  • A quick 10-second way to easily see if your positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system might have an issue or be restricted on your alloytec. PCV maintenance has known to be the key component to maintaining good longevity of an alloytec engine's life. PCV Maintenance on alloytec engines LY7 LE0 are key to long engine life and prevents leading to timing chain issues or bad oil pressure.

    Blocked pcv valves are a big contributor to timing chain stretch

    I have edited this into the Walkthrough I did four years ago on the Just Commodores Forum.
    I have added the previous videos into the thread as well.
    Solves a few problems that can creep up. Oil leaks is one example.

      Yeah, the first point of leaks we find from unmaintained PCV's in Adventra's brought in to us are at the camshaft sensor seals at the top on the timing cover on the front!

      Just remember if it’s positive pressure though it’s probably blow by from worn piston rings.

    Hi bud I have a 2005 VZ 175 kw ute I use it in burnout comp I've had no dramas with the motor I have spun a lot of people out with it cos they can't believe it still going I've done 7 comps with plus my own fun 😊 my drama is trying to control the transmission from changing gears when I won't it to change do you have any advice on that problem

      Throw HP tuners or EFI live on and adjust some shift settings, ditch all the torque management. Assuming it’s the 5L40 if it’s the 4L60 I’m not too sure.

    I bet the cylinders heads is full of gunk. My pcv was blocked so I cleaned and removed covers to have a look. OMG what a mess.

    Bro, how many pcv valves are there on this Holden Commodore ve 2008 ?? And how to remove them?

    • @AllTerrainAction

      On v6 should be 1 serviceable only the other bank is fixed.

    What tool do you use to take a pcv valve that is going to be removed for the first time. Don't want to crack the plastic cover it's attached to .
    Thanks

    • @AllTerrainAction
      @AllTerrainAction  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We use pliers, multi grips do also work. The very first time you ever pull it out it will require some upward force. Make sure to first remove the plastic cap, there is a little plastic pin you slide on it and it will just lift up that shouldn't require much force. Then once the valve is exposed it has rib that you can grip and pull upwards. It is normal that once you've removed it it will be easier to remove in the future. See our other video about removal in the video description, but generally an easy job. I have found out recently that Alloytecs with gas systems, often the gas cooling lines from the heater tap area and it makes working in that area a pain in the backside.

      Hey what do you think would be the issue if I’ve got NO suction, but also no oil coming over the top?

    • @AllTerrainAction
      @AllTerrainAction  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@randomname3665 not necessarily indicating an issue, can you check your oil pressure using a scan tool? If not try and check it on a cold start, that little period when the engines is idling higher to warm up, check if oil shows itself then. I don’t have enough test samples to say that not seeing oil is an issue, especially if there’s no other signs of issues. If it’s not broken perhaps don’t worry. Should be using 5W/30 or 5W/40 full synthetic anything else, is not recommended. Could also be a sign oil filter could be a little dirty but again only taking a stab in the dark without more info.

    Definitely a faulty pcv they shouldn't allow negative pressures in the crank case

    • @AllTerrainAction
      @AllTerrainAction  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I took this video earlier this year, I remember I was also confused about this, normally when I see negative pressure they are drilled out but when I checked it was just a standard PCV and totally blocked couldn't pass any air through it. We swapped it with another that I had pre-soaked and cleaned it out and this issue immediately went away. I might still have that old PCV in the shed - but you should know they are not one way valves they are hollow inside, with just 3 holes. I wonder if negative pressure is coming from the crankcase vent on bank 2 on the engine the side where there is no valve at all, and by restoring flow to bank 1 its given the fixed result here...

      The negative pressure comes from the intake manifold vacuum while running
      368000kms on mine and it still runs like new
