it is not as bad...yet.
