"TemTem (the Pokemon-Like MMO) is NOT what I thought" - and that's fine! You know what else is fine? You. Because you hit those 'Like' and 'Subscribe' buttons, right?
omfg I was watching you and my niece came into my room and said oh ur watching our 2nd cousin and I'm like what are you on about and then showed me a photo dude I had no idea I was related to you I knew I had a family member with a youtube channel but I had no idea it was you such a small world
I love Tim Tams! They're such a great tasting chocolate biscuit that's commonly found in Australia. Better than Oreos and Penguin Biscuits in my opinion!
FintanSky listen, I don’t like temtem, it takes too much from Pokémon, but it’s not a full on Pokémon rip off, it has subtle differences, they may be small, but they are there
The levels that Temtems evolve actually depends on what level you get them. If a Temtem evolves after 20 levels and you catch it at level 5, it'll evolve at level 25. But if you catch it at level 20, it'll evolve at level 40.
@@scooterboi8296You could look at it that way shure. I like the sysyem myself people just whine that it's too pokémon like and then they whine that the should not have changed mechanics. In some ways it can't win really. People will complain either way.
@@abcgaming8938 quicker to evolve, yes, but quicker to have them battle ready? no. unless they have drastically changed xp scaling in the last couple weeks, it'd take SEVERAL hours grinding wild encounters to get a level 5 to 25. I have 36 hours in game, highest level was given to me in the story, my highest achieved naturally is only 36 and most of the temtem in my party are still 25-28, while wild encounters are level 32-35 and trainers are summoning 37-44. It's a terrible balance overall between xp scaling, battle scaling (giving you a fair fight for the rate of progress into the game), and a terrible evolution system. In order for me to evolve a 20 level evolution temtem, it would cause me to grind for almost 10 hours, assuming no server crashes or lag, and have them a feasibly battable creature based at where I am in the game, probably almost 20 hours just for one temtem that in about another hour of gameplay is going to require yet another 5-10 hours for xp grind just to get caught back up. It's like the devs want you to invest 300 hours of training in order to progress 50 hours into the game story. It doesn't matter how much you like it, it's still a terrible system. You and your partner have a baby, it's a full fledged adult after 18 years. If you adopt an 8 year old into your family, because s/he was 8 when they entered your family, are they not considered adults until they're 26?? The way I view evolutions in games like this are as a creature's physical maturity; for example, Charmander is a baby/infant/toddler, Charmeleon is a pre-teen/teenager, and Charizard is a fully matured, fully adult beasty. So for them to say "20 levels from WHEN you get them" is just a kick to the balls both for the trainers (or tamers, in this case) as well as the creatures themselves, denying them of full maturity for seemingly forever.
"Temtem that kind of reminded me of Bulbasaur" Ummm, that's a turtwig my dude. Edit: ok yes we know that he edited “or turtwig” in the vid I I did not see it when I first made this comment.
TemTem don't evolve at a given level like they do in Pokemon. They evolve after you've leveled them X levels for that specific TemTem. So, it's more beneficial to catch lower leveled TemTem and level them up as it'll be quicker to evolve them. It's an intentional mechanic in the game and one of the things that differentiates it from Pokemon.
No wait you mean they actually encourage you to actually keep the pokemons you caught when you first started out and not switch them out as fast as you can like trash the first five minutes? I’m game
I think changing the battle system in these monster collector games is probably a make or break thing, especially if you're attracting disgruntled Pokemon fans -- IMO turned based battles where moves has to use a pool rather than each move having a pool is an interesting twist.
I believe that the first comment was in reference to the fact that, yes they've implemented changes that add a great deal of strategic depth, but it's still a turn based RPG with stationary combatants. There are plenty of games that they could have looked to for inspiration to further diffentiate the combat, for instance: FF VI - real time combat elements Mario + Rabbids - grid based arenas Mega Man Battle Network - real-time grid based battles (I think, I've only ever seen brief clips of the battle system on TH-cam).
@@gowzahr I mean you could argue Temtem's style seems similar to Mario and Luigi's, each having Bro Points to use their special attacks. Turn based style is a MUST though, I feel; real time may be a turn off for many, although a "rush bonus" where you can do extra damage using real time commands could be interesting.
I agree that the lack of quest log is dumb and also the lack of player interaction is limited as well. But I do find that the battles and writing is much better than Pokemon as well as the setting out systems. The big plus in battles is the stamina meter but also how you don't have to run to a Pokecenter every five minutes when grinding and also that as your Temtem evolve and get more skills you keep the skills as hot swapable that can be used at any time. This game is a gem that will only get better with time and constructive ideas.
You mean that they gradually recover battle stamina, like syenergy from "golden sun"? That is really cool, because that definitely means what u just said about it.
I love Pokémon, so I was all over Temtem when it launched. I regret not taking part in the Kickstarter campaign, somewhat. Knowing it was unfinished is a given as it says early access when you buy it. I just want more of Pokémon, but different. That's what this gave me, and knowing it will be updated and content will be added is a bonus to having come in early. I've been busy as of late, so I haven't played more than two hours, and am already happy with my purchase and look forward to seeing where this game will be in 6 months, one year, and two years in! It hasn't dampened my enjoyment of Pokémon Sword, I still preordered the expansion, still went in on HOME when it launched, etc. Its just an alternative for when I may burn out on Pokémon.
@@narutofan2312 When I saw the game's trailer, I thought it looked amazing, but when I saw that when it loses in battle and you don't return to the exact spot it died it's soul disappears, my positive opinion was immediately shot down.
Eh a game where the devs don't give a damn abotu the players and which had a much better campgaign than what they clearly spent on the game thus far I'd say doesn't need MORE money. I get that you like the game but hey you're going to have to spend more money anyway when the updates come in. And you can still support it by buying the game for OTHER people if you're so desperate to throw money away on TEmtem. It's not that hard.
Temtem was inspired by Pokemon which was inspired by Shin Megami Tensei which is a continuation of Megami Tensei on the NES which is an adaptation of a book series in 1987 called Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei
The irony here is that the "feel like I should stop playing because I'll have to start over when they finish it" feeling is EXACTLY what Pokemon had been doing for years with the second releases of each generation and why I'm grateful for this gen having continuation DLC instead.
yeah lets be grateful of devs tearing out content that should have been in the game in the first place. YESI LOVE unfinished games and excuse as to why it did it in the first place. Have we all forgotten DLC is meant to "expand" not "add" what should have been there. Do not be grateful otherwise they will gut content more and sell it back if any other company did it we would all hate it. Since it is Pokemon we are "grateful" o.-
@@Balbaneth I mean, you can be all snarky about it, but this has been common practice with Pokemon for 20+ years at this point. From day one the games have been unfinished and they release a secondary version that finishes it up. Gen 1 to now. So yes, I'd rather be happy that they adopted a new release style that doesn't require me to start over and play the same game again to access new content.
@@EposVoxThat's not true at all. You can definitely argue that games like Yellow or Emerald or Platinum didn't add enough new content to make it worth replaying the game, but red/blue and ruby/sapphire weren't "unfinished" and the new games didn't "finish" them.
Hi so this video might make you think it's pokemon it's not it's totally different and you can interact with others who are not already connected but it's in order to play together you have to invite in game kind of like in elder scrolls online
Jonesso Pokemon is made by an exceptionally reputable company with an absolutely massive fan base though. Temtem is made by a relatively unknown developer and isn’t even finished yet. They aren’t comparable in value. Temtem SHOULD cost considerably less than Pokemon.
@@jpsnyds753 Nah this is a dumb comment. The game is early access and if they gave it away free for early access which means everyone who downloads it owns it... Then basically it would just be a free game from beginning to end. Releasing the game as an actual game will probably cut down on the micro transactions. This game it 100 percent worth the money and this video is 3 months old they must have added a lot since then and its mechanics are smooth and crisp.
@@deepsilver999 No game quality should determine price not it being a brand name. The pocketbook doesn't have to be guuchi to be well made and at some point you are paying for the name guuchi and not the quality. Plus pokemon has released many sub-par games lately... I mean sword and shield were good and I enjoyed them myself, but this game gives a whole new fresh feel to the creature fighting game genre and I think it is worth 35 and when it goes up in price and is a finished game it will be worth that too. The only thing a bit annoying is the games need for me to gender people sometimes, like idc this is a monster fighting game I don't wanna guess a strangers gender. I will go with sex every time until a character specifies what they wanna be called and I still won't care cause they are fake people and keeping fake peoples gender pronouns straight is a waste of my time. It is at least too often I can see one or two character in three islands saying something but I think it has come up 4 times now and I am not paying much attention like... I don't greet people with hello .... 1) sir 2) ma'am 3) themself. It is certainly worth way more than Sun and Moon though... Which were well made games that kept disrupting game play with cut scenes and hid all the unique creatures behind odd discovery methods. TemTem knows mostly what the player base wants and did a solid job of implementing most of what they could.
@@patrickbacher7881 I completely agree that a game's price SHOULD be determined by its quality, but unfortunately the fact of the matter is, Nintendo can afford to charge a premium price because millions of people WILL buy their games at $60. Given that TemTem is so unknown, regardless of the quality of the game (which despite having some great innovations, still lacks a lot of the polish of a AAA game, even Pokémon) most people wouldn't be willing to take a gamble on a game they aren't guaranteed to enjoy. Whereas with Pokémon, despite its many flaws (of which there are plenty, I know) almost everyone who buys is going to enjoy it, even if just for the pedigree, nostalgia and charm alone! Not trying to argue, I agree with many of your points! Have a good day :)
Ok so I’ve put like 100ish hours into temtem already and honestly I’m loving what they have implemented already. But literally every issue I have with the game you hit on and I’m so glad to see that I wasn’t the only one. The biggest point for me was the “MMO” tag. I totally was expecting a traditional MMORPG experience but with Pokémon *ahem* Temtem. Like I was expecting to be able to make like a party of 5 players, or a raid. And do dungeons and raids, but honestly I’m not even sure how that would work with the way that combat is. I really think the “MMORPG” tag is very misleading.
Yup it doesn't have the masivly part in MMORPG as of yet. They had chat and then they had to disable it as it was making problems. It will be re enabled at some point and there are auction houses that are lablet WIP so player trading will be a thing to. Duno what other plans they have as 3rd islands where alpha stips is midgame.
Man, I'm so with you there, that was what I really wanted. I have some ideas how a dungeon would actually work, but I don't completely have faith that they won't fall into the same holes the established franchise is in.
Actually, if you have a party of 5 people, for example, they can just separate you all in the battle and each of you would fight the same monsters, which gives you advantage of lowering their HP faster. Although you can’t see other party members fighting, you still benefit from having multi people playing. And since it’s a party fight, you have to share your XP and loot with other members. That’s how they could make it MMO.
If TemTem does well it provides competition for Pokemon resulting in them needing to improve their games further, competition is always good and Pokemon needs it other then that TemTem seems to be the equivalent of an ex dating a downgraded version of their last partner just to piss them off...
I agree, Pokemon needs a fire lit under it's butt. Temtem, however, isn't really doing that, instead just tweaking rules a bit. It doesn't do anything new, really. It does prove that Pokemon-likes can be a genre though and if a less by-the-books dev came along that could force Pokemon to switch things up.
As cool as it would be to have a similar game to Pokémon make Pokémon games themselves improve I doubt tem tem will achieve that. It’s never gonna be big enough or different enough for it to make a significant change (the way it is now anyways)
@@hollydot9245 true plus in terms of quality it will be hard to determine if the vocal opinions are genuine or not since TemTem seems to be just a way of "getting back at pokemon" for many
@@ZackFair78 true it won't because a good portion of those fans are not focused on quality but attempting to damage the pokemon brand and if the quality is average for TemTem and is being promoted as amazing it suggests little change from the devs because why fix something that isn't broken, it'a funny how a community is creating more problems then solutions
I just stumbled upon this video 2.5 years after it was uploaded (October 12th,2022), and this game just released Last Month (September 6th, 2022) I just heard wood say it was gonna be released in a few months LMAO
Temtem evolve after leveling up a specific number of times after capture, the amount of lvls depends of each temtem, that is why breeding is the key to fast evolve a temtem, like a temtem that needs to lvl up 20 times if you breed it a lvl 1 will evolve at lvl 21, but if you capture it at lvl 20 it will evolve at lvl 40
It’s refreshing to see someone objectively calling out TemTem for their shortcomings. Majority of TemTem players are so blinded by Pokemon-hate, that they just continue praising it above Pokemon.
Same, if Temtem counts as a mmorpg then so does Pokemon then. Aren't people always wanted Pokemon to be a mmorpg? Here ya go. They're the same. Personally, I'm more of a casual fan. Don't care about National Pokedex and animation. But what I focus more, is the enjoyment of gameplay and story. Which I found Pokemon SwSh good at it. Starter Final evolution design could be better, Post-game is short thought, tbh.
Swag Snivy o.o post game in Pokémon is for shiny hunters / dex completionists. I think there’s a lot to be done personally. I also feel like a lot of these “Pokémon-like” games suddenly all releasing at once (temtem/kindred fates) are some of the haters that had expectations crushed in Gen8 or even Gen7 pokemon xD just my opinion though lmao could be wrong
@@levi5930 it's definitely a marketing strategy imo. Probably one of the reasons why TemTem was released with some of its aspects still in the developing stage. I'm just afraid that a game that tries to build popularity out of spite of its competitor would eventually fail unless it really establishes itself as a separate identity from its biggest competition.
That being said, as a long-time pokemon fan myself, i do feel the post game content is a bit short in terms of storyline. The post game content itself is vast, thanks to the Wild Area, but i just want a post game storyline that's a bit longer and more rewarding.
The Wild Area and TemTem are very different, the players you see in the wild area are barely interactable ghosts which just wander around, while the other players in TemTem can be interacted with (you just had some unfriendly people there, you can see other people emote normally) you can look at who is in the area, trade with them directly, and talk in chat real time with them.
@@boredfangerrude JoCat and Shenpai's video has a whole section of the video derailed because some random wanted to trade with them, which involved a bench party with about 7 people
This actually looks really good. Thanks for giving it a bad review, I'm going to buy it now that I know about it! One man's trash is another's treasure.
Im a fan of temtem but youre right, it plays like a solo pokemon game with people in the world that you cant really do anything with. But the thing is, this game is going to evolve in major areas. Even after launch.
Thanks for the honest review! Sounds like a game still in development, although very playable and pleasing fans (and non-fans) of Pokémon alike. Looking forward to the finished product very soon (hopefully). 👍
You have the exact main three in your squad I have: Crystal, Ganki, and Loeli. I was playing it for a solid week, but I had also just finished Pokémon Sword and this burnout just really crept up on me. Haven’t played for a bit now and moved onto other games I have in my backlog. Hopefully I’ll give it another shot when it hits the Switch.
Thanks for the honest review. All the other reviews I watched were fan boys pissing all over pokemon and hyping this game up. I'll hold off til it's finished and check it out then.
I've seen quite the opposite extreme as well. Seems like there's zero to none middleground, which is why I definitely enjoyed and appreciated this review as well :)
I personally prefer Pokémon. If this had come at literally any other point in time, it would be ridiculed as a 100% copy. But because it came out now, with all of the controversy, it’s being praised.
@@RealSkyeBlue But it is normal because it has a smaller budget and itis the first game in hopefully a bigger serie. So it can improve the same way pokemon dit over the years.
@@mathiasm8489 That we'll never know. It's possible, but Pokemon is just years ahead in terms of experience and monster design so it'd be pretty unfair to compare at this point.
I really hope you will do a follow up review on this title when it does release. I'll also admit, the MMO aspect does feel rather misused to me as well, even in the current patch. But! I am happy to see how much it has progressed since this review. More temtem, more places to go, more things, and of course, a quest log. I enjoyed your take on all of this, and I repeat, I hope you cover it again in this format whenever it drops in full next year.
You definitely can walk up to other players and talk with them and battle them… don’t k is why people think you can’t… you are in the same server as everyone else……
@@jbxgundam2872 Yea. I year Later I learned the error of my ways on this. At the time I just didn't feel like I was in an mmo at all. But thats because I was just hyper focusing the story mode so I hardly even noticed people around me lol. But thanks for the reply! :D
I played the game through open beta, and bought in on "release day". I totally agree with you on a lot of your points. Everything feels slow and repetitive, and that quest log is the worst thing. But it's a fun game for a decent price. Feels like an older Pokemon game, with a little co-op interaction.
Games like these barely go to high up maybe $5-$10 extra bucks, some even stay the same or go F2P and offer 10% of their content but to early players who bought it the full experience.
If this is going to be an actual MMO, then it isn't worth buying now or the future. Buy to play MMOS are just bad. Not to mention, if it isn't a true MMO, then it isn't worth any amount of money.
@@boredfangerrude I'm sorry but I don't think you have played a real good MMO before? FF 14 and WoW are both amazing MMO's and you pay like $15 a month for them. I know there is some MMO's out there like Guild Wars you pay once and it is free to play and its good. then you got TESO and KOTOR that was a pay to play monthly cost but suffered to the point it had to go free to pay and pay a monthly fee if you want to. TemTem is pay once and its free. Now it will have micro transactions in it but they wont me pay to win.
@@zachwhite595 Wow i s utter trash and i would not consider 14 a true mmo considering the quest to end game is nothing but fetch quests, the story is sub par and its no wonder there losing subs at an alarming rate.
Basic consensus seems to be, come back and try this when it evolves into a full game. Currently just a differently stylized but extremely similar pokemon reskin. Catch. Fight. Grind. Repeat. Also gotta say that I hope they actually make the full release mmo, not just ghost visions of fellow players. That alone would sell it to me.
Those are fair points, but I just want to say that Temtem is not just a couple of months away from release. It's literally a year away from full release. There is a TON of content that is yet to come. If you want to check out the game's early state, I think it's enjoyable enough as is and you can see that stuff get added in over time. If you'd rather wait until everything is in the game, then just file Temtem away somewhere in the back of your mind and check in on it next year to see what all has been added. Or ya know, if you're not interested in the game, just ignore all that. ;)
TBH I feel like most of these complaints are with a game that is finished, not an early access. I agree that if these things are not finished by full release then they constitute gripes, but at this stage playing/buying an early access game is something where you should expect it to be not completely finished and to have bugs and sections that still need to be implemented (i.e. a quest log that I am sure is a logistical nightmare for UI and probably would be redundant to add before every quest is finished in order to stop from messing up game code). But still enjoyed the video. These were just MY thoughts on YOUR thoughts XD
@jocaguz18 People are judging the game like its finished I think is what they mean. Like for example a lack of "end game" content when the game isn't even finished and complaining about how there isn't much to do. What do you expect from a literally half finished game?
@jocaguz18 providing feedback for improvement is great for early access. Critiquing it like it is a finished game sends a message that you expect it to be perfect when they release it in early access for exactly what you are saying, feedback. The critiques given in the video are valid, but should also be prefaced and explicitly conditioned with "This may be fixed in the full release, but this is what I do not like currently." But complaining about missing functions in a game that is not finished seems misguided. Just my two cents
"If you're gonna make a better Pokémon alternative, at least make it different" Okay, but... what's the point, then? If I want an _alternative_ to a certain game, I'll obviously want it to play similarly to that game. If I want an alternative to a turn-based RPG, why would I want that alternative to be in real-time? That's like saying "I want an alternative to Mario Kart...but it should be a puzzle game"
I think what Wood meant it must me GOOD alternative that FEEL different. I mean, I really love FE series, and Wargroove is it's alternative. Good alternative that work on similar TRPG mechanics, have many similarity but at the same time a gem on it's own, with unique style, it's own story, battle differences... Both games are gorgeous and unique gems to love. Temtem on other hand... I agree that I feel NOTHING unique that wouldn't be a downgrade from pokemon, except, maybe some parts of battle mechanics like synergy.
@@BeatEmUps perhaps, but this is kind of like those guys that are making that game that's heavily inspired by cuphead. If you're a cuphead fan, and want more cuphead, but the people who make the game don't have a sequel or anything coming out, a "clone" will easily scratch that itch. Also, Pokemon has always been Nintendo's thing. But, the ability to play something so "Pokemon-like" on a Xbox or PS4 or even a PC (and not have to emulate), will be amazing. I'm sure this will scratch that itch for fans of Pokemon that can't afford/don't want a Switch and/or want a Pokemon experience, but are sick of Gamefreak's (mis) handling of the series. So, I don't know, man. I think if it's too much its own thing, it might not appeal to enough people. But, if it is more like a "true" Pokemon alternative, I could see that reeling in a lot of people, for the reasons I mentioned above. I guess we'll have to wait and see
@@BeatEmUps If you want something different enough you could play Yokai Watch, Shin Megami Tensei, Digimon World/Cyber Sleuth, Ni No Kuni, Dragon Quest Joker. There are a lot of alternatives out there.
@@BeatEmUps ...which TemTem is, by offering different combat mechanics, removing any randomness from battles, adding synergy and stamina... I mean, if we're being honest, the gameplay of the last three Mortal Kombat games isn't really that different from the gameplay of Street Fighter, but the differences that _are_ there are obviously enough to have people prefer MK over SF. I could say the same about almost every shooter, platformer, RPG etc out there. I guess my biggest hangup was that you expected the game to have real time combat, which just makes no sense to me.
Is just an Early access but for what I've seen is more than enough to buy it, I'm waiting for the Switch port in 2021, I'm pretty sure it's gonna have all those issues fixed. Developers seem to be working really hard on it.
If you enjoy grinding for the sake of grinding, this is the game for you! Be sure you have padding next to your computer so you can smash your face into after your soul has been crushed by the boredom!
they should make a raid like system where a group of players team up to defeat a boss (or to catch a legendary or whatever it's called in this game) since it's a mmo they should take advantage of that
Also, just because Wood was thinking weird about temtem not evolving. Temtem don't evolve at a certain level, but after a certain number of levels from when you cought them. So I recommend catching low level temtem so they will evolve faster.
They parmanently banned me saying I spread false information when I said to a guy in discussion that he should not buy tem tem cause they many times gives false bans which r parmanents
Sounds like you feel like it's a better pokemon game :tea :fedoraflip But really thanks for the in-depth review! I really enjoyed it. I love the game, but even the parts you felt lacking felt fair. I appreciate how you review things and will check your other videos!
Why does everyone say this game looks beautiful? Like beauty is in the eye of the beholder but this game has a very particular color palette and it seems to be all throughout the game. Other than that, to me looks pretty good :)
im kind of happy that there are no wild temtem running around in the grass , that would be a clusterfuck 15 people running back and forth for wild encounters + some wild tems hiding in there
Temtem seemed like a great idea when Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee were first announced and when they were supposed to be 2018 games that would have shaken up the core a bit, but IDK, I've enjoyed SWSH so much and I don't like the idea of being connected online all the time to play Temtem, a lot of people won't notice this problem until it comes out for Switch. I will say that a game that ACTUALLY looks like it'll give Pokemon a run for it's money will be Kindred fates but even that won't come out until 2023 and we'll probably have Diamond and Pearl Remakes by then and SWSH will only be built upon moving forward. I'm a little burnt out on Pokemon but that's cus I've been playing it nonstop since November and might not pick it up until the Expansions are out...
I love that you give your honest opinion. Btw you should keep an eye out for monster crown it's also coming to switch soon, it's a kickstarter monster catching game but the major twist for monster crown idds you can breed hybrid monsters and get some really unique combos when you really get deep into breeding all kinds of monsters together, oh and you have both parents, you get your first monster from a catalog not a professor and you set off to explore the world It's not currently available to anyone outside the kickstarter backers like myself, but I've enjoyed what I've played of it and provided feedback Maybe the creator would let you play so you can review, it's worth asking
I've heard a lot about this game recently. A lot of fellow tubers saying they were genuinely surprised... I think I need to check this out... But I'm not a big MMORPG fan 🤔
Id wait to be honest, The servers are utter trash at this point. Game crashes constantly. Id wait till they remove it out of beta and get more server stability. Other then that the game is fun.
So I was introduced to you by your no longer apart of the Nintendo ambassador program (or whatever it was called like I said just found your channel) and I have to say I am loving your personality and how you talk about the games. And I am glad you talked about the MMORPG bit, cause I would have been very disappointed with it cause that's not how I would describe a MMORPG, I feel you said it best, if this is a MMORPG so should be shield and sword
Yah, but many people are holding this game on a pedestal just because they hate Sw/Sh that much. They like to imagine everyone at GameFreak are just lounging around playing Smash Bros instead of working while the devs at TemTem are breaking their back to get their game out.
I had already gotten Temtem before you did this video and finished it. Or rather finished all that was available. I have to say as a long time Pokemon fan I actually liked it. It covered a few things that I wanted in Pokemon and for what it was I enjoyed it. I give it a solid 8/10.
Reviews like this one is why i love your channel so much. I tire of the glowing reviews of games that turn out to be junk. I like that you address both the good and bad things. And, frankly, I love the way your team adds effects, sounds, music etc... The bit from Simon and garfunkle's sound of silence was perfect! Thank you, kind sir, for all your videos. Right now you are one of two bloggers I watch regularly,..The other being Mike Cohen's strictly dumplings lol
Someone beat the Elite 4 in Pokemon Let's Go with a Metapod alone. Someone beat the last gym in Sword/Shield with a Magikarp. All Pokemon can breed with the same Dito which seems weird. Until Pokemon finds a way to make game with a hard-mode or just more difficult in general, I'll stick to Temtem. The co-op is a nice bonus too.
I feel like the best way to make an MMO pokemon like game would be to not have a main quest/story line; to only have side quests and such. So you can choose what you want to do at all times and dont feel like you are just doing what you have to/are supposed to do.
I'm making a game for the swich so I'm hopeing you can review it when it comes out. The name is "The Bad Knight". Also have a good day Wood and good luck.
The game is great In my oppinion, however I get lost many times after back tracking and it reqiured me to look for help, the game is stupid hard man, I found a huge problem with me co-oping, but they kinda see you but they kinda dont with a solo adventure, I saw myself connecting with a few players, but, they have made a road map for the game for upcoming updates, and there is a battle pass but its nothing like the others, its just cosmetics, not exp charms or anything, and they are going to be doing houses and stuff in that road map! Whenever its in full version I recomend you giving it one more shot. Its a great game!
If the final product is half as polished as a Pokemon game I don't get the point of supporting the latter anymore, especially if it's going to stay priced at $80CAD per game and we will have to pay even more for DLC. Temtem sounds just fine for a game that's half the price, give or take, and is at about what I value this type of game at.
I appreciate your review. Everyone else has described this as "The Pokemon Killer" and it was refreshing to hear a more balanced review. Thank you. But for $35 I think I'll wait to let the game evolve more. I haven't heard anything about what the devs are going to do next now that the game is out in the wild to address some of the issues you've discussed.
Yeah, anyone who says that this will kill Pokemon is dreaming, the swsh controversy has shown even with people all over the internet complaining about everything, Pokemon will still sell well. I'd be interested in seeing where Temtem ends goes, but for now it looks a bit to similar to Pokemon and a little underdeveloped.
@@WolforNuva I'm not sure why, with the wealth of ideas the Pokemon games have tried and abandoned, everything from the Pokemon RPG on the GameCube, to Pokemon Ranger, to Pokemon Dungeon, even Pokemon Battle Arena on the Wii, that TemTem is only so far doing a generic clone of a Pokemon DS game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It is worth noting that a lot of the actual MMO features are coming later, considering this is currently Early Access. Alpha actually had a world chat, which was removed for Early Access because the servers might not have been able to handle it I assume (and judging from how they were performing on the first couple days, I don't exactly blame them...) but you can see a setting for it in the options menu so its clear its going to come back. I just figure they're waiting to devise a way to moderate it and make sure people cant crash the servers with chatspam. They also are going to incorporate guilds, and have a guild-war-esque system where your guild can fight for control of dojos, but thats all a bit further down the roadmap. If you DO want this game for an MMO experience then yeah - I'd recommend holding off until these features get added. For me, a polished 3DS pokemon game -is- kinda what I expected going into it, so I still am having a great time with it. Also its worth noting that yeah, the players in the world -can- see you. I did find another guy with a Luma Temtem when I was walking around with my own, and we both began spamming emotes at each other, and eventually I challenged him to a battle and he accepted - I think Wood just found a case of people on the internet being antisocial.
I'm pretty sure he mentioned that the features may come later, for more mmo like options, and features. Did you watch 5 mins then instantly dive into the comments?
@@AnotherGameNerd5 He didn't specify what features - and specifically where chat is concerned didn't mention that it had been there before. I don't think his video is bad or anything, just elaborating for people on the fence.
Your criticism is valid, but you can't really expect the same Level of an Alpha from a Small Indie company. This game was Funded with half a million on kickstarter. Compare that to pokemon and the billions it refuses to spend on its games. When the game is out for a few years, you can Set it on equal terms.

Michael Vigato *WHAT?!* 🤯
Deity Saturn honestly I had no idea either
The levels that Temtems evolve actually depends on what level you get them. If a Temtem evolves after 20 levels and you catch it at level 5, it'll evolve at level 25. But if you catch it at level 20, it'll evolve at level 40.
Pretty stupid way imo, just punishes picking up new Temtem.
Reno Black
No it just stops players from only catching high level temtems and to try and catch lower level ones as itll be quicker to evolve
Galactia7000 HD thus punishing players who catch tems at later levels lmao
"Temtem that kind of reminded me of Bulbasaur"

Probly editors mistake right?
I had to pause to find others like me who thought the same! hahahaha!
That sounds like an awful and annoying mechanic tbh just makes it a bit of a chore
Man, that makes me appreciate more the quality of life changes that Game Freak has put into ShSw even more.
William Vogel you mean individual creature right? Because the way you worded that, it sounded like the exact same thing. lol

"They could have changed the battle system a little bit."
Later:
"The biggest change is the battle system. "

No no no, he has a point?
I think changing the battle system in these monster collector games is probably a make or break thing, especially if you're attracting disgruntled Pokemon fans -- IMO turned based battles where moves has to use a pool rather than each move having a pool is an interesting twist.
You are combining battle animations with battle systems, they are not the same thing.
I believe that the first comment was in reference to the fact that, yes they've implemented changes that add a great deal of strategic depth, but it's still a turn based RPG with stationary combatants.
There are plenty of games that they could have looked to for inspiration to further diffentiate the combat, for instance:
FF VI - real time combat elements
Mario + Rabbids - grid based arenas
Mega Man Battle Network - real-time grid based battles (I think, I've only ever seen brief clips of the battle system on TH-cam).
@@gowzahr , Arc The Lad: Twilight of the Spirits was doing the combat style of Mario + Rabbids nearly 20 years before that other game.
@@gowzahr I mean you could argue Temtem's style seems similar to Mario and Luigi's, each having Bro Points to use their special attacks.
And there’s so much more stages to go through! I hope they mix up the random encounter mechanic
You mean that they gradually recover battle stamina, like syenergy from "golden sun"? That is really cool, because that definitely means what u just said about it.
Well , its been 1 year and now all of those problems are no more
I love Pokémon, so I was all over Temtem when it launched.
Have you seen the Kindred Fates kickstarter? It's a pokemon like only with a BOTW style, mature story, and a real time battle system.

@@levi5930 it's definitely a marketing strategy imo. Probably one of the reasons why TemTem was released with some of its aspects still in the developing stage. This looks like itll be fun! Cant wait to try it out
It is in early access I do recommend buying it now. The price will be going up when it releases
Kimberly has no shame and i am living for it :D
Basic consensus seems to be, come back and try this when it evolves into a full game. Currently just a differently stylized but extremely similar pokemon reskin. Catch. Fight. Grind. Repeat.
Also gotta say that I hope they actually make the full release mmo, not just ghost visions of fellow players. That alone would sell it to me.
There gonna be in game chat and some kind of players guilds with battles between theme, probably this spring
But better buy it now because the price keeps rising the closer they get to finishing. Will probably be a 60 bucks title by the end.
@jocaguz18
People are judging the game like its finished I think is what they mean.
@jocaguz18 nope just clarifying.
Thanks for this! I was on the fence about this game, and will now wait it out to see how it's full release goes. Wonderful video as always ❤️
"If you're gonna make a better Pokémon alternative, at least make it different"
Okay, but... what's the point, then?
Different enough to stand out and be it's own thing. To be worth spending another $35 to play an alternative version of something you already have.
Love the videos:) the thumbnail of this video made me think there was a physical copy of the game though and now I'm shattered lol.
It's really seems like the non child equivalent of pokemon, where you just one shot everything and fly through the whole game.
The switch port is coming in May 2020
😂😂😂😂 Tim tams.... god i love you man. youre sense of humor is awesome thank you for being you 👊
they should make a raid like system where a group of players team up to defeat a boss (or to catch a legendary or whatever it's called in this game)
since it's a mmo they should take advantage of that
Please woods, talk about things you don't like without worrying, it makes understanding you easier
I found out about ur channel a while ago and I love it to this day
Also, just because Wood was thinking weird about temtem not evolving.
Tbh i don't really dig the overworld. Looks like a typical mobile game to me.
It all looks a bit generic to me but I can see how the colours in some parts of the world can be pretty.
im kind of happy that there are no wild temtem running around in the grass , that would be a clusterfuck 15 people running back and forth for wild encounters + some wild tems hiding in there
Temtem seemed like a great idea when Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee were first announced and when they were supposed to be 2018 games that would have shaken up the core a bit, but IDK, I've enjoyed SWSH so much and I don't like the idea of being connected online all the time to play Temtem, a lot of people won't notice this problem until it comes out for Switch.
Btw you should keep an eye out for monster crown it's also coming to switch soon, it's a kickstarter monster catching game but the major twist for monster crown idds you can breed hybrid monsters and get some really unique combos when you really get deep into breeding all kinds of monsters together, oh and you have both parents, you get your first monster from a catalog not a professor and you set off to explore the world
It's not currently available to anyone outside the kickstarter backers like myself, but I've enjoyed what I've played of it and provided feedback
Maybe the creator would let you play so you can review, it's worth asking
I've heard a lot about this game recently. A lot of fellow tubers saying they were genuinely surprised... I think I need to check this out... But I'm not a big MMORPG fan 🤔
Id wait to be honest, The servers are utter trash at this point. Game crashes constantly. Id wait till they remove it out of beta and get more server stability. Other then that the game is fun.
@@alucard8433 thanks for the advice buddy. I'll hang off for a bit.
I still need to complete Pokemon Shield anyhow 😅
That's ok because this is barely a MMORPG

I can see the editor had a lot of fun with this one, lol. Thanks Wood and the editor I enjoyed it

Also him: Has Pokémon 10 levels above Milo’s.
that’s the thing with pokémon tho, especially in sword and shield from my experience was how insanely easy it is to level up pokémon super quickly
Arcanine alone can beat the entire story mode. :3 good luck

So I was introduced to you by your no longer apart of the Nintendo ambassador program (or whatever it was called like I said just found your channel) and I have to say I am loving your personality and how you talk about the games. And I am glad you talked about the MMORPG bit, cause I would have been very disappointed with it cause that's not how I would describe a MMORPG, I feel you said it best, if this is a MMORPG so should be shield and sword
pokemon is on another level lel. honestly though, competitive pokemon is more grindy and stressful than most mmos, if you know you know.
Yah, but many people are holding this game on a pedestal just because they hate Sw/Sh that much. They like to imagine everyone at GameFreak are just lounging around playing Smash Bros instead of working while the devs at TemTem are breaking their back to get their game out.
@@scarffoxandfriends9401 yet temtem is awful

If Temtem were to be finished, I would like a quest log implemented.
They plan to ad quest diary on fall
I had already gotten Temtem before you did this video and finished it. Or rather finished all that was available. I have to say as a long time Pokemon fan I actually liked it. It covered a few things that I wanted in Pokemon and for what it was I enjoyed it. I give it a solid 8/10.
Look at those gorgeous trees :D
I think you just came across many rude players lol ive been interacting with people every day and getting reactions
That or they're kids that don't really know what they're doing
Reviews like this one is why i love your channel so much. I tire of the glowing reviews of games that turn out to be junk. I like that you address both the good and bad things. And, frankly, I love the way your team adds effects, sounds, music etc... The bit from Simon and garfunkle's sound of silence was perfect!
Thank you, kind sir, for all your videos. Right now you are one of two bloggers I watch regularly,..The other being Mike Cohen's strictly dumplings lol
TemTem evolve by how many levels they gained AFTER you catch them.
The co-op is a nice bonus too.
my desk litterally fell apart whilst watching this..
Fun
How?!
@@WolfLykaios honesly no clue it litteraly just fell apart ..
Pokemon is now like Kleenex. Nobody says Tissue Paper anymore, and nobody will say TemTem or pocket monster either. It's pokemon.
Snack world review? Been looking for you to talk about it
I feel like the best way to make an MMO pokemon like game would be to not have a main quest/story line; to only have side quests and such. So you can choose what you want to do at all times and dont feel like you are just doing what you have to/are supposed to do.
I'm making a game for the swich so I'm hopeing you can review it when it comes out. The name is "The Bad Knight". Also have a good day Wood and good luck.
Sounds cool, what is it about? How’s development going and release date lol?

@@ilyashuster3447 It's about a knight that kidnaps the princess because y not
Would love to see you come back to this when the 1.0 update drops in September.
Definitely not a Pokemon rival...
Thanks for the video! It helped make up my mind. I think I'm gonna wait for the finished version of this game.
Actually seems like a MMORPG I will play
I am not a Pokémon fan but I am trying to get into it
Your criticism is valid, but you can't really expect the same Level of an Alpha from a Small Indie company. This game was Funded with half a million on kickstarter. Compare that to pokemon and the billions it refuses to spend on its games. When the game is out for a few years, you can Set it on equal terms.
