    I have a VZ SV6 Alloytec 190 and one of my coils pretty much exploded and loss of power running on 3 cylinders shortly after i got home from the supermarket after deciding to nurse it home the "check powertrain" came up on the digital display before i found out it was the coil i put a scanner through to the OBD port which came up with 3 codes for injectors and then found out from a single coil it had collapsed the ECU which wasn't repairable after replacing all the coils and getting the ECU replaced the expense nearly gave me a heart attack lol! Great vid man!

    First and foremost id like to suggest get your battery tested/replaced it might start the vehicle but may not have enough power to run the vehicle efficiently (the powertrain problem i had) how i found that out was i replaced the sparkplugs and coils like old mate suggested and the problem was still there eventually over time the battery drained to a point i could no longer start the car so i replaced the battery and voila its been 2 months now and the problem hasnt returned

      So you heard rattling come from engine for a few seconds? Especially from a cold start when not driven after a few hours.

    I just bought a real cheap vz adventra and the car yard guy told me there was a timing chain issue I bought a obd2 scanner and it came up no codes so if you are right and its a key, plugs or coil packs you are going to save me so much work although ive already bought everything I need to do the timing chain job but it will eventually need to be done one day atleast I have the parts ready I did notice my keys look very old so ill try that first and ill probably put in a new set of plugs aswell thanks for the tips dude

    hey mate, my ve got same motor as vz. I had low oil error, change the senor and it was good for 6 months and came back on, got replacement from supplier and got few more months b4 it came back on, been drive 18 months with engine check light on, replaced again, but stay on. funny as it does not show code anymore, as I deleted it on my reader. I can clear log and it go away from a minute to a couple hours. been told its a serious problem with oil presser but been driving over 2 years like this. tried pulling battery out for few hours

      Hmmm I haven’t heard of that before! I’m not too sure what to tell you.. do you have any oil leaks around the engine block? Might be causing your pressure issue

    Hi my vz is playing up you can get in and start it drive around then turn it off it won't start and when your turning the key it doesn't do anything then i leave it sit for a hour or two go back and it will up again do you have any idea what could be the problem i have changed the key and barrel checked the battery and starter motor and i don't know what eles could be?

    Powertrain issues are not always this .. I just worked on a VZ commodore with this motor .. powertrain is to do with transmission and also driveshaft .. it can be coil packs however I pulled the coil packs in this car I’m working on and tested coil packs with multimeter as they were not that old .. on taking my customers car for a drive after testing coil packs .. gapping spark plugs properly .. the car was going clunk clunk clunk could hear it and feel it with arm rested on centre console .. I then put car up on ramps looked at the centre bearing it was stuffed … I then took it for another drive as soon as I put my foot down hard thump thump thump …. Power train light comes on… centre bearing issue as powertrain is driveshaft being unbalanced causes an error code vibration through driveshaft .. I bought a genuine centre bearing smashed the drive shaft apart .. and installed a genuine centre bearing on driveshaft cost $70 on eBay .. I recommend genuine as it’s an important part … anyway I had RAA roadside come along and tell my customer it was a coil pack issue .. when it wasn’t they even took it for a drive really bizzare they didn’t hear the clunk … doesn’t surprise me RAA miss-diagnosed I applied for a job at QLD equivalent and was told By RACQ I was over qualified in Automotive that they didn’t want technicians qualified in the trade was quite bizzare that job application

    Hi. Mine only appear when driving fast or accelalarating fast while changing gears, especially gear number and five. When I stop ...it disappears. Then start doest not appear. Sometimes I can drive two hours then shows up...sometimes does not .

    Hey mate i just had the timing chains replaced on my vz commodore, and it drove perfect after instal for about a 20 Minute drive except i got a powertrain message on dash. Then the next morning started it up and it was running like total shit like it was missing on 1 or 2 cylinders... had the coils replaced and spark plugs.
    It came abit better still backfires and basically is acting crazy idels up and down by itself at times or just starts reving higher and higher.

      I could be wrong but was the gears for the timing chain lined up properly? That might be causing the issue

      Powertrain issues are also centre bearing on the driveshaft .. the centre bearing is easy enough to replace swapped it out within an hour .. powertrain are also transmission and driveshaft problems … the car will bang as you are getting as the centre bearing is thumping around … I got a genuine gm centre bearing on eBay for around $60 … this video along with all others who make these videos not one of them talk about centre bearing causing powertrain error .. I replaced the centre bearing and powertrain warming went away

    New:
    Fuel Filter
    Battery
    Coil Pack
    Spark Plugs
    Plug Wires
    Injectors (6)
    Fuel Pump
    Mass Flow Sensor
    Idle Air Control
    EGR sensor
    Throttle Position sensor
    FLASHED ECM
    OBD2 shows ERROR. And runs like dogscrub after "Hunting" for idle.
    After each ECM Flash shows different codes for parts ALREADY replaced. Always a different code. Is there a Powertrain reset?
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance from America-

    Hey mate I've got a V6 Ve Calais 2006, I've had the stability control, the ABS, Brake and Alternator light flash on my dashboard, but not at the same time. I checked the error code and it came back with powertrain error code. Would any of the issues you showed cause all of those errors or am I looking at a new powertrain module?

    Hi, I have had a resent powertrain error. I have replaced all coil packs and plugs but the error still comes up and the car runs rough. I have been told by a friend that one of the injectors could be blocked. Do you think it is possible. Hope you can help. Cheers.

    I bought a Holden crewman,and 1 week later I got engine light on check powertrain,and I'm worried I've bought a problem car,it has 339000 km on it too,well I bought it off a mechanic I know and I took it back and he said he'd change the points and leads I think ,I had an idea it could be the coil,but I don't know,I'm hoping for the best

    I had that motor in my 2008 VE and I sold it with 360,000 and never change the coil packs or the timing chain. Funny I had mechanic do the services up to around 200k. He was shocked that didn't have an oil leak. Around that time money got tight and I started using semi synthetic oil. I only change alternator, starter and brake master cylinder. I purchase second hand ex cop car with 60,000 and around 6 months old.

    I have the message power train.
    Symptoms hit bump speedo stops working fault comes.
    Hit bump speedo starts working.
    Plus trans stops automatically shifting.
    Can change gears moving the tee bar.
    No codes. Checked plug and trans shifter switch.
    Did get fault once in heavy rain.
    Ordered new trans shifter switch and trans speed sensor.
    I will let you know if it gets sorted.

      Have you checked your spark plugs? This could be a big reason why your car isn’t turning over

      I buy one new spark plug and remove ignition lead and put new plug in lead and attached to -ve and crank the engine but there is no spark in new spark plug

      How is your battery? If you have replaced everything else it might be the battery doesn’t have enough charge

    Hi I had this problem the mechanic fixed it or so we thought a month later coil no 4 went and then last week coil no 1 went . We put new plugs in also . Any idea why they keep going even after a short time ? Even after mechanic fixed it straight away the power train light came on again I took it back he said it will be fine but it wasn’t .

      I think they had an issue with cheaply made coil packs that kept playing up. Might be best to try some aftermarket ones. That may fix the issue

      Ok yeah my mechanic has put the good ones in about $100 a coil And as soon as I left the carpark the light came straight back on . I took the battery negative terminal off for 10 minutes today the first time i started car the check powertrain msg went but when I turned key off and back on it was straight back on .... really doing my head in this one

      Did you use the right spark plugs? Or More then one coil might have been faulty, you could have a vaccume leak somewhere or didn't replace the intake manifold gasket or get it on properly, or it might have just thrown up the code and is running in a kinda safe mode.

    hey I've had a powertrain light come on for over a year. Holden told me it was a oxygen sensor but after replacing all four sensors no fix. since then over intervals I've had all platinum plugs changed and two new keys. plus I just had a ignition problem which we changed key and coil. still no fix. Any other suggestions

      There is a possibility that your oil pressure sensor maybe on the way out, not too sure if that would set off the PowerTrain error. Other than that it might be best to check out some of the local forums about this issue, they can be very helpful

    My question our 06 vz commodore just all of a sudden won't start..cranks wants to put won't, I've put new fuel pump, new fuel filter , coils spark plugs, start motor, crank sensor.....still won't start ... A mate told me put oil on the bottom of the crack sensor ...after relazing you don't I took it out cleaned it.

    Don't know if anyones gonna answer this but I got a 2005 commy, clean as can be, brought it a couple days ago and it has afew issues. Firstly the battery was dead when I brought it(was jumpstarted to get home) it is absolutely clean, not a shitbox. it wasn't going into d, on the dash it says low gear when I'm in drive, same with all other gears. Secondly when I flat foot it (in d) the gears don't change it just acts funny. Thirdly as of 30 mins ago it came up with check powertrain. Could these problems be from the battery being dead? or is it another issue, it drives fine when I'm very gentle on throttle and it can move when I go 40-50% but 100% no go. Not a car head would really like a second opinion before I call a mechanic to come look. Thanks

      same problem with my vz, itll be ECU like mine. I changed over coil packs and spark plugs....still same problem. got second hand ECU and it fixed

      Had powertrain fualt used a scan tool and said one of the o2 sensors where buggered so replaced it and havent had an issue sincs

      I’m not sure why Australian cars have this weird thing that if you change the coils sometimes it doesn’t recognises it’s been done. Have you all tried scanning the car then clearing the issue? Might have to use one of the bigger type of scanners, I just remembered that my basic one doesn’t like scanning vz computers well!

    Hey. My Holden VZ Ute yesterday just came up with this error and the "engine temp hot". Coolant is fine, sparkies, and coils changed one month ago.
    I'm hoping it's the key issue, as the thing is missing the botton covers (bought car 2nd hand). Or temp sensor.
    Would the temp sensor make the car think it's overheating?

      +Zoe Archer hi! Might be worth checking your temp sensor as it may be becoming faulty. Because VZ v6 engines cars have trouble using obdII readers, I’d say try and replace the temp sensor first and see if that’s the solution. Let me know how you go!

      First thing i would've done is make sure to get all the air out of the cooling system, by the bleed valve on top of the radiator, warm your car up and open the valve slowly to let air out- soon as coolant comes out close it up again, be carefull of the hot coolant though. I had that problem with my car, the temp gauge would go up.

    Power Train light just turned on yesterday. It turns on as soon as I put the car into drive or reverse. Car seems perfectly fine but still nervous when driving to buy essentials. Don’t know any good mechanic’s at this moment because of lock down here in NZ. I’m hoping it’s just the key because the buttons on it don’t work. I have to put the key into the door to lock & unlock 🤦🏽‍♂️ Please help me, it’s a courtesy car too that I’ve had for 5 weeks! 😕

    I have a 2006 VZ Crewman showing a SO2 fault (bank 1 Sensor 2) the fault has been there for a few weeks but today it started to run really rough and stalled on me a few times. I put my OBI and the codes read: crank-cam position correlation, multiple engine misfire detected.
    The problem has happened a few times with cylinders 2, 4, and 6 misfiring. I clear the codes then it happens again (instantly) but with cylinders 1, 3, and 5 misfiring so the issue is bouncing from 1 bank of the engine to the other.
    Also the exhaust sounds different since it occurred, almost dronny or like it has a hole directly behind the headers??
    I just purchased this car 2 weeks ago!!! Can anyone help with identifying the fault and what I should do??

    Hi I have a VX SS commodore and recently all warning lights in my dash came on and then I lost speedo fuel gauge had no power windows no indicators and car started running real rough and now I put a fresh battery in the car and when I turn key it makes the tick tick sound when battery is flat what could be my problem

      Yeah it’s definitely worth trying a different battery to see if that fixes the problem. Sometimes it can be the most basic problem and the easiest solution

      It’s possible your battery in your key is going flat. Maybe try that first before getting into could and plugs. Worth a try first!

      Because powertrain is also transmission & driveshaft … I had a roadside come along miss-diagnose a customers car that it was coil packs it wasn’t .. I tested coil packs with multimeter .. I also knew it wasn’t key as brand new key .. the centre bearing on the driveshaft I got a genuine gm one on eBay .. wasn’t hard to replace took me about an hour taking driveshaft out of car … powertrain issue fixed .. if I were you get under the car and look at driveshaft .. you may even be able to hear it coming through the centre console a knock on acceleration .

      +Brad Mobbs well a powertrain error is usually down to coil packs failing. Might be worth disconnecting your battery for about 20 mins then start the car again. May just need the computer in the car to reset.

      Possibly thermostat? might have caused the car to go into protection mode

    I have a vz aloytec holden commodore 2004 and under load when you speed up it judders and revs dont climb unless you plant the foot

      hi mark, by the sounds of it you could have a spark issue or that your fuel filter could need replacing. worst case might be that the fuel pump is on the way out. Have a look and let me know!

    Hey mate, my vz lumina wagon is having an issue where it doesn't crank and doesn't start, generally you just here a loud clicking sound. It will eventually tick over after a number of attempts and turning the key to a certain position and it does on occasion tick over on the first try but more often than not it will take more than 3 attempts.
    Do you think this is a starter motor issue or is it the motor itself?
    I also have the powertrain error message, we replaced the o2 sensor but that only stopped it for about a day, do you reckon it is as you described in your video and is merely the coil packs?

      Hey Luke, this could be your coil packs. Alloytec v6 coil packs were prone to failing early so this could be the issue. Also check the battery in your key, sometimes that could be the issue too. Does your car have an old or new battery?

      Are you sure your main car battery isn't stuffed or not fully charged ?
      A bad or flat battery usually presents itself by not turning over the motor - or only very slowly, whilst making the 'starter relay' simply continuously clicking as you hold the key in the start position.

      Another possibility is a bad earth terminal connection. Either rusted or frayed.

      We ended up changing out the starter motor, seems to have fixed the issue for the moment. Will keep and eye on it, thanks for the feedback I appreciate it.

    im having this issue with my vz when l get to 90 km power check engine train and engine light comes on and idles extremely rough

    i brought a second hand 2004 vz sv6, it has power train error come up took to the machanic he said it was timing chain, had that replaced $2500 later and the powertrain error did not go away, he said the code is now reading cam correlation and its running rough which it wasnt before he did the timing chain, it sat at his shed for 6 weeks and he doesnt know whats wrong with it so i have brought it home, should i try the coil pack or do you think its bigger than this, im over machanics and going to try fix the issue myself

      That mechanic rorted tf out of you man timing chain's shouldn't cost you more then 1500 mostly about the 1300 mark.

    Hi my commodore vz , cylinder #2 misfire, I switch changed plug and coil pack with cylinder # 4 , to make sure . But when restart the engine found again #2 still misfire instead of # 4, what can be problem?

      hi! It sounds like the issue is with cylinder 2 itself, might be worth checking for poor compression. Have you also checked the spark plugs?

      Yes I checked the spark plug, plug look like wet and bit yellow insulator, rest of plugs have white insulator.
