    I am so sick of people talking about the IPad when referring to the Surface Pro. The IPad Pro no matter how large. You can put a keyboard on it use a pen it’s still just an IPad. The Surface is a REAL computer. It’s not just a tablet. It’s a real computer to download and install programs, play games and so much more. Stop comparing the IPad because these two do not compare. Well they both have touch screens.

    I like that you do these reviews but I was super disappointed you didn't show any photo editing with the pen! That's one of the most specific reasons I got my S3, for pen-enabled burning, dodging, masking, etc...It works beautifully in photoshop, but now is also working with the $40 Affinity Photo program which is so sweet. Give it a try Lee, and let us see it in action!

    "My previous surface pro". "The brand-new surface pro". TH-cam has a lot of videos spanning over a long timeline. It is always best to mention the exact model to dissolve ambiguity. "The brand new surface pro 4". "My older surface pro 3". Would do better.

    12:11 Adobe has been working on Touch features for their software. I can attest that on my SP3 when I remove the keyboard Photoshop/Illustrator automatically goes into touch mode where the UI changes and enlarges options. Alternatively the surface mouse is an insanely good addition to these devices. The battery lasts forever and it folds very slim and is pleasant to use as well.

    People should buy the Vaio Z Canvas. Two years old, still the fastest tablet on the market by far. And the screen is absolutely mind blowing. I sold mine a while ago and have been looking for a new tablet. None of the newer ones even come close to the i7-4770HQ in the Canvas. Going to buy that one again, for half the price of an i7 Surface Pro.

    great review! sure MS cheap out the IO, but it is still functional for what it is. when I had the SF Pro 2 there were no problems at with the lack of extra ports. This is a compact all in one hybrid tablet/notebook, not a full blown laptop. one thing I wish that MS didn't do is dropping the pen... being already at a premium price, it makes it tough to spend more for accessories that you use regularly.

    whats making me interested in the surface pro is two things there is a LTE version which fits me cause i really only use the internet for photos and email and LTE gives me internet access at all times or act as a backup internet option straight from the device. 2 - and cause it runs window 10; i can download programs like Norton to scan my computer to give me a ease of mind being able to clean my machine compared to the ipad pro. Don't get me wrong if i was rich i wouldn't mind getting both to play with.

    Mouse pad and track pad are two different things. Mouse pad is a sheet you place under a mouse so that you can move the mouse smoothly. Track pad is the input device built in to the laptops and that surface pro keyboard you are reviewing.

    To be fair yes this can be paired with the surface dock, but the main advantage of USB-C is the docking capabilities, there are screens which supports USB-C so you can connect the keyboard/mouse/card-reader to the screen, you connect the USB-C to your tablet and everything works (docking built in to the screen) including charging straight from the screen, and since all phones now also migrate to USB C you can use all your gadgets with this types of screens
    what you mention with external GPU doesn't work with just USB 3.1 but it also has to support lightning (40 Gbit/s)
    the advantages goes far beyond docking capabilities too when it comes to USB-C
    for example you can charge it with a battery bank (dell even has a USB C charger that has a built in battery bank)
    I do love my surface pro 3 w when i am upgrading the surface pro (2017) was not an option because of this, all the competitors have it, the new Samsung book 12 has 2 USB C and LTE, the ASUS i bought has one full USB A, a full HDMI and a USB C (although i will admit that no one can currently match the quality of the surface pro)
    (and yes i know the ASUS transformer pro 3 has inferior performance too but it was also less than half the price)
    If you like the docking capabilities you should REALLY be exited by USB C, try the new Samsung book 12 when it becomes available
    That Microsoft ditched USB C for this product is for me completely incomprehensible and a huge mistake i think, i really wanted the new surface and i love that they included an LTE option but that doesn't even come close to compensating for the lack of USB C

    As an Apple consumer since 1983, I still use Windows for certain software, and I'm hoping to see improvements in the next release; whatever it may be called.
    The Surface Pro ??? seems pricey for what it is. I mean, I don't think you mentioned what version of the Surface Pro you have there e.g. 4 or maybe the 5? Anyway, for $2700 w/o a pen and keyboard, I'd rather apply the $$$ towards a Panasonic ToughBook.

      So next year the 8th gen i5 and i7 series are coming out for ultrabook (u series), and will be true quad core. However, I cant wait another year, so I bought a New 2016 Macbook Pro 13" i5 2Ghz, 8GB Mem, 256SSD, non touch bar, and Iris Pro 540. The GPU is just good enough for Lightroom and also light gaming. Next year, I will get the 8th gen, with 16GB Mem, and 512SSD. I looked at the razor, asus, alienware, xps, and none had the lightweight and body build that the macbook pro has. I also have a gaming machine at home with 32GB Mem and 1080ti, so the laptop is primarily for portability with functionality.

      I don't think these are as good as the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro yet.
      They are good but no where near as good yet.
      Windows 10S is awful but Windows 10 Pro is much better. I honestly love MacOS High Sierra.
      Apple future proof their devices. So Apple has USB type C.
      Apple gets fewer viruses.
      Apple machines stay lightning quick for years.
      Apple machines have a great echo system.
      Apple machines look sexier.
      IOS 11 will make the iPad's 10 times more useful.
      Windows will continue to remain the dominant system due to its lower barrier of entry/cost.
      Windows Laptops have massively improved. Windows is onto a winner if it keeps improving at the rate it is. Hopefully all the feedback from TH-cam will help also.

    I looked at the Surface Pro 6 as a possible Lightroom and Photoshop editing machine for when I am abroad. I found that the HP Spectre X360 Laptop had a FAR better spec for the same money. 4K touchscreen. Pen INCLUDED, not extra. But the major plus was BUILD QUALITY. OK, so it is heavier, but it is really solidly built and is not going to break easily. I7 processor running at 3.1GHz, 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM and it flies on LR and PS, for around £500 less than the equivalent Surface Pro!!!!!

      vs Radhika Creations Not in my opinion, but everyone to their own. The Surface Pro 6 with the same processor and 500GB SSD was a whopping £400 more than I paid, but only has a 12.3” screen compared to the Spectre’s 15.6”, plus the HP Spectre X360 is a full 4K display over 1.5 times the resolution of the Surface. I’m sure you’ll agree that for photo editing a larger screen with higher resolution is better.

    Hi, i just want to know if this new surface pro tablet will be ideal for video editing, as well as 3D and 2D animation, with programs like Maya, flash animation, etc? Or should i perhaps wait for the new Microsoft surface studio computer?

    • @AlecGalicia
      @AlecGalicia 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ewwmustardcake I would suggest going against the surface pro for those purposes. While for photographers and artists a touchscreen and pen is very useful, you won't find yourself using the few advantages the surface has over another laptop. Unless you really need the touch screen or the portability I'd go with a much more powerful laptop. I have the Dell Inspiron 7559 with a i7 6700HQ, 16gigs of ram (upgraded from 8) and a 512 SSD (upgraded DIY) and the 1tb HD it came it. I can edit 4K without problems and do most 2D animation. I haven't done a ton of 3D renders to give a rating but it would do exceptionally well for a laptop. The total cost is around $1.1-1.2k

      No, no tablet or laptop is actually a good video editing machine.
      Nobody working professionally uses these things for video.
      Stills works, but not video. -I mean, just looks at _all_ the specs of any device and you can easily understand what they are meant for and good at.

    • @MustarcakeTeam
      @MustarcakeTeam 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alec Galicia Alec Galicia ooooh ok. Yeah i really need the touch screen as well particularly for digital drawing. I know they are making surface Pro studio which i feel would be ideal for my needs. But thanks for the feedback, i'll definitely looke into the Del inspiron!

    • @AlecGalicia
      @AlecGalicia 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ewwmustardcake I use a Wacom tablet (the cheaper Intuos) that works just as expected and connects fine. As Kurt said, professionally it isn't ideal but be careful because "professional" varies a lot. I'm pretty sure the whole MKBHD, Johnathan Morrison, and others edit with a mac laptop running final cut because it's optimized that well. Yes you can build a really good desktop but that takes hours of research and waiting for parts etc. which people don't consider. By the time you weigh all that out, the price between buying a prebuilt computer and your own is actually much closer than what people say.
      Back to the point, the Dell Inspiron has a few issues which is terrible battery life (I get around 2 hours or a bit more HOWEVER I only use power saver and I could save a lot of power by lowering the brightness among other things), can get pretty loud because of the fans, and the trackpad is meh but I've gotten used to it. Other than that, I can run 20+ tabs on Opera with three Adobe programs open and feel solid with no hiccups in terms of moving around. Obviously if I got into editing 4K or a large batch of RAW photos in Lightroom where I actually see my laptop slow down the most, I'd close apps and such but for the price it's a champ and I can carry it around no problem and don't have to be tethered except I'd definitely plug in whenever possible.
      ALSO the screen is not very accurate which is very important for this kind of work. I suggest you look into the Dell XPS series which is a lot more expensive for the same specs but comes with a color accurate screen and a much slimmer footprint. I use an LG widescreen monitor ($250) that is accurate enough for my work. It is a tiny bit more contrasted but you may be able to get it closer with a proper calibration device. The main problems with the laptop screen was that it's too contrasted in the shadows and colors are just not finely tuned. Definitely would recommend an external monitor but I enjoy using the laptop to do basic edits and set up so when I get home and plug in I get right to work!

    A gloosy screen on any laptop/ tablet means it is a fail .Glossy screens reflect light, mat screens don't. All screens should be mat by default. So why does a top of the range item like this have a defective screen(glossy)? .. because glossy screens are cheaper than mat to produce. I despair! Bring back 4:3 ratio mat screens.

    Great Video! I've been considering buying one of these mainly because iv'e been pretty frustrated with my iPad for on the go photo or even light video editing recently. I'm going between this and a Dell xps. The surface is just is so attractive to me and I like the idea of having a pen for some reason.
