Minetendo Eelektric is actually clever due to the fact that it’s an electric eel..Crystle is literally just crystal but spelt wrong. Electrike actually sounds different, unless Crystle was meant to sound differently.

I kept hearing TemTem and was wondering why the freak everyone keep talking about this. Until I looked it up a few minutes ago (before watching this vid) and totally understand now.
Some of it is because some people are trying to get back at their EX (pokemon) instead of actually liking the game for TemTem's merits. It's not good for TemTem.
Cooperative play through the entire game. That alone is the biggest draw and would make it worth it. As long as the end game is at least equal to pokemon.
As a student who likes to make games, i think it is just pokemon fans who wanted to legally make a game and be able to change whatever they want. I respect this, and obviously Pokémon will always be the original, but that is no reason to hate them. If anything, a small team with a much lower budget means that TemTem is if anything more respected I my eyes, but Pokémon is more I my eyes.
You forgot the three coolest changes. 1. Temtem can evolve in the middle of battle, much like in the Pokemon anime. 2. if you catch a wild Temtem before knocking out its partner, you can actually send in your new Temtem to fight its former partner and that gives me a rather sadistic level of amusement. 3. The best change of all, the main character ACTUALLY TALKS, and she's actually quite the sassy child.

In general even tho I haven’t played temtem I think this will be great for not only temtem itself but also Pokémon. Temtem is gonna be competition that Pokémon hasn’t had for years so they’re gonna strive to be better and stop slouching on their beloved games and start making some master pieces of games Im not hating on Pokémon I’m just saying that the existence and success of temtem will only make Pokémon better
Pokemon always had competition though. Games like Digimon or Yokai Watch already existed when Pokemon was around. People expecting this to put pressure on Pokemon forget that we're dealing with a franchise that makes more money than Star Wars. An Indie Game will not make them feel threatened. It's similair to wrestling. There are reasonable alternatives to WWE, but they're not going to be as big as them

When I first heard of TemTem, I honestly thought it was going to be another Digimon versus Pokemon like debate. But after watching this, yeah it's definitely not. It's not even a finished product yet and people are comparing it to literally one of the biggest gaming franchises. Granted it does have some similarities, but really, give the game a chance to stand on its own for a while before comparing it...at least wait for the game to be finished first. We have no idea what's happening behind the scenes on this game so it could be drastically different when it's finished.
my problem with this is that it is trying too hard to mimic pokemon that it forgot to create an identity of its own...Digimon had little in common with pokemon and Yokai Watch had been distinct too but this one looks like a blant pokemon clone...The battle system looks interesting but all the rest screams pokemon mod...
It’s basically Pokémon but it seems to have a level of Wiz101 gameplay in it... early in it’s stages and it already has more beautiful graphics then any Pokémon game we’ve seen in a long time AND new innovations, so it’s worth a shot to buy it. As a plus, if it’s popular, Gamefreak will actually have to start being competent and actually start putting in some form of effort into their games to derail the shifting community money. I just hope they don’t sue it and move worrilessly on with Temtem’s carcass.

I've been hearing a lot of talk about Temtem and decided to learn about how it's different from Pokémon before buying it. I've heard one person say they "want their money back" but that one person also tried to convince people I was part of the "Brotherhood of Nod" which isn't even a real thing, so I might just buy it and learn to like it despite them. XD Also, I think Crystal might be based on both Rock and Steel. I'm also gonna go ahead and say my piece on the stuff you've mentioned: The stamina feature reminds me a bit of other MMOs, namely Wizard101. In that game, you start every battle with one pip and you use the pips to cast spells. Every turn you gain one pip (or a Power Pip, but that's a whole other can of worms) and this means that a valid strategy is skipping a turn and tanking some damage just for one extra pip that you would need to use a more powerful spell, like Leprechaun or Ghoul. As for the whole thing about it being better than Pokémon, I SOMEWHAT agree with you. I wouldn't say it's better than Pokémon, but it certainly shows potential to be a rival to the Pokémon franchise. Though, I highly doubt it will. It'll be more like Rivals of Aether, Brawlhalla and the like are to Smash Bros.
My major issue with it is its world...It may be (slightly)mechanically different than Pokemon but the rest of it is just a pokemon game ...They are like animals(not outlandish monsters of a different dimensions or demons like yokais) and they are captured by you ( a tamer/trainer to fight gym/dojos...The influential monster francises that rivalled pokemon were distinct of it enough and had various inspirations ....They were not even created to rival pokemon...This one looks like a corky pokemon mod with a slightly deeper battle system and new monsters...
To me it's more then different enough then pokemon. 1 - The story is WAY better written and more interesting. 2 - The dialogues have just the right amount of sarcasm and forth wall breaking. 3 - The removal of accuracy and having a set number of turns for the status removes the bullshit aspect of pokemon. 4 - All battles being double are WAY more strategic. 5 - I can play it without needing to buy a Nintendo console. 6 - The animations are good. 7 - It's done by a company that actually cares about the game and don't lie to it's costumers. 8 - It's not from Game Freak. Yes, this is the same point as before, but I consider it important to say that again.

Uh, I'm assuming you mean the specific region's starters (such as the Tepig line, Snivy line, and Oshawott line for Unova) as I'm pretty sure the Kanto starters at least are catchable through Island Scan in Gen VII. Also, you can catch the middle evolution of both sets of X and Y starters in Friend Safari (Charmeleon and Braixen, Ivysaur and Quilladin, and Wartortle and Frogadier).
@@minitoast6812 Idk, not being able to catch them is what made them special. I always had my starter on my main party when I played even when better options of the same type popped up. Making them catchable as random encounter, at least before the end, loses that uniqueness. They just become generic goons versus your companion.
Same genre : monsters capture Same type of battle : turn-based combat with the same types of moves, exactly the same stats, the same types of abilities and the same type of elemental type matchups. I can give you the fact that every battle is a double battle and that there's no RNG though. Same story : you are a 1x year old kid finally getting to go on his own journey with (insert name of the creatures) to be the (very) best. To do that, you have to win against several people recognized for their strength. You will in this journey encounter an evil organization that tries to piss people off, but you will thwart their plans every time they cross your path. Also, you have a rival. They even have shinies and even the music is similar for fuck's sake !

Pros of Temtem: - The game is fluid in a sense. It' MMO, they can add global events, side quests, daily tasks, seasonal stuff, etc. Making it a better experience. - Luma is a shiny with guaranteed good stats. That means you can actually use it in competitive plays. - Battling is purely tactical and rely little on type matchup and level advantage. You need to actually think of your moves in order to win. - Temtem devs are pokemon lovers, they literally take advice from pokemon fan base and add what the players want in pokemon but didnt receive. Cons: - Online game comes with being laggy - Temtem design is less cute than pokemon. - Being harder can be a turn-off. - Currently only available on PC.

Temtem actually evolve after being caught for a certain amount of levels. For example, Crystle will evolve at level 29 if you get it at level 1, but will evolve at level 30 if caught at level 2
@@tiosevenstars I think it's more logical, than nature being weak to wind. I mean if wind really we're a threat to nature there wouldn't be any now would there. While tree's can get uprooted by strong winds i don't think a forest will ever cease to exist cuz of some storm.

You could say that Digital is the Temtem equivalent of Dragon in Pokémon. Both are supposed to be very rare and very powerful, the most special type in each of their respective universes. They are also both super effective against themselves.

I just want to add some stuff that non-players will naturally miss (since it’s mostly info given by devs on their patch-notes, etc…): - Temtem has many weekly activities to do in order to get special resources and money - Temtem will have in-game tournaments organizable by players at release - PVP is more interesting than it seems: there is variety in the meta, there is no RNG in *any* form, and competitive matches are 5v5 (you start with a team of 8 and go through pick-and-ban phases - Draft mode - ending up with a team of 5); there is also a *competitive ladder* and there will be rewards linked to it in the future - There will be both an “Arcade Bar” and a Battle Tower post-release - Last but not least, *it is CROSS-PLAY and CROSS-PLATFORM* ! At the current state of the game, Temtem is available both on PC (Steam/Discord) and on PS5, and it is *confirmed* we will get Xbox and Switch versions at release (Early Access rules on those platforms do not allow Temtem to be on their shops before release) Of course there are a lot of other small and big aspects I’d like to mention (good story, dialogues, exploration element of the map, challenging AI especially in the end game…), but this is what most people would like to know before even considering Temtem, in my opinion.

The Sleep status effect makes total sense in most other RPG's it works like that. Also makes real world sense too, if your asleep there's a high chance a physical attack would snap you out of it.

@@piggymkcool Of course it isn't going to threaten Pokemon that isn't my point at all. But if it manages to stick around it could get big enough to matter for future releases. We know Nintendo cares about selling consoles and a real competitor outside their control might just be enough to get them to back off on this aggressive monetisation train they seem dead set on. We have yet to see a game successfully put together the pieces in a way that captures the game play Pokemon offers without going full Fakemon. In that sense Pokemon has had no real competition since the early days.
I think Temtem is a really good "clone" game. Using elements from Pokemon but also being a completely different type of game! I can't wait to see where it goes in the future! Also I think the Temtem is pronounced *Cris-TAHL*

Yokai watch can still be consider Pokémon's rival. It killed Pokémon 3 years in a row in Japan. That's why the games were simplified throughout the years.
It’s new, only available on pc currently and is a made to be like Pokémon. The creators are Pokéfans and wanted to make a game similar to Pokémon but had everything they saw wrong with Pokémon as it is now.
The fact that it is a potential competitor for Pokemon already brings hope and joy to me. They need that push to actually start improving their games. I'm genuinely looking forward to TemTem. Something new, different, and exciting. (Pokemon has been failing to bring that to me recently, I'll forever refuse to play SW/SH). cornspoon Loomian legacy came out before tem tem and implemented the stamina bar and the typings Neutral, melee, toxic, wind, mental and Neutral are also in Loomian legacy and as I mentioned before it came out before temtem, additionally Loomian legacy has online trading and an online battling system, it has many different types of loomians, there is a mastery system implemented which lets you level up your player to get different rewards, there is a rallying ranch (basically the pokemon daycare but you somewhere between 3-9 unhatched loomians of the same species as the “leader” loomian) additionally you saying it is a roblox game is laughable because Nintendo copyrighted 2 roblox pokemon games (Project pokemon and Pokemon brick bronze) which proves nintendo saw that these games had quality and were actual competitors
I think Temtem is probably going to be the thing adult Pokemon fans really want. Pokemon is, always has been, and basically always will be a kid's game, meaning they will have to make sure it's friendly to all ages, which of course may mean things such as difficulty are slightly sacrificed for accessibility, which to some people can be a letdown for understandable reasons. Being more challenging with more variety in things Pokemon doesn't have is helpful for the older generation who looks for more in games. I also hope that Temtem potentially being Pokemon's first competition in a while will help motivate GF to put the effort fans want into the next mainline Pokemon games to bring enjoyment to everyone, not only the ones who play mostly just for fun like myself but also the more hardcore ones as well. I do and always will love Pokemon and I hope that Temtem could be the thing that helps fulfill a gap that Pokemon may have left open after some left the francise at any time as well as potentially bring people back to the series or bring in those who want to try it out for themselves.
I understand a but of this comes from bias and the existence of Pokemon for my entire life but... None of the designs from TemTem are even close to being extraordinary. The only exception? The bootleg Pokemon they got permission to use.
if you are talking about Platypet, the story behind that is more interesting than just "Pokemon rip off haha". it was a fan made that A FAN bought the rights to and submitted it through the Kickstater as their own Temtem fan submission. it was a backer tier that people could have their own custom Temtem in the game

The temtem designs can't really compete against 2 decades of expertise. Not every Pokemon design is a winner but you can always tell what they are designed after and what kind of type they could be. With temtem, you have no idea.

Sure, with time and expertise you can execute it better, but it isn't really a rule, nor it's an excuse to be an indie developer for the lack of identity/design. I don't doubt that these creatures were designed with love, but the execution say: "We are not sure what is a temtem, we just wanted to do a Pokemon game with a twist, and needed creatures to fill it".
Pokémon like Metagross and Dragapult don't have one exact inspiration, and that's why they work better. Dragapult has many inspirations with a fitting backstory, and Metagross is a giant iron psychic spider, which is instantly cool. But Temtem look so similar, and they have creatures which are literally 'flying pig' and 'digital robot'. They don't really experiment with concepts and mythology like Pokémon does.
I agree that it doesn't feel different enough to me. The Yo Kai Watch and Dragon Quest Monsters games felt different enough that they were really fun self contained experiences that didn't have me constantly comparing them.

So the competitive scene may not be a fest of spamming and swapping while everyone uses the exact same creatures, moves and strategies they copied from Smog-on... I already like it.
I love that there's no natures. I didn't mind abilities, would rather be without them, but this is like they took the best elements of pokemon and few if no bad elements of pokemon.

I get the hype -even though TemTem is riding the "anti-Gamefreak" argument. However, my main complaint is not that it's too similar to Pokemon; it's actually the opposite. It doesn't copy Pokemon enough in the right areas and that really makes it comes out "simple" The art style is too "app store" and the Temtem designs don't really hold a candle to Sugimori's or any of the other artists at Gamefreak. Yo-kai Watch has better designs and style. Also I don't really understand why it needs to be an MMO if you can't do anything substantial or meaningful with it, it's just people running around in your single-player game. I don't say all that just to be mean or to hate on Temtem. I wish it performs well and it grabs even a fraction of Pokemon fans has its own.
Have you SEEN some of the pokemon designs? A red ball with ferns? Sooo much better. A pile of garbage? A pile of goo? A Bird? Another bird? Oh look, another bird? A literal rock with arms? I could go on... lol There are only a handful of Pokemon who's design actually sticks out to me, but the vast majority of them are... kind of meh or just downright facepalm worthy. So yes, TemTem design can hold a candle up to Pokemon design, especially since there are only 84 TemTem currently, compared to what Pokemon started with, and they feel about the same too me design wise as any Pokemon. But, design is a VERY subjective thing, what one person likes, someone else will hate... sooo eh X-D Same with style. You forget that WoW's style was, and still is VERY popular though, so dismissing it and using that as a reason for it not being as good as Pokemon... is wrong. What will ultimatly set TemTem apart is its world, and mechanics, and so far, it has done quite a bit in that regaurd. Stamina managment is a HUGE game changer along side Holding and so far I have actually been likeing it over the PP usage Pokemon has, quite a bit actually. As for feeling different, I think TemTem feels MUCH more different than Pokemon already. Pokemon cannot evolve and level up mid fight, learning new moves in the middle of an intense fights. You can't revive and 100% heal your whole team with a single item between check points. Pokemon suffers from move spam, why use anything else? TemTem gives you a reason to use something else, and forces you to make the most of your moves and decide if you want to overexert your TemTem, or swich it out for a fresh one and give it a rest, it gives it a more realistic feeling to battles. In Pokemon shows and movies Pokemon DO exert themselves and get tired, but in the games, this is not the case. TemTem's Stamina system gives you that feeling. Okay, essay done X-D lol
Temtem is great! I’ve enjoyed it more then any Pokemon game since Black and White. If you haven’t given it a try (or haven’t played since EA launch) I recommend giving it another shot, totally different from where it was 12 months ago.
Temtem is interesting, and I’ll probably check it out when it fully releases, but I really don’t get the hype and expectations that this will rival Pokémon. Yeah its too soon to fully tell wether it will or will not actually be a competitor to Pokémon like Digimon and yugioh were, but the key word there is *were*. Both tried, both eventually lost out and mostly vanished with Pokémon still the champion. The main issue I have with Temtem, is the look of the game. It doesnt really have that charm and the creatures lack creativity. They all basically look the same and their evolutions barely change, unlike charmander who becomes charzard and looks very different while still keeping the idea that those two Pokémon are related. Overall... its very underwhelming right now and feels like you are playing an IOS or Android app game with Miis as the characters... I do hope it passes expectations, but so far Im not really that excited.
As someone playing the game right now, the animations are amazing and the battles feel incredibly fluid. However I do agree I'm not a fan of being evolutions. However I have hopes they will continue to improve.
I'm afraid that the Hype of the fanbase goes more in the line of "i'm mad at GF", "Maybe GF would lear" or "Pokemon need competition" that "Temtem is a good game by itself" (And the game is indeed interesting). The game certainly tit lack "something" that make it stand more, specially if you have played others Pokemon-like game/rip off, that make it feel it more of the same, but i guess is fine if Pokemon is the only monster taming game you played.
Just to add something to this, Neither Digimon nor Yu-gi-oh were ever going against Pokémon to try and be the better franchise, they merely jumped the hype train to try and make a quick buck of the success of Pokémon. It's to soon to tell, but Temtem is actually the only and first game to ever try to go head to head with pokémon. I've been playing the game and currently 46 hours in, and i can honestly say, it's *Currently* not better or worse then Pokémon. It has a "unique" story, and many of it's features are familiar, but not direct copies. I'm enjoying it so far and the community i belong to is a fun one.
Mostly the artist to blame. If they make the characters more anime like, and adopt a more pokemon like design, the game will improve by leaps and bounds. However, the game is incredibly polished at it's fundamentals and is a fun ass game considering only 10 or so devs are working on it. Gamefreak with it's astonishingly juggernaut of profits still cannot produce a game as good as TemTem.
Competition is always good for us consumers doesnt matter if the designs are poop as long as temtem succeeds thats a win for us because it means GF will hopefully get worried and put more effort into pokemon which lets be honest it needs.
Maybe wind is super effective on toxic because of the carbon cycle. Carbon dioxide buildup will become toxic in the body, but we can normally handle that just by breathing it out, and breathing is kind of like wind. And plants convert carbon dioxide into oxygen which is an important part of the atmosphere Crystal being strong against mental could be a reference to the idea of healing crystals, since they supposedly harness and control spiritual energy. Or maybe even to radioactive minerals and metals, and their effect on the nervous system (and on all of the systems, tbh. I guess in that case you could say that radioactivity causes death and thus causes brain activity to cease)

I know this is a meme but here is the thing I want to take a moment to show that Roblox creators brought out 2 great competitors for Pokemon (Project Pokemon and Pokemon brick bronze) both these games were played a lot in roblox and Nintendo/game freak actually copyrighted their games since they saw the quality in them and saw that they are real competitors
I think the reason crystal, unlike its counterpart rock, is good against fire and mental is because it charges energy, and since fire and especially mental is energy then it absorbs it (that was longer than i thought it would be)
Let’s be honest here, if Pokémon SwSh was released as a new IP today, it would get praised by its potential, but ultimately fall into irrelevancy for underdelivering and being unpolished. Pokémon games get away with A LOT because of the franchise’s past successes and loyal fanbase.

I kept hearing TemTem and was wondering why the freak everyone keep talking about this. Until I looked it up a few minutes ago (before watching this vid) and totally understand now.

Some of it is because some people are trying to get back at their EX (pokemon) instead of actually liking the game for TemTem's merits.

Cooperative play through the entire game. That alone is the biggest draw and would make it worth it.
As long as the end game is at least equal to pokemon.
As a student who likes to make games, i think it is just pokemon fans who wanted to legally make a game and be able to change whatever they want. I respect this, and obviously Pokémon will always be the original, but that is no reason to hate them. If anything, a small team with a much lower budget means that TemTem is if anything more respected I my eyes, but Pokémon is more I my eyes.

You forgot the three coolest changes.
1. Temtem can evolve in the middle of battle, much like in the Pokemon anime.
2. if you catch a wild Temtem before knocking out its partner, you can actually send in your new Temtem to fight its former partner and that gives me a rather sadistic level of amusement.
3. The best change of all, the main character ACTUALLY TALKS, and she's actually quite the sassy child.
One of my TemTem evolved in mid battle, it was pretty cool.

When I first heard of TemTem, I honestly thought it was going to be another Digimon versus Pokemon like debate. But after watching this, yeah it's definitely not. It's not even a finished product yet and people are comparing it to literally one of the biggest gaming franchises. Granted it does have some similarities, but really, give the game a chance to stand on its own for a while before comparing it...at least wait for the game to be finished first. We have no idea what's happening behind the scenes on this game so it could be drastically different when it's finished.
my problem with this is that it is trying too hard to mimic pokemon that it forgot to create an identity of its own...Digimon had little in common with pokemon and Yokai Watch had been distinct too but this one looks like a blant pokemon clone...The battle system looks interesting but all the rest screams pokemon mod...

It’s basically Pokémon but it seems to have a level of Wiz101 gameplay in it... early in it’s stages and it already has more beautiful graphics then any Pokémon game we’ve seen in a long time AND new innovations, so it’s worth a shot to buy it. As a plus, if it’s popular, Gamefreak will actually have to start being competent and actually start putting in some form of effort into their games to derail the shifting community money. I just hope they don’t sue it and move worrilessly on with Temtem’s carcass.

I've been hearing a lot of talk about Temtem and decided to learn about how it's different from Pokémon before buying it. I've heard one person say they "want their money back" but that one person also tried to convince people I was part of the "Brotherhood of Nod" which isn't even a real thing, so I might just buy it and learn to like it despite them. XD
Also, I think Crystal might be based on both Rock and Steel.
I'm also gonna go ahead and say my piece on the stuff you've mentioned:
The stamina feature reminds me a bit of other MMOs, namely Wizard101. In that game, you start every battle with one pip and you use the pips to cast spells. Every turn you gain one pip (or a Power Pip, but that's a whole other can of worms) and this means that a valid strategy is skipping a turn and tanking some damage just for one extra pip that you would need to use a more powerful spell, like Leprechaun or Ghoul.
As for the whole thing about it being better than Pokémon, I SOMEWHAT agree with you. I wouldn't say it's better than Pokémon, but it certainly shows potential to be a rival to the Pokémon franchise. Though, I highly doubt it will. It'll be more like Rivals of Aether, Brawlhalla and the like are to Smash Bros.
My major issue with it is its world...It may be (slightly)mechanically different than Pokemon but the rest of it is just a pokemon game ...They are like animals(not outlandish monsters of a different dimensions or demons like yokais) and they are captured by you ( a tamer/trainer to fight gym/dojos...The influential monster francises that rivalled pokemon were distinct of it enough and had various inspirations ....They were not even created to rival pokemon...This one looks like a corky pokemon mod with a slightly deeper battle system and new monsters...

To me it's more then different enough then pokemon.
1 - The story is WAY better written and more interesting.
2 - The dialogues have just the right amount of sarcasm and forth wall breaking.
3 - The removal of accuracy and having a set number of turns for the status removes the bullshit aspect of pokemon.
4 - All battles being double are WAY more strategic.
5 - I can play it without needing to buy a Nintendo console.
6 - The animations are good.
7 - It's done by a company that actually cares about the game and don't lie to it's costumers.
8 - It's not from Game Freak. Yes, this is the same point as before, but I consider it important to say that again.

Uh, I'm assuming you mean the specific region's starters (such as the Tepig line, Snivy line, and Oshawott line for Unova) as I'm pretty sure the Kanto starters at least are catchable through Island Scan in Gen VII. Also, you can catch the middle evolution of both sets of X and Y starters in Friend Safari (Charmeleon and Braixen, Ivysaur and Quilladin, and Wartortle and Frogadier).

@@minitoast6812 Idk, not being able to catch them is what made them special. I always had my starter on my main party when I played even when better options of the same type popped up. Making them catchable as random encounter, at least before the end, loses that uniqueness. They just become generic goons versus your companion.

Same type of battle : turn-based combat with the same types of moves, exactly the same stats, the same types of abilities and the same type of elemental type matchups. I can give you the fact that every battle is a double battle and that there's no RNG though.
Same story : you are a 1x year old kid finally getting to go on his own journey with (insert name of the creatures) to be the (very) best. To do that, you have to win against several people recognized for their strength. You will in this journey encounter an evil organization that tries to piss people off, but you will thwart their plans every time they cross your path. Also, you have a rival.
They even have shinies and even the music is similar for fuck's sake !

Pros of Temtem:
- The game is fluid in a sense. It' MMO, they can add global events, side quests, daily tasks, seasonal stuff, etc. Making it a better experience.
- Luma is a shiny with guaranteed good stats. That means you can actually use it in competitive plays.
- Battling is purely tactical and rely little on type matchup and level advantage. You need to actually think of your moves in order to win.
- Temtem devs are pokemon lovers, they literally take advice from pokemon fan base and add what the players want in pokemon but didnt receive.
Cons:
- Online game comes with being laggy
- Temtem design is less cute than pokemon.
- Being harder can be a turn-off.
- Currently only available on PC.
That can all change for the better so I think temtem will end up pretty successful

Temtem actually evolve after being caught for a certain amount of levels. For example, Crystle will evolve at level 29 if you get it at level 1, but will evolve at level 30 if caught at level 2

I just want to add some stuff that non-players will naturally miss (since it’s mostly info given by devs on their patch-notes, etc…):
- Temtem has many weekly activities to do in order to get special resources and money
- Temtem will have in-game tournaments organizable by players at release
- PVP is more interesting than it seems: there is variety in the meta, there is no RNG in *any* form, and competitive matches are 5v5 (you start with a team of 8 and go through pick-and-ban phases - Draft mode - ending up with a team of 5); there is also a *competitive ladder* and there will be rewards linked to it in the future
- There will be both an “Arcade Bar” and a Battle Tower post-release
- Last but not least, *it is CROSS-PLAY and CROSS-PLATFORM* ! At the current state of the game, Temtem is available both on PC (Steam/Discord) and on PS5, and it is *confirmed* we will get Xbox and Switch versions at release (Early Access rules on those platforms do not allow Temtem to be on their shops before release)
Of course there are a lot of other small and big aspects I’d like to mention (good story, dialogues, exploration element of the map, challenging AI especially in the end game…), but this is what most people would like to know before even considering Temtem, in my opinion.

The Sleep status effect makes total sense in most other RPG's it works like that. Also makes real world sense too, if your asleep there's a high chance a physical attack would snap you out of it.

But if it manages to stick around it could get big enough to matter for future releases. We know Nintendo cares about selling consoles and a real competitor outside their control might just be enough to get them to back off on this aggressive monetisation train they seem dead set on.
We have yet to see a game successfully put together the pieces in a way that captures the game play Pokemon offers without going full Fakemon. In that sense Pokemon has had no real competition since the early days.

cornspoon Loomian legacy came out before tem tem and implemented the stamina bar and the typings Neutral, melee, toxic, wind, mental and Neutral are also in Loomian legacy and as I mentioned before it came out before temtem, additionally Loomian legacy has online trading and an online battling system, it has many different types of loomians, there is a mastery system implemented which lets you level up your player to get different rewards, there is a rallying ranch (basically the pokemon daycare but you somewhere between 3-9 unhatched loomians of the same species as the “leader” loomian) additionally you saying it is a roblox game is laughable because Nintendo copyrighted 2 roblox pokemon games (Project pokemon and Pokemon brick bronze) which proves nintendo saw that these games had quality and were actual competitors

I think Temtem is probably going to be the thing adult Pokemon fans really want. Pokemon is, always has been, and basically always will be a kid's game, meaning they will have to make sure it's friendly to all ages, which of course may mean things such as difficulty are slightly sacrificed for accessibility, which to some people can be a letdown for understandable reasons. Being more challenging with more variety in things Pokemon doesn't have is helpful for the older generation who looks for more in games. I also hope that Temtem potentially being Pokemon's first competition in a while will help motivate GF to put the effort fans want into the next mainline Pokemon games to bring enjoyment to everyone, not only the ones who play mostly just for fun like myself but also the more hardcore ones as well. I do and always will love Pokemon and I hope that Temtem could be the thing that helps fulfill a gap that Pokemon may have left open after some left the francise at any time as well as potentially bring people back to the series or bring in those who want to try it out for themselves.

if you are talking about Platypet, the story behind that is more interesting than just "Pokemon rip off haha". it was a fan made that A FAN bought the rights to and submitted it through the Kickstater as their own Temtem fan submission. it was a backer tier that people could have their own custom Temtem in the game

The only thing I don't like about Temtem are the bland designs. The rest is ok I guess.
The temtem designs can't really compete against 2 decades of expertise. Not every Pokemon design is a winner but you can always tell what they are designed after and what kind of type they could be. With temtem, you have no idea.

@@goldmemberpb It really doesn't need to compete, jush show its own identity, and that is hard. Sure, with time and expertise you can execute it better, but it isn't really a rule, nor it's an excuse to be an indie developer for the lack of identity/design. I don't doubt that these creatures were designed with love, but the execution say: "We are not sure what is a temtem, we just wanted to do a Pokemon game with a twist, and needed creatures to fill it".
Pokémon like Metagross and Dragapult don't have one exact inspiration, and that's why they work better. Dragapult has many inspirations with a fitting backstory, and Metagross is a giant iron psychic spider, which is instantly cool. But Temtem look so similar, and they have creatures which are literally 'flying pig' and 'digital robot'. They don't really experiment with concepts and mythology like Pokémon does.

I agree that it doesn't feel different enough to me. The Yo Kai Watch and Dragon Quest Monsters games felt different enough that they were really fun self contained experiences that didn't have me constantly comparing them.

So the competitive scene may not be a fest of spamming and swapping while everyone uses the exact same creatures, moves and strategies they copied from Smog-on... I already like it.
I love that there's no natures. I didn't mind abilities, would rather be without them, but this is like they took the best elements of pokemon and few if no bad elements of pokemon.

I get the hype -even though TemTem is riding the "anti-Gamefreak" argument.
However, my main complaint is not that it's too similar to Pokemon; it's actually the opposite. It doesn't copy Pokemon enough in the right areas and that really makes it comes out "simple"
The art style is too "app store" and the Temtem designs don't really hold a candle to Sugimori's or any of the other artists at Gamefreak. Yo-kai Watch has better designs and style. Also I don't really understand why it needs to be an MMO if you can't do anything substantial or meaningful with it, it's just people running around in your single-player game.
I don't say all that just to be mean or to hate on Temtem. I wish it performs well and it grabs even a fraction of Pokemon fans has its own.

There are only a handful of Pokemon who's design actually sticks out to me, but the vast majority of them are... kind of meh or just downright facepalm worthy.
So yes, TemTem design can hold a candle up to Pokemon design, especially since there are only 84 TemTem currently, compared to what Pokemon started with, and they feel about the same too me design wise as any Pokemon.
But, design is a VERY subjective thing, what one person likes, someone else will hate... sooo eh X-D
Same with style. You forget that WoW's style was, and still is VERY popular though, so dismissing it and using that as a reason for it not being as good as Pokemon... is wrong.
What will ultimatly set TemTem apart is its world, and mechanics, and so far, it has done quite a bit in that regaurd. Stamina managment is a HUGE game changer along side Holding and so far I have actually been likeing it over the PP usage Pokemon has, quite a bit actually.
As for feeling different, I think TemTem feels MUCH more different than Pokemon already. Pokemon cannot evolve and level up mid fight, learning new moves in the middle of an intense fights. You can't revive and 100% heal your whole team with a single item between check points. Pokemon suffers from move spam, why use anything else? TemTem gives you a reason to use something else, and forces you to make the most of your moves and decide if you want to overexert your TemTem, or swich it out for a fresh one and give it a rest, it gives it a more realistic feeling to battles. In Pokemon shows and movies Pokemon DO exert themselves and get tired, but in the games, this is not the case. TemTem's Stamina system gives you that feeling.

Temtem is great! I’ve enjoyed it more then any Pokemon game since Black and White. If you haven’t given it a try (or haven’t played since EA launch) I recommend giving it another shot, totally different from where it was 12 months ago.

Crystal has it's similarities with rock and steel but yeah I agree, it's a much more mystical sort of type than rock.

I grow up on pokemon so i'm on teame pokemon but i'm still gonna play temtem.
Temtem is interesting, and I’ll probably check it out when it fully releases, but I really don’t get the hype and expectations that this will rival Pokémon. Yeah its too soon to fully tell wether it will or will not actually be a competitor to Pokémon like Digimon and yugioh were, but the key word there is *were*. Both tried, both eventually lost out and mostly vanished with Pokémon still the champion.
The main issue I have with Temtem, is the look of the game. It doesnt really have that charm and the creatures lack creativity. They all basically look the same and their evolutions barely change, unlike charmander who becomes charzard and looks very different while still keeping the idea that those two Pokémon are related. Overall... its very underwhelming right now and feels like you are playing an IOS or Android app game with Miis as the characters... I do hope it passes expectations, but so far Im not really that excited.
As someone playing the game right now, the animations are amazing and the battles feel incredibly fluid. However I do agree I'm not a fan of being evolutions. However I have hopes they will continue to improve.
I'm afraid that the Hype of the fanbase goes more in the line of "i'm mad at GF", "Maybe GF would lear" or "Pokemon need competition" that "Temtem is a good game by itself" (And the game is indeed interesting).
The game certainly tit lack "something" that make it stand more, specially if you have played others Pokemon-like game/rip off, that make it feel it more of the same, but i guess is fine if Pokemon is the only monster taming game you played.
Just to add something to this, Neither Digimon nor Yu-gi-oh were ever going against Pokémon to try and be the better franchise, they merely jumped the hype train to try and make a quick buck of the success of Pokémon. It's to soon to tell, but Temtem is actually the only and first game to ever try to go head to head with pokémon. I've been playing the game and currently 46 hours in, and i can honestly say, it's *Currently* not better or worse then Pokémon. It has a "unique" story, and many of it's features are familiar, but not direct copies. I'm enjoying it so far and the community i belong to is a fun one.
Mostly the artist to blame. If they make the characters more anime like, and adopt a more pokemon like design, the game will improve by leaps and bounds. However, the game is incredibly polished at it's fundamentals and is a fun ass game considering only 10 or so devs are working on it. Gamefreak with it's astonishingly juggernaut of profits still cannot produce a game as good as TemTem.
Competition is always good for us consumers doesnt matter if the designs are poop as long as temtem succeeds thats a win for us because it means GF will hopefully get worried and put more effort into pokemon which lets be honest it needs.
Maybe wind is super effective on toxic because of the carbon cycle. Carbon dioxide buildup will become toxic in the body, but we can normally handle that just by breathing it out, and breathing is kind of like wind. And plants convert carbon dioxide into oxygen which is an important part of the atmosphere
Crystal being strong against mental could be a reference to the idea of healing crystals, since they supposedly harness and control spiritual energy. Or maybe even to radioactive minerals and metals, and their effect on the nervous system (and on all of the systems, tbh. I guess in that case you could say that radioactivity causes death and thus causes brain activity to cease)
I kinda dislike that art style of the game, feels like a generic deviant art fakedex in some cases

I know this is a meme but here is the thing I want to take a moment to show that Roblox creators brought out 2 great competitors for Pokemon (Project Pokemon and Pokemon brick bronze) both these games were played a lot in roblox and Nintendo/game freak actually copyrighted their games since they saw the quality in them and saw that they are real competitors

I think the reason crystal, unlike its counterpart rock, is good against fire and mental is because it charges energy, and since fire and especially mental is energy then it absorbs it (that was longer than i thought it would be)
Let’s be honest here, if Pokémon SwSh was released as a new IP today, it would get praised by its potential, but ultimately fall into irrelevancy for underdelivering and being unpolished. Pokémon games get away with A LOT because of the franchise’s past successes and loyal fanbase.
Another major difference is temtem shinies which are called lumas in the game. A luma temtem caught in the wild will always have 3 random max EVs.
