Holy smokes, it was touch and go there for a while...we're really sorry we missed last Sunday's video but that old expression "good things take time" couldn't have been more true. This project was much more work than either of us thought it would be but we're blown away with how it came together. Having this bathroom has truly changed our quality of life...we're wondering how on earth we lasted two years living off grid without this set-up. Something we forgot to mention was the corner where the plant stand is will be the perfect space for a future shower (if we decide we need it). For now we still have the outdoor shower, although we're waiting on a missing piece for our well pump to be able to get running water going again but in the grand scheme of things, it's a success in our books. What did you think of how it all came together?! We can't wait to hear your thoughts and opinions that we'll add to our "honey-do" list 😉
great job you guys. I wanted to tell you if you guys saw them stream of lightbulbs for outdoors that also repel mosquitos at the same time also they are charged by sunlight. I think is a great idea for you guys. anyways fabulous great job.
Those two dogs are just so amazingly gorgeous. I love watching them go into the water and carrying that big stick back together was just as precious as you could get
It's just mind-boggling that you did all carpentry, all the paving, the insulation, the solar, the propane , electric and plumbing, AND landscaped and decorated it, ALL BY YOURSELVES with no previous experience!! That staircase is superbly made, like expert level. It's so surprising you get it done so perfectly the first time, no major mishaps. And are charming and funny while doing it. This show just has everything, don't ya know!
The best thing about that bathroom is that fingers crossed- nothing can go wrong with it! & it’s so well insulated that the propane heater will be perfect. Masterpiece!
The bathroom looks lovely. Perhaps a sheet of beadboard to cover the inside of the door would suffice for now. I really appreciate how you put gardens around all of your projects.
It also comes in plastic sheets for bathroom areas since its exposed to weather when you open the door I would suggest using this and using adhesive to attach to the door.
A suggestion for the beautiful stairs would be a handrail for when the steps get icy in the winter and/or an overhang to protect the stairs and you guys from rain and snow. Your bathroom is beautiful. Way to go you guys! ✅
Both great ideas that I hope we see get done before the snow flies. The handrail for when the older generation comes to visit for sure! Even when this is just the out-of-the-house bathroom/guest bathroom, it still needs to be safe.
For the Lessons Learned file: next time, a landing at the top of the stairs. The container door opens outward. I think that when exiting you will find that you will want a space to turn around and latch the door and when entering you will be pulling the door towards you. This is manageable on a fine, calm spring day, but it might be trickier during the middle of the night during a windy ice storm.
If you want to know the affect you have on us all: the first thing I said to my partner last week was, “you know the guys in the forest didn’t post a video today, I hope nothing’s wrong”! Nice job on the bathroom, looks great!
Never mind calling it the bathroom instead of the outhouse, I think you should call it The Throne Room. It's magnificent! Love the garden and pathways around it. Maybe a lovely wooden door?
I never watch a video of yours without thinking at some point in the first 5 minutes that you are just adorable...both of you as well as Charlie and Eddie. Just flippin' adorable. And I'm amazed at how polished and easy to watch your content always is....the episodes always end before I'm ready, which is rare for me and YT videos. How about a Moss Wall covering the door on the inside. This might also help mitigate some smells, since there is no active ventilation (besides opening the window I guess)

I finally got my husband hooked on your channel like I’ve been for months now. He made me rewatch a bunch of older episodes (which is ok by me)! We have a bigger Martin heater at one end of the house ( that heats up to 500sq ft) and the one above the spiral staircase on landing inbetween the 2 bedrooms heats up to 300sq ft( much like the Martin heater you have in your gorge bathroom). I've had an extended trip back to the UK fir 6mnths ( live in Northern Ontario, in an unorganized township at the gateway to Algonquin Park...anyway I digress lol, it kept our home toasty warm all winter. Have to say we also invested in a propane wood stove as this allows us to go away on trips and it and the Martin heaters on low , keeps the house warm and no freezing issues. Hope this helps Andy x
Amazing work, as always! I’d do cork sheeting (or flooring) on the back of the door for insulation, beauty and function, as you could display art or something on it easily.
This may be my favorite project you have done. So beautiful and functional. Have you considered a full length mirror on the back of the door? It would be great for getting ready (practical) but also would add another visual of the plants when in the bathroom with it closed or the beautiful surroundings from the outside if open. When I see the attention to detail and the beautiful workmanship, it makes me realize that ultimate house that you're planning is going to be an absolute marvel!!! Beautiful bathroom! Thank you for sharing the journey. Idea for the bathroom door - how about fabric panels? It would add a bit of insulation and help with the echo in the space. Take a piece of foam board insulation that will fit under the inner lip of the interior of the door. The foam board could be done in a variety of sizes, shapes and patterns. Wrap with a bit of quilt batting and the fabric of your choice(a nice wool or heavy canvas? so many options for color, pattern and texture), wrap the board and secure the fabric. Attach the foam pieces/piece to the door (magnets, adhesive, whatever works). The last piece will be a bit of a bear to figure out but otherwise pretty easy to make and install.

It came out just like I thought it would, real classy. It’s not a shipping container anymore, lol 😆 now it’s a Shi**ing Container. You guys now have the classiest off grid container restroom in Canada 🇨🇦👍🏻 now everyone will want to build one, including me.

One thought as a woman living in the woods: as secure and tight as the bathroom is, be very careful about storing TP. Mice love it for nesting and will find a way to get at it. So store it in a well sealing plastic container, or just make a habit of bringing a roll with you from the dome. Beautiful job lads, truly another project to be proud of!
@@tylerandtodd they are determined little things! I can't keep kleenex in my car or they come in thru the dashboard somehow and I find scraps of tissue all over & other "evidence" too! Once I reached into the box and out flew a live mouse. Fun times. Sometimes I think I'm a bit too up close and personal with nature.
One winter, I put on one of my coats and reached inside the pockets, to make sure I had gloves with me; when I found a baby mouse in one of the pockets. It actually freaked out, that it tried to run up my arm. Not before I knocked it off of me, causing it to hit the wall. Fell onto the floor - it got up, shaking its little head, glared at me, and ran away. Another time, I was going to vacuum the apartment - when I turned the vacuum on, it made a funny sound. Turned out a mouse had gotten stuck in the opening (on the bottom of the vacuum cleaner). I killed the mouse, sucking its brains out, using the vacuum cleaner on it - still warm when I picked it up (wearing gloves and probably too many paper towels). BTW - I'm now in another, better, hopefully, mouse-free apartment.

Maybe you can put something on the door where you can put pictures easily on, pictures of all your adventures. So you can enjoy them while your in there! But it looks absolutely amazing already!
The bathroom came out great. I love how you both are able to keep your vision flexible enough to adapt to any changes needed. Just a suggestion for the door...maybe use velcro to fasten a piece of fabric to cover the insulation. With velcro, you would be able to change the fabric based on your mood or the seasons or whatever, and it would add a soft touch.

This video was one great thing after another. The steps at the beginning were awesome, but the comment about things working out if you give it time and space was a powerful message. You proved it by showing the final product which is absolutely stunning. You are at a point where you are more pro than DIY. I believe the two of you could do anything!

Suggestion for the door: A simple white backerboard. Glue to frame. Then at the base attach a small rectangular planter and plant Pothos (indoor vine). I had an entire office desk wall with this. It grows quickly, requires very little care and would thrive in that light. Tape paperclips to the wall to support/direct growth :) It will fill out and make a beautiful living door :)

There's so much noise and activity around the container, and yet the dogs are so laid back and so content just being there. Awesome.

I finally got my husband hooked on your channel like I’ve been for months now. He made me rewatch a bunch of older episodes (which is ok by me)! We have a bigger Martin heater at one end of the house ( that heats up to 500sq ft) and the one above the spiral staircase on landing inbetween the 2 bedrooms heats up to 300sq ft( much like the Martin heater you have in your gorge bathroom).
I've had an extended trip back to the UK fir 6mnths ( live in Northern Ontario, in an unorganized township at the gateway to Algonquin Park...anyway I digress lol, it kept our home toasty warm all winter.
Have to say we also invested in a propane wood stove as this allows us to go away on trips and it and the Martin heaters on low , keeps the house warm and no freezing issues.

This may be my favorite project you have done. So beautiful and functional. Have you considered a full length mirror on the back of the door? It would be great for getting ready (practical) but also would add another visual of the plants when in the bathroom with it closed or the beautiful surroundings from the outside if open. Beautiful bathroom! Thank you for sharing the journey. Idea for the bathroom door - how about fabric panels? It would add a bit of insulation and help with the echo in the space. Take a piece of foam board insulation that will fit under the inner lip of the interior of the door. The foam board could be done in a variety of sizes, shapes and patterns. Wrap with a bit of quilt batting and the fabric of your choice(a nice wool or heavy canvas? so many options for color, pattern and texture), wrap the board and secure the fabric. Attach the foam pieces/piece to the door (magnets, adhesive, whatever works). The last piece will be a bit of a bear to figure out but otherwise pretty easy to make and install.

It came out just like I thought it would, real classy. It’s not a shipping container anymore, lol 😆 now it’s a Shi**ing Container. You guys now have the classiest off grid container restroom in Canada 🇨🇦👍🏻 now everyone will want to build one, including me.
I love the way you guys can flex and go with the flow. You may spin out or down at roadblocks - but you do not let them stop you. Best of all, you stay kind to each other.
I absolutely love the bathroom, it turned out so awesome! Love all the plants too. I agree with Louis Peel, it would be so cool to bring the wood ceiling look onto the door. It would pull it all together, and maybe add a full lenght

At the end of the video when you were talking about what to do with the inside of the door, I had a thought about maybe putting up a metal or cork sheets to display magnets and photos of your time spent traveling to go with the theme you have in the bathroom. One thought as a woman living in the woods: as secure and tight as the bathroom is, be very careful about storing TP. Mice love it for nesting and will find a way to get at it. So store it in a well sealing plastic container, or just make a habit of bringing a roll with you from the dome. Beautiful job lads, truly another project to be proud of!
I can't see how mice would get in....

@@tylerandtodd they are determined little things! I can't keep kleenex in my car or they come in thru the dashboard somehow and I find scraps of tissue all over & other "evidence" too! Once I reached into the box and out flew a live mouse. Fun times. Sometimes I think I'm a bit too up close and personal with nature.
One winter, I put on one of my coats and reached inside the pockets, to make sure I had gloves with me; when I found a baby mouse in one of the pockets. It actually freaked out, that it tried to run up my arm. Not before I knocked it off of me, causing it to hit the wall. Fell onto the floor - it got up, shaking its little head, glared at me, and ran away. Another time, I was going to vacuum the apartment - when I turned the vacuum on, it made a funny sound. Turned out a mouse had gotten stuck in the opening (on the bottom of the vacuum cleaner). I killed the mouse, sucking its brains out, using the vacuum cleaner on it - still warm when I picked it up (wearing gloves and probably too many paper towels). BTW - I'm now in another, better, hopefully, mouse-free apartment.

Maybe you can put something on the door where you can put pictures easily on, pictures of all your adventures. So you can enjoy them while your in there! But it looks absolutely amazing already!
The bathroom came out great. I love how you both are able to keep your vision flexible enough to adapt to any changes needed. Just a suggestion for the door...maybe use velcro to fasten a piece of fabric to cover the insulation. With velcro, you would be able to change the fabric based on your mood or the seasons or whatever, and it would add a soft touch.

Suggestion for the door: A simple white backerboard. Glue to frame. Then at the base attach a small rectangular planter and plant Pothos (indoor vine). I had an entire office desk wall with this. It grows quickly, requires very little care and would thrive in that light. Tape paperclips to the wall to support/direct growth :) It will fill out and make a beautiful living door :)

lucia, I just learned this myself so I thought I'd share. When you forget something or wish you would have said something differently you CAN edit your response. Each comment has 3 vertical dots on the far right side of it. Just hover your pointer over it until they appear, left click on it and you get the option of edit, delete. You can only EDIT or DELETE your own comments but can report an inappropriate comment on any that you see.
Don't forget that miss Lily was there, supervising from inside the dome, looking out the door.
