In the 2005 European cup final Liverpool were down 3-0. At half time the crowd roared out You'll never walk alone, their support was a big factor in the comeback. So inspiring
Proud to say i watched that live on the tele all d way in Malaysia.. it was probably 4am when it started.. gotta admit, i did feel like going back to sleep after half time.. but i stayed and watched till the end.. one of best decisions I've ever made

Being german and living in Hamburg, I still have an eye on Liverpool because Kevin Keegan played for Liverpool in the 70s and the Hamburg SV afterwards. Anfield has an atmosphere you`ll not find often. Great club.

I grew up in Liverpool, was a kid on the kop and loved Kevin Keegan when I was young. I was devastated when he left for Hamburg. I have had an eye on, and a soft spot for Hamburg ever since. I am kind of you in mirror image.
My dad was a Liverpool fan so I asked my cousins to sing this at his funeral. Beautiful song ❤️

My aunt was originally from Liverpool and we played ferry cross the mersey she had left England 40yrs before and never got back but it meant a lot to everyone there

This was in Melbourne Australia with 95,000 people.. I went to the Adelaide game with 70,000 people singing this in the new Stadium & it was soooooo loud.. After 50 years i got to sing this with my Mum & Dad who were born in Liverpool.. Mum only has a few weeks left to live now, its a memory i will cherish..
Liverpool is an English club and this was in Australia. Imagine that?. They also had similar greetings when they played their Malaysian fans in a 81,000 capacity stadium in Malaysia several years back. A legendary football club indeed! 👍🏻
I found somewhere that Liverpool is like the 6th most popular football club in the world with over 92 millions fans. Real Madrid 252 million, Barcelona 250 million, Manchester United 142 million, Juventus 104 million, Chelsea 93 million then Liverpool 92 million. How accurate that is I am not sure.
@@kingwacky184 Not sure if that data is accurate anymore cause both Barcelona and Real Madrid are not as big as they used to be anymore. I believe English clubs like Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal as well as German clubs like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have grown in size recently and could be much larger. Not too sure as well?
@@cleanenergyinside1921 Definitlely La Liga sides are falling in popularity, still probably the most known right now, but Premier League sides and some German clubs will definitely overtake at some point because it's just way more popular of leagues around the globe.
There actually was a stat showing that Manchester United had most social media post relevant to them compared to Real Madrid and Barcelona, so those two have already been overtaken.
Liverpool and other clubs should also be following in coming years.
@@kingwacky184 The English Premier League 2018-2019 season had a 3.2 billion audience alone. Many of them are probably not eternally loyal to a particular club but I would say the big English clubs today have a much higher number of fans globally.

I've been going to Anfield for over 50 years, standing on the Kop and then seated, and this song still gives me goosebumps. Nothing better!

@@iainsteele5737 I’m a season ticket holder at Anfield the YNWA anthem always gives me goosebumps! European nights are always phenomenal atmosphere, but the atmosphere vs smaller league teams isn’t always the best IMO. (Like any club vs smaller teams)

I'm a Man Utd supporter and Liverpool are probably our biggest rivals, however, my grandfather was buried to this tune so it means a great deal.

My first visit to Anfield as a Leeds fan in the players' seats and we lost 4-0, it was a pleasure after hearing this for the first time live. I had tears. I sat next to Ian Rush and he smiled at me. A privilege.

This was a preseason tour match in australia (literally the other side of the planet), so wasnt even in a competition. Just shows the passion of Liverpool fans.
The people of Liverpool’s relationship with the national govt has long been difficult, and not of their own making. To paraphrase that old favourite … They tried to bury them, not knowing Scousers were seeds.
Hillsborough is a permanent scar, the more so because of the awful cover ups after the tragedy. It’s a left-leaning city, with a strong ethos of shared pain and joy and moving forward together, that the club embodies. #YNWA is an approach to life that leaves everyone richer. A relationship with Liverpool the club cannot but be an deep emotional one.

I saw a film on Amazon or Netflix about Liverpool fans in Rwanda. They have experienced a lot of pain too and the song means a lot to them. I'd recommend you watch it. All the best.

I played it at my mother's funeral, this very version, in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2017. We all cried. It's so majestic.

This is often played a funerals in my family. It was played at my wedding. Singing this at a game connects me to my Dad even though he died over 40 years ago. It’s a religious experience every time.

Glad to hear that. It must be true. I'm a Huge Liverpool fan from Mauritius and we just came second in the Premier League but I admit, City is the best team in Europe but they fell short somewhere.

I was living in USA, when I heard about the Hillsborough disaster on the radio I was devastated, it happened in my home town. 97 lives lost 96 killed that day one man died years later after being in a coma from being crushed, this became their anthem . You'll never walk alone...RIP😞🌹🌹🌹🌹
You're right it is like a prayer. It became even more significant after the Hillsborough disaster - there are several dramas and documentaries that you could check out if you want to find out exactly why it is so powerful.
It was pre season game in Australia and they did amazing, but my favourite is after they came back from 3-0 down against Barcelona the kop and players singing together was something I'll never forgot
I don't think that the impact of this song hits you until you hear the Liverpool supporters singing their hearts out. An old friend who went to Liverpool to support the opposing team said even the supporters of his team joined in and he wasn't ashamed to say he along with many others had tears on their faces at the end of it. My late Mum loved this song and would watch them play football on the tv just to hear the fans singing. Your reactions were marvellous sweetheart, I watched this twice as I love it so much. My husband's late Dad was from East Ham in London and they have always supported West Ham but agree going to Liverpool is an experience not to be missed. My Dad was stationed in East Ham during the blitz as Anti Aircraft artillery. He was a life long LFC supporter and he loved the people so much down there that when I was growing up and started going to the match my second team should always be West Ham !!
Imagine the first time this was sang at an English football ground ie Old Trafford soon after 1958 Munich disaster where 23 perished . It was sung for several weeks as a mark of respect can you imagine the emotion there remembering greats like Big Dunc, Roger Byrne. Tommy Taylor, Eddie Colman, Geoff Bent, David Pegg and Billy Whelan. Lads that died in an awful disaster , a team that was loved for its brilliant attacking football, Sir Bobby still says Big Dunc was the best player he has ever seen on the football pitch. That would be emotion . That was of course the original from the film carousel in 1945 and gerry never recorded his version to the 60s . It was adopted as a song to inspire then in the 60s by LFC fans when it was first sung it was sang out of heartbreak . RIP the 23

After Liverpool Beat Barcelona in the champions league coming from 3 goals down to win at home by 4 i felt goosebumps watching that Game and when they sang YNWA i almost teared mind you i am South African.....on my bucket list Visiting Anfield.
I first began singing this at Anfield aged 5 in 1980 when my Dad would carry me in on his shoulders every week. Two nights ago, on the 4th anniversary of his passing, I stood on the back row of the Kop with a friend and sang it with as much fervour as I ever did. I have made a note to come back and comment on this thread again in another 42 years. God bless you Dad for building this into my DNA. You'll Never Walk Alone.

There is footage of the late Gerry singing this song with thousands of his fellow Liverpool supporters.Couple of years back before he passed away. It will bring a tear to a glass eye.
I heard this song playing in fifa 21 and didn’t know the magnitude of it until I looked it up on TH-cam… I wasn’t ready for the rush of emotion’s I felt, it immediately put me in tears. Absolutely amazing atmosphere!

Jay, you've probably seen the comments relating the song to the Hillsborough disaster. If you haven't already, have a dig into the history of Liverpool FC, Hillsborough in particular, and it'll show how it relates to facing adversity. The city has been regenerated in part, but has a history of high unemployment and neglect at government level (the Thatcher government of the 80's wanted to put it through a "managed decline", added to which there has been the post-Hillsborough cover-up by the media, the police, and the government.

Thanks for sharing. This was a pre-season friendly at the MCG in 2013 - Melbourne Victory v Liverpool. As a 50 year old Liverpool fan from Scotland I was holding back the tears as this was the first Liverpool game I was able to take my 10 year old son to. So proud. Incredible few minutes.
You need to understand the tradgedies of Liverpool's past, the sadness, the pain, the fight for justice as well as the pride and glory. Though you walk through a storm. It goes way deeper than the football. And you dont need to feel it all, all the time, but in those moments, it goes a little deeper. It doesnt mean more than anyone elses team, it just goes a little deeper. I’d recommend when they sang after Liverpool beat Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League semi final - you really get a feel for the passion of the fans.

I'm not really the biggest football fan and I've only been to a few games over the years, but because Liverpool is the team my family supports, I know every word to this by heart and will proudly belt it out with everyone else.
Watching this from home doesn't do justice to the power and energy you feel from actually being there, and even though I say that, watching this video I still get the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end, proper chills up my back hearing this song sung by so many and with such love and dedication.

I surprised my son for his 30th birthday in 2010 with a trip to Liverpool to see his club play at Anfield. Like you, Jayvee, I was blown away when the whole stadium (except maybe the away fans lol) sang all the words to this song. Totally amazing. Liverpool won too. It's been a great experience learning about the team and the beautiful game this past decade. Thank you Mike. Oh and I'm a Beatle maniac so I made the most of those Liverpool memories too.
Anfield is a fortress. Very rarely does Liverpool lose at Anfield. The fans are the 12th man on the pitch with their timely support and encouragement.
The power and passion of Liverpool FC is global.
That song has won Liverpool so many games and trophies over the years that it should have a squad number. It has such a galvanizing and inspirational message. From a dyed in the wool Evertonian.
That's the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) in Australia during a tour. It's great to see so many Aussie fans enjoying themselves, but for the full emotional experience you should watch & listen to an Anfield crowd (especially at a European match).
This used to be sung by fans at most clubs. One of the best renditions I've heard was at White Hart Lane when Spurs won the UEFA Cup in 1984 and it was coming only from the fans.
And this was a pre-season game in Ausralia, but Aussies did very good job singing the song. As it happens Liverpool FC is my club as well so I´ve been singing the song few times myself. Albeit this is a very special song, almost everything sounds quite cool when tens of thousands of people sing together!
I'm a Liverpool fan who has travelled the world and tried all sorts of adrenaline fuelled experiences. I've been in some incredible situations and had amazing moments and still, nothing has ever made the hair on the back of my neck stand or filled me with such excitement as standing in the kop on a European night, listening to that crowd sing with you does. Truly incredible.

As a Liverpool fan since 1974 this was the greatest day of my life as it was the first time Liverpool came to Australia 24 of July 2013 for a pre season game against Melbourne victory who were coached then by Ange postecoglou the current Celtic boss! 95000 people and the stadium sold out in 90 minutes.

Borrusia dortmund sing it as well and you will find out that Gerry and the pacemakers sang it first in 1959 but it was adopted as liverpools antherm after the 1965 fa cup win

It was then adopted by Liverpool fans because it was played pre game for many weeks because at the time Liverpool played the top 10 songs in the chart at the time pre game
I always tear up when I hear this song, especially if it's Gerry and the Pacemakers. The crowds backup makes it even more moving. Especially bearing in mind the Hillsborough disaster.

@@dianerogers8805 I got a ticket to Liverpool Atletico on a Thursday night (not Champions league, but still) about 20 minutes before kickoff in 2010. Getting out to the stands, seeing the pitch, and then hearing and singing the whole thing was truly an unforgettable moment! I had a ticket to the Chelsea match on Sunday, but planned to watch this one at a pub. I lucked out, and ended up seeing it live!
Watch YNWA after beating Barcelona 2019. There's a LOT of competition for the best YNWA, but this gets my vote.

I was there that night with 95,000 other LFC fans. We sang and we cried and we didn't care that we won, for thousands of us it was the first time we were seeing our beloved LFC play.
Liverpool fc fans are a reflection of Liverpool people, loyalty to the bitter end no matter what, we are a family and we stick together, that’s why none of us will ever walk alone

This video shows the global support that Liverpool, like all the big soccer clubs around the world can garner, but unlike the others, we have YNWA. Uplifting as a song and if you catch the lyrics and read them it is pure poetry. Imagine, as a player, waiting in the tunnel before each match and hearing this. As a fan who has stoodon Liverpool's KOP for over 45years, it still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up... every time !!
This song always makes me cry. I always knew it from the Jerry Lewis MDA telethon before I heard it in Carousel. I only recently discovered how it was used by this football club. Goosebumps.

I think deep down in this intense club rivalry, there is a mutual respect between LFC and MUFC, not that many of us would admit it. Fixture list comes out and the first two games I look for are the ones against UTD, forget all the Derby's there is no rivalry like these two titans of football...........in England at least, I know I have just tempted the old firm to start banging their drums and the North London lot are still trying to work out what a big club is ;)

As a United fan u will know this was first sung after the Munich Disaster at OT in 1958 , it was from the film Carousel in 1945. Gerry never recorded it until the mid 60s and it was taken by LFC as their anthem, it should mean an awful lot to United fans and we should never forget
@@willrichardson1809 lifelong United fan , season tickets holder for 12 years of that , given up following now as too expensive but yes we hate them but its because of the dominance they had n the 80s , a lot of hatred is still in Liverpool as they lost a lot of dock work to Manchester when the ship canal was built , most of that all gone but the dislike still there . You will also know if you respect United that YNWA was first sung at OT in 1958 soon after the Munich disaster as a mark of respect to the 23 who perished. Gerry and his pacemakers didnt even do his recording (which LFC adopted) until the mid 60s , the original is from the film Carousel in 1945 . United fans sang it for several months as respect to the boys , but then stopped as wanted to move on , not sure that was right decision but hey . The busby babes will always be heroes to me and never saw them play
@@nickedwards2904 I actually did not know that I am ashamed to say, I started to be a United fan in the seventies when the Greenhoff brothers were playing for them. Funnily enough it was the fact my brother hated them so much (Liverpool fan) that drew me towards them. Thankyou for teaching me something, just proves we are never too old to learn

I'm 66 now and have been a REDS fan for 60 years. I made sure my son was an LFC supporter because I married an Evertonian. I still cry when I hear our anthem sung by the greatest fans on earth.

I get goose bumps even though I am not a Liverpool supporter , the Hillsborough disaster was tragic 93 Liverpool fans died , loved Gerry and the Pacemakers growing up saw them on stage

The people of Liverpool have great spirit and unity. They have undergone very tough times over the centuries. During World War 2 they suffered greatly under the Nazi bombing because most of the protective resources were used for the south of England and the London area. So many great music bands came out of Liverpool during the 1960s and they were young people growing up while their city was being rebuilt.
A prayer indeed, this was sung as a memorial song in remembrance to a tragedy in the 80's at Hillsborough football stadium. Please look it up to realise the meaning of why everyone is singing along, it's not because they list a game but because so many lives were lost in that day.

Liverpool travelled to Australia for this game. Even the Australian team fans sang along too. This is one of the greatest world sports anthems. My sport is Rugby Union, my local team is English, but I have supported Wales on a national level since I was 16.....that's 55 years. The Welsh RU anthem is close to You'll Never Walk Alone. Worth checking out, I think.

I was at this game! Melbourne, Australia. In a foreign country 96,000 people all singing in unison to a club from the other side of the world. Absolutely spine tingling and my personal MCG highlight even though I’ve been to some pretty special games there

I was living in England in 2001 and went to anfield with a friend who’s a Liverpool supporter, when I first heard the entire stadium singing this song it was love at first sight… since then I keep following and supporting the reds although I don’t live in England anymore. It was the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in sports. I’ve been to many stadiums and there’s something different and special about anfield, I just don’t know how to explain, you gotta go there and feel it… the connection between the club and the fans is like a mother’s love for their children.
My son was a Liverpool supporter, this was played at his funeral!
