Thanks Shaun! 85mph!!! I know it can outshift the Mavics but crikey!! As for the anemomomeneter 😂- Well now you know where to get one! Looks like there's an extra 6% off on amazon.es as well as my 10%! All the best! 🖖
New to your channel, but have to say how enjoyable you make learning about drones and all that goes with themthem. Hubby and I are having such a grand time watching! Thank you so much!
Aww that's so nice to hear - thankyou! 💗Say hi to your hubby for me. Oh - and one word of advice - only watch my early stuff if you're having trouble sleeping 🤣🖖
Excellent! Thankyou - it’s a good little unit and I’m still using mine. So much better than ultra cheap ones, but still good value! And thanks for watching as well!🖖
I was flying all ok at ground level but when I got up high It told me wind speed was too high so I just kept below that height. There was 10% already off plus your code made it even cheaper :)
0:51 I noticed there's a flag near your house; I prefer using the flag to know the weather. Wet flag: it's raining Still flag: no wind Waving flag: a little windy Ripping flag: very windy Yellowing flag: very hot Frozen flag: very cold Foolproof! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm just kidding mate, another super funny and useful video from you, thanks Amok! 🖖 Ahhh, I think it would be worth making a video talking about the accessories you use.
😂Thanks Ian - but I think you missed one : No flag: there are thieves about, so best not get your expensive drone out 🤣 On the accessories - funny you should say that - I do have a 'what's in my bag video' planned. Keeping it up my sleeve for when the weather's not so good 👍 Thanks as alway! 🖖
wind speed for me depends where I am. If I am in a open field... for the most part I don't worry about it. If I am over a forest or ocean, I definitely do!
Cheers buddy - yeh - it's pretty good - and for something that I only occasionally use is a nice compromise between affordability and the rubbish cheap little one I got which doesn't seem to be able to measure the windspeed above 4m/s. Thanks for watching and the comment !🖖
Oh - If ONLY it was that simple! Turns out me cheekily asking for an extra unit to use in a giveaway for my viewers opened up a massive can of worms! You wouldn't believe the hoops that you have to jump through to keep YT happy and also the government happy with gaming laws etc!. I will be doing the giveaways soon (ish) once I've sorted all of that out/ I have a 'What's in my bag?' vid planned for when the weather gets rubbish and will probably do it then. In the meantime - lick your finger and stick it in the air (but for god's sake wash it first! 🤣) Thankyou for watching, subscribing and for your interest - it really means a lot! - all the best!! 🖖
Thankfully filming at the top of a convex hill reduces wind speed by a factor of tenty. Or something like that. When I got the first Mini drone, I took it out in the strongest storm in decades. Thankfully Central Pier stopped my drone flying away. When I say stopped, I mean it smashed into the pier. Who’s a silly Billy?😂
😂 these things happen - gotta push the envelope for spectacular results - that’s what DJI refresh is there for! And I’m pretty sure they get a good ROI with all the free advertising! Thanks as always Frank! 🖖
Yeh - it’s pretty resilient to the wind, but to get anything useful out of the footage you really need a calm day. Not doing myself any favours here but with the Neo you will just ‘know’ if it’s too windy. Have fun!🖖
I always take off next to major airports as they have wind socks 😂, only kidding !! 😊 think it’s a handy looking little device 👍 I actually fly model rockets as well as drones so I’m really into wind speed and direction 👍
@@amoktimeflies 🤣yeh can get some excellent shots of model rockets with a drone 👍 unfortunately some of the bigger ones can end up half mile away (no return to home on a rocket🤣) the drone is also excellent for chasing a parachute . Often thought I should start a channel rockets and drones , except I haven’t a scoobie about editing footage 🙈
@ianjones6838 well I didn’t before starting this channel, but everything I’ve learnt, I’ve learnt from TH-cam channels. - if you check out my channel page there are links to the channels of some ‘editing gods’ on there🖖
@@amoktimeflies okey-dokey I’ll give it a look, thanks for your efforts . I’ll be keeping an eye out for your next video, have a neo waiting back home when I fly home from the USA next week 👍
But what's the point of this thing if the wind at 10m up, 30m up and 100m up are drastically higher? - similar to a windmill, putting one on your roof will generate next to no energy, but 10m will be 10x more and 30m up will be like 100x more.
Thanks for the question Digi! If you know what the wind speed is at ground level, then using the rule of thumb, you can estimate what the wind speed is higher up. If you don't know what the wind speed at ground level is at all then it's very difficult to tell. At the end of the day it's personal preference whether you use one or not - personally before I got one I know for a fact that I was missing out on flying days because I thought it *looked* too windy - this is just an aid to help people out really 😊. Cheers! 🖖
@@amoktimeflies hmm can you? I need to look more into this, I was under the impression it’s just different at altitudes seemingly regardless of what’s at ground level. I use UAV app at the moment but even way above safe levels the drone seems to do fine, other than throwing warnings on the screen 🙈 I’ve seen videos of a person trying to bring down a much weaker drone, a DJI spark with a leaf blower and failing. This gives me more confidence than is probably sensible heh.
Indeed - I think DJI like to cover themselves by stating the lower end of what's *actually* safe - probably to cover themselves because of people that don't realise that the wind speed increases the higher up you go. UAV Forecast is kindof OK - especially the 'forecast' aspect of it, but I have found that reliance on the 'live' readings is not necessarily *always* an accurate reflection of where I actually am - and that's not surprising - I mean it's not *magic* !🤣 Good discussion bud! Thankyou!👍🖖
My main focus was on wind resistance when i picked my Mini 2 upgrade. That's why i chose the Air 3 over the Mini 4 Pro. The Air is great in the wind. I'm sure the Mini 4 Pro is good in high winds but the Air 3 is idiot proof in wind and I'm most definitely in the idiot category.
Yep - the Air 3 is a beast in the wind, the only thing with it is that at least in the UK it’s not quite as flexible with where you can fly, even with the A2 CofC or Article 16. Thanks for watching!🖖
Well yeh - that's fair enough, but is google actually where you are standing? Believe me - in the business I'm in, I know that algorithms are pretty clever (I've written few myself), but they are no substitute for up to the minute 'on the ground, up to the minute' physical metrics. Enjoyed the thought provoking comment (wow this subject is getting a lot of discussion going! 😂) Sincerely though - Thanks for watching!🖖
Hi Frank - just got home from work and it was the first thing I checked. It's definitely working for amazon.com - there's also a 5% coupon as well! so a total of $4.50 off... There have been about half a dozen orders in the US and I've not heard of any other issues, but if it persists then please feel free to take a screenshot of your checkout (with the appropriate scrubbing out of personal data!) and email it to me at amoktimeflies@gmail.com and I'll be happy to forward it to my contact at TOPTES for further investigation. pointless gadget. the wind speed changes at different height. this is not going to help when you flying at 50 ft height. mini drone can handle most winds . obviously if its gale force then not worth flying. this looks more like a sales pitch then actual use of the product.
I think it's a great gadget especially if starting out in the hobby to help with confidence, then eventually yes, you just kindof 'get to know' when it's too windy. As I said in the video, if I thought it was rubbish I probably wouldn't have made the video and would have sent it back. As far as altitude is concerned, you obviously have to use common sense, but you can use that rule of thumb to work out roughly what the wind speed is likely to be at altitude.... but as I said in the video it's "*almost* foolproof". All feedback is appreciated though! so thanks for watching & for the comment 🖖
