What a great achievement for your mom! I've often wondered if one issue for Alzheimer's patients is a lack of interest or the ability to find that certain something that sparks memories. I can't think of s better compliment to Tyler and Todd either. Well done, you. 🤗🖖💕
A Finn here, replying a bit late. A lot of people tend to take a cold beer in the sauna, or after it. Just don't overdo it, because both sauna and alcohol can affect your blood pressure, heart rate and hydration. But if you're a healthy person, I don't think there are really any risks. Personally I find it very relaxing. I don't see any issues with the carbs honestly. If you want to do a bit more extreme thing without ice swimming, you can get from the heat of the sauna and roll in the snow, then go back to sauna. It feels terrible for a second, but the adrenaline rush you get from it is pretty awesome. BTW, I actually often pronounce sauna as "saw-nah" in English, it just fits the language better, despite it being a Finnish loan word, and in Finnish we pronounce it "sah-ooh-na".
Dont know if you remember my comment about wanting to come out a few week back. But guess what, I finally did it I came out and even though my parents not fully accept it I’m happier than ever. Thank you so much for your motivation I love you guys so much.

I'm happy you guys opted for a wood-heated sauna vs. an electrical one; it's much more authenticly Finnish, IMHO. Many moons ago, when I visited my Finnish cousins in northern Wisconsin, we spent many happy times in their wood-heated sauna [sow'-nah]--about 10 feet x 10 feet, with three levels of benches on either side, and a wood stove with piping hot rocks on its top upon which we threw cold water to create steam. The higher you sat, the hotter it was! In the wintertime, after 30 minutes or so in the sauna, we would run out in our birthday suits to the nearby creek and jump through a hole we had cut through the ice. Don't ask me why! It took about a minute for the cold to take over our steaming bodies. We usually had a profound sleep that night!! Thanks for stirring up such happy memories!!
So interesting about the pronunciation of "sauna." My aunt was from the Netherlands and introduced me to gouda cheese. She pronounced it how-da with a slightly guttural "h" sound created in the back of the mouth. After trying to order it out a few times, I realized they pronounce it goo-da in North America. I learned it's better to be understood than to be right. 😊
“It’s better to be understood than to be right” might be the most insightful things I’ve read in 2022. We were trying to explain what the Fins taught us in our first sauna build and it clearly got lost on a lot of people. Truly, truly appreciate this perspective ❤️
Soooo jealous. Nothing better than in the snowy woods taking in a sauna. Then take the polar bear blast and do a nekked snow angel in the deep snow. Enjoy guys. Your dome is gorgeous inside. Lilly definitely enjoys it.
Douse yourself completely in water before going to sauna. It helps to regulate your body temperature, and for you to cool faster when you exit sauna. In Finland we have something called pefletti, it is a linen fabric placed on the wooden seat. Every time you come in, you pour water on it so that you don't sit on 80-100C wood. Everyone has their own, and it is washed after every use. It is far more hygienic, and comfortable than just sitting on hot wooden seats. If you are not accustomed to high temperatures, you can use a sauna hat. It is a 100% wool hat, that you DO NOT WET, it is not knitted, it is not a regular woolly hat, it is a hat meant solely for sauna. If you decide to use a sauna hat, make sure it's a real sauna hat, and not a cheap polyester mix knockoff. It needs to be 100% wool, and do not wet your hair or the hat. If it is a real sauna hat, it will keep the heat from your head.
Oh my goodness, your first sentence. I thought you meant for us to pee our pants before going into the sauna! It's a good thing I read all your sentences.
@@themuseboy Haha! Well English is my third language, I didn't even realise what I had written. I'm replying with another account because for some reason I can only comment, but not reply with my original account. But do completely douse yourself in water. It helps to control your body temperature, and it also helps you to cool down faster when you exit the sauna. For some reason North Americans think sauna is supposed to be dry, and some wear towels and bathrobes. I've never understood why people would do that to themselves.
@@KNYD My ancestors came to the US from Germany in 1774, yea a long time ago. But for me growing up we had neighbors who spoke German so I always found it interesting how the so many words could carry such different meanings and yet sound similar. I knew what you meant to say but of course had to comment. Thank you for the kind response and information. The gym I go to has both a dry sauna and a steam sauna. But they call it a steam room and a sauna and I see some guys that go back and forth between the two. Or is a steam room nothing to do with a sauna?
@@themuseboy I'm not really sure what a steam room is, but after quick research they sound like what Romans had in their bath houses, and are different to saunas. Steam rooms have a water heater, hence the abundance of steam, that heats up the whole room unlike saunas. The funny thing is that North Americans use the Finnish word sauna, but how they use it is more kin to the Swedish bastu. In Finland anything under 80C=176f isn't really a sauna, it's just a warm room, and we call it a Swedish sauna. Also in Finland throwing water on the rocks is always part of sauna (even if it is a smokesauna), but in Sweden that only happens in certain areas.
@@themuseboy Sauna originally was how people bathed, and that is still a part of it to this day. Saunas in homes are part of the bathroom. You walk through the shower to the sauna (you can look up "kylpyhuone ja sauna" to get a sense of the set up), and before entering the sauna you quickly rinse yourself. Kiuas is the heat source in the sauna, we do not call it a stove, and in some cases it can essentially be just a pile of rocks. Löyly is thrown on the kiuas, it is the water, the steam, the sound, breathing it in, and is thrown whenever needed. In Finnish mythology the soul is in three parts, and one of them is löyly, the breath. The bucket that has the water for kiuas is called kiulu, and the ladle is called löyly ladle. After a while you go cool yourself down, you can just relax inside or outside, or you can roll in the snow or dip in a lake. When you go back to the sauna you rinse yourself, or at least your feet, and sit back on the same seat on your pefletti. This goes on repeat, until you are ready, then people will bathe one by one. You do not bathe after cooling down, you bathe right after sauna. Some might want to repeat the cycle longer, so the group slowly dwindles down. Saunas in people's cottages are usually separate structures, and don't have running water. They will either have a washroom that you walk through to get to the sauna, or some space in the front next to the kiuas. These saunas will also have two water tanks, one attached to the kiuas, that heats it up, and a cold water tank. Both are filled by carrying buckets of water from the river or lake. Then there is a separate bucket that is meant for bathing. Hot and cold water in mixed in it to get the desired temperature, and a sauna ladle (separate from löyly ladle) is used to scoop water and to bathe. Soap is not put in the bucket nor are hands used to scoop the water, other people will use the same bucket. In saunas that don't have a separate washroom people bathe in front of everyone. I've only ever seen a bathtub once and never a shower cubicle in a Finnish home.
The joys of having someone to share life with that you are in-love with makes all the awesome sounds of the environment. You two always amaze me at the how much you get done at your homestead. Thank you for sharing your adventure.
Love it! 😂😋. Aber es ist so herrlich; wie gereinigt man sich fühlt nach einem Saunaabend 😍 spaexecutive.com/2018/05/04/wellness-trend-4-things-you-need-to-know-about-sauna-aufguss/
Boys, it is so much fun watching everything come together so nicely!…finally! No it hasn’t all been easy, nor on your expected time frame…but that doesn’t matter! It just makes you appreciate it more!
What I appreciate the most about your lifestyle is the simplicity, the enjoyment of beauty, comfort, attention to detail, harmony and peace you portray. It makes me aspire to the nutshell of it all, which is within any one's reach. Well done for creating the example we all yearn.
Okay that's it! We are moving into the woods too....simple living with my hubby....oh and I need a sauna too tho....and good wifi...and an airfryer. Simple living 2.0, 21st century style! Love you guys! :)
I have to say that watching your videos always makes me feel rejuvenated...like I've been on vacation with good friends! Thanks so much for all the effort you put into each one.
Thank you so much for taking the time to talk about mental health 💕 You'll never know how many people you are affecting in such a positive way, bless you both so much 💖
I can’t put into words how much I love watching you two!!!! It probably doesn’t hurt that you’re both stunning to look at lol. But it’s your relationship and humor that make your videos unique and special. Gives me all the feels☺️
Love this project! I bought an acre and a half on a former logging road, last year, on Nova Scotia's south shore. Was thinking of selling but thanks to you and Vanwives and life I feel like something new and different from that idea is about to begin. THANK YOU!
That’s so cool! Best of luck and keep us updated! The waters over there are super rich and full of life and it seems like you will have plenty of wood!
Honestly, I could smell your spaghetti sauce, along with the yummy looking bread 🤗. It’s a good thing that it’s later in the evening, because Ray’s like,” OMG pleazzzzz make spaghetti tomorrow 🤩🙏🤩. “Every day is a new chapter”; oh my gosh, we get it! Lilly is just the most adorable little thing, she brightens up every video 🥰. I’m sure that she is very happy to be in the family circle ♥️. The sauna (the only pronunciation that I have ever known was your old pronunciation), is incredible! That would be the perfect project for our NC farm, especially after a hard days work. We heat our house with wood, so we love the smell of wood burning, and nothing beats the fragrance of cedar. I’ll have to go back and get the name of your kit. As always, we can’t wait until next Sunday ❤️.
To get the true Finnish experience you need to sit in the sauna, come out roll around in the snow and then go back into the sauna. Really good for the skin.
The two of you are too cute and I love how much you enjoy each other. My hubby and I have been married almost 35 years and yes we have our moments, as I expect you two do as well, but we come through each one and love each other very much. I love coming into your home each week and thank you for sharing your adventures with the world. Be safe! Kim in MD
I’m just here to see Lilly. She’s so precious. Another good video from the accomplished. I love how you two get things done and don’t take the weather for granted. Be safe. Love you.
Your Lily is the possible adopted sister of my Shadow. Every time she is shown my Shadow meows to get her attention. I also want to get a cave for Shadow too. I enjoy every time I see your vlog and follow your adventures. Enjoy your good life.
Tyler and Todd Ive been watching you for 2 years my name is Nelson I live in Maine Im 65 years old and Im trying to build my own barrel sauna and homemade sauna stove Ive never built anything since my home which is 16 X 28 Im also gay young guys like you are so blessed we had a harder time than you back then in 70s and up.
The sauna (not so-nah) looks great! Even in the dead of winter you guys keep killin’ it! Well done! Best Todd quote this year: “Don’t you just want to do it? It’s exercise for you.” I’m definitely going to be using that line in the future. And now I think I want some home made tomato sauce and spaghetti.
Ya’ll should put up a movie screen for your projector on the wardrobe! Would be perfect for movie night! I love your videos for my weekly me-time! Thanks boys.
Amaaazing! So cozy and the view is great! I can feel spring will bring many new projects. Todd's head is already spinning I'm sure! 😅 Also, I have to really congratulate you on the visible improvement of your (post-)production skills. Beyond the amazing heartfelt storytelling, this is becoming a high-quality series that commercial platforms could stream! (And I should know...I work in the industry).
I stumbled across your channel when COVID first hit our awareness. I have enjoyed watching your adventures and the most beautiful of marital relationships evolve into the ideal life partnership. I still see you two as my beloved grandsons. At 73, I think I can get away with that.🤗🤗💖💖
Glad you stumbled and we’ve been able to keep you company during this time. Appreciate the kind words….Todd’s grandma is 75 so maybe in a few years. For now you’re just our young and spry virtual auntie 😉❤️
I enjoy watching you two so much, inspirational on so many levels. Love how much love is clearly present from your love for each other and your place to the fur babies.
A Finnish friend here 👋. I hope you will enjoy your beautiful sauna 🥰. 80°C is a good temperature and you can even do lower heat and more water on the stones if you like that. The timer feels a little silly from a Finnish perspective because sauna is a place where you relax and forget the time but maybe it's good for a beginner. Just remember that it's not a competition and you should always listen to your body. Sometimes 15min feels too much and sometimes 30-60min feels amazing. It all depends on how your body is feeling that day. And always remember to keep yourself hydrated 🥤.
So true!! Completely agree with everything you’ve said…sometimes 10 mins is more than we can take and other times we’ve done 30 mins. I think it’s all about the humidity level and air temp. Def a relaxing experience!
@@tylerandtodd It really relaxes but also the heat is like an exercise to your heart (heart rate rises and it has health benefits). Just like with any other exercise you need to be healthy enough to handle the heat and after a physically hard day just few minutes might be enough. And eat the bowl of pasta after sauna if possible 😂.
Hi Tyler and Todd. I follow your friends, "Vanwives." I just love Crystal and Jazz and I really enjoy the two of you also. You have done an amazing job with your Dome and everything else. I'm so proud of all of you for what you have accomplished. As for the Sauna, I would be in there 1 minute and have to run out and fall in the snow. LOL
Saunas are so healthy. My parents lived in a 2-bedroom apartment in the Netherlands and they added a small electric sauna, and it helped my mom deal with her fibromyalgia better than most drugs. So glad you finally got it going. Have a great week!
I just hope you know how much you are influencing people in a positive way. I am a grandmother in Alabama and cannot wait to see you every week. I love the love you have have for one another and I see other older people realizing that also. Just good job and please keep it up and keep us involved!! Thank you.
I'm always so tickled when the algorithm gets it right - first visit to your channel and I'm already hooked! Happy family, cuddly critters and a gorgeous home.
You two totally pronounce the word sauna correctly; I beg to differ w/anyone who says otherwise. I love this channel as much as you love your life (that’s as so nice to hear) & man that spaghetti looked great. Nice job, team. Love you all!
Make room guys, I’m coming for dinner! That pasta and garlic toast looks delicious! Paradise is exactly what you two have there in your home in the woods! I know it is not without it’s challenges, but it is so peaceful and beautiful! Enjoy your sauna! See you next week! Much love and big hugs to the 5 of you!
I love your videos! Every single one has drama, comedy, helpful hints, and picturesque scenes. The amount of time you give of yourselves to allow us in to your lives is much appreciated 👍👍 10 out of 10
I’m always amazed by how handy you guys are with building things and the lifestyle of living off the grid and peace and quiet with the wonderful scenery
All your hard work has paid off! It’s a beautiful sauna. Winter is far from over so you’ll have many days yet to savor this experience. Be safe! Don’t overdo it.
European houses are not small, we only use the wood stove in the country or fireplaces. We use central heat that can be diesel, gas, oil or pellets as well as air conditioner. We just don't need so much heat. Your sauna looks amazing.👍💪🤪👏
Ever Monday Morning we watch you guys (also known in our house as “the boys”). Thank you for allowing us in on your journey. You provided inspiration for my husband and me as we dream and plan our own adventure. This morning after seeing all the snow we wondered, “Did we miss something? They put in the septic system but are the still having to go to the trailer for toilet?” We remember how hard it was to keep it heated last winter. On another note, thank you for sharing and serving as wonderful roll models in so many ways, especially for seeking therapeutic support.
The septic system is for the main house we’re building and is too far to connect to the dome. We’ll be building a solution for the dome in the spring as soon as the ground thaws enough…a sacrifice for sure but paradise wasn’t built in a day :)
You guys giggling throughout the entire dinner bit was killing me! "We rented Dome, no, um, I mean Dune"! Love your relationship so much! Keep killing it guys✌️❤️✌️❤️ -Stephanie
Having a sauna has to be the best! I love the barrel shape, and how I seemed to go together easily. You guys have built paradise in the middle of nowhere! Life seems to be almost normal for you now that you have amenities. Always love seeing what you guys do! ❤️
So much can happen in a week, last week I was enjoying your latest video this week I am watching you from a hospital bed about to have a quadruple heart bypass operation, wish me luck guys and see you next week!!
It came out great guys love it talk about alot of snow wow. The Dome looks great if you would have not showed the coffee stain I would have not notice. The pets love it. Next gift should be a snow plow..love you guys sew you guys every Sunday nite makes my week. Stay warm enjoy the wine. Still looking forward to one day coming up to see all of you. Tell me what I can send to you from New Orleans. Stay safe hugs to you both.an the furry kids.❤❤🐕🐕🦋🌈🌈
So fun watching it all come together over the last year. When you said “ I rented Dome.. NO…” I chuckled. You literally have dome on the brain. So cute. Thanks for sharing. See you next Sunday 😁
Happy Valentine’s Day 🥰 tomorrow guys. Ok here’s what I think! You should call the spots on your walls “Modern Art” and sell plans on how to achieve the same effect in your own home. 🤪
Wow you guys... you have created such a piece of heaven for yourselves. You must be soooo proud of what you've created with the land. Incredibly impressive! Would love to visit it!
My grandmother was from Finland my grandpa built her a sauna out beside the house. It was a stand-alone two-room building, the first room being for changing etc. The sauna itself was an old oil drum for the fire and it was covered with rocks. Some of my best childhood memories are from that sauna. I always wanted to fire it up when we visited. In the winter we would get good and hot then go jumping into the snow. Just the best! That panoramic window is dope! I see solar lights, lighting up the woods for nighttime saunas, fairy lights if you will, it would be magic! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
I’m lovin Sundays with the Vanwives followed by my boys in the bubble😃. That sauna is going to elevate your comfort level when you get chilled to the bone up the in NS. Very happy for you!!
I am an Estonian living in NS and have always had a sauna until now. Looking to build one soon though. I often add some essential oils in my bucket of water.
Great to see you both I did wonder about the sauna you built it but you never said anything more now I know why cool but I think you guys need a snowblower I’m surprise you didn’t have one xxxx
Sunday: wait patiently for the T&T vlog to appear. Set to "Watch Later". At 2:00 make coffee, warm some muffins (or other treat), then sit back and relax, admire and dream. BTW - Spaghetti, red wine, then a sauna? Great way to "Finnish" the day... 😆😆

Hello from Finland 🇫🇮
Cold beer after sauna 👍
You guys are an inspiration
You both are such an inspiration for me😘
The joys of having someone to share life with that you are in-love with makes all the awesome sounds of the environment. You two always amaze me at the how much you get done at your homestead. Thank you for sharing your adventure.
The name of your channel should be "Living our best life". It's all so beautiful.
For a vlog that is not primarily a comedy one, I still laugh more than nearly any other one.
You guys are so hilarious, I love how you find humor in everything. Love that dome, it looks so homey.
Love it!

Boys, it is so much fun watching everything come together so nicely!…finally! No it hasn’t all been easy, nor on your expected time frame…but that doesn’t matter! It just makes you appreciate it more!
Our thoughts exactly. We’ve been on our own schedule and it feels so good to be (finally) able to enjoy the fruits of our labor!!
My goodness, paradise is really coming together boys. Can’t wait to see what’s next. ❤️
Love when you guys get drunk and giggly.
LOL same 😅🤣
I love how you guys really appreciate the simple things in life..and making memories…that’s what life is all about 🥰
Thank you so much for taking the time to talk about mental health 💕 You'll never know how many people you are affecting in such a positive way, bless you both so much 💖
I can’t put into words how much I love watching you two!!!! It probably doesn’t hurt that you’re both stunning to look at lol. But it’s your relationship and humor that make your videos unique and special. Gives me all the feels☺️
I have never seen two people with so much ambition in my entire life. Way to go. Love watching your videos.
@@maimaz2910 Thank you, will do and please keep up the inspiration, I love seeing how it can be done and is done. :)
Todd - your energy level is insane! That whole set up is just beautiful. So glad you're onjoying all of your hard work. You all deserve it.
He really is the energizer bunny, I'm sure of it!
Writing your chapters as you go
What an amazing book it will be with all the all the experiences you have lived through!!
ALWAYS RED WINE 🍷 🍷🍷🍷
To get the true Finnish experience you need to sit in the sauna, come out roll around in the snow and then go back into the sauna. Really good for the skin.
Two gorgeous men in a winter wonderland of beauty. Keep living the dream guys. Every possible happiness to you.
Be safe. Love you.
Thanks James!
Also, I have to really congratulate you on the visible improvement of your (post-)production skills. Beyond the amazing heartfelt storytelling, this is becoming a high-quality series that commercial platforms could stream! (And I should know...I work in the industry).
Such a compliment. We're putting our heart and souls into these videos so really glad it's coming across!
@@tylerandtodd Love you boys....your virtual auntie 😘
LOL
You are both so cute and charming. Perfect for each other. Love your channel. Happy Valentine ❤️❤️❤️
Saunas are so healthy. My parents lived in a 2-bedroom apartment in the Netherlands and they added a small electric sauna, and it helped my mom deal with her fibromyalgia better than most drugs. So glad you finally got it going. Have a great week!
Say sauna anywhere you want. It’s your channel love Sundays💕💕💕
I am so impressed by and so fond of you two, you make me laugh, you make me cheer. Bravo on the sauna!
Thank you Nancy!!
Happy family, cuddly critters and a gorgeous home.
aw, welcome to our channel!!! So glad you're enjoying it already!
Thanks so much Peggy!
The window is wonderfull, with a amber-filter almost looking as if it's (an older) picture, enjoy!
A good jump in the snow after your 15mins will make you feel amazing!
You guys giggling throughout the entire dinner bit was killing me! "We rented Dome, no, um, I mean Dune"! Love your relationship so much! Keep killing it guys✌️❤️✌️❤️ -Stephanie
That red wine had my brain spinning a mile a minute LOL
Two smart and sympathetic humans.
Soon as it warms up & I can get across the border, I'm coming up for a week. That ok? 😘😘😘
The sauna is beautiful … enjoy … 🙏☘️😘
Having a sauna has to be the best! I love the barrel shape, and how I seemed to go together easily. You guys have built paradise in the middle of nowhere! Life seems to be almost normal for you now that you have amenities. Always love seeing what you guys do! ❤️
I'm a quadriplegic with a caretaker I think we are going to attempt to do the off grid wish me luck
So much can happen in a week, last week I was enjoying your latest video this week I am watching you from a hospital bed about to have a quadruple heart bypass operation, wish me luck guys and see you next week!!
❤️
Hahaha so true...major dome brain LOL
Happy Valentine’s Day 🥰 tomorrow guys. Ok here’s what I think! You should call the spots on your walls “Modern Art” and sell plans on how to achieve the same effect in your own home. 🤪
Wow you guys... you have created such a piece of heaven for yourselves. You must be soooo proud of what you've created with the land. Incredibly impressive!
Would love to visit it!
Thanks so much, we're feeling incredibly proud of everything we've accomplished here!
I've been married to the love of my life, today!, for 33 years! I wish you two the same! It's the best. Happy Valentines Day ❤️
I’m lovin Sundays with the Vanwives followed by my boys in the bubble😃. That sauna is going to elevate your comfort level when you get chilled to the bone up the in NS. Very happy for you!!
making him shovel all that snow before his morning coffee is brutal 😋
I am an Estonian living in NS and have always had a sauna until now. Looking to build one soon though. I often add some essential oils in my bucket of water.
As a finnish person, I prefer eating after the sauna. But drinking definitedly before, while at sauna and after 👌😉
Great to see you both I did wonder about the sauna you built it but you never said anything more now I know why cool but I think you guys need a snowblower I’m surprise you didn’t have one xxxx
Happy Valentine's day Tyler and Todd & everyone❤
I just had to put my loving dog of 12 years to rest, and I am beyond heartbroken. I always watch your channel because how loving you are with your dogs and your cat.
So sorry to hear about your loss. Sending you an incredible amount of love. Hope you can feel it…even if it’s just digitally 💛
Love the sauna! It’s the best to see how you both get into the cooking for each other. Always look forward to the Sunday video.
In my previous comment I forgot to say that I'm completely in love with your kitchen sink and your vintage refrigerator.
Keep going lovely boys.

Absolutely, gotta keep those batteries topped up!
yay sauna!...pretty soon all you will have left to build is luxury items...pools, dance halls, winery or planetarium...the sky's the limit boys!..😊
So happy to wake up to a new video from Tyler and Todd!! It is 7am here in Sydney, good to start my Monday (and my week) with some dose of smiles, love and learning from you guys!!!
Yay! It's Sunday! Hi friends! I love how the..."sow-na" turned out. So relaxing!
You guys are reaping the fruits of your hard labor. You both seem so happy with how things have turned out. Your happiness makes us all feel the joy. Thanks for sharing. ♥♥
Thank you David - couldn't be happier with all this hard work finally coming together!
Y’all could probably build an entire nation. Things are not always perfect surly but the positive tone, not to mention accomplishments you guys manage to set in of it self is heartwarming and motivational. Thank you. 💕
So happy to see you finally being able to enjoy your gorgeous sauna! So much work! You deserve to reap the rewards!
