    • @HickoryDickory86
      @HickoryDickory86 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@kyriakos232 Except that you have a very anemic, particularly modern, Western understanding of what Christianity teaches about soteriology and eschatology. In traditional Christian theology, salvation is theosis, man's deification by grace. The Prophet Daniel says the righteous will live everlastingly and shine like the stars forever (Daniel 12:1-3), Christ Jesus says we will be like the angels in that we will never die again (Luke 20:34-36), the Apostle Peter says we are being made partakers of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4), and the Apostle Paul and Christ Jesus say that the faithful do now and in the future will sit with Christ on the Father's throne in the heavens (Ephesians 2:4-7; Revelation 3:21).
      Scriptural, traditional Christian soteriology and eschatology do not teach that we die, fly off to an ethereal heaven, and boringly float around with harps in an endless sky-blue void with clouds forever. Rather, the Eschaton is a renewal, recreation, and glorification of the whole cosmos (Acts 3:18-21; 2 Peter 3:1-13), whereby the physical, mortal cosmos is purified, glorified, and joined with the spiritual cosmos (Revelation 21:1-8).
      All human beings will be raised in glorified physical bodies (1 Corinthians 15). Our bodies, like Christ's own resurrection body (who, after his resurrection, could cook and eat, but also could appear out of thin air in a locked room) will at once be like and unlike the one we possess now, and will at once be familiar and unfamiliar (like how Jesus could go unknown and unperceived as himself by the disciples who knew him prior to his dead, until he chose to be perceived and opened their eyes to recognize him). And so the glorified Eschatological cosmos-which will be suffused with the uncreated energies of God (1 Corinthians 15:28; Colossians 1:9-20)-will at once be like and unlike the cosmos we know now, familiar and unfamiliar. It will be a similar but completely renewed and perfected universe in which there will no longer be death, decay, corruption, cruelty, etc.
      And then, of course, there will also be the eternally incomprehensible God, with whom we will be in intimate communion and fellowship. Consider the vastness of the universe itself, and how we have barely even begun to explore, know, and understand it. And it has its limits. Then consider that there is an eternal and infinite (limitless) God who created that universe, and that he desires communion and fellowship with us. If it has taken us this long to explore and discover what little we do know of the universe we presently have, and each new discovery and advancement we make is hailed with such ecstatic joy and enthusiasm, how much more joy and enthusiasm will we have exploring and discovering new things about the perfected and glorified cosmos, and especially about the eternal God who renewed and perfected it?
      Basically, think of the whole human experience, remove all evil, pain, suffering, and death, leaving only the good, the beautiful, the joyous, the wondrous, etc. Then magnify those things by infinity, waiting to be experienced by deified humans in true and perfect fellowship with their God who loves them. That is the Christian hope and expectation.

    The Mythic Dawn may not be a daedra cult. The Deadlands DLC introduces the idea that Dagon's cults are Magnus worshipers who will follow Dagon as Magnus' agent to unmake his flawed creation of Mundus.

      I could see the 2 being entwined together at times, although of course there are many who worship Dagon who aren't affiliated with Magnus, but there'd definitely a connection
      Lorkhan ruined everything, but Magnus still wants to put his 900 IQ to work and make what he and the other Et'Ada wanted to way back in the Dawn Era. Lorkhan placed his lies and then Magnus left his creation, unfinished and Tainted by too much Padomaic essence and not enough Anuic

    The Aedra being lesser or weaker than the Daedra is a very common misconception. The Aedra gave up their personhood to embody the literal laws of physics of mundus itself. The Daedra, while keeping their personhood, can only influence Mundus from the outside, and are not only bound by the Aedra in the ammount and way they wish to influence Mundus, but require champions from Mundus in order to enact their wishes and manipulations.
    In that regard, the Daedra are infinitely more dependant and flawed, than the Aedra could ever be.

      True, the Aedric Et'Ada, whether willing like the Atmoran Pantheon or unwilling like my poor Aldmeri Pantheon, or a mix of both like the Yokudan Pantheon, were all entwined and their Spheres are also part of the Mundus.
      Get rid of Auriel and Time shatters and is no longer there to keep Order and Structure to the Aurbus. Get rid of Lorkhan and the realm looses the Space and partly Mortality as well. No Magnus and a lot of Earthbones suddenly shift since he was the Architect of the place, etc.
      Lots to think about. But the Mer would rather just vibe in Aetherius understandably, since there's not much order to the place, and they're Old Ehlnofey, meaning more Anuic, and so on and so forth with Man being more Chaotic.
      But yeah, all Aedra, willing or lied too, far more important than the Daedra that only somewhat uphold the Spheres. Yes they can influence them well but if they're not there it only means less depth to whatever they embody. Some of them like Molag aren't needed at all, Meridia is helpful/can be useful, Vaermina is 50/50, Clavicus isn't needed unless you wanna trade something big, Sanguine is chill but Dibella is safer, etc

    • @MrYelly

    Hope is a powerful tool. For most people when they reach their goal from what they hoped for, they stop hoping. For a being that is the primordial sense of hope, it never will end. Like a hunger that cannot be satisfied. If Dagon had won the day instead of being thwarted, he would of eventually turned on his followers to overthrow them and it would be a continued cycle.

    I love the Mythic Dawn, I have been working on some way to explore interpreting the Mythic Dawn Commentaries for awhile and it has led me down a lot of very interesting rabbitholes. Off the top of my head, there are a few additional things I would like to throw out there to add onto what you said.
    The most important thing is that y'all totally forgot to mention how important the Magna Ge are in the Mythic Dawn! Their pantheon goes beyond Lord Dagon and it seems that worship of the Magna Ge is part of the path to Paradise. "I give my soul to the Magna Ge, sayeth the joyous in Paradise, for they created Mehrunes the Razor in secret, in the very bowels of Lyg, the domain of the Upstart who vanishes." (Mythic Dawn Commentaries 3) and "But for it the Crusades would be as my lord's Creation, Get by the Ge and do as thou wilt, of no fetters but your own conscience! " (Mythic Dawn Commentaries 4) point to this.
    I know there isn't much to go on just with that about a specific pantheon, but there are other elements we can see that give evidence to how this manifested in worship and the significance if it. The use of a Great Weykland stone to open the gate to Paradise shows a ritual use of starlight for example, and given how the 4 items used relate to Oblivion (Great Sigil Stone and Daedra blood) and Aetherius (the Weykland stone and Aedra blood) and how chim and Nu-Mantia are intertwined in the Commentaries I would say that gives the impression that they are seeking to sort of go back up to the source before the dualities and such whose interplay creates that emanated chain of being that is the universe in the Elder Scrolls.
    Anyways, something else: the Ritual of Want is super interesting when you read into it. It's sort of like a baptism in the sense of a purification and rebirth sort of thing where you symbolically kill your old identity and become reborn as a Dagonite. There are symbolic references to the overthrow of Molag Bal and his murder that basically broke that kalpa with the use of dreugh hides and the incancation talking about breaking bones upon the rocks and all. So it is sort of can be seen like a microcosm of breaking the overall time cycle by first breaking from the personal cycles that you are attached to and emptying your mind to open up to pure revolutionary energy a la Dagon. You can't be working towards breaking time itself if you're all caught up with celebrating holidays or working at the forge or whatever.
    It also seemingly seems like you are basically symbolically becoming Ruma Camoran. He describes the ritual of want "as a birth watched by blackbirds", which alludes his first daughter who Mankar Camoran seemingly ate: "Falter now and become one with the wayside orphans that feed me. Follow and I shall adore you from inside. My first daughter ran from the Dagonite road. Her name was Ruma and I ate her with no bread, and made another, which learned, and I loved that one and blackbirds formed her twin behind all time." This idea of consuming something of impure for what is pure is also evoked in a more academic sense when discussing the aedra and connected with this idea of learning from your misteps to ascend. I am pretty sure basically this means you are sort of symbolically killing your old identity, in analogy to how Mankar killer and ate his daughter (maybe symbolically?), and then celebrating your rebirth as a Dagonite on the new Ruma's birthday. Pretty freaking metal. It also feels like "Raven Camoran" and the idea of the twin of blackbirds should be related, but I am not exactly sure how?
    I'll avoid going into the relationship to real life religous and philosophical ideas like thelema, buddhism, and egoist anarchism, or more of the interesting ideas in the Commentaries and the Ayleid connection, but yah honestly the Commentaries are kind of a masterpiece that I have been dissecting for a couple years now. My goal is to organize those ideas into a video and watching some videos on this channel has definitely helped me deepen my appreciation of the Elder Scrolls and gave me some insights on my favorite fictional new religious movement. Thanks a ton ✌

    What I live about the daedra is this implication that becoming daedric is to have a more physical presence than an aedra because all they are is unchecked ego. Their realm is all their ego their limitations and freedoms start and end with their ego. It might just be a game contrivance but I feel two daedric princes can't exist in the same oblivion realm or another's daedric realm because it is their own metaphysical mind. Except on nirn because right now it's like an open server with no real admin , cause the admin died but left his computer running forever next to a bunch of wierd kids with no internet at home

      I don't know if you can have a more physical presence than becoming the essence of magic itself, like Julianos. Within mundus, he is present everywhere, at all times. Or to become time itself, like Akatosh.
      In comparison, the Daedra are a bunch of outsiders who are looking in through the windows, desperately praying they can have a seat at the table someday...Or at least knock the table over.

    • @OgieSifter
      @OgieSifter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrYelly it all depends on the intelligent life on nirn. Julianos and the aedra are more elemental spirits. Any expression of will or act taken is a result of a second party witnessing and molding the phenomenon around their perception(most time it's the observers will that is the catalyst for the phenomenonat all). Not having a physical body and desolation of the ego, that's their physical limitation. Daedra had a more spiritual limitation that affects their physical.
      This might also be contrivance for game mechanics, but i think with the more liberty the daedra have to move about nirn the more consistent their form to their choosing when they invade, but it depends on the image of what the local mental bandwidth perceives you as. It doesn't have as much power over the daedra as it does with aedra since their own will is there to essentially metabolize the incoming mental projection back into their core personality.

    • @MrYelly
      @MrYelly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@OgieSifter Sorry, but no. Aedra are not elemental spirits, they embody the laws of physics and the shape of mundus.
      Julianos is not an elemental spirit, he is the literal embodiment of magic. Every single Daedric artifact is dependant on his domain, or doomed to lose their effects, power and relation to their daedric prince.
      The only Aedra that could sort of be compared to an elemental spirit, would be Kynareth, as her domain literally entails all the elements.
      Daedra cannot "move about nirn (mundus)", as they are by very definition, not a part of nirn in any way. Looking in from the outside, they require mortal champions in order to influence or exert any type of manipulation or power within nirn.
      Just read up on the Dragonfires. Not a single Daedric prince can enter nirn by their own choice, or true form. In every case of a daedric invasion, the portals were opened by cultists, from the side of Nirn. (Battlespire)
      For example, without Arkay (the aedra that embodies the cycle of life and death, mortality in general) Neither Hircine nor Meridia would have been as invested with Mundus as they are now, as their entire domains are dependant on Arkay and his very creation (conception) of mortality.
      The entire joke is that Daedra mock the Aedra, while seething with nothing but envy, and the inherent wish to meddle with the world that they would never admit wanting to be a part of.

    Dawn is Breaking! I love the feeling of this cult, and used some mods and ended up taking over the Mythic Dawn, became the Potentate and set the way for a new Mythic Era, in worship of the Prince of Destruction on an Empire-Wide level. I could literally kill people on the street and guards wouldn’t set a bounty, they would just come to wish me a good day.

    One of the issues I really have with Elder Scrolls is that the mortals are always in a pretty severe disadvantage when it comes to the Daedra. Like here are these beings with near infinite power that randomly decide to ruin someones life and the only safeguard against them are the Divines who literally can't do much because they're too weak. I would like it if future games made it a bit more even.

    I'm thinking about the whole Akatosh and Alduin thing... vs Dagon, it may just have been a natural response: the Dragonfires are lit and Dagon tries to invade = intervention. But with Alduin, I am wondering if Alduin deviating from his intended purpose (ruling rather than devouring) and Akatosh (or AKA) intervenes because Alduin needs a 'hard reset', or because Akatosh wants the kalpa to continue. Why just this one is anyone's guess.

      Actually, he is also the god of ambition and change; chaos and destruction are frequent side-products of change, but aren't the point. Reminds me of the way the Shadows were described in contrast to the Vorlons on Bablylon 5 - The Vorlons are like your parents who want to keep you safe and secure, follow the rules; the Shadows want you to go out in the galaxy and make a noise - break things (planets, etc.) if you need to in order to obtain your ends.

    Its not that crazy to think that the dragon blood can be thinned out which is why there arent a bunch of potential dragon emperor heirs everywhere. Especially since as far as we know the Septims dont practice incest like real world royalty or Targaryns do. Also its not too insane to think that the Emperor had no siblings or uncles as even Tiber Septim only had one kid who then went on to only have one kid so its not that insane

    So it goes that Djinn use highly advanced tech when they do their stuff as "Making Gold" is just rearranging atoms, making someone have lovers is reorganizing women chemical structures and pretty all they do can be done if you had a souped up, unrestricted subnatica crafter basically.
    Despite being all "powerful" their influences are less impactful then a fart sometimes. To mortals it scary but the moment your peephole of reality opens up, it not that much.
