Matt and Squirrel. The two most hopeless pilots lol. Imagine the announcements. "Ladies and Gents, as you can see, this is Edinburgh. Get used to it. Matt left the pins in the gear so we couldn't retract the wheels."
I like seeing mistakes in videos because no one is perfect like you said but especially for games like flight sim we can sort off laugh it out together which is great and it shows that even two reasonably experienced flight simmers make mistakes
Really enjoyable video guys it's great to see the collaborative effort, FYI CAT2 auto land won't land the plane only CAT3 will. Also f/o side window has no de ice or demisters in the dash so it will always get foggy! Hope this helps and looking forward to more content from you guys!
Lovely video. Finally catching up on a ton of your content on my holiday, enjoying the binge watching! Cheers.. Just seen the landing! Well we walked away which is classic pass
If you were using real-world weather, this is exactly what the weather has been like at EGFF the last few days. I live on the seaside just to the south of RWY 30 and I was out on a run watching the 'fog' (it was just a straight up cloud, we were inside a cloud) rolling in off the Channel. Amazing stuff.
I just watched Matts video and then started watching this one and it was a bit confusing😂😂 for some reason I was shouting Matt you're sitting on squirrel
Some of the back and forth did sound like a cockpit transcript after a disaster. Loved that foggy approach, though. Love to set that up for myself; take off into the soup, navigate and never see the ground again until decision height.
More shared cockpit in the dash 8 it's so majestic in those beautiful skies also love the shared cockpit vids with you and Matt he is is so funny you two combined are hilarious and might I just add keep up the great work and hope to see some more shared cockpit vids in the dash 8 or the plane by Airbus called the A380
Great video Paul and what crazy weather on approach, completely agree with you about leaving mistakes in.I have recently started uploading my flight videos in the sim and they have plenty of mistakes in lol but its a great learning process.
Thank you for choosing FlyBe and I hope we see you again. Our next flight, we will have at your service an engine issue. Have a good day. LOL. Nice video and really funny, please more
If someone hasn't already said it: You guys should be looking at TAF, or "Terminal Area Forecast" information if you guys are wanting to go that realistic. A list of past METARs is available alongside the TAF which gives weather information in 3-4 hour intervals into the future. Hopefully that'll help you guys prevent flying "blind" into IMC like here.
Most modern aircraft use a general purpose RTOS (realtime operating system) pretty much the same thing that is used in factory automation, power stations, ships etc
Paul you can disconnect the autopilot by pressing Z on your keyboard. I recommend mapping the autopilot button to your weapons release button on your hotas :)
During the landing it looked like the GS was guiding the plane to the threshold of the RWY not to the touchdown marker that's why you had trees so close and 3 and then all 4 out of 4 PAPI lights red. Watching this i was like: go around! Go around! And then there was no flare and i expected the nose gear to collapse.
No full autoland on the DH8D, CAT 3 only available manually flown from DA using the HUD. The main reason there's no autoland is that there isn't auto throttle.
DH8D don't have an anti-fog system on the right side window (First officers side) cos of ... stuff :P ... it's a design feature :P On the overhead there's a specific switch for "Captain's side window defog" - there is a distinct lack of "F/O side window" switch ;)
Shouldn't the most qualified person be the pilot? If there's a 6 year old who knows more about flying this plane than he does, the 6 year old should be the pilot. Why does age matter? lol
"Edinburgh Tower this is FlyBe 4508, we forgot to pull the pins on the landing gear so we would like to return to Edinburgh so we can get the pins pulled." - Matt and Paul, March 17th 2017
Flew on a Flybe Dash 8 Q400 twice not long ago, at Southampton airport they taxi'd with 1 engine started and at Düsseldorf they taxi'd with 2 engines. It probably depends on airport/airline/pilot.
Duvanie Smart PFPX for Flight planning (thats what Matt uses in his video so I assume Squirrel uses it too) and I think (but not entirely sure) they get the charts from Navigraph
Squirrel you should try using line it's like discord but way better plus even when the mic doesn't sound good you are able to still here the person instead of were on discord when the voice over thing gets bad it cuts your voice were on line you don't have to worry about that
Look at the RPMs on the display. I lowered from 20 to 10 (which is my mistake) but I did not idle the power. The confusion came because I was trying to control the aircraft but Matt had not taken the AP out (because Discord didn't transmit my voice for some reason). That is what screwed us over.
Squirrel , You're right about "Any landing you can walk away from is a good one". But a great landing is one in which you can use the plane again afterwards. I do believe that's a down aircraft until maintenance can go over the gear and airframe. 😁
Do you have paid FSUIPC or some other way of binding autopilot disconnect to a button on your yoke? Standard way of doing things would be for the Pilot flying to disconnect autopilot with the yoke mounted button, and the Pilot Not flying to confirm that the autopilot disconnects by checking the MCP light/PFD modes and challenge Pilot Flying if he doesn't call they have control. I know the Majestic has some oddities with pressing Ctrl+Shift+Z on the keyboard to disconnect on occasion, so I think the FSUIPC method is the only sure way without mousing over buttons in the virtual cockpit which is a pain, but getting it on your physical yoke would be a better idea, then pilot flying can choose for them self when they become the pilot actually flying.
That, and Matts insistence that the Q400 definitely has autoland, which it absolutely doesn't. This is why you got smashed into the ground, there's no flare.
You are right, Q400 does not have autoland. It it certified, if equipped with HUD, for CATIIIa aproach which is no DH but minimum RVR of 200m and it is manually landed, the Q400 does not land itself.
The autopilot on the C172 is 'easier' than the thing they stuck on the Cherokee. I happen to like the Cherokee myself, but that's mostly due to flying Archers more than C172's. Also, for Flightsim purposes, it's much easier to see out the side windows in the Cherokee than the 172. You can see the horizon when turning toward that direction for instance, which you can't in the Cessna. The C182 is also gorgeous... And a touch quicker than the 172. In the real world a 182 is much more than a "Fast C172", it's literally wider, taller and roomier inside. A bigger aircraft all round. Its a pity they didn't make it an RG and give us 10 more knots :P I have all 3, and love em all. I haven't gotten the Comanche because I've never been in a real one and am unlikely to ever be. Also that whole "Radio stack to the left side of the Pilot" thing is strange.
hey squirrel great video :) im just wondering how come you dont show a bus in your intro video u have a truck and a train and a plan im just wondering why not a bus?
Oh ya that's true. it looks great though:) me and my son love your videos and streams :) hope you and your family are doing well :) just wondering what is Stevens twich name that one who you play farming sim with?
i want to get this, but i dont quite understand how. it says "cannot be used for entertainment/consumer purposes" so does that mean, unless im actually a pilot, or a pilot student, i cant own this?
Hey squirrel are you planning on making any videos on cattle and crops the game looks so realistic and would love to see you review it like you did with farming simulator 17 thanks love your videos!
Matt and Squirrel. The two most hopeless pilots lol. Imagine the announcements.
"Ladies and Gents, as you can see, this is Edinburgh. Get used to it. Matt left the pins in the gear so we couldn't retract the wheels."
It is called the landing gear mate
Matt: "It sounded like the engines had just exploded!"
Squirrel: "Lovely"
😂😂😂😂
- positive rate
- gear up
- put the gear up?
- i just said gear up
- put it up anyway
XD
Gotta love Discord lol
Anonym
Haha
V 1 V 2 Anonym
2 rate positive rate - gear up
"Will it land itself?" - "Yeah it will" - Matt Davies 2017 :D
The Barometric pressure is seperate as a safe guard. (static pressure vents one for both captain and co-pilot)
death_by_midget
I'll just like your comment instead of saying the same thing.
I like seeing mistakes in videos because no one is perfect like you said but especially for games like flight sim we can sort off laugh it out together which is great and it shows that even two reasonably experienced flight simmers make mistakes
These are just the childhood videos...
Really enjoyable video guys it's great to see the collaborative effort, FYI CAT2 auto land won't land the plane only CAT3 will. Also f/o side window has no de ice or demisters in the dash so it will always get foggy! Hope this helps and looking forward to more content from you guys!

Faster than Road or rail Yea right! good stuff guys loved it

Mat “you can check the brakes but it is not Vidal part of it” Welll that’s reassuring
It's so cool how realistic this looks, so like Edinburgh Airport!
Hey, love your guys videos.... Note as a ground super, most pilots will ask before pressurizing, if pins and chocks are removed before engine start.
I was one a q400 dash 8 the other day with Flybe going from Belfast to Southampton. They're super fast and mental

I'm pretty sure you forgot to put up the landing gear ⚙😂
Another great video Paul ! I love the dash 8 and I especially love the music that you put in the video when you show us the plane:-)
Most modern aircraft use a general purpose RTOS (realtime operating system) pretty much the same thing that is used in factory automation, power stations, ships etc
This video was pure comedy, yet still really good!
Again, Matt is so right. haven't seen a -8 video go without a hitch.... Lol
Paul you can disconnect the autopilot by pressing Z on your keyboard.
I recommend mapping the autopilot button to your weapons release button on your hotas :)
hi Squirrel, Cardiffs my Local airport and been very foggy recently but very fun to land in
During the landing it looked like the GS was guiding the plane to the threshold of the RWY not to the touchdown marker that's why you had trees so close and 3 and then all 4 out of 4 PAPI lights red. Watching this i was like: go around! Go around! And then there was no flare and i expected the nose gear to collapse.
I love shared cockpit
Not gonna lie, when Squirrel opened the video with Good Morning Matt, I nearly freaked.
Great video and graphics - good effort guys. Not sure about your landing though - more of an arrival!
Also 34:55 what did mat do there
Good to see a video where you fly in to my local airport
No full autoland on the DH8D, CAT 3 only available manually flown from DA using the HUD. The main reason there's no autoland is that there isn't auto throttle.

Good to know! lol
Squirrel you are my best TH-camer
Squirrel where do you get the checklist and how do you know all the preflight stuff?
The Ice on the props happens in real life also on the air intakes as i fly on the dash regular glasgow to East Midlands
Squirrel...ever fly the private/business jet Premier1? Love that aircraft! and the Premier1Driver channel in the real world!
Farewell Flybe!! We will never forget you
Just so you know, the Q400 (in fact no turboprop) can Autoland. It just maintains the decent profile right to the ground.
Keith Robb I think you meant 'can't' 😀
Errrr.... yup. My fingers were not typing what I was thinking. :)
The power was cut about as you went past that tree on approach, of course it was going to face-plant into the ground.
You should fly to Canada 🇨🇦 in a 747
Hats off to you guys. Looks like u need a pilot license to even play :) I wouldn't be able to do this.
This aircraft does not have autoland, mate! Cat3 only down to decision height, then you need to take it! :o
go to Bournemouth and then to Jersey in the channel from Bournemouth. I've done that flight before and it's quite interesting.
moral in the story "never skip a check list item." Faster than road or rail. Yeah right! Not with those two pilots lol.
Do a video in an airbus a380!
You two are great haha! Keep it up please!
Squirrel reminds me of my dad. Always says the lights are too bright.
I love these shared cockpit videos could you do a Euro truck video with Matt
That would require online and online in ATS/ETS is ass. Of course not my call, but it really is ass.
Yes, good morning from Abbotsford cyxx🚁👍👏🏻
Is it just me, or does the exterior sound of that dash in flight sound uncannily like the 707 in "Airplane!"? It does somehow fit you guys. 😉
Lol, your company tag on the side says “Faster then road or rail” , lol....not this day!🤪😢✈️
Just got an ad for Construction Simulator 2 half way through!
hnnnnng!!! second time lucky haha brilliant loved it
Finally flew into my home airport! :)
you two are a great problemteam together .... already fun what is going wrong next time .... haha
Squirrel should be the Pilot because he is the oldest lol
Shouldn't the most qualified person be the pilot? If there's a 6 year old who knows more about flying this plane than he does, the 6 year old should be the pilot. Why does age matter? lol
he said "lol" he was joking
Putting "lol" at the end of a statement does not constitute a joke. You're either trolling or just plain ignorant.
He meant that as a joke.
Ayy check it out a random popping in just to insult someone rather than provide a rational argument because that's too hard for a fool.
"Edinburgh Tower this is FlyBe 4508, we forgot to pull the pins on the landing gear so we would like to return to Edinburgh so we can get the pins pulled."
- Matt and Paul, March 17th 2017
@Squirrel what's the name of the song you used when showing the plane flying at 58:00?? Ty
Me too, that one really stood out. EDIT: Shazam was no help.
Can you please do a flight from Edinburgh to Kirkwall please
That music is really reminiscent of the Antarctica soundtrack by Vangelis
I love these videos!
Love your intro
Does anybody recognize the background music in the plane?
Paul, you and Matt reminds me of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in these vid's lol
one error at the start, Dash Q400's taxi with Engine 1 on only, they start Engine 2 before the start of the runway.
depends on what airline it is
I know that Flybe do the One Engine Taxi. as ive flown with them for a while
Flew on a Flybe Dash 8 Q400 twice not long ago, at Southampton airport they taxi'd with 1 engine started and at Düsseldorf they taxi'd with 2 engines. It probably depends on airport/airline/pilot.
how do u get the flybe skin and dash 8 aircraft?
I knew you left the pins in!!!!!!
+Squirrel where do you guys plan your flight plans? (including charts and such)
Duvanie Smart PFPX for Flight planning (thats what Matt uses in his video so I assume Squirrel uses it too) and I think (but not entirely sure) they get the charts from Navigraph
thanks m8
will you do some more omsi?
Faceplant for autopilot, the shortest landing ever, tricky
Would you do a flight with Brussels airlines and depart or arrive at Brussels airport?
+Squirrel Please do a flight From EGHI (Southampton Intl) as it's my local airport! :D
I love this so so much !!!!!
Should i get gsx of Aersoft a319 for fsx?
Squirrel you should try using line it's like discord but way better plus even when the mic doesn't sound good you are able to still here the person instead of were on discord when the voice over thing gets bad it cuts your voice were on line you don't have to worry about that
where did you get the aircraft from
What music did you used in the middle of the video?
Squirrel, how did you get the Q400 and can you make a video tutorial on setting up a shared cockpit?
RSG13 matt has a video on it. Just search "matt davies connected flightdeck"
Have you tried simairport yet
Matt was right, it does seem like you idled the power prematurely.
Look at the RPMs on the display. I lowered from 20 to 10 (which is my mistake) but I did not idle the power. The confusion came because I was trying to control the aircraft but Matt had not taken the AP out (because Discord didn't transmit my voice for some reason). That is what screwed us over.

If you guys had the choice: Which GA aircraft by A2A should I buy?
X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X c172 definitely. I have that and the piper Cherokee and the 172 is much better! I don't have the 182 though
Than you very much, Daniel.
Why do you prefer the 172 if I may ask?
The autopilot on the C172 is 'easier' than the thing they stuck on the Cherokee. I happen to like the Cherokee myself, but that's mostly due to flying Archers more than C172's. Essex Horse I dont think it means what you think it means
witch licens of p3d do you have?
Not to rush, but any ETA on My Summer Car? Really excited to see you race the Rally! :)
+Joshiplier Squirrel does these shared cockpit videos because many of his subscribers asked for more videos like this.
Squirrel, do you fly with real weather, if so, when exactly did you take off from Edinburgh?
Also can you use live atc
Hey squirrel are you planning on making any videos on cattle and crops the game looks so realistic and would love to see you review it like you did with farming simulator 17 thanks love your videos!
Where can we get this scenary for Edinburgh
+alasdair adam uk2000
Thanks squirrel
Did you have 2 lands?
When I buy this the first flight I'll do after the tutorial is a 8 Q400 flybe flight from Heathrow to Southampton
If you guys keep it up you'll have to brand Flybe to fly maybe 😂
please do more of this damn
i dont know if it just me i have noticed that matts mic cuts out at some points
love these vids more
Woop woop music would be interesting
Faster by road or rail?
can u please do a shared flight from Auckland NZ to Wellington NZ plz
boooooring, Queenstown ZQN to Christchurch would be better.
