My name is Kelly and I am an ambassador for Cambly and Cambly Kids, as well as a direct interviewer for iTutorGroup and a mentor/recruiter for VIPKID, Magic Ears, Palfish, 31abc, One on One English, BlingABC, HeyTalk, TutorABC, The Really Great Teacher Company and Engoo. This video is all about making a fantastic video for your Cambly Kids application/profile. I talk through a good format, some tips, and even give an example of what my typical intro video looks like.

@@TeacherKelly I only saw your response now and I have just finished applying. Funny thing happened though. I saw there was a demo lesson option after the introduction videos and then as soon as I uploaded my introduction for the kids it automatically said, “thank you, you account is under review” so I’m not too sure now what to do, because I would love to finish the kids application.

Hi! I actually use the same structure in terms of content for all my intro videos, kids or adults. (But for adults, I don't use props or be overly silly. I just smile and am welcoming.)

Hi! I sit far enough back from the computer, and use overhead lights rather than ones in front of me. (If I teach in different places or with different lighting, I do still get some glare.)

For adults, I use the same format. Still smiling, friendly, welcoming. But I don't use props or a lot of TPR for adults.

Do they accept Indian tutors? Both my school level and higher educations(bachelors & masters) have been pursued in English.
Hey Kelly. So I’m completely new to esl teaching. I don’t have a BA or a tefl/tesol certificate. Basically I just want to try out Cambly before deciding to get a tefl so I can see if I like it first. So two questions, 1. Do you think I could pass the interview process without any real education (my highest education is a ged) and 2. Can I update my intro video later on after I’ve acquired a certificate or if I decide to go to college? Thank you!

1. Honestly, it is hard to say. While Cambly has no strict requirements, they are still quite selective (as they hire according to what students want). In the absence of qualifications or experience, you would need to blow them away with your intro video(s) and profile. (Definitely doable!)
2. Your intro videos can be updated later as needed.

Hello. If you are working with so many online platforms how do you manage your calendar? Double bookings etc.?
Hi! I teach for 4-6 companies any given week, so am never juggling all at once. I have my 'fixed hour' companies that are set, and then I arrange others around those. I never double-book myself, as I don't want the stress of that. I am super organized, using a planner on my ipad. I like variety and being busy, so it works for me. 😊

Honestly, I always try to make my intro videos specific for a company. Often, companies will give specific instructions in terms of length and content, so it isn't a one-size-fits-all thing.

Hi! Yes you can teach kids only. But, when applying, you are applying for both. (Cambly Kids is a branch of Cambly.) 😊

Hi! That is awesome! Application processing times can vary greatly. Cambly only hires according to demand in terms of number of teachers they need and their student needs. Some are accepted in days, others longer.

Hi Teacher Kelly, can I edit my intro videos to make it more fun? Like adding some stickers, templates and such? Or a video without edit, just using some props?
You definitely can. There are no specifications or requirements in terms of editting. I don't recommend going too crazy with it though. It is the content that will get you hired, not your editting skills.

Can you insert slides/screenshare in your video? I am a great teacher, but video production and editing are not my forte.
It isn't my area either haha! But I do it occasionally for youtube videos. For the Cambly videos, it really isn't needed to have the slides showing.
Is 1 on 1 hiring right now? What is Engoo? I have too many questions and quarantine has driven me nuts. Your video was good. :-)
Thanks! 1 on 1 isn't hiring right now sadly. Engoo is. They are similar to Cambly in some ways, but are a bit less relaxed. It is 1:1 classes, 25 minutes, can be all ages in either free talk or lessons. Pay is up to $10 an hour. 😊 Feel free to email me at teacherkellyuka@gmail.com.

Hi! One on one coaching can be helpful with many things (finding companies, preparing applications, resumes, intro videos, demo prep), but it doesn't 'guarantee' employment. Getting the job is ultimately up to you and your skills. I can only prepare you for doing well.

I worked with you on my intro video and you got me into zebra english...and you know. No I keep applying to online esl companies and I keep getting rejected.
Things are more competitive now for sure. But, I saw that you booked a coaching session. We can chat through this a bit more then and see where things might be going wrong.
Is 27 seconds too short?
There is no lower limit. But remember this is your chance to sell yourself. If you feel like you've done that in 27 seconds, that's fine. If not, I'd try to see what you could add.

Can I teach normal classes on Cambly as well as teach Cambly Kids? I can't seem to get an answer on this subject.
Yes. Cambly Kids is just a branch of Cambly. (You can't just work for Cambly Kids alone. When you apply to Cambly Kids, you are automatically applying to normal Cambly as well.) So, once hired, you can do both.

Well, for one, children aren't usually picking their own teacher. Parents are and those parents often speak at least some English. Many companies often provide some form of translation as well. 🙃
@@TeacherKelly I doubt that parents can speak English, because they would then teach there own children. 🤔
@@Movierecapsnow. As I am sure you are aware, just because someone CAN do something, doesn't mean they can teach it. (And even if they can teach it, most do not have the time to do so.) Secondly, many parents are paying for these classes so that their child gets exposure to fluent speakers with different accents. It isn't just about cramming a kids head full of vocab and grammar rules. They often get that at school.
