I spent a good chunk of time using surface 8 (same format as 9). I use it for drawing and coding, and it seemed like a best form factor ever - and to be honest, there are few, if any, better options out there! But I have three major pain points with it. 1st - keyboard accessibility while drawing. I use shortcuts a lot, and with both of those devices it's not really comfortable unless you have a second keyboard. 2nd - soldered RAM. 16GB with Windows 11 is just the lowest possible amount if you plan doing any serious 3D/hi-res drawing work, and you will be stuck with it. The third is cooling. Oof. No matter how good hardware is, if it's not cooled - it will throttle, and Surface laptops are HORRIBLE at sustained cooling for any periods longer that 15 minutes of work. Interestingly, attaching power cable makes things worse, because battery just starts to heat like a freaking volcano, turning the device to a chinese hot pot. I wonder if Studio have a bit better stats due to bigger and thicker base, but it also has GPU, so that means even more heat.

Great comparison! My only comment is to incorporate some b roll shots of the devices showing the ports, keyboard, comparing thickness and displays and well as size comparison one ontop of the other. People like to see the devices up close as well.

Just-in-time seeing your video. My 2017 Surface Pro 5 LTE critically needs replacing especially because it can't handle Windows 11 & beyond = long-since dated. Like one of your commentors, I discovered I'm more a PC vs. tablet guy = the Studio 2 has called me & will be my next PC by December. Thanks much Jerad!!

Having a 3050ti makes a HUGE difference in running programs. I have a surface pro 9 i5 and regret not buying the studio with 3050 because running programs like solid works and other cad software for school on here is sometimes laggy and slow. BUT note taking and portability is VERY good on the surface pro 9 which is what I mainly got it for at first.

I feel like the Laptop Studio is really due for an internals update, with its processor being 2 generations old at this point, and the graphics also being one generation old. It would be nice to see a SLS 2 with 13th gen Intel and RTX 40-series options, since the old intel CPU is really quite outdated compared to the competition.

My Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio was able to play 8K test videos for hours until the battery died. I had fallen asleep overnight watching it. So the fact my laptop can play this means its good and modern. I bought the i7 11th version 4.8GHz with 32GB ram and 2TB SSD. My first computer in 9 years. Obviously I hadn't seen your video until now. But I'm using a laptop with the power of a desktop. And great for me. I was looking at first for a laptop with 8 core CPU. But i reckon it would run very hot. I'm not really into gaming anyway, I have an XBOX X for that and hardly use it. I'm pleased with my purchase. it was very expensive though. £2680.00 including the slim pen.

You are NOT alone. I have the same machine, and #I am really happy with my device. It does all That I want it to do. The only gripe I really have is battery life. I use an external battery when I need to, but I usually have access to a charging point for as long as I need to. I can use it on battery, but I need more battery life.
That is my only physical gripe with it.
I love the screen, the way it moves so I can use it as a tablet, the resolution, the memory and the speed. I know it is an older chip, but for what I use it for, I have absolutely no problem.
I must say that I got it for a steak, though ... in fact, I also got one for my daughter. I won't know how much, but less than you were caused to pay. However, I would have paid what you paid,, because the machine is worth it .... for me. I really like it and enjoy using it. I will be doing so for a few more years.
BTW...it was never promised to be the lightest, fastest machine on the block ...however show me another Laptop of this size and weight that is as adept as doing what this one does ....There are few. Please don't compare it to the ones that fold over. They are NOT in the same form factor. The keyboard is exposed in tablet form and is much more cumbersome. This one converts without you having to take it off the table. The pen charges in a slot provided for it and does not slip off.
In my obviously biased view...You made a great purchase!!

Good video but would have loved it if you had reviewed the base models of both the devices which would make a perfect apples to apples comparison...
Im trying to decide between buying a surface pro 9 or Studio 1 or Studio 2(all base models bare minimum specs available) thing is studio 1 base model is now running at 500$ discount at 1350$ and new studio 2 is at 2000$ vs surface pro 9 with keyboard and pen costing me 1413$ . My question is if the surface pro 9 12th gen i5 8gm ram 256gb storage has better performance for video editing and light gaming or the Studio 1 with 11th gen i5 16gb 512gb with iris Xe.

Amazing video, but now I'm thoroughly confused. I'm debating between the 2 devices. I currently have the SP7 with 16GB, I run meetings all day long. I drive 3 external monitors. When I host meetings with screen shares, everything is so slow. RAM spikes to neat 90%. I suspect the separate GPU could help screen shares and meetings, but I can't be sure.
    Thoughts?
    SLS or SP3 with 32GB?

@@spacespace321 I think this too cuz price now they're all 400$ which is same prices as 9. But my 9 does everything I want. Only downside 0 gaming capabilities and I mean games like HIGH GRAPHICS. I am debating to buy the studio laptop with 32gb ram 1tb only around 2299.99 400$ off but if the sp9 just came out I think the studio laptop 2 is coming soon and I hope they use new 13th Gen or 12th Gen processor with RTX 40k series OMG BEAST LAPTOP

This looks like a good place to ask, I'm an artist who mainly uses Clip Studio Paint. I eventually will step into Blender/3D work but I can use my home computer for that if these don't work out for it.
Would the Laptop Studio or Pro 9 be better just for doing art? I draw at 5000 x 5000 px at 350 dpi.

I'd say Laptop Studio for two reasons:
      - Pro 9 will heat up A LOT when you create graphics
      - When using graphic programs, especially Blender, using keyboard shortcuts is necessary and Laptop Studio's keyboard will be much more comfortable to use than the soft, bendy one that Pro 9 has.
I'd go for Pro 9 if you reaaaaly need the device to be super portable

I’m sure for gaming - the limit would be lack of graphics card but thought both displays on respective machines are up to 120hz.
You just have to enable the feature on SP9

The Acer ConceptD 7 Ezel Pro is better (if you can somehow get it still). It has a better hinge (allows for a floating screen or any other angle), 4k screen, a lot more ports (SD card reader, USB A, USB C, display port, ethernet), EMR Wacom pen, and can upgrade it with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 GPU and 11th gen i7. Backlit keyboard too (ambient orange color)
