      @@stinkepoo6845 yo I figured it out, I Re-Downloaded a Different Vst plugin to find out what file and where to put it.
      Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST2\
      Then Download the Zip Version of the plugin you wanna use. And Find the 64 Or 32Bit .Dll file inside of the zip and make a folder inside the VST2 Folder Name it whatever and place the .Dll inside, relaunch OBS and it should be there

    Very nice video... as a pro sound engineer my only quibble is the expander should be first, the compressors drop the difference between BG and Vox, bringing up the noise floor, so you help the expander differentiate between them by letting it see the raw signal, then you can compress harder without any noise...

    • @JoeJacksonJr
      @JoeJacksonJr  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you. The reason for the expander being last was to get more consistent gating via the compressed audio. Also the expander will not remove any extra background noise as it would only attenuate all audio below the set threshold. If you added a compressor after the expander, the attentuation would be largely nullified due to adding make-up gain. Now there is no wrong or right way, many hardware units like a DBX 286 have the expander/gate at the start of the signal chain. But like I mentioned, the reason for putting it last was that I found from testing that the only difference I seen was that the gating from a Gate or an Expander to me sounded more natural and pleasing when put after the compressor.

  • @operativegamingtv5624
    @operativegamingtv5624 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i learn a lot from this video. You are the first video that talk about using expander. most tell you to use noisegate for to get rid of background noise.

    • @JoeJacksonJr
      @JoeJacksonJr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically an expander is a noise gate, but with ratio based audio attenuation instead of a hard gate. But yea so many use a gate and I have and they can be better in a very noise heavy environment. But they can sound harsh. Its more of using the right tool for the job. :-)

    Joe, thanks so much for your tutorial on the plug-ins for OBS. Your instruction was excellent. I could understand every word; which is something I cannot say for a large percentage of the videos on TH-cam. The only thing lacking in your tutorial was how to save the settings for the plug-ins. Perhaps there is something already in OBS but if there is I have not been able to find it. This requires another 30 minutes of setting up every time OBS is shut down for any reason. what's the answer? The plug-ins your recommended are excellent and your tutorial is clear.

    This made my blue yeti sound reallyyy good.
    But the expander can also be replaced by the noise gate. And OBS's new noise suppression (RNNoise) does a fantastic job. I think the RNNoise and noise gate do a better job than the expander.
    Also, the SlickEQ is amazing but it doesn't do the "sweep" I've seen on other EQ tutorials. I've made an EQ with the sweep, but the SlickEQ version presented here actually made me sound better. I honestly don't know why though lol.

    • @JoeJacksonJr
      @JoeJacksonJr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      An expander is a gate, but a gate is not an expander. Gates have a hard open and close on them which can lead to your audio sounding choppy. Where as an exapnder has a more varible open and close that is based on the incoming signal. Which leads them to sounding more transparent. That said some really good gates like FabFilters ProG gate has the option for a soft knee which can do the same thing and can also be transparent and great sounding.
      I personally use Primary Source Expander from Waves. Its technically more of a gate despite the name, but it has a super soft knee built in and just works and sound great.

    • @skyhr
      @skyhr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoeJacksonJr Awesome. Thanks for the reply.
      Yeah, I've noticed the hard gate on OBS free reaper noise gate plugin. Any way you can do a tutorial for a soft, high quality gate/noise/expander? That's for free? :)

    • @JoeJacksonJr
      @JoeJacksonJr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@skyhr The built in expander in OBS is the best free one.. For some reason, despite these plugins being fairly simple compared to others they all seem to cost quite a bit for what they are. Like I mentioned I use PSE from Waves, but its like $79 USD.
