Excellent video. Trying to diagnose my son's 7.3. crank no start, I'll have him check powers and grounds. Fuse #22 big 30 amp, no power at either side of fuse, any thoughts?
Had my 96 7.3 die on the highway... fuel bowl heater shorted out and blew the 30a fuse. Replaced fuel bowl heater and fuse and fired right up. The old heater used a looped wire which broke loose and caused the short.

Excellent troubleshooting video. My truck was running fine when I shut it off 2 years ago. Upon starting it recently, it started, ran rough and died. Now, no start. The ICM was full of water, swapped it out. Replaced the cam position sensor, fuel filter, IPC, and put a gauge on the HPOP. Finally towed it to a diesel shop, and 6 weeks later, I owe more than the truck is worth, and it still isn’t running. They’re telling me that it needs 2 injectors, and if one stops up, it can prevent fuel,from getting to all of the injectors. Am I being had by this shop?
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair in all fairness, it was I who replaced the parts before I finally decided to take to someone else. The Injector Control Module was full of rain water, so I condemned it. The IPC, cam sensor were cheap enough, and the fuel filter had 148k miles on it. I talked at length with the mechanic yesterday. He was a Ford tech for a dozen years, and trained other techs on the 7.3, 6.0, and the 6.6. I was impressed by his knowledge and thoroughness, but the bottom line is we’ve spent a lot of money and it still does not run. The only parts that don’t check out at 100% are 2 injectors (#4 and #6). Right now, I’m waiting for the shop manager to come back from vacation so we can agree on a not-to-exceed repair cost. The no-start condition is being blamed on the tank of bio-fuel that has now been in the tank 4 years. I didn’t know that bio-fuel has the same issues as ethanol gasoline when it sits too long.
I ran my 96 out of fuel and was able to get it to start yesterday but I had loss of power and then turned off. I charge the batteries and now I have a crank but no start. Could this possibly be my issue as well?
Your story follows mine, except that I have a power/ground failure. The PCM is not sending the enable signal to ground the ground side and power the IDM. Is there anything other than a blown PCM that can keep a good PCM from enabling the IDM?
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair that was the first thing I checked. Connection fine. Inspected the PCM board. Except for some rubber coating that's peeling away in places, nothing looks or smells burned. Already ordered a new PCM from Rockauto, but feel like that's a flip of the coin. I am just wondering how smart the PCM is, and if it would inhibit the IDM if it detected say, a short in one of the sensors or driven outputs. And be perfectly fine otherwise. I also wonder how easily its programming gets corrupted.
How to you test the 12v supply side of the injector driver for a shorted driver with a test light? I connected the test light to battery positive and and touched the test light to injector driver 12v supply to injectors. The test light was flickering. I know the light should only flicker on the control side when the pcm pulls them to ground. But it shouldn't flicker on the supply side, positive to positive should it? Did I do this right? Have I confirmed supply side injector driver shorted? Need a second opinion to confirm I did this test right please.

The injector module relay number 303 in my 2002 Ford F350 diesel lariat is buzzing very loudly and the truck won’t start should I replace the relay or head towards the module itself time sensitive
why is testing the injectors next when it cranks and no start? can there be elec problems or good pressure at the fuel bowl but maybe fuel not getting to injectors, and if the orings are bad on injectors wouldnt the oil be thinner and fuel in oil??
I have a 7.3... had the same problems. I replaced the cam shaft sensor twice...second time I used a ford part. Didn't fix my problem.... I replaced the ICP sensor and it would not start. Put the old one back in and it started, but ran rough. Swapped the bad sensor, put it in and it ran like a charm. The next day the truck would not start. Any idea what could cause this? I am going to try yet another sensor for the ICP. This blows my mind how it worked yesterday and not today. Thank you in advance
Hip Airbrush you should check your injection pressure, sounds like you might have a defective IPR or bad high pressure oil pump... get a pressure gauge and install it on the ICP sensor opening, crank the engine and see what kind of pressure you get

Ok I checked all the fuses I have 5 that I have zero power to on either side of the fuse I don't know how to check relays and I have 4 in the fuse box and 2 under the hood on top of the drivers side front fender that I have found so far and looked for bad or chewed wires and haven't found any

Marcus Lopez did you replace the PCM? if yes, why did you replace it? you can start by check powers and ground at the pcm, to see if it's been powered!!!
@@cub862001 most vehicles only have one light, it's either the check engine light or the service engine soon light, if the check engine light is on it means the engine computer is most likely been turned on, was the new PCM calibrated or programmed?

Hey i hava a question i have a 7.3 that only 4 injectors has power. The other 4 injectors that are in the passenger side that harness dosent have power what can it be and is not the valve cover harness 8 injectors are new. I change both computer too and still doing the same thing
Melody Carrero it sounds like you have a wiring issue, check power and ground at the IDM, if you have power and ground for the injectors at the module , you should also have it at the heads, on both sides... be careful checking those wires, there is 200v on them/ the other possibility would be the module itself,
Danny Swanger you could have a failing IPR or a fail injector module as well, and list can go on and on and on, so I recommend you take your truck to a pro mechanic so they can diagnose it!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair yes CEL is on the pcm is fully functional glow plugs kick on everything works and I added about a gallon of oil but but nothing but interesting has oil pressure, rpm is visible, bowl fills back up
@@MrMsMexican that's weird, disconnect the Injection pressure sensor on the driver side cylinder head and crank it with the sensor disconnected and see what happens, if that doesn't help, crack the fuel lines going to each cylinder head on the back of the engine next to the turbo then crank the engine, fuel should come out of those lines while you're cranking it... Good luck, let me know what you find

My 7.3 it was my idm. Mine retained water. Got a new one and it’s been working. I had the ford dealership test it and they did fix it. IDM replaced 😊

i got a bluetooth OBDII adapter and forscan on my iphone to be able to do some of the diesel specific tests and view data to/from the PCM & sensors.

did your scanner hook up to OBD1 or OBD2 port. i thought OBD2 was 96 and newer?

sean sarti if the check engine light doesn't come on when you turn the key on, you should check the the PCM fuses, and powers and grounds at the PCM

@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair yes CEL is on the pcm is fully functional glow plugs kick on everything works and I added about a gallon of oil but but nothing but interesting has oil pressure, rpm is visible, bowl fills back up
@@MrMsMexican that's weird, disconnect the Injection pressure sensor on the driver side cylinder head and crank it with the sensor disconnected and see what happens, if that doesn't help, crack the fuel lines going to each cylinder head on the back of the engine next to the turbo then crank the engine, fuel should come out of those lines while you're cranking it... Good luck, let me know what you find
