When we first set out on building our cabin, we had planned on doing a traditional a-frame style cottage but as time went on and we did our homework we realized that if we carefully planned things we could build a cabin that won't just last our lifetime but generations to come. The more we learned about what it truly means to live off grid and be self-sufficient, we quickly realized the importance of building a homestead...for those of you who don't know (because we definitely didn't), a homestead is a property with several outbuildings that all provide a separate purpose for the goal self sufficiency! We knew from the beginning that we wanted the independence that having a homestead gave us but weren't interested in roughing it off the grid like a typical log cabin you're used to seeing! So we dreamt up a modern twist on cabin life that will fit our needs and after all these days dreaming, it's FINALLY happening and we can't wait to bring you along for the ride!
Join us every Sunday as we continue to create off the grid homestead vlogs, sharing our adventures as we build our own alternative lifestyle, living simply in the wild wonderful off grid forest!
How did we get here?
After a year of full time travel living the van life, we had to adapt when the world changed. To keep busy we’ve converted our tiny house on wheels into a fully functioning off grid tiny house that has everything we need. Realizing that none of us know how long this new normal will stick around, we made the decision that building a home here was the best decision we could make. We've spent the last year doing EVERYTHING involved with coordinating and planning the build ourselves as well as setting up this off grid property to be able to provide us with the the food we'll need in the future.

Bit of a disappointing week but in the grand scheme of things, we’ve waited two years already what’s a little longer? 😂 …In all seriousness, with how much work the Dome retrofit is turning out to be, the house being delayed has been an even bigger relief than we thought it would be. Really looking forward to next Sunday to fill you in on all the modifications we’re making…it’s way better than we expected! We’re hoping to take a day or two off this week to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary so it’s back to work for us. Hope you have a wonderful week 💛
Happy Anniversary!
@@gingw7333 Thanks Ging!!
Happy Anniversary. You always make my Sunday
Happy Anniversary 🥂❤ great stacking of all that wood! Should keep you warm all winter!Looking forward to more adventures next week🥰
8 years!!! Congrats!!!
It is a sign; you two can weather anything just as long as you are together ❤️
Happy anniversary. Your love for each other makes me smile every time
Thanks Amy 💛
Thanks! Happy Anniversary!
It’s fantastic that the dome company was open to hearing how it’s working for you and that they are trying and improving their products. Just as a decent company should 👌🏻I’m sure that this will make the dome even more special for you and your fur babies 🤗
I am impressed too - common sense that companies should act on feedback but it seems a rarity these days.
Could you tell me the name of the dome company as bc you all i teally want to do a greenhouse
I AM 76 YEARS OLD AND EVERY TIME I LOOK BACK OVER MY LIFE TO THE MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENTS I FIND THAT THEY ACTUALLY LED TO A BETTER OUTCOME THAN I COULD PLAN MYSELF. I MEAN EVERY TIME! SO TRUST THE UNIVERSE WILL BRING YOU SOMETHING BETTER THAN YOU COULD HAVE PLANNED!
“Start the dome from scratch!” Oh my, you two have so much energy and creativity, it’s amazing. Wishing you both a VERY Happy Anniversary!
I would have been a bit less excited at that prospect than they seemed to be hahaha. Must be a great outcome they are looking at!
I swear I almost peed my pants laughing when you two were in the water and the fish started biting! LOL " Nope when they start eating me, I start running" I just can't stop laughing!
Lily is a star!! I love kitty antics! Hang in there guys you are doing great!!!
I agree very much. How interesting everything is, I love to see about Lily.
And I like how you change something negative in something positive
When I started watching this Video I was thinking, “Gee I wish they’d show the cat more….” HAHA the cat made itself KNOWN!
As a mum to young adults, if your parents are reading these comments, WELL DONE, these lads are awesome human beings. And to Tyler & Todd, I'm obviously assuming your parents did some good groundwork to help you along the way, but you deserve 💯 credit for your work ethic and healthy relationship. Just be proud of yourselves okay? HAPPY 8TH ANNIVERSARY! 🥳💓
I've been following y'all since right before y'all headed back to Canada for lockdown, and, if there's one thing I know, it's that everything works out for y'all in the craziest ways. It's kinda funny. Y'all always worry and fret whenever plans change or when there's a delay, but I sit here and wonder how y'all are going to use that new opportunity to make things even better than your initial plan. Every single time. 😂 Keep up the great work y'all! The property looks amazing!
Thanks for this Edward! It's so true...it always works out way better than we ever planned!
I love your homestead, you guys have done a phenomenal job
Thanks so much Catherine!
On your irrigation system you may need to run your 1/2 inch line along the end of each row and then run your 1/4 inch line off it for each row. That would give you lots of 1/4 inch runs that wouldn't be too long. You lose a lot of pressure in long 1/4" lines. I've done quite a few irrigation systems and I always try to keep smaller tubing shorter. Hope it helps. Really enjoy your vids!
Loving Lily's antics.
Can't wait to see the changes to the dome so you all have a more comfortable winter.
How do you make Tyler and Todd scream? You have lily crawling up their drapes. Lol Lily is adorable. She was stealing the show in the bathroom. I was waiting for her to drop on Todd’s head . 🐈⬛❤️🥰😍
Happy anniversary to you. The respect, care and love you show to each other is inspiring. It is disappointing that your house is delayed, but it sounds like it was a blessing in disguise since it gives you the time to retrofit the dome to make it more comfortable. I cracked up when you opened with time in the outhouse because of the heat. Good thing it is a luxury model! Take care and have a great week.
Go Lilly!!😆 Up the door she goes😂😂I love it🥰🥰 (Sorry, cat parent here😄😄) All the best to you guys💛💛
You know it's Sunday, when Tyler and Todd are on our screens. Having my nachos and going to watch the vlog. Happy 8th anniversary to you wonderful human beings. Love you guys. 😉🤗👍❤️
Tad & I are also 8 years into our relationship June 15th.
Finally got to see all the kids in one place! Lilly has become quite the wall climber! (Yikes?) The boys are chilled but oh no, not her! And see, you turned not so good news into a positive towards the end. Have some lightning going on now so I best cut the electronics off!
Happy 8th wedding anniversary ❤️ 💕
Good job you've no curtains as Miss Lilly would be up and down them like a yo-yo 😉😉😅🤣
Summa summarum: Tyler is a borderline genius and Todd eats soupe’ of cannes🤣Tyler’s ”french voice” was so funny!
Btw, the beginning of the video felt surprisingly peaceful without the intro, really cool!👍
Good luck with the dome!💛💚
No whining guys! Lol. It's 105 in Dallas Texas at 5 pm. It's been over 100 for months!!!! Absolutely miserable. Happy anniversary 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎈🎉🎉!
Your videos bring such comfort - it's been a week of ups and massive downs. It does my heart good to see Lily exploring and having fun.
I LOVE Lilly every time you film her my heart melts. You two are on the right path in life, congratulations.
Re: the drip system, you might need to install a larger 1/2" line connected after the pressure reducer with a T and a leg of 1/2" line that runs each way the length of the garden then punch into it with the 1/4" lines that run down each row of the garden (pressure loss due to the length of the lines, the 1/2" running the length of the garden would help). Until you get the bigger pump you might not even need a pressure reducer?
Good idea, Mike. That's how mine is set up and I'm pretty happy with it. When the 1/2" pops a leak (and it will, eventually,) you get a fantastic water fountain for free! I turn off the timer if I'm going to be out of town for a few days. You can get decent battery operated timers with an adapter from the garden hose to the irrigation hose for around US$ 60.
That’s it my is like that amazing with a clock sistema I don’t have too do nothing just watch the plants and feeding
Was gonna comment the same. The bad news is that they’ll need to add the extra lines. The good news is that’s the east part lol. I found working with the 1/2” line was much quicker too
First off, drip irrigation is not meant to be a sprinkler system. If you put too much pressure on the line, you'll end up with popped heads here there and everywhere. Drip irrigation is just that - drips. Like a dripping tap. Adding a stronger pump won't make it drip or squirt higher. If you want to do that, get a gyrating sprinkler or an oscillating sprinkler on a 3 ft (1m) high post. Also, put a timer on your system. 1 hour of drips per day is sufficient for a row of vegetable plants.
I'm addicted to your videos! Thanks to you two, in March of this year, when my husband and I decided to open a shop here in Prague, Czech Republic, instead of hiring someone to do the work, we decided to do it all by ourselves from scratch. It may not be as big of a project as your Geodesic Dome, but we sure are just as proud of it :))) The next time I dive head first into another project, my family knows who to blame😆
If you are ever in Prague, please come over and take a look at what you inspired us to do :) I love you guys! 🇨🇿
I LOVE seeing Lily, I need more of her. 💖💖💖 nice irrigation system, It will work so well and will save lots of hard work and time. I really am loving all the process 🙏🙏🙏thanks💖🐾
Happy Anniversary!! Seeing all that beautiful firewood makes me salivate. I love a good fire in the winter. Sorry to hear the house is delayed but look forward to seeing what improvements you make to the dome in the meantime. Loved the Wednesday post. Please do that more often! Love and kisses as you celebrate your anniversary. Can't wait to see what gift Todd ran out and bought for Tyler.🤣
so every thing ends up being ok , the house is delayed but it gives you a chance to fix the dome( which i am so very glad the company has listened to you , what a great company to do that!!) . Its crazy that the 2nd of August is your anniversary! my wife and I got married on the second of August ( to men ;-) )and then when we met that was the date we became friends!! happy 8th anniversary gorgeous boys !! 💝👨❤💋👨👨❤💋👨👨❤💋👨
Aw a Happy Anniversary to my favorite couple. I know y’all are so disappointed in the delay of the house but we are all excited to see you retrofit the dome and for all of your new adventures. Much love!!!
Lilly is too funny - while you guys are talking about the house, she's chaos in motion LOL
I Just love to feel your energy on Sundays ☺️ really inspire some of us here ….. love you guys … keep working love from El Salvador
Guys, its not about pressure but it is volume. That drip line is MUCH to small for that garden. You need to run larger pipe to each section of the garden THEN transition to that smaller pipe. When you add to your system to do entire garden the plants at the end will not be getting ANY water while the ones at the beginning will be watered.
Good Luck
Love how Lilly upstaged the scene in the bathroom! Hilarious! 😂 Congratulations on your anniversary! Chin up guys, your dream house will be the reality soon. Love your content and anticipate it every week. All my best.
A benefit of hand watering is that you notice how your plants are. You can give them individual attention, so not so daft.😊
I'm so sorry to hear about the delay on your house, guys! When it does come, it will that much sweeter for you both! Thank you for the great vlog this week. Such a great start to the work week, friends!🌞❤️🔥❤️😄
Ahhh guys don't get sad. You still have each other and you are well. Count your blessings. You will get your home, just a minor delay. You want to be safe in your new home. Don't be sad. Look at your puppies and love them. It always could be worse. Hang in there and just brush it off. The house will come, just later. Hugs to both of you !!!!!
Lily is a hoot! Happy anniversary to you both! I've been with you a long time and you're vlogs just get better and better.
Bob and I are happy to wish you both and most beautiful, wonderful anniversary. 🎉🥰♥️ Do something special for yourselves. See you Sunday😊
I am so awestruck by how inspiring both of you are!💕
Drip is normally a drip or a trickle, it's an advantage two ways:
1) When you spray water in the air you lose a lot of it to evaporation, you just make higher humidity and the breeze wafts it away
2) When you spray the foliage you get a lot more plant disease.
Drip puts a trickle right at the base of the plant where it goes right down to the roots where the plant can use it.
When you get more pressure on your lines you will need a pressure regulator (25 psi available anywhere you buy irrigation supplies) so you don't blow apart lines and emitters all of the time.
(Can you tell I managed an irrigation supply place for a few years of my widely varied life?) 😜
If you run across the beds with one line and tee off for each row you get more even pressure for the rows and use a lot less hose than if you snake through the rows.
Love you both so _hugely_
Squarely on team Tyler, when it comes to hot weather!
This last week has been abysmally hot in my SW Wa woods as well. So up & out @ dawn, swatting late partying mosquitos, to care for gardens & critters.
Wishing you two well & cooler weather!
Takes the good right out of you, doesn't it!? Hoping for cooler weather your way soon too!!
I'm glad it's finally warm in SWWA! But sadly it's only for a week and half.
Happy, happy, happy anniversary. Have a gr8 day. Rest, relax and celebrate 🥂🍾💚🐾🐾🐾💚🥂🍾
You two are such hard workers and get so much done on a daily basis! What a paradise you’ve created there. Much love, from Washington State 💕
Oh forgot to say we really thought the kitty was going to jump down on Todd... Always good bonding time in the bathhouse.. Stay hydrated...
You two sure don’t shy away from hard work! I hope the dome upgrade is a total success👍😊
Life is an adventure!! Sometimes life or our plans are not perfect. You guys have accomplished so much. Love watching!!!!!
You make Sundays my happy days! Of course my arms ache in sympathy. I’m sorry about your house delay, but glad to see you finding a silver lining. Happy Anniversary to you both. Use the delay to build anticipation and exhilaration! You guys are good at rolling with the punches. The gardens look great. Hope this next week brings better news and a sense of accomplishment.🇨🇦💕
I love sipping my coffee and checking my Irrigation in the morning to make sure everything is doing good
Happy anniversary you two! I hope the house comes soon. Have a great week!
Parchment paper in your Dutch oven will prevent bread from burning but allow it to still get brown and crusty. Looked amazing. 😋
Happy 8th anniversary to both of you. I’m so sad to here about your home being delayed. I feel your frustration I’ve been waiting for a new build townhouse for 2 years with countless delays as well - 6 weeks to go for me. Thank you for being so amazing you made my birthday today xo
Happy Birthday!! Mine is the 5th of August lol 😁
@@sherribell4032 happy birthday 🎂 to you too. I hope it’s amazing
Up too early because I have the day off and hearing Todd say " A soup of can" sent me into a fit of laughter. I'm always so impressed by everything you have accomplished. I love you both.
Happy Anniversary. Love watching you updates. Big loves to you both, from Leeds England xx
Happy Anniversary! My niece has a cat that likes to climb the screen door. I was waiting for Lily to climb the door... good job Lily!
Listen, we are Melting together 96° and 103° w/heat index! Love you guys and well, no need for me to drive there with all this WARMTH! ⛱️🤣 Try to Smile in my absence! Have a Cooler week and hoping that firewood will bring a Chill in the Air. Blessings to all, deb in Sunny🌤/Hot🥵 SC⛱️
I’m so happy for you tube ! I’m learning so much from the both of you. Taylor I know you always mention how incredible it is to have learned so much. Guess what boys! Your now the teachers. I’m legit learning beyond what I could imagine.
Edit: Yes make maple syrup!
Lildini is adorable! So is Edwaggin, and of course, Buddy!
Another great video, happy anniversary 👨❤️💋👨🥂🍾 You two are so inspiring, I wait to watch you every Sunday and wish I could live your lifestyle 🥰
I’m going to share a tip for growing potatoes. My mother, rest her soul, would lay stake out a patch of the garden and cover it with leaves gathered and stored from the previous fall. Then she would lay the seed potatoes on the leaves in a grid pattern and cover the whole patch with loose straw. She’d soak the patch well with water and basically forget it. The potato plant would grow up through the straw and thrive. Later in the season she would periodically pull the straw back to check on the progress. There would be little nests of potatoes under each plant-all perfectly clean. She’d have ‘new potatoes’ when she needed them, but most she just left them until harvest time. The biggest plus in all this was that she didn’t have to dig potatoes-she just picked them up. Recently, I saw an article about this method and someone commented that field mice devoured the potatoes during the growing season and nothing was left to harvest. However, my mother never experience this problem. I remember my grandmother and her sisters staring in awe as they had never seen such a method. Sorry for the long winded comment.
Lily took over the attention during Todd’s whole talk about the delay...lol
Happy 8th anniversary! 🥳🥂❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 Wait, every anniversary has a traditional theme(paper, wood, copper, tin) - could the 8th possibly be irrigation equipment ?!? You traditionalists, you!😁
Lily though!!!!! So sweet spending some time in the outhouse!! Puppies and kitties and toasting!! Happy Anniversary to you both!!! Sending love and hugs to all of you!!!!! ❤️💫🐶🐈⬛🐶💫❤️. You ARE true soul mates!!!
Hi guys! Looks like a great compromise on the wood storage. YES on the maple syrup. OK and the bread!!!! 😛 Miss Lilly is such a mischievous darling. LOL. Love you guys.👍😎🇨🇦🐾🐾🐾
You are definitely meant to relax and enjoy the hammocks in the sunshine. Lots of delays in Australia for building items too. The house will arrive exactly at the right moment to be enjoyed. You are both wonderful.
Happy Anniversary, guys.
Welcome to the wonderful world of construction of setbacks. It's not the end of the world. There is always a reason why things don't go as plan. And it's usually for the better. Would it have been better to get all the wood delivered at one time? LOL @Lilly giving us a gymnastic show. She is such a show offf...:)
I want whatever catnip the kitty was having during the family bathroom time-out!
Love the angles! Looks like despite the bad news that you guys are having fun and being creative.
Love that the dome company is listening to you guys BC as a Canadian I would love to do the dome home and I know others would as well, so it being better optimized for full time living will certainly be a selling point!
It is called "Drip" Irrigation. Most people who use drip systems for watering turn it on for 30 to 60 minutes. It's not supposed to spray up but drip on to the soil. Really I think it's a good system to use. You all are great and have done so many wonderful things to your property. Keep up the good work and drip, drip, drip.
You could set up a header tank (smallish tank on a tower/shed roof) specifically for the summer garden. Then you can use the regular pump you have to pump it up to the tank and gravity feed to the garden. Just empty it at the end of the growing season to avoid frozen tanks.
Lily wants out...🥰 Lily is bored...
Aaahhh! Happy Anniversary, you guys!
"Soup of Cannes"... I knew all along Todd was the more sophisticated palate. Thank you for continuing to crack me up! 🌝
Concerning the drip irrigation: 1.) Keep it scrupulously clean during assembly of the system, as only an invisible grain of dirt can stop up an emitter, and 2.) Low pressure is your friend. Whatever the supply pressure is, it must be reduced to c. 3 p.s.i. for introduction to the drip lines.
Awe, that's our 48th wedding anniversary. How cool is that.
It’s a drip irrigation. Not a sprinkler system. So it is a drip. Think droplets. It’s already too much pressure right now. A drip irrigation is to drip water into the soil. Not water the plant stem or leaves. That would create mildew
First off: Happy Anniversary!!! Second, on the drip system: slower is better. By running it at a lower flow rate, the water will have a chance to seep down directly where you placed the drip nozzles. This means less puddling and flowing that will send water to unwanted areas (watering weeds...etc.). The only drawback for you two is that you are using 12v power for longer.
Don’t knock yourself guy’s, because I have been so proud of you both since I have been following your online sight. You have accomplished a great deal 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾Love you guy’s. God Bless love’s 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾
That Lilly is something fierce! (So adventurous)
That bread is a piece of art. Yummie. 😋😋😋
Exciting news about the dome! Lily is a little climber, lol. I have cats and they would have shredded the dome in just a week climbing the walls. One of my cats will actually eat plastic and vinyl! I'm not sure what's up with that but I have to be very vigilant to keep that kind of stuff away from him. Silly creatures! 😆🐈⬛🐈😸
My cat used to climb the screen door like Lily, and get to the top and just hang there confused. Where else do they think they can go? 😁 Ahh cats, gotta love 'em! Hope your irrigation helps out, it is 'drip' so pressure shouldn't be too big an issue, just run it a bit longer. Happy Anniversary! 🎉🎉
I love that you call them bow tie pasta when in Italian we call them farfalle, that means butterflies. Happy anniversary, I love watching your videos. You are the cutest couple.
Every video is amazing to watch but when you eat, all I can think is that you two need to make a cookbook!!! The food always looks SOOOO delicious! ❤️
Ya'll work so hard. What you need for the river is some floaties. Noodles and inner tubes. You'll be glad that you got them.
You guys have the rest of your life to finish your build. Take your time, love each other and enjoy it.
All things happen when they are supposed to. It's cool to watch the magic happen for you guys.
Spidy Kitty spider kitty ! Spider kitty does what ever a spidy kitty wants!
Please be careful in the heat. My dad and daughter both have had a heat stroke.
I can't wait to follow along with your new dome improvements. It will make a nice getaway for friends and family when your home is built.
YEAH for drip irrigation. With low pressure all you have to do is leave it on longer. Gravity will get the water down where it's needed. I'm exhausted just watching your week, never mind doing all the physical labor. Please give yourselves a romantic evening to celebrate your anniversary.
You can check on your potatoes by sticking your fingers into the ground and feeling for them. That way you don't dig them up too early or damage them by accident when they need more time to grow.
Happy Anniversary my sweet friends,I hope your day will be fantastic 👍👍🙂💙
My Father in law was a simple man but he had an amazing amount of common sense. That being said he always told me that when something bad happens, to not lose faith because something good will come out of that bad situation. So chill and take it one day at a time.
I love you Charlie and Eddie and miss Lily. And also love you guys very much 😁😂. Keep up the good work guys i'm sooo proud 😋. See you next sunday 🏄♂️👙🌞🌊🌈 kisses 💋 from Portugal ❤️.
oh goodie.... it's time to pour a glass of chilled white wine and sit down with Tyler and Todd !
First time I actually got to watch the Dynamic Duo making lemonade! Way to find the positive in things. Here in western Ky it’s been hotter than the gates of hell for two months and I for one am so tired of it You lucky fkrs (🤭) get to live in the great white north where the heat surely won’t last too long. Yes, that’s a touch of jealousy you’re hearing 😉. Enjoy the upcoming week and keep making time to smell the flowers
It’s called tickling your potatoes. Instead of digging them up to check, you use your hands to feel if they are producing anything (dig from underneath the plant not on top) then cover up again so you don’t destroy the plant. Potatoes are ready when the plant start dying off. Just a little snippet for you.
Dear Tyler and Todd, take that delay time to recheck as much detail as possible to have everything in order, when the building process started. Even though there will always be some surprises, when this beautiful expected event starts. Expectation bring joy for you and all of your viewers. I can wait to see and feel the happiness of you both having a open house. It will happen soon. LOVE, LIVE, LEARN n LAUGH MAC
